We have just returned from holiday, the hotel was much better than I had thought it was going to be having read reviews before we went I didn't expect much. Room was kept clean daily but food was a hit or a miss. We have an 8 year old daughter who lived on cucumber and fruit. Food is so cheap outside we didn't worry that they didn't cater for her. Brochure said it was ideal for families and couples then why did they allow groups of around 20 young guys who took great delight in singing when returning to their rooms around 4am. didn't put us off and we would definately return

Food, breakfast luke warm but edible dinner don't bother terrible. Take my advice eat out it's safer.

Room, my girlfreind has a spine problem which causes great pain when walking and climbing stairs requested 1st or 2nd floor you guessed it put on 10th.

Lifts much too small for size of hotel. Had to pay £25 to be moved to 2nd floor. Room ok nice seaview but sheets not changed all week and not hoovered. Bed had seen better days.

Pool bar staff brillant but the rest only understood English when you tipped them.

Will not be going back to Bulgaria

ps departure time 01.45 asked about keeping room until 00.00 had to pay 90lev about £33.00 I have stayed in 5 star hotels that only charged £20 a rip off

I went in a large group of friends of various ages and found this hotel slightly dated but excellent value.

We arrived very late at night after a 3 hour delay but the staff couldn't be more helpful ensuring that everyone was sorted to their rooms as quickly as possible and the staff at the lobby bar were more than happy to stay open late into the night to ensure we all had a couple of nightcaps, in fact the staff were so good we ended up there most nights till late in the morning.

The rooms although a bit dated but were extremly clean and roomy with good bathrooms and the tv had more English channels then most places I've stayed. Our towels were changed daily and sheets always seemed fresh.

The food however was poor breakfast was OK and set you up for the day but the dinner was rather poor and although edible was a bit warm and samey. However there are many excellent cheap local resturants so we often went out (however all local dishes were luck warm).

All the staff were friendly and polite particulary the lobby barman and the pool waiters. The pool was cold and bit too small for the size of the hotel but it's praticularly on the beach which had plenty of room.
The lifts were dodgy and we used the stairs when we could.

The worst thing about our holiday was the rep who was off hand and actively discouraged members of the party from taking trips (all except reps night and bar crawl) and refused to book our seats on the plane unless all 25 of us paid (when we got to the airport we all were sat together anyway).

All in all a good basic hotel in an excellent location to explore the resort.

Grand Hotel on first arrival was very nice.

Reception staff and porter staff were also very helpful and nice.

The staff in the lobby bar were totally different, there was one night we asked for a cocktail, but it must have been too much like hard work, he returned to say it was not available, so we went outside to pool bar where it was no problem there...? Needless to say we never returned to the lobby bar. Pool bar staff really nice and cant do enough to help.

The room...very 1970s looking plenty of space and kept very clean everyday by the cleaners.

The food...breakfasts were first class really good.

Evening meals...please take this advice and eat out. They were awful. Plenty of other people complained as well. We as others complained to our rep, but to no avail, she said their quality controller was looking into it. You would have thought they would have done that in May.

Finally our rep...total waste of space - at our welcome meeting she told us about all the usual excursions, she highly recommended the lazy day cruise (a 3/4 day cruise on a boat with swimming, fishing can diving and cruising along Sunny Beach and Nessebar) she also recommend to book our return seats to make sure we sit next to each other. Well that didn’t happen we were horizontal.

As for the cruise we got picked up at 10am taken to the boat for about 11am,
set sail for 45 mins then spent 1 hour fishing then taken back to Nessebar harbour where we went swimming for 5 mins then dropped off at the hotel at 3.45 it was shocking we paid £50 for that.

Complained to the rep, she said she would look into it, saw her the following day she asked but she didn’t get a reply; we were told we were the only complaint so basically go away.

Our holiday was nice 2 things spoilt it for us - the evening meal and our rep.

The staff very helpful.

Nothing wrong with the pool abit cold at times but clean and the staff on the pool bar were excellent Cristo and Sasha were very good with my daughter.

We were booked into the Grand Sunny beach hotel for 14 nights.

