| said: We read the reviews on this hotel a week before we left, most of them were true.
There are many complaints about this hotel, the rooms were never cleaned properly, the bathroom was never cleaned the whole 2 weeks we stayed. The pool was cleaned once on our second day, the scum around the edges with peoples names written in was still there when we left. The lifts broke down on average 2 - 3 times every day. Our sheets were only changed twice in two weeks. We were not the only one's complaining, I only hope others write reviews as well. Mid week into our holiday the hotel was invaded buy Dutch teenagers 60 - 70 and the place turned into a YMCA for the next ten days. there is nothing for kids to do, no entertainment during the day and at night it's alright if your over 70 and deaf. The breakfast is average with plenty of choice, didn't try any other meals. This hotel is supposed to be a 4*, no chance it's 2* on a very good day.

| said: My husband and I have just returned from a week at the Canifor and have to say we were very disappointed with this hotel. It was classified as a 4 star, but it should be rated as a 3 star. The main complaint was the dining area as it was very small and could not cater for large numbers of people as well as the food served. The tables and chairs were so crammed together it was a fight to get around and I got fed up by keep saying ‘excuse me’. The food was very unappetising and very bland and not much choice. You did not help yourself, you had to ask what you wanted and it was put on your plate. If you wanted a sweet you had a choice of gateau every night which you had to put on a saucer as they did not have proper plates!
Breakfast was absolute chaos so we went down early to avoid the rush. If you wanted tea or coffee you had to queue up because it was from a vending machine which seemed to take ages. The tables had plastic tablecloths with just two plates on them - no cutlery as you had to get them yourself.
We never stayed in the hotel at night so we cannot comment on the entertainment.
We only stayed for half a day at the swimming pool area which was far too cramped for us.
Apart from the hotel, we both enjoyed Malta, but unfortunately, we will never go back to this hotel as we have seen other 4 star accommodation which are much
better.

| said: No way is this a four star hotel, compared with other 4 star hotels we have stayed in during the last 12 months. The reception staff were very good to us, although they found it impossible to organise two extra pillows, said the hotel did not have any! The room was perfectly adequate and kept clean, but we did not have clean pillow cases during the week and we doubt if the sheets were replaced. Do not accept rooms ending in 26,27,28 or 29, (ie 328, 329 etc) as you are overlooking a street with quite a lot of traffic and Murphys Bar where the music, if you can call it that, went on till midnight, unless you are a good sleeper or enjoy loud music. As for the restaurant, we shuddered when we walked in and saw oilcloths on the tables. The food itself was only 3 star maximum, the green veg were overcooked and watery, the meat was probably the cheapest that they could buy,you had to queue for the toaster and sometimes for the coffee machine. This was served in Pyrex type cups with plastic sticks for stirers and you were lucky to get a saucer. The entertainment was second rate in a smallish room so the sound was overpowering, you had to shout to speak at times. If this is standard 4 star quality in Malta then we would suggest you go for 5Star minimum.

We had booked a superior room which was ok nothing spectacular about being superior. The staff were very pleasant and the Hotel was very clean our rooms were cleaned every day and fresh towels left daily. We could have as many drinks as we wanted except for doubles but we were not bothered as we mainly drink wine and we were getting litre carafes at a time. There was a good selection of food the only downfall was the restaurant was very tightly packed with tables and chairs. The entertainment was ok if you were about 80 years of age. But overall we enjoyed this hotel

| said: We arrived at the Canifor at about 6pm and when I questioned whether there were tea and coffee facilities in the room I was told that as I had not booked an upgrade no! I pulled out my reservation and pointed out that I had in fact booked a superior room at which the receptionist informed me that she would arrange it for the following day! While taking clothes out of our cases I discovered crisp pieces on the bed cover! I went to reception and they said they would look into it. We had our meal there in the evening, which was hot but not much else. The following mornin we went down to breakfast and I have to say I was horrified at the oilcloth tableclothes and the queue to the tea and coffee making machine. I have seen much better transport cafes. There was entertainment at the hotel but we didn't stay. This hotel is definitely no more than a 1 1/2 star and that is pushing it. We found alternative accommodation and moved out.

