The breakfast served is below standard but edible but having Dinner is an experience not only because the food but because people were queueing next to your table while you eat. The staff were friendly and the rooms clean but most are not a/c. It does deserve 3 stars though but could do with improvements.

Secondly the Panorama rep Tony, looks nice to us but at the same time really disgusting. The last comment which I have is that the headwaiter - Joe is an unfriendly man. A head waiter is there to help the waiters but in this case he makes their work more difficult, other than this the staff are very nice and friendly.

| said: First of Our Three Visits here between this holiday and October 2008 (for our honeymoon) and i will be honest and say at first we hated the place but that may of been due to the room we had which wasn't the best, but to be fair was cleaned well every day all the staff are fantastic including sandra on reception who some on here refer to as a bit of a dragon she isn't at all once you get to know her, and as for raymond the head waiter well hes just totally mad ,our favourite member of staff tho is monica the reservations manager (another member of staff who looks a bit sturn untill you get to know her) who is fantastic and always helps especailly if you email her (as a return guest) she will sort almost any request you have, also the hotel is currently undergoing a refurbishment (badly needed in parts of the hotel i admit) so next summer it should be even better. the food can be a bit same ish but always well cooked, the entertainment i agree with nearly everyone else needs a big review (something i have suggested to monica myself) and be warned at weekends you won't get a seat for maltese vistors and boy do the maltese know how the enjoy themselves .

Was worried about the reviews on here but tried it for a week two years ago and was pleasantly surprised. Would recommend you try it may not suit all people but we liked it we are an average family with teenagers who didnt complain.
Have a very fussy eater but she managed to eat well for the fortnight.
Had a few ants but the staff were very quick to act and had no further problems.
Entertainment a bit much the same but hey your on holiday dont we all sing along to Amarillo.

Lifts broke down continuously.
Food was passable in the mornings but evening meals were not good for me.
This hotel needs a refurb. Staff worked as a team and were helpful.
Evening music was okay if you were a seventies person and loved repetitive songs. Lots of older people used the hotel and seemed happy. The curbs around were high with rarely a ramp.
The pool out side was very deep and not suitable for children. I would go back if changes were made but all in all Malta is not for me very distressing for disabled people. Would like to thank all staff for the help they gave.

| said: Like many others before me who read these reviews I was filled with trepidation. However most claims were slightly exaggerated and I believe I got what I paid for. Yes the rooms were stoically basic and the food average. But..there always has to be a but!
The noise was intrusive. TV/Radio on together in reception for starters. The worst however can only be described as aural pollution. The ‘entertainment’ started at nine and went through to eleven thirty. It could be heard several streets away and sounded like a bad wedding reception. The same drivel – strings of sixties/seventies standards churned relentlessly by different ‘artists’.
There is no respite in the hotel. The first two nights it was outside by the pool and as we were overlooking the pool- pretty atrocious. It moved indoors but was as loud as outside.
Only a small percentage bothered going to it so it seemed unfair that the rest i.e. the majority of the guests had to have their time disturbed. We spent our days sightseeing and looked forward to a night in front of the TV. Some hope.
It is for this reason I would not recommend the hotel.
To add avoid Jesters across the road - beer prices seriously inflated - try Shoebox or Ziggies or others in the immediate area

| said: Stayed for two weeks as a party of 22 for a wedding within the hotel. Several mix-ups with the rooms including the bride & groom being put in single beds.
Even though had already paid for meals, the majority of the time we ate out as the food was so unappealing. The breakfast turns stomachs just thinking about it.
Hotel itself seems split into two sections - basic & superior, it all seems very run-down, tape holding the carpets together & lots of damp & mould in the rooms. Desperate need of some money spent on it. Would highly recommend upgrading to a superior room.
Staff mostly friendly, ramond is a true star but older lady on reception is a horror.
Considering the hotel is supposed to specialise in weddings they clearly had no idea what they were doing. Bride & Groom were still clueless about certain details on the actual day. Ceremony was delayed by 30mins as the waiting staff had not set up the tables (even though the room had been empty all day). Ceremony was rushed and champagne toast never arrived.
The food was not what we had pre-ordered & waiting staff were useless.
All in all a disappointing experience. Would not return to this hotel & would not recommend staying any longer than a week or having your wedding here.

Raymond the head waiter was lovely as were cezaer and renato at the pool bar. the rooms were cleaned very well every day and we had clean towels every day.
The pool was too deep for me to go in as Im not a strong swimmer. But on the whole we had a good holiday, basically you get what you pay for.