On arrival at about 04:00am there were no porters on duty, we were given our room key by a receptionist who seemed to have little if any interest in welcoming guests.

The room was excessivly small with no seating, the carpets were ill fitted and sticking up. The door was hanging off the cupboard which housed the mini bar, there was 1 small wardrobe with only 3 hangers inside and the rooms walls were dirty.

The Bathroom hand basin had a plug that was seized so you could not fill the basin with water, the toilet seat was chipped & the waste trap in the shower was corroded.

We were awoken at 06:45am by a rubbish waggon under the window emptying hotel & market bins (this continued for about 30 minutes)

At breakfast the food was cold, greasy boiled eggs when shelled & cut open were black inside there was no butter only unrefrigerated margarine, there was no fruit juice & the coffee was just luke warm.

We saw the rep at about 09:00am, informing her of the problems she stated that "we had what we had paid for" . We insisted that the conditions were unacceptable and requested a transfer to a real 4 star hotel. She said that she did not know if it would be possible and that she would get back to us, bur repeated that we had what we had paid for.

At about 13:00pm the rep returned with the offer of a transfer to another hotel, which she added "IS 4 Star"

We accepted the offer (it was indeed an excellent 4 star hotel) we did have to pay nn extra £80.00 (but I will be claiming tht back)

The experience was a very disappointing & distressing start to our holiday. we will never re-visit the Grand.

Well let me start, the staff at reception were not nice.

The duo played the same songs each night. The food was not very good. The waiting staff never smiled only if you give them a tip. We had three rooms, leaking toilet, leaking shower, leaking sink and the air con never worked, the power sockets in the rooms never worked, lifts never worked.

The pool was very cold and murky, never cleaned. Just one bloke watering the plants. We were all ill 3 days in to the holiday due to their food. We had to eat out as there was no English food on display at our hotel. We showed our room number went in had a look what was on the menu and walked out, and the women who took our number was a sad face.

The Grand Hotel was spotless clean.

Our room was of ample size and the maid changed the beds and towels everyday.

I have a give the food a low rating simply because of the lack of choice, all the food was hot and if your willing to take a risk on something new every day then you will be ok. I tried different foods and really enjoyed them, my wife and daughter were a bit more picky.

Breakfasts were not very good, but there was always something you could eat, the toaster was very slow. The baked potato man right outside the hotel did great business with the guests.

The Grand is situated right in the centre of the resort with a 30 second walk to the beach.

The pool is nice.

The staff were all very friendly, polite and courteous, even when they were getting abuse from irate guests, after 3 days of no water between 5pm and 9pm.

The hotel entertainment was poor, a young girl and a bloke, playing a keyboard and a guitar and singing old songs.

The pool bar was the best form of entertainment for the hotel playing all sorts of popular music from early morning to late at night.

Yes I would visit this hotel again, and would recommend it to any of my friends.

I travelled with my family to the "Grand" but fortunately we had read a few reviews of this hotel before we travelled so we weren't disappointed!!!!!

Now let me start with the food, luke warm at best I would describe it, not a great deal of choice but at least it was better than "el trebol"in Lanzarote last year!!!!!!

The location could not really be better with plenty of things to do, which helped as there is no entertainment laid on by the hotel.

The staff all seemed to be in another world with faces as long as fiddles, especially on the reception desk where one receptionist was expert in the art of opening her hands out to gesture that it was "nothing to do with her" each time a request was made.

The lifts as promised were very unreliable and I lost count of the times that we had to climb the stairs to the seventh floor because the lifts were being "serviced."

The pool again as promised was rather milky in colour and although it only 1.4m deep you could not see past your knee when you were standing in it, I only witnessed it being cleaned once in a fortnight, luckily the beach is in close proximity.

The waitress in the bar was very helpful until you "forgot" to tip her, then she transformed herself into a regular member of staff.

Enough of the faults the rooms were quite big and I believe that they had recently been renovated.

I had no problems with the hot water, and the rooms were kept quite clean.