| said: stayed at hotel canifor from 18th till 15th september 2007 never again not 4 star 2 star just about.
room was large and tidy with plenty of space for your clothes. towels changed everyday.
restaurant a joke much to small tables to close together at peak times people pushing and shoving like feeding time at the zoo. the food was generally poor quality, never saw any fruit.basic english food, veg was mainly carrots and peas(frozen type not fresh)
downstairs bar served snacks ie burgers chips sandwiches.only 1 bar staff on duty and he had to deal with restaurant orders as well as wash up
lounge bar is open at night. again only 1 member of staff serving so queues were forming especally at end of night.
entertaint at night a joke. 1 man singing his wife on keyboards and oaps ballroom dancing
noway is this 4 star 2 star would be generous
the staff work hard and long hours
plenty of spaces around the pool during the day;
i would not recommend this hotel nor would i return to it

| said: My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week's all-inclusive stay at the Canifor in Qawra. I was a little anxious about an all inclusive, as I had read numerous reviews regarding the buffet style canteen feel, but after having stayed here - I would do it again!
Our rooms were cleaned every day, with fresh towels provided on a daily basis too, the beds weren't changed, but they were made daily. The shower was the best I'd used abroad - whether that was because we were only on the 1st floor I don't know - but I found the room spacious enough and clean.
Regarding the food; breakfast was cereals (choice of 4), toast (which I only had when there wasn't a long line of people!!) and a grill buffet with normally; boiled eggs, bacon/sausage, beans, fried/scrambled egg, fried bread. There were fruit juices, and a waiter came round asking to ask if you wanted tea or coffee. It seemed fairly well organised, if not a bit too many tables!!
Lunch was waiter service, which we tried once - but preferred to use the snack service so we could have a vodka (no spirits served in restaurant - only wine or beer).
Dinner - there was always ample to choose from - 4 different starters, normally 2 soups and 2 pasta dishes, then a choice of 4 main meals, one of which was always fish, with vegetables a mediocre offering - 2 styles of potato, and two other veggies - one was normally carrots.
Dessert; choice of 3 or 4, and you could ask the waiters for ice cream. And of course, cheese and biscuits - oh, and there were always cold meats and salad bits too.
The staff all seemed friendly enough, some more than others, we found the reception staff and the bar staff the more friendly and helpful.
The location was OK, especially since there is no beach to speak of anyway, and it was only a short walk to the seafront and the man made 'beach'. Loads of pubs/bars close by, as well as shops/supermarkets.
Entertainment - great if you're of the older generation!! Sorry, but foxtrot style music in the evenings kept these 30 somethings in the downstairs bar!! We did find out on our last day that they play a movie in the main lounge every day at 2.00 - and another guest said it had been the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film one day - dodgy DVD!!
All in all - we paid £300 each for an all-inc, and we got more than we paid for in my opinion - we'd go again, even here!
Oh - the pool - it's tiny!! I probably wouldn't recommend taking young kids here - they'd probably get bored.
PS: if you're all-inc, don't buy water when you go out - get a couple of bottles at the bar, I mention this because several people hadn't realised you could get bottled water at the hotel. And packed lunches are usually sandwiches, apples, oranges, piece of cake, and cheese and biscuits - no drink.

| said: I felt I should write about my experience at the Hotel Canifor this week. It seems to be a policy of this hotel to over book the rooms, this enables them to move customers to their other hotel The Bella Vista which may be a nice hotel but is away from the resort with limited transport links. This was particularly stressful arriving after a night flight. On checking out yesterday I could hear the same thing happening to 2 other ladies who had been travelling for 24 hours because of flight problems. I was told by the manager that 6 rooms were over booked and because I insisted on having what I booked and paid for "someone else would be disappointed!"
I would also like to warn anyone who is visiting this hotel at the moment that there is extensive building works going on in the Dorirose apartment block which ajoins the hotel and the work starts in the very early hours of the morning.
I also agree with everything said about the dining room at this hotel. It is so badly designed and yes you feel you are at school. You have to wait for the tea to be brought to your table at breakfast and if you are lucky the waiter will reach you once during your breakfast. No second cup of tea here!