We had half board late deal from First Choice £209 each.
Raymond head waiter in the restaurant is brill, really helpful and funny.
Downstairs there is a gym and inside pool which is free. There is a sauna and spa which you pay for but is cheap!
The pool side bar is very reasonable, avoid the bar over the road from the hotel, expensive and not very good beer!!
You take things as you find them and for us the San Pawl hotel was well worth it.
Our only problem gnats, we had a lot of bites, but this is a fact of life in Malta!

Rooms are spacious and very clean, maid cleans every day and changes towels. Food excellent, plenty of choices, all self service, very clean staff very helpful. Quite a large hotel, good size indoor pool, outside pool a little small, be wary of the depth changes can be quite deep, not suitable for anybody with young children, not really a shallow end. Plenty of sun beds and plenty of room to relax. The pool bar is very reasonably priced not expensive considering it is a hotel, just a few cents more than in the town. Food at lunchtime in pool area, can be a little slow in the service but worth waiting for - good quality. Entertainment could be improved but maybe this is because it is quite early in the season. On the whole a very good hotel, reasonable location and would recommend visiting.

The room was basic but it had everything we needed.
The entertainment was disappointing though. It was aimed at people over 60 and being 18 this wasn't much good for me!
The food was nice. They had a lot of choice for breakfast and a smaller choice for dinner but we still enjoyed it.
The hotels location is right by a few bars, restaurants and small shops. It is about a 10 min walk from the centre of Bugibba where there is a wide range of shops, bars, restaurants, souvenir shops etc

I feel that for my own purposes I had my money's worth - but forget about a peaceful night on the street side of hotel - except between 1.00 and 4.30 a.m. Maltese are quite noisy and the driving is the worst in Europe.
Streets in a very broken down condition so watch where you are walking if elderly.
The entertainment was well-supported by residents although I didn't attend.
Many people will find this a very adequate base for a one or two week first holiday visit - many residents return year after year though.

| said: We have just come back from a weeks holiday in the San Pawl and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
My first advice is to stop reading the reviews. They will only make you worry unnecessarily. We swapped hotels twice due to reading bad reviews and after speaking with people staying at the hotels found it to be a waste of time as they were not that bad at all. Everybody has completely different standards.
We found the San Pawl hotel a very friendly place to stay.
The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
The rooms were cleaned everyday and we had clean towels daily. The room was basic but had everything we needed.
The food was nice with a different choice of menu everyday. However the cost of our holiday was very cheap so we could afford to eat out of the hotel on several occasions.
Overall we had a lovely holiday and would recommend the hotel to anyone.

| said: Arrived at Hotel late in the evening. Thought the room looked a bit tired and shabby. I was alloacted a third floor room. It was only in the night that I found out th real problem. It was like being in an earthquake. There is a large airconditioning unit for the whole hotel on the roof and all night long this switches on and off. Sound like the dustcart and the bed was shaking. Could not take anymore and dressed and went down to reception at 4.45 am following morning. The next day I waas offered another room. This time above the laundry. Before accepting I asked if the laundry worked at night. I was told it did not. I found out the next morning that the staff arrive before seven and that is when the machine noise starts up. Lucky that I did not need a lie in. Publc areas shabby. The staff were helpful and took my problem seriously. Found the food to be alright and some of the entertainment was good. All in all I would not use this hotel again. I have stayed in Malta five times this year and previous years and this is the worst experience I have had. I have noticed on several reports on Malta hotels that people have mentioned the bathroom smell. I have experienced this on many occasions and now carry airfreshners with me.

We had paid extra for a superior room, ha ha. when we asked about our room the maid told us this is a superior room the other rooms are really bad.
Tried to speak to hotel manager who put his hand up to my face and told me to stop fussing?
The food was yuk we had to ask after 8 days for fresh bedding and the broken leaking shower room which had bare wires hanging from the broken hairdryer, was as I was told fine to use, even though it leaked through to the room under ours.
Never ever again, hell hole and had to eat out every day!

The overall standard has improved greatly. We booked a superior room, it was cleaned well every day and clean towels and bedding provided often. When the chambermaid had been in the bathroom always smelt lovely, really fresh.
The food was much, much nicer than last year. There was more of it, it was hotter and more palatable.
I think the hotel has been sending their staff on courses for public relations. Everyone was much more approachable.
The entertainment is still the only thing we didn't really enjoy. It is the same thing every night.