I'm going to tell you the truth and warn you that:
The food is absolutely disgraceful, it is cold stale sometimes uncooked. My mother, father, 2 daughters, husband and I were all ill and missed out on two day of my holidays. I tried complaining but staff weren't interested and said nobody else has complained. I know this was a lie because several people I spoke to said the had been ill.

The pool was cold, milky, and unsuitable for children and adults to go into. There was an incident in the hotel when someone got rushed to hospital after standing on a glass bottle.

The lifts are very frightening they stop in between floors and a lady in a wheelchair got stuck as the door closed in on her.

The hotel rooms were very clean and spacious.

The showers are freeeeezing after 5:30pm.

We stayed in the Grand Hotel Sunny Beach in June this year the food was diabolical, the staff unfiendly, only in the pub adjacent was great.

My baby girl was very ill taken to hospital with pneumonia and I had to carry her down 7 flights of stairs at 3.30 am in the morning as lifts wasn't working yet again.

Without doubt one of the most attentive to cleanliness minded hotels we have stopped at. The maid service was A1, cleaned every day, new towels every day and clean bedding twice a week.

Food was plentiful and varied and also well cooked. But, as we had been warned, the only thing kept at the right temperature was the ice cream!!! There were plenty of cheap, good restaurants nearby so if, like us, warm food isn't to your taste it's no hardship to go and buy a good meal.

The location can't be faulted. It's bang in the centre of the resort with shops, bars etc right on the doorstep and you only need walk out of the back door past the small, cold swimming pool and you are on a beautiful beach!

The staff like the rest of the locals were friendly and helpful but you need to make the effort to speak to them first usually.

Forget about entertainment, a duo every evening playing the same songs in the same order was all it consisted of. Plenty of good entertainment on the doorstep though.

Only other minor fault (again we had been warned about) was the lifts. Only two and small for the size of the hotel sometimes meant lenghy waits only to find the lift was full!! Prone to breaking down and stopping between floors as well.

Definately worth another visit though. Thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Some people will always find something to moan about!!

We arrived late at the hotel after we were told that we were getting upgraded from our original hotel to the Grand at the airport.

The hotel was very central for main shopping area and beach.

Swimming pool was nice, which our daughter had use of as we felt it was a bit cold.

View from our rooms were towards Nesebar which was nice.

The food was tasty, enjoyable, 2 to 3 options a little repetative but overall enjoyable. Out of our group. some 29 in all. most ate in every night and a special thanks to staff and Brian the rep for making my own birthday meal very special.

The hotel seemed to be cleaned 24-7 to a very high standard. The location was superb, centrally to the whole resort with a excellent variety of shops, street stalls, snack bars, bars & entertainment. The staff were efficient, friendly, helpful & polite.

The only entertainment was at night in the dining hall a duo singing, it was plesant entertainment as we ate. The suuny bar attached was excellent, snacks, drinks & staff were top (Maya, Jana, Luke & Peter).

I must add 2 or 3 of the group had some stomach upset but this seemed to be common throughout the resort? Holiday bug perhaps.

Arrived in Bulgaria ahead of time no problems so far.

Hotel in great location right at the beach just as brochure says still ok.

Went to freshen up before going down to dinner --- oh dear no hot water, not just cold water coming out of hot tap no water at all. We were on the tenth floor and this set the pattern for the next two weeks, both in the morning and at night. The excuse the rep gave us was that they were filling the pool. (Which was freezing).

Went down to dinner it was ok the first night maybe first 2 nights then it went downhill drastically. Food not only cold but only half cooked it seemed to be this way all over the resort. As a result of this both my husband and I spent a good chunk of the holiday not being able to go far from the toilet. Again the rep (who was useless) blamed the pool and said it was the water in the pool to blame, funny that considering I hadn’t actually been in the pool!

The rooms were a great size very clean the maids were very good nothing to much trouble for them.

All in all if the food and been cooked and hot this would have been a great hotel.

The only entertainment the hotel had was a man and a woman singing in the dining room every night the same songs every night very boring.

This hotel should not be advertised as a 4 star hotel.

The decoration was 'tired' and in our mini suite the walls were dirty with feet marks on the walls in some areas.