| said: We have been coming to Malta since 1971 and a have had some great holidays here with family and grandchildren. We love the Islands of Malta the people and their history and culture. The Canifor Hotel, which we visited once in the recent past, is vastly overated in the Hotel Star System. T rate thjis hotel as 4 star is grossly misleading and unfair to prospective visitors to Malta. Although it has some attractions, it falls down very badly on the catering provision which is a top priorty for all prospective guest. The general ethos in the dining area is dreadful, reminding us of schooldays and regimentation and not the happy place it should be when people are on holiday. The physical lay-out is cramped and dangerous when hot food is being carried with little space to move in. The food servery was short in length and one sided and provided a limited variety of hot and cold food. Chairs were placed tightly aginst this restricting safe movement. There was often people queueing for their meal which is not on in a 4 star hotel. The catering staff could smile a bit more and be more pleasant in going about their business. Was there really a need for us to be shown to table number whatever? Fresh fruit was never seen in our 2 week stay and we sometimes ate out because on occasions the food was so bad.
Our rooms were basic but the toilet was very small and the shower was a mere trickle. There was no view but we only used our rooms to sleep. The room was cleened daily and fresh towels provided.
We sunbathed daily in the poolside area and enjoyed the pool was adequate for our needs.
We visited the bar on one evening and it was bright and clean so we cannot comment about the entertainment programme but it was quir most nights.
I would not recommend the hotel for a family holiday and would return only on a B/B asis only.

The reception staff were very helpful, the dining room staff were very nice, courteous and helpful especially if you gave them the respect that was due to them.
Bar staff were friendly and chatty all the time. Meals were very well cooked and very tasty but a bit more variety would have helped.
Entertainment could have been better, best night was the karaoke when the kids were all singing. Pool and sunbeds and indoor pool were adequate for those who wanted to use them, sun terrace was a fair size and very restful.
When we were there we only heard the building works on last couple of days of our stay.

Just some of the complaints: lift didn't work, phone in room did not work, air con in room did not work, view of Beirut out of the window and hydraulic drills and JCBS working outside our window, food reminiscent of school dinners, a pool the size of child's paddling pool and a sun terrace hardly bigger than a back yard.
We spent most of our time whilst there trying to work out how the Canifor had managed to win four stars. It was worthy of two at the very most.
Do not stay here!!!

Rooms cleaned every day, thought the towels were a bit smelly! and the cleaners did not clean the floor in our room very well, there were hairs behind the room door when we arrived and they were still there when we left.
The telephone in our room did not work and the air con only worked for two nights complained every day about both but nothing happened.
Most of the staff were great, odd staff in the restaurant could do with taken a holiday! Didn’t bother to go for breakfast after the first morning it was crazy. It was better at dinner time. Food was ok
There is building works behind this hotel at the minute when we were there they where smashing the rock with a machine first thing in the morning until late at night so if you wont to have a lie in take your ear plugs!

Located in a reasonable position, surrounded by roads with bars. Handy for the bus terminus about 200meters.
We were in the older part of the hotel and although our room was clean and was cleaned daily it was very dated and very small with a double bed, air con, fan and fridge. The wall units were half hanging off the walls. Bathroom was very small, The door hit the sink making it difficult to get in.
Most of the staffs were helpful and friendly.
The food was the biggest disappointment. Evening meals brought back memories of school dinners and the breakfasts were not much better.
Two very small pools surrounded by a lot of sun beds which were shoehorned in. The sun disappears behind the hotel by mid afternoon.
Entertainment most nights man or man and woman singing
as well as large screen for footie, yes we were there during the world cup.
We would not recommend and will not be staying again.

| said: The hotel does not warrant 4 stars.
It looks good from the outside and the foyer is spacious but the rest of the hotel could do with a complete face lift. The bed room I was given was not very clean, and before I could use the chairs on the balcony I had to wash them myself as the maid never did.
The bathroom had a nasty smell of sewage all the time and the shower head was rusty and clogged up, the bath was chipped and mould was all around the tile area. The towels were torn and looked as tho they needed replacing. There was no vanity shelf/unit to put any toiliteries or make-up on, only a very small glass shelf over the wash basin.
After 4 days I after repeated requests was given a single room on the 5th floor, this room was better as being slightly disabled it had a walk on shower which was much cleaner than the previous room, the stale smell tho was still there. The balcony was larger and I was able to sit out without the dust and noise from the back street I was in earlier.
The dining room resembled a works canteen with people pushing and shoving to get food, this was a daily struggle for people. The food was it seemed in short supply daily and at every meal and very repetitious and of a poor quality. I felt sorry for the chefs, I am sure they did there best. The seating in the dining room was cramped and each meal I was shown to a seat near to the area where the waiters removed dirty crockery etc and I never had a meal in peace.
The entertainment was abismall with locals coming in to dance when the keyboard player was on and taking a lot of the seats.
I paid deposits for the t.v zapper and the security box and then had to argue with the manager to get my money back for the deposit box as the receptionist had given me the wrong paper. This was probably because she was stressed by visitors arriving and the hotel not having rooms available due to double bookings.
One other thing that was noticed was there were no ramps for any one disabled or physically challenged and when I pointed this out to the young manager I was told "the Canifor is not disabled friendly", under the EU laws all premises have to cater for disabled people.

