When we arrived we were offered an upgrade to the San Jorge and we would have a sea view for an extra 60 euros but were told all rooms were the same in all parts of the hotel. We had a 10min drag of the cases to our room. The rooms were clean & tidy but they only changed the towels every 3 days and the sheets once a week ? & you had to be lucky if you had your room cleaned. Rooms were well equipped oven microwave etc but no aircon so we hired a fan for 20 euros

Food was the same every night and is not recommended the only plus side was that you could order bottles of wine/Sangria with your meals !!! nice medium white

There were 3 pools all very cold quite clean but have seen better I thought the hotel was very quiet we could have a sun bed anywhere any time none of the usual towels at 7am I am used too in other resorts

The entertainment was basic in the Buffalo Bar the hotels own team did their best in the day & in the evening but looked like but they must have been doing the same every week all season & looked bored

We booked this hotel after seeing good on this site reviews and looking at the hotel over Xmas when we stayed at the Costa Caletta.

We booked a 1 bed apartment in the the San Jorge but on arrival we were put into the Antigua.

Check in was good, reception area clean but it was late (2135) and the restaurant was closed so we were presented with a bottle of water, an apple and a sandwich each so went to the Chinese instead.

The 1 bed apartments are large with ample storage and reasonably kitted out although we never used the kitchen as we were AI.

The towels are only changed every 3 days and the bed linen every 7 days. There is no air con in the rooms, there was ample supplies of hot water. Cleaning of the apartment was not the best and consisted of a quick brush of the floor.

We were there 10 days and the mop was only put around once and I do not think it was dusted at all. TV in lounge had CNN and Sky news as the only English channels, no remote.
Cleaning of the public corridors and pool areas was laughable with the cleaners dipping their mops into their buckets and then just spreading the water around the floor and then allowing it to dry out in the sun/wind.

The same toilets serve the pool areas and the bars, these are only cleaned once per day early in the morning and my wife often found them filthy by the evening with excrement on the seats, gents toilets fared a bit better and were normally acceptable.

The condition of the toilets was probably not helped by the fact that the lights go out 30 seconds after going in to the toilets because of timer switches.

Food in the buffet is not the best, often cold and not well presented. The show cook chefs? especially at breakfast looked as if it was the first time they had seen a kitchen.

A lot of this food was cooked and then put back on to re-heat not a very good practice especially with pork or chicken.

Desserts very poor and not much of a selection. You will not go hungry but it did not suit us. The food and service in the pool bar/cafe was normally better for lunch than the buffet restaurant, although there is only 1 girl serving there and at times service could be a bit slow at least the food was normally hot.

In the evening there are 2 bars open the, English bar in the Antigua and the saloon bar in the Suites although yet again only 1 person behind each bar, well what do you expect for AI. Both these bar people did very well considering but I dread to think what its like when it's busy. A I drinks finish at 2300 hours.

The entertainment is in the Saloon bar had is the usual, if you have been to Caleta before you will have seen them all.

Drinks, lager is not bad, pretty strong, as is the wine, but the shorts seem weak although they put plenty in the glass.
Pools are not heated and are freezing sun beds look as if they have not had a bit of soap and water in years.

Cushions are available for hire at 2 euros /day + 5 euros deposit, towels can be hired from reception.

Most efficient part of the hotel is reception, friendly, good English and will help or arrange things for you quickly.

Taxi from the airport is about 10-12 Euros and there are normally plenty available as long as you don't hang about too long getting your luggage.

Would we stay at this hotel again definitely not!! it seems to have gone down hill since previous reports.

Arrived 2 hours late after a delay at Bristol and were checked in quickly and efficiently. Although booked into Antigua we were actually put in to the San Jorge complex.

First impressions; the room was large clean and well equipped. We were overlooking the road at the front of the hotel, but it was one of the quietest hotels I've ever stayed in! No air con so it was a bit hot at night.

The hotel was nicely done, with plenty of plants, water features, an aviary and some good play areas for the children.

We used the pool in the Antigua site most days as it was quieter and in the sun the San Jorge pool was in a courtyard area and a bit shady.

Outside there is a walkway which leads along the sea to the beach with chipmunks on the rocks bit of a walk but its flat!

Can't really comment on food or entertainment as we didn't use those facilities.

I did find the supermarkets on site expensive so find a Netto or Spar in town instead. It's a fairly central location for the restaurants and shops all on level ground.

I was a bit concerned about aircraft noise but it was hardly noticeable, but there was a bit of building work going on outside which wasn't too bad but they did tend to start early !!

All in all the hotel met our needs for the week and the three Elba hotels seem to be the nicest ones in Caleta de fuste.