The room was quite large but I did pay extra for a 'junior' suite, in essence it was just a larger room but cost £70 extra. It was cleaned daily with clean towels each day and we had a fantastic view from our 3rd floor room.

BEWARE if you have a family, channel 2 on the TV has full blown porn showing after midnight, a couple on the next table a breakfast told us their kids had switched on one evening which caused some embarrassment.

The food was repetitive and not always hot. The bacon and sausage at breakfast was uneatable. We only had the evening meal 3 times. I did have 'fresh veg' one night but you could have used the sprouts as snooker balls.
Eating out is very cheap with good hot food.

The hotel bar was dreary, I used the Globus hotel bar, every night it was BOGOF from 6pm to closing.

I didn't use the pool but noticed the usual towels on beds very early.

Stayed at Grand Hotel Sani beach for a week from 31/8/04, on a half board basis.

The hotel is in a good location, right in the centre of the resort and on the promenade front. Standard of accommodation is okay, with clean spacious bedrooms...usual facilities of balcony, tv, fridge etc.

You need to watch the lifts - we were stuck in them on 2 separate occassions, with the doors only opening up to show a brick wall. The lift doors also do not appear to be sensored and will close on you if you are in the way.

We found the staff attitudes to be fairly mixed...with some being friendly and some not even willing to smile! Their english was not fantastic and often they misunderstood what you were asking.

Food in the hotel is dire - not only is the choice of food unacceptable, but it also tends to be under cooked or not reheated throughly - and we actually lost 2 days of our holidays....in bed with food poisoning (as diagnosed by a doctor). There were a lot of other holiday makers from our hotel who were also unwell and in a similar position.

There is a good restaurant/bar attached to the back of the hotel and the food in there is much better - even the staff from this restaurant (which belongs to the hotel) say that they wouldn`t eat in the hotel...as it`s that bad!!

We travelled to Bulgaria on 23rd August 2004 with Thomas Cook and was one of the best holidays we have been on.

The airport was a disaster I think our front living room was bigger! It was even worse because we had a night flight (took off 2am) and we were delayed, but the hotel was great!

The lifts were very dodgy got stuck in them on first day! The staff were lovely and helpful.

The room was lovely we had interconnecting rooms which was great because it was just two rooms with a door in the middle, so we had 2 t.v's, 2 bathrooms and 2 balconies! The rooms were lovely and clean and the maids did a great job.

The entertainment was a complete joke! a duo who "sang" the same songs every night!

The location was brilliant just over the road from the beach which was great and two minutes walk from the centre, which was good because you were not in the centre so it wasn't noisy but close enough to walk to.

The swimming pool was nice but freezing! the sea was warmer than the swimming pool! The poolside bar was great.

The food was was brilliant, for breakfast there was fresh fruit, cereals, toast(the toaster was really slow though!) eggs and bacon. The dinner was even better with a different soup each night, lots of different meats, bread, fruit, chips and fish. the puddings were lovely with lots of different cakes!

Everything was so cheap to buy! We got 2 vodkas, 2 pints, 2 cokes and a sprite for £1.50! I would definitely go back and I would reccomend it to anyone!

Just go and you will enjoy yourself as much as we did!

Where shall I start....? We never used the pool as contrary to the brochure photos it was tiny & everyone was crammed round on the grass.

The food was dreadful. All 5 of us were ill with food poisoning - my husband for a full week. Talking to others at the hotel, most people were ill.

We found the hotel staff for the most part rude & unhelpful. On at least 2 occasions items walked from our room, only to return when we complained (except for my daughters camera & some nappies). There was no apology.

We hired a car so we could leave the resort. Only to find that there is nowhere to park, as, if you park on the street (or where you are advised to by the staff & reps), the cars are impounded on a daily basis. It is, we found out, a common occurrence & another couple found the only way round it is to pay approx. £10/day for a private car park.

The reps never warn you & we have since complained.

We eventually learned to avoid the lifts. The doors appear to have no sensors so you take your life into your hands when you go in the doors. People were frequently trapped in them (us included).

The worst holiday we have ever had.