I did book a superior room and we had a lovely big room with a leather 2 seat settee and a table and 2 dining chairs. Other items included were a fridge, kettle and cups, and an iron and ironing board. The room and bathroom were kept very clean.
The food was ok---not brilliant but we could always find something we liked.(could not be compared with any Spanish hotel which we are used to) I must say the roast joints were excellent. I did not fancy the cooked breakfasts but my husband had them. I had cereals and cheese or jam on toast.
We did not stay in in the evenings but the entertainment seemed ok when we did go in later on. Mostly dancing to a duo or karaoke.
The staff were always pleasant and helpful.
The pool area was small.
The hotel is in an ideal position only a short stroll to the sea front and to the bus depot.
There were some good bars in the area.

Staff at Hotel reception good and all staff we met were friendly. Dining room staff were a bit sergeant major. That's the good news.
The Hotel pool is minuscule and the pool area is like a back yard. The indoor pool is smaller, three would be a crowd but then practically no one used it.
The rooms are barely adequate, small and the balcony the width of a chair but you probably won't use it because the views are of building sites, think middle east wartime.
The food is probably the lowest quality I have had on any foreign holiday made worse by the revolting plasticised table cloths at breakfast. Queueing for a table didn't help.
We have been to Malta before and would be happy to go again but Malta needs to sort out the star rating. This hotel was budget. Cheap not cheerful, one star at best.

| said: On arriving at the Hotel Canifor we were very impressed with the look from the outside and even more impressed when entering the reception area.
After checking in we were given our room keys. We had booked two rooms as there were five in our party. We were very grateful to find that we had opposite rooms and a bonus of being on the ground floor.
Our room overlooked the pool area and the other overlooked the main entrance to the hotel. The rooms were very bright, spacious and clean. The air conditioning was fantastic, even got a bit chilly at times but we were glad of that as the temperatures were soaring outside.
The rooms were cleaned daily and although I am not sure how many times the bed linen was changed it was always tidy and appeared to be clean after the maid had been in.
The bathroom was cleaned and the towels were changed daily. As for the food, it did get a bit repetative at times with carvery being on atleast three times a week but there was always plenty to eat.
As for people that complained about the size of the servings they received all I can say is they should have asked for more. We always did and the chefs were always obliging even if they did look a bit miserable.
My answer to that though is if you had to cook in those temperatures and then serve with a smile you would probably struggle.
The kids menu was fantastic as far as we were concerned. We have a very picky daughter and she never went hungry. Normally there was either battered fish, chicken nuggets or sausages on the menu!
The breakfasts are typical of 'trying to do the english thing' in another country! We were all inclusive and used it to the full. We were always well fed and watered or maybe that should be lagered!!!!
The waiters and the bar staff were fantastic and always happy to help. They work such long hours over there but are still always smiling. It was our daughters birthday while we were on holiday and after making a few enquiries they made her a fantastic birthday cake and all the waiters sang Happy Birthday to her.
As for the amenities, the pool is a bit on the small side but was plenty big enough for all that wanted to use it.
You couldn't have a long swim in it though if you were feeling energetic, it just wouldn't accomodate for that. As for the water all I can say is girls make sure you condition your hair every day because it is salt water and it dries your hair out terribly.
My daugher has long hair and it ended up feeling like straw. Thankfully some tender loving care of it since getting home has restored it back to its usual condition. On first impressions you might think that there aren't a lot of sun loungers on the terrace but in the two weeks of our stay there wasn't anyone that couldn't get one.
One thing I would say is that by 2pm the terrace area is mainly in shade but we were thankful for that. If you still want to sunbathe after that you can go up on to the roof terrace which is a bit of a sun worshipers trap.
As for the location of the hotel, it is perfect. It is a two minute walk to the bus depot and just past there you have the main shops in Qawra. If you walk a bit further (about 15 mins from hotel) you are in Buggiba and there are plenty of shops to walk around there.
I would recommend anyone to stay in the Canifor and give it a go.