The Antigua aparthotel was the middle of three Elba owned apartment blocks.

The main reception for all three was at the Antigua. Could be a bit busy at times especially at check in times and departures staff very friendly and all spoke very good English.

The rooms were very spacious and clean and fresh towels changed most days except Sunday and beds were very comfortable and no noise at night. Nearby Elba shop open until midnight very handy if your flights delayed !!!!!!

Although turning up three hours before the official check in time, we were told that we could leave our luggage in a 'left luggage' room and were told to return in half an hour, we were then checked in quickly and courteously and with the minimum of fuss.

We found our room easily and were very pleased on what we found, it was large and very clean, everything we needed.
The only complaint regarding the room was that the balcony overlooked other balconies and vice versa. Which meant for the sake of privacy we were unable to open our curtains fully for the whole week. This problem would only occur if you had a room which faced another one of the hotels.

One other point to note is that in the mornings staff would go about their daily duties, because of the courtyards below the sound travelled and what seemed like a conversation felt like a shouting match and the wheels on trolleys sounded like a train passing outside the door.

Otherwise the complex was brilliant, three very different pool areas in regards to atmosphere, the resort was central to all activities, a 10 min walk to the sandy man made beach, 5 min walk to the centre of town, a nice coastal path which lead you past the rocky coast line, past the chip monks, and onto the harbour area.

To top off a lovely holiday there was also a courtesy room, where we showered and changed and didn’t have the normal 8 hour wait after check out, all hot and bothered before flying out.

This hotel should have a 4 star rating it is fabulous! The staff were very helpful and friendly always available to help. Our room was very spacious we even had toaster and a microwave. The location is spot-on, its just so peaceful! We had a choice of 3 swimming pools, wait until you see the views! Can't wait to go back.

My partner and I stayed at the Castillo Antigua Apartments during the second week of May. We stayed in a spacious 1 bedroom apartment (as opposed to the studios). We were both very impressed with the apartments, very clean with staff taking good care of the complex on a daily basis (watering of plants, washing floors etc), definitely the best shower system I have had whilst abroad. We ventured to the pool on a couple of occasions, which was pleasant, not overly busy and loads of sun beds (which didn’t have towels on them at the crack of dawn).

We ordered a private taxi to our apartments, and upon arrival at the apartments (having missed the coach load) we were dealt with by reception staff quickly and efficiently, and were in our room just over an hour after landing. I would highly recommend getting a taxi to Caleta de Fuste, as it is approx 6euros, which is much cheaper and quicker than coach transfers, just ensure that you order a taxi early enough when you return to the airport. There is also a taxi rank up the road.

Location is ideal, a pleasant stroll to the beach and restaurants. Weather was lovely, perfect sunbathing conditions as you have a refreshing breeze, especially on the beach. Two sun-loungers and umbrella cost 9euros. It was sometimes cloudy first thing in the morning but blue skies by 10-11am. I would highly recommend these apartments.

The Antigua is part of three hotels/apartments linked together and I think this is definitely the pick of the bunch with the main reception, restaurant, snack bar and the best pool being located here.

It was our first trip abroad with our 16 month old son and the staff could not have been more accommodating to our needs. There are lifts situated throughout the hotel and good access for buggies throughout.

We didn't opt for the sea view (which costs extra) but we wished we had as it was spectacular and the main pool is almost like an infinity pool as the views of the ocean are that close.

The hotel leads on to the coastal path which was handy for walks with our son.

As for entertainment, we were back in the apartment with our son by 10 each night and it was a little loud (particularly the awful karaoke night) but you tend to ignore it after a while.

The supermarkets are a bit pricey but there are plenty of Nettos nearby which are reasonable but do check the milk as it seems to go off really quickly.

There were refurbishment works taking place all across the site but everyone seemed to work quietly and generally out of sight which I was highly impressed with.

I would recommend this place highly and would go again.

This was a family holiday of 12, we had 4 children with us ageing from 4 to 12 so we needed plenty for them to do. The entertainment wasn't brilliant but the kids enjoyed it. Antonio was funny and ended up in the pool a few times.

The rooms were very clean towels were changed every 2 days and the sheets every 3 days. We had a sea view which we didn't ask for but it was lovely as the nights could be very warm.

The staff was very friendly and spoke very good English.

They were refurbishing the complex when we arrived but didn't interrupt our holiday.

The food was good but a bit expensive so we ate of the complex every night, there was plenty to choose from and within walking distance. If you wanted to go to the beach it was a good 10 minute walk with a crazy golf nearby, there was a marina with boat trips available and seals swimming around and peddle boats to use which we did and a good laugh.