We arrived early hours in the morning so all you want to do is go to bed. The porter took your baggage to the LIFT, well we were on the 12th floor when it gose past the 6th its like an old cart pulled by a pit donkey so we thought where have we come.
But the room was nice and clean there was a tv on the table which you had sit on your bed to watch it you could not lie down.
The food to bo honest was no upto much we went in twice for the week we were there but it was so cheap to eat out and have what you want.
If you go out of the back of the hotel there is a restaraunt you could say joined to the hotel it dose supperb food and very cheap steaks.
The entertainment NO but again 100s of bars and discos.
The location is right on the beach and centre of the resort can not get any better.
The ladies on the reception are very helpful.
Overall i would go back to this hotel to me its rated as a spanish 3star dont be put off by anybody try it yourself.

Right... my fingers are streched, my back in a comfy position!
This is because I am going to write a long, detailed review on The Grand Hotel Sunny Beach; and what an awful hotel it is!

We have just got back from Bulgaria, we stayed in the above hotel for 14 nights on half board status, anyway!...
THE FOOD: The restaurant food IS hot, I think the manageress has had enough complaints about the food being warm that she has actualy decided to offer hot food.
THE FOOD IS REALLY BAD! It's very bland and dull, every night is the same, one member of our group had three pieces of UNDERCOOKED chicken- it was oozing with blood and red.
Sausage, chicken, beef, pork= all red due to undercooking!
We heard a family complaining to their Rep. due to food trays having new food put ontop of the old food, so old and new food was mixed! The sides of the buffet trays were cleaned with a cloth that was used to clean the floor! and bring hot dishes out to tables.
Cutlery that fell on the floor was put back on the cutlery tray- so if you are going to the Grand Hotel Sunny Beach, and you feel hungry, GOOD LUCK!!
P.S. Bread from breakfast time was left over for dinner, then again for breakfast next morning! ( Extremely stale)

THE HOTEL ITSELF: All receptionists are very friendly, they speak very good English and German, porters are friendly, they help you with luggage and open your safe (if you have rented one) cleaners we found were very good in the first week, but slacked off by the second- my towels wern't taken away even though they were on the floor on some days.

The lobby bar is very nice, they serve all major drinks.. you know.. there are two main waitresess, one is friendly, one isn't.

THE POOL: Oh dear! I think there are roughly um,...30 swimming pools on the promanade beloning to hotels, they all looked nice and crystal clear and clean, BUT not the Grand Hotel! No- every night all the other pools were pumbed clean, but was the Grand?- NO! It's, dirty, murky and the water looks like milk!
There was broken glass botels hanging around where holiday makers sunbathed with their children, but did any member of staff clean the pool area? NO!

ROOMS: In general.. Ok, paint work was falling away, carpets were rucked, scurting boards were broken, we had two suites and both were just as bad so we could compare.
The Grand Hotel Sunny Beach is rated as 4*, but it doesn't really make that grade at all! Oh, and our other suites balcony was crumbling away.

THE LIFTS: Well, have you ever gone on a horse and cart? No, then go in one of their two lifts and you will find out what it's like to ride a horse! The first day we were there, I went from the ground floor to floor 1, the doors opend and I found myself looking at a piece of concrete... Yes, the lift had stopped in-between floors!
And refering to the horse and cart thing, the lifts are so rickety and loud, a man was called out, wait for it... 5 times in the two weeks we were there to fix the flaming things!

Okay, so now you've read that and your thinking, "that family must moan about everything and anything" we go away every year and never complain about a thing, many many other families were upset with the hotel, one women even thretend to fly home because she was hatting it so much, she has been all around the world, and The Grand Hotel Sunny Beach is the worst hotel she has ever been to!