| said: A bit dubious about this after reading other reports. However the hotel was spotless don't know about people complaining of cockroaches we met loads of people and everyone commented on the cleanliness of hotel and fact they hadn't seen any cockroaches.
Our room was massive in fact it's one of the largest rooms we've ever had, liked the fact that we were able to control our own air conditioning.
The pool at the hotel is very small but the kids all had a great time in it. Particularly liked the fact you weren't allowed to eat food in pool area.
The hotel was within easy walking distance of all local amenities. The staff in the hotel were great apart from the chefs who were a bit sour faced.
The bar staff and in paticular, William, Tony & Christian were brilliant working up to 17 hours a day but still managing to find time for a chat.
A few people said the hotel was expensive for drinks but we were all inclusive so it didn't matter.
There's a lovely sun terrace on the roof with a jacuzzi which is nice and peaceful but be warned there is no shade.
The entertainment was a bit hit and miss the couple on a sunday night were quite good as were the 2 boys who played twice a week but be warned the karaoke guy is pathetic but the funny thing is he thinks he's good so at least you get a laugh.
The food in the hotel is repetative but there is always at least one roast on offer, children's menu is rubbish but my son just had something off the main menu even if it was just the soup.

| said: Hotel cleanliness well what can I say you'd be really lucky if you found a clean plate or bowl in the hotel.
Hotel food was the same basically every day. Breakfast was cereal bread and some cooked food. Dinner time was a set menu and you ordered it. Mostly omlettes that weren't cooked. Evening you would either have fish, beef,or lamb and some vegtetables.
Hotel location was great because it was in a quiet area but lots of places within walking distance. Hotel staff some were helpful but others not. We had cockroaches in our room so I asked the lady on reception to get some one to remove it and she said she would but I waited around all morning for someone and no one came.
Entertainment was unbelivable, a man doing kareoke but not inviting other people to join in, a women on a keyboard with a bloke singing and two blokes singing.

| said: This was a last minute job so we didn't have time to check up on the reports previously published here, but unlike most reviews here, I found this hotel to be lucky to get three stars (as your discription gives it.) But to have booked on the basis of four stars, and to be placed in a room on the top floor overlooking a waste area with a twin bed, one with a spring sticking out of it was unaceptable.
Good enough on speaking to "joseph" the holiday rep another room was found even though we wre told none would be available till monday (arrived sat)so on inspecting this room we still only had 3 small draws and one wardrobe for our gear and no kettle,it must be a british thing but even b+b in this country gets a kettle.
Had to pay to get a remote control so we could work the tv.
The food was bland and the entertainment was not for us we went out every night and just used the hotel to sleep in.
The staff were faultless, it's just that it's a tired hotel that needs a face lift and shouldn't be sold as a four star.

| said: The hotel was very nice but basic. The rooms cleaned and towels changed everyday, sheets changed every 3 days.
The food was good and quite varied (different carvery 3 times a week and menu rotated every 2 weeks. Only 3 complaints , the chefs serve the main hot meal and are sometimes rather mean with the portions, you can asked for more, but you feel like Oliver Twist, and the chefs look at you as if you are greedy.
Bacon is only served twice a week at breakfast Tuesdays & Fridays and worst of all they have waiters serve the tea and coffee at breakfast and you can wait as long as 20 mins before they come to you.
The bright spot in the dining room is Oliver, he is always happy, pleasant and had a smile on his face a real pleasure to see first thing in the morning or in the evening.
The hotel is situated about 400 yards from the bus terminal and main shopping area, plenty of bars aroundespecially Simon's bar (he is a great Elvis fan) entertainment every night which are really good especially The Followers and cheap prices.
The staff were all very pleasant byt a special word about BIG CHRIS and night reception, he is a joy, always there to help, nothing is to much troublefor him and all done with a great big smile on his face, he gave up smoking when we were there I hope he is still off them, if you decide to go please tell him Derek & Eileen say hello.
We were there for 7 weeks and were really well looked after and would recommend the hotel but not if you have children, nothing for them to do here.
Entertainment was good but better at Simon's and the beer is twice the price in the hotel. One last warning if you do not have children do not go to Popeye Villge it is a waste of money.