There isn't alot of nightlife on this island and a lot of building work going on but you can still have a good time, we would go back in a couple of years when it is all finished as it was a lovely place.

We stayed here sept 2004.we were very pleased with the accommodation .we were opposite building works, so asked to upgrade to a sea view (we told about building work beforehand). This was well worth 70 euros. The view was amazing. Also when we moved the bed settee in the living room was much better than the other room. It was a fully sprung pull out one.

We had maid service everyday, clean towels etc.the pool was warm and very nice. We only had breakfast at the hotel which was the normal buffet breakfast. I would give this 6 out of 10.

We did go down to have a look in the dining area at night and the food looked very nice, but we are a couple who like to eat out. We ate 4 nights at the fado rock steak house, which was fabulous and cheap too.

Caleta de fuste is quiet (as we prefer).

We did get a jeep for a day, which was fun. We went looking for the American star shipwreck, 4 hrs later we still hadn’t found it, but did go off roading a lot and saw some fabulous views.

We got a taxi from the airport and this was only 10 euros, so don’t bother paying for transfers if you are staying here just get a cab. We thought this would be a great beach for children as the manmade beach is gently shelving and a bay.

Best to take some kind of footwear for in the sea as it is a bit rocky once you go out in the sea a bit. Another tip is when you go down to the beach take some bread, feed the fish in the sea and they will swim round you in their hundreds, I had a phobia of fish before, but don’t now.

We went shopping at the Atlantic at euro spar as this is the cheapest around; the taxi was about 3 euros from Antigua suites. There is also a really good shoe shop there too.

We did see the unfinished watermark on our travels, but I have no idea when that is due to be finished. My advice is not to use the car hire that is resident in the Antigua as we did.

We had to wait nearly two hours for a car that we only had for the day, which we asked for a cabrolet, which after 1 hr was told we would get a Suzuki jeep, then when we eventually got it was a jeep wrangler, very nice car but falling to bits.

They didn’t tell us what fuel to put in it etc.i think the company was morano.all in all we had a fab week and would definitely return here again.

It is part of a group of 3 tied together (San Jorge, Castillo Suites), so you can use any of the facilities.

The rooms are clean enough with good facilities for self catering.

The first problem we came across was that the rooms dont have any form of cooling, either air con or fans, when the temperatures at night are hot then basically you cannot sleep. Now this appears to be the norm in the resort, but not something Im used to.

We had a 1 bed apartment for 3 adults and 1 child, the representative in UK told us this would be fine, but to be honest it is too small for 3 adults and 1 child, the sofa beds have to be the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on, though the rep changed it for us to something a little better. This lead to a lack of sleep on holiday which probably wasnt a good start.

It was followed by 6:30 wake up calls from the building sites around us, and as we had to have the windows and patio open to keep cool, we were woken up early. I cant see this changing for some time as it is basically a building site right now, is whole the area.

The only entertainment was provided by the staff on site except for one night where they did a parrot show. They worked hard but just arent very good at the adult entertainment bit really.

There are some pools tables, table tennis, etc for kids, and the pool is nice and big but it does get very full and noisy as this is a family hotel. Not really great if you want a relaxing holiday I expect.

There are lovely views of the coastline, as the hotel is right on the front.

We only made one visit to the buffet restaurant for breakfast, and to be honest the food was pretty awful.

Had a great holiday here. Only a 10-15 minute walk from the beach and the same from a wide variety of restaurants and bars.

The entertainment was tacky but fantastic especially for the kids, they really made all the children feel welcome and involved. My kids were crying when our holiday was over and it was time to leave !! Kids club is pretty unstructured, which suited us, you needed to make sure you stayed close by as the kids can come and go as they like.

Rooms not the best, but certainly acceptable and plenty big enough. Main problem was the heat, with no air con it was almost unbareable some evenings, but fans can be hired fom reception.

Only bad thing for us was one of the cleaning staff swiped a watch from our room, which I stupidly left on view, staff were less than interested when I reported it, but my own fault for leaving it in teptations way in the first place.

Anyway, overall a fantastic holiday, we all really enjoyed it and would go back again.

I choose self catering as I like to try different restaurants each day. However, if I had wanted to eat in my apartment the facilities where great. fridge, microwave, cooker etc. The hotel is located near the sea front but you have to pay extra to have a sea view. My view was to the front of the hotel which was fine as the location was quiet. The entertainment was very poor, unless your 5 or under. The hotel had a good mix of guests and had a very friendly atmosphere. There is a pub attached to the hotel where most people met up for the last few hours, this was popular because the kids could sit/play in the patio area rather than inside a busy pub.