| said: Just arrived back from San Pawl Hotel & found the whole experience a good one.
The hotel is in a good location. The staff are all friendly, including the lady on reception.
We did have a problem with the meals. Two members of the party are vegetarian and we did book two vegetarian meals prior to our visit, although this was ignored and for the first night there was no dinner available. However Raymond the head chef was very accommodating the problem was resolved the next day. Also the children’s menu could do with some expanding. They did strange children’s meals, like pizzas with olives on, not all children like this, mine didn’t anyway.
The whole menu could do with some more imagination, as it is pretty basic, all cooked to a good standard though.
The outside pool is very deep! There is a small toddlers section, although my children found the need to wonder near the deep part, which frightened me. The loungers around the pool are hard to get hold of, as people reserve them by placing their towels on them, very early in the morning.
We stayed on the first floor and had a massive balcony, most are smaller, I think there were about 7-8 large balconies, all on the first floor.
The rooms were cleaned daily, the bathroom was not very nice though. A very strange smell of sewerage in there and brown water down the toilet, we did complain and the problem was resolved but the smell and brown water came back a couple of days later.
We did see one cockroach in the hotel corridor, which was disposed of fairly promptly.
All in all a fairly good stay, obviously not the Ritz, but still ok.
Also the entertainment is boring, very repetitive and they play the same songs over and over.

The standard rooms were smelly and so small. The next morning we were changed to a supereior room, what a difference much bigger with air conditioning, fridge and hair dryer. The rooms were cleaned daily and the maids were very friendly. The food was bland and not that nice. There was a childrens menu offered daily which was quite nice. The hotel entertainment was repetitive and very boring. The Thursday night barbacue is nice but very busy so expect to wait a long time for your food. The hotel pool is very dangerous and deep unless you are a good swimmer i would not recommend swimming. The pool is also very dirty and my husband and son have both picked up ear infections caused by the water in the pool.

When you get to know him you realise its just his job that hes trying to safe guard. Our room was always clean as was our bedding and towels. The food is good, better than some 4 star hotels ive stayed in their. The managment and the evening receptionist (an old happy fella) even helped us collect plastic bottle tops (charity) for a very poorley little boy in England, they were so happy to help us. Nice out door area eg pools seating. Entertainment good most nights.

We found cockroaches in our room, and when we told the management, he just told us to keep our windows and doors shut!
The hotel food was below standard. There was restriction of choice, and food wasnt cooked properly. There was one pudding and the alternative was always watermelon.
The location was good. Easy access to good shops, bars and restaurants and the view was amazing!
The bar staff were very friendly, especially Wally and Renaldo! Apart from 1 young receptionist, the others didn't seem to care much and the dining staff took your plates away whilst you were still eating!
The entertainment was good, but very repetitive in the stuff they did. At weekends it was packed because the residents of malta would come in.
I have to say this holiday was quite upsetting because it was meant to be a treat for myself and my daughter after a really tough year!

Our room was tiny and very hot.The "air-conditioning"
was a ceiling fan which made odd noises.
The room was not cleaned every day and on the days it was supposed to have been cleaned it was still quite "grubby".We upgraded to a superior room, this was wonderful.Proper air-conditioning and much cleaner.
The food.It was edible but very basic. Not enough "traditional" choices.
Good location.Just 2 minutes away from the sea front.Walk just to the street corner and experience the Maltese buses.Cheap way to get around the island.
Most of the hotel staff were really nice. One lady on reception was a bit of a "dragon".The Airtours rep was a very pleasent young man.
The entertainment wasn't brilliant but "entertaining" never the less. The Maltese people come to see it so you have to grab a seat quick.(More so at the weekends)
We are going back this year, looking forward to it as well.

The food wasn't very nice but it was edible there wasn't enough choice. Every evening meal was followed by "cake",supposed to be apple pie, lemon meringue !!! All looked like they came from the same bakery and all tasted the same (somewhat soapy.)
The hotel location is fantastic only a 5 minute walk to the sea front and the local town of Buggiba. The Maltese people are friendly enough and say good evening to you as you walk past.
The hotel staff where lovely apart from the lady on reception with glasses and curly hair. The waiters and waitresses where very helpful and friendly always willing to please. The outside bar staff also friendly and have a laugh with there customers.
The entertainment was OK if you got there early enough to grab a seat as the "locals" come most nights but especially at the weekends.
We are going back to the hotel in September 2004 this year and are looking forward to it.

| said: I spent 5 weeks here and found the food really good plenty of choices. The staff were friendly, helpful, polite. The hotel is in a good location. 5 minutes walk to the sea,and bus stops to go around the Island. The Maltese are a wonderful race.and Around The San Pawl and throughout the beautiful Island it is safe to be out alone as the crime rate is low.The indoor pool is ideal for kiddies and adults. Both pools are clean and the hotel is maintained to a high standard. 24 hour reception.and good security. The only drawback was if one wanted to stay in the bar to enjoy the entertainment, it is almost impossibe to get a seat, due to non residents filling the place.I am returning to the San pawl in November, for 6weeks.I have nothing but praise for it.