| said: This was our first visit to Malta and we were very satisfied with our choice of hotel although we were glad we didn't book all inclusive as there didn't seem to be much in the way of snacks throughout the day.
The food for half board was very good and we had no complaints and the dining room in general was very well run. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location was also very good as it was close to the bus station where you could get a bus anywhere on the island for very little money. We were going to hire a car but decided against it because of the convenience of the buses.
We can't comment on the entertainment as we didn't stay in the hotel in the evenings.
If we go to Malta again we would stay here again.

| said: Hi All,
Just returned from a week at the Canifor Hotel in Qawra. The Hotel was clean and staff were friendly and helpful. The Receptionists put themselves out to help us as did the restaurant staff and the maids.
Our room was on the fourth floor overlooking St Paul's island and St Pauls Bay. The maids visited everyday and at a time when we were out of the room. On the day of our departure the maid asked us what time we were leaving, we said 11:00, she didn't come back until then.
The food was okay, breakfast can be a bit of a scrum, but this is an observation. A pleasant selection is available from cooked platter, usually sausages or bacon, tomatoes with fried or poached eggs. A cold platter is also provided as are toast, cereals and tea and coffee. A small variety of cakes are also made available (the chocolate is very nice). It appears there are no restrictions to how much one can consume :o)
The evening meals were okay too, like the breakfast it is laid out as a part self service buffet. The quality was good and you could ask for more if you wanted it. To compliment the starters and main dishes, a cold platter is also provided. We only ate for four nights in the restaurant as I know some superb restaurants in the Qawra, Bugibba area. Again, like breakfast, there didn't appear to be any restriction on the amount you could consume.
Drink prices aren't to bad as hotels go, though they don't tend to stock local Maltese Beer only Red Lion, which I found quite palatable. Tea and Coffee at the bar was 40c and half of beer was 60c.
The biggest problem, I would say affecting most guests are the lifts, which are prone to 'sticking'. Some people we met got stuck one morning and were out within 20 minutes, considering an engineer had to travel into Qawra, this wasn't too bad. We kept fit and used the stairs, many guests did this too.
All of the fire escapes are clearly marked with new glow in the dark signs and the fire extinguishers I looked at had been serviced. Automatic fire doors are on all corridors too.
The evening entertainment was mixed, depending upon who was on. There are three resident groups, who seem play the Qawra hotel circuit, ranging from a guy singing plus Karaoke, to a couple; a woman on the keyboard and a bloke singing who were good. Other nights the bar staff played a selection of music, mainly 70's and 80's and romantic songs. There are plenty of places to go out at night, or just stroll along the prom.
Building works are in close proximity to the Hotel and our room overlooked part of the site. Noise wasn't a problem as they are in the early stages of building an appartment block and two tower cranes are laying foundations. This didn't distract us. I've had experiences of demoltion works in past holidays, so you have nothing to worry here at the moment.
The Hotel is located a couple of minutes walk from the Qawra / Bugibba bus station. Here you can catch buses to practically anywhere on the island, in the Winter though you would have to go via Valletta. Also nearby the hotel are plenty of good bars and restaurants and the sea front is only a few minutes walk.
The Hotel seems to have a resident dog and there are four cats which sit outside the front of the hotel, from the neighbouring bar, but these are harmless enough as all they do is sleep.