We stayed in The Grand Hotel for 2 weeks on a half board basis. The Hotel is very clean. Our wee cleaner who looked after our room was a gem. Rooms spotless as was the reception areas, toilets etc. Couldn't really comment on cleanliness of pool area as we spent most of out time at the beach. Only criticism is pool area is too small for size of hotel and it is survival of the fittest to get a sunbed - can't blame Germans here the brits were to blame!!!Play fair guys if you book a sunbed - lie on it.. The food was fine, fresh, good enough variety. The location is first class - right in the centre of Sunny Beach, beach a stone's throw away -brilliant. The Hotel staff were excellent - spoke very good english and very helpful - nothing was a problem. We felt the atmosphere very relaxed and laid back. There are pool tables in the pool area and a games room on the first floor - enough to keep kids entertained. We would defintely visit again...

Firstly the good bits!
We arrived at The Grand Hotel Sunny Beach in the early hours of the morning and were pleasantly surprised by our room.It was spacious with a double bed, pull out bed, sofa, dressing table and fridge. The bathroom was clean and we had a lovely view of the beach from the balcony. It was also right on the main promenade.

All the hotel staff were helpful and friendly especially our cleaning lady who did a great job,we even found our clothes neatly folded if anything was left lying around and she would come back several times rather than disturb you.Reception/bar/dining room were also very clean.

Not for the not so good bits!

There seemed to be a sickness/tummy bug going around that i suffered from for much of my holiday here. There were lots of other people in our hotel with the same symptoms which made us think it was maybe the food or the pool!
The food was mostly luke warm and the selection was poor especially for kids.My son isn`t particularly fussy but all he would eat there was chips and a bit of chicken. There was the usual salad bar and soup which were o.k but even the deserts weren`t appealing.Breakfast was dodgy sausages/bacon/runny scrambled eggs and chips! There was no fresh juice, just cordial. You could make toast though and there was a coffee machine.

The pool was quite small and there were no really shallow areas so it wouldn`t really be suitable for children who can`t swim.A lot of the tiling was loose around the edge and i actually hurt my foot on this.It also wasn`t very clean. In the fortnight i was there i didn`t see anybody clean it (i go abroad every year and usually see the pools cleaned daily).

The lifts were also a bit of a hazard.Luckily we were only on the third floor but i heard of lots of people getting stuck in them and on a rare occasion when i used one the door closed as soon as i started to enter it,bruising my arm.

The only entertainment was a duo singing during dinner in the dining room though to be fair the brochure didn`t say there was any entertainment.

Basically, this hotel has good rooms and location if they could just sort out the food, the lifts and clean the pool!

The rep was Bulgarian and she informed us that the Bulgarian chefs in the hotels were not up to speed with the English meals, how right she was!! eg. breakfast, yes you could get cereals full stop. The butter if you wanted toat was floating in a pool of water!! Most of the food or should I say the whole of the food was cold. The rep also infomred us that apart from your RIU and Iberostar hotel were up to International quisine, again hence that is why we ate out at the restaurants all of the time, bang went our money, so much for all inclusive. If you really find the need to go to Bulgaria, if you do not go in one of the above mentioned Hotels, I would strongly advise you all to go self catering.

Again, when we complained, please note the above information came from a Bulgarian which speaks volumes.

The cleanliness of the Hotel you could not fault, entertainment non-existant.

The Grand Hotel Sunny Beach is certainly worth it's 4 stars. The Hotel must be one of the best in Bulgaria let alone Sunny Beach. Only the Hotel Victoria towards the northern end of the resort looked better.

The hotel is spotless rooms are cleaned daily even door handles are polished. Bed linen is also changed daily and the carpets are hoovered so your room is extremely clean.

The food is buffet but of a very high quality and waiter service is available on request. There is a choice of food in the evening with a starter, main course and desert.

Breakfast is not to be missed whether you like cereals
or a traditional English Breakfast. Sit outside and have breakfast Al Fresco in the warming early morning sun.

The Grand Hotel is in an excellent location in the centre of the resort and just a 5 minute walk to the major shops, restaurants and bars.

The staff are friendly and always willing to help with advice on the resort and where it is best to change money.

The rooms are large and spacious with excellent facilities. The beds are soft and the rooms are serviced regularly by the hotel staff.

Entertainment is somewhat limited to music being played by the Pool Bar. The swimming pool is clean and spacious ideal after going for a swim on the warm evenings.

I would certainly go back to the hotel again.