| said: The Canifor Hotel is by no means a four star hotel as advertised. We stayed on an all inclusive basis. Upon arrival to the hotel we found the room was very dissapointing. The room was shabby and the net curtains certainly had not had a wash in years! Mold was along the hems of the curtains, we think it was mold!!
The bathroom smelt like a public toilet and the view from the balcony was overlooking building works over the road.
The sound of concrete being smashed and drilled is not what you wish to hear whilst on holiday. The maid visited the room every day to clean it, with what we are still uncertain.
We had to report cockroaches in the room, and the room was 'sprayed'!!! Items belonging to ourselves were taken from our room and upon reporting this on the second day to reception, nothing was ever done about it and no apology given.
The hotel food was bland and tasteless and the selection was very poor. Although on an all inclusive we ate ONCE in the hotel and decided that in order not to be even more dissapointed than we already were we would eat out. The lifts in the hotel appear unsafe and proceeded to 'jerk' at every floor! We took the stairs!
The hotel entertainment was 'naff' and repetative. The all inclusive drinks were local brands only which was not a problem but as regards taste then needless to say we drank in another better quality hotel.
The reception staff were unhelpful and appeared annoyed at requests. If you are not up and out of your room early then the maid lets herself in! We had to politely ask her to leave as we were by no means ready to leave our room!!!!!

I have just returned after 2 weeks at the Canifor with my family and have very few complaints.
The food was perfectly acceptable and the sweets especially were fantastic. Our only gripe is that breakfast was poor and should have offered more variety.(I will contact the hotel direct regarding this with a few suggestions). If you booked All Inclusive and stayed in the hotel you have no cause for complaint. Walk, catch a bus or hire a car and see the island. It's breathtaking.
The staff were very friendly from bottom to top, especially Big Chris at reception who was extremely helpful(except for his dubious mode of transport). We will certaionly book this hotel again.

| said: 14 day holiday. Room was cleaned every day, fresh towels daily and clean sheets every three days. Both a ceiling fan and air conditioning in room that worked well.
The dinner menu had a good variety to suit all tastes although the veg offered was overcooked. We have been on H/B holidays before and ate out every night but we had the majority of our meals in the hotel. Breakfast could have been more varied but was fine.
The staff were helpful and friendly.
We did not stay in for the provided entertainment.
We have been to Malta on a number of occasions so know it well. If you are brave enough to go up against the local drivers you should hire a car to get about and see the sights.
We would stay at the Canifor again.

| said: We also returned from a 2 week stay Aug 02.
The hotel is very basic but clean. The food is very limited and after 2 weeks we were very fed up I would not suggest an ai here as guests were moaning.
Our bed covers were dirty and smelly and it took me days to get the maid to take them away let alone let me have new ones.
The staff were friendly and the positioning is not too bad, the pool area was grim and we would not have sat out.
We thought the value for money was not bad, apart from the bed covers been soiled (sheets were fine!) we had no complaints. I was taken ill in the night and the hotel staff called for a doctor and were very helpful. Every evening a free movie is shown at 9pm which was great for my husband as I was ill and our little boy of 4 yrs went to bed.

| said: We stayed at the Canifor for 1 week in September 2002. When we arrived we found that there had been admin mistake. We had booked an all inclusive holiday but they had our party down as half board. This was actually a blessing in disguise as the food was awful. We ate a lot bread to fill up.
The hotel was clean and the hotel staff were friendly. The entertainment, well there is not much to say as it was almost non-existant and what there was, was terrible.
We definitely will not visit this hotel again.

| said: We have just arrived back after spending 2 weeks at this Hotel (Aug 2002). The resort of Qawra is very much like Blackpool without the pier. The hotel is set back from the main front so it is around a 5-10 minute walk to get to the very long promenade where there are lots of restaurants, shops & bars etc. The hotel was very good with the exception of the food.
It is a buffet style restaurant but there was not a great deal to choose from unless you like fish or half cooked meat. The waiters were all very friendly with the exception of 1 or 2. The rooms are very nice and the maid comes every day to make the beds and tidy up, she even rang us when we put the do not disturb sign on the door so she could come & clean the room. All the rooms come with a nice big ceiling fan & air conditioning that works well.
The swimming pool was small but kept clean. It was adequate if you have young children but older ones will get bored quickly. There was not many sunbeds so you had to go down with the towels before 8.o.clock to make sure you got one although there are signs everywhere saying any towels left before 8.30 will be removed.
The entertainment consisted of a couple of Karaoke nights & a singing waiter.
I would not recommend staying all inclusive as the food was not good. We were luckyish as we stayed half board so we had a choice of eating elsewhere.
Over all the holiday was reasonably good but if you are looking for nightlife or or a beach hoilday then don't go there.
It is worth getting a hire car & seeing the island but don't get it for more than 3 days as you can easily cover the island in 2 days.
