Was really dreading this holiday after reading reviews as my sisters family and brothers family were also going. Bungalows were basic but clean, pool was ok but had tiles missing staff in the mirador i found helpful and friendly. Maid was quick and did complain when she didnt mop room or leave clean towels this was quickly sorted out at reception. Rep was totally uninterested in any complaints so I wouldnt bother going to him easier to go through reception with better results. All in we had a good a holiday but then its all what U make it

The apartments were very basic and i'm afraid to say cockroach infested. The maid came in most days but was only there for a milisecond.

The reception staff were very helpful and friendly.

The restaurant/bar here "the Mirador" was an absolute disgrace. The food was not worthy of being served up to a human being, we went in on the first night of our holidays and got served raw chicken, i am surprised it wasn't still clucking! the breakfast one day had carrots in the beans!

The entertainment they advertised outside the door was never on resulting in disappoined kids. The beer was off, the satellite TV was working until the day of the England v Croatia football match which was again advertised outside the door only for us to find that a man had taken the satellite reciever box away to another bar (after we had purchased drinks!)

I would not recommend the Mirador to anyone going to Castillo Beach.

Our party of 23 stayed at the Castillo Beach Sol appartments. On our arrival we were met by our rep who accompanied us on the bus that took us to our resort.I must say that she painted a bit of a grim picture of the place as she warned us of various scams to avoid, and how the island has lots of cockroaches!
We arrived quite late and it was dark. We were given the keys to our accommodation and a map (with our appartments highlighted) and a brief explanation on where to find them.
We found our accommodation to be clean and comfortable. The maid came every day except on Sunday to change towels and tidy the beds. We weren't troubled with cockroaches or ants- there was some spray provided just in case we were.
As the Mirador was only across the way from our appartments, several members of our party dined there on numerous occasions and were satisfied with their fare. However I didn't really rate it- only one veggie option, which was lasagna. Surprise, surprise!

The Apartments are clean, but basic. If any food is accidentally dropped the ants will appear. The are numerous cats that appear to be fed when you fancy sitting outside. There are bboklets on arrival telling guests not to feed the cats, but seeing the amount about, guests must ignore this. This is no good, if you are like me and dont like cats. One of the neighbouring bungalows had appeared to have broken into and the window was smashed and the window was ajar. I did report this to reception, but they didn't phone the police and just replaced the glass. There is no entertainment as such at this time of year. The food at the restaurant on the complex was not upto much and was not worth the money. These apartments are also at the top of a hill, which is fine walking down to the resort, but is also a pain when you have to return. The resort is about a 10-15 min walk.

Castiilo Beach is a large complex of apartments, and not very well sign posted within the camp, the pools were cold and a bit on the small side.

We arrived late due to flight delays, the staff greeted us, gave us two maps and sent us on our way in the dark and the lights around weren't on, we had a job finding our apartments, the No's on the doors didn't seem easy to follow with many pathways.

The cleaners were the fastest in town ! The apartment seemed ok for two. ON day three we watched as the police arrived, they ran round looking for a burglar, VERY WORRYING, we saw the police every day after that.

It was a quiet time in Fueteventura as we'd got there before the school holidays, but I bet it would be horribly busy if all the chalets were booked. Prefered to go to Jandia, seemed a nicer area.

After reading some mixed reviews regarding these apartments from previous holiday makers we were not quiete sure what to expect.

Fortunatley we found the Castillo Beach Apartments to be far better than we could have expected, The check in was fast and friendley and the rooms were very clean and tidy and contained all the equipment nessesary for a self catering holiday.

The location of the apartments are a 10 minute walk into Costa Caleta down the hill but taxis are only 2 Euro, so getting out and about is not to expensive.

The rooms are fairly large having a twin bedded room, Front Porch, Front room with a Sofa Bed and TV, the kitchenette was fully equipped with plenty of cubbard space and clean cutlary including a toaster, microwave, kettle & fridge etc.....

The rooms were cleaned most days and towels and bedding changed regular, The complex does have quite a few cats aroung and you do need to close doors behind you or you will soon have a new holiday pet!

I would certainley stay in these apartments again, and found there central location on the island a good base to vist either the north or south of the island by car taking approx 1 hour by car, and due to its close proximity to the airport its only a 10 minute drive.

We did not use the coplex`s entertainment so i cannot comment on it, we went into the resort centre every evening and found the restraunts to be very good and farly inexpensive, Faval Rock was excellent value and the steaks was cooked at your table on heated stones and tasted superb.

On the downside the Castillo Beach Apartments may not suite families with young children who prefer to be nearer to the resort centre due to its hillside location and to be fair this information was contained within the tour opererators complex discription.

We kept all food debre off the floor and thankfully we did not experience any problems with ants, as stated in previous reports.

All in all a very pleasant stay and would reccommend it.

When we arrived, check in took approximately 10 minutes. We found the reception staff to be efficient and friendly.

The apartment was very basic and the beds were too small for my oldest sons, who are over 6ft tall. Air conditioning was in desperate need as the bedrooms were very stuffy in the evening, but fans were available to rent from reception.

The maid came every day with clean sheets and towels, apart from Sunday.

Although the location was quite a distance to the beach, we discovered the little 'train' that came every 1/2 hr and would take us to the shops or the harbour. The driver was lovely and my little boy insisted on a train ride at least once a day!

We had a small problem with the ants, but when mentioned to the staff, a can of ant spray was put in our room within the hour.

The pools were clean and there was always plenty of sun beds, as there is a policy where towels may not be placed on sun beds in order to 'save' some.

We ate at the Mirador once. The staff were friendly
and the food was very nice. There was only 1 couple and 1 family that evening, so it was very quiet with no signs of entertainment, apart from a pool table (with broken cues) and a grab machine. The following couple of nights we heard some Elvis Abba etc, so I guess there was entertainment but not our kind of thing, so we didn't investigate further.

There was a cluster of pubs and restaurants between the apartments and the beach (5 mins walk), so we tended to go there in the evenings as the shops and restaurants at the beach were great but it was quite a hike back for the little one.

All in all, if you like a quiet, relaxing holiday on a budget, this is a good place to go. I would definitely go back with my youngest son (he didn't want to leave) but it lacked excitement for my older boys.

Castillo Beach bungalows: Cleanliness = disgusting everything smells, towels and bed linen changed on 3rd day never again, no bed linen for child's bed for 3 days, squashed insect all over the walls. Floors never cleaned at all in 7 days, did not chance eating in hotel.

Hotel staff never communicated amongst themselves, unfriendly and ignorant knowingly so to avoid confrontation.

Hotel location = downhill leaving uphill coming back.

Definitely would not come here again. High police presence what does that tell you, everybody we spoke to were disgusted at the three star rating when it should be a (U) Ungraded.

Accommodation is basic, but has everything as stated in the brochure.

On arrival we did notice that the bathroom was very smelly, but we found out that this is the same in all rooms - presumably down to poor plumbing? Hint - If you leave your plugs in when you go out, the rooms do not smell upon your return.

There were no ants when we were there. Check in only took about 5 - 10 minutes and the staff were very polite. Maid services was erratic the first couple of days, but then daily and towels were changed regularly. We had a couple of lights not working when we arrived, but after we reported this to Reception, a Maintenance Man was straight around to rectify any problems.

We ate at the Mirador Restaurant on site one evening. It was fine, but not really our thing. Very British food, so we ate out after that.

We were in the Sol complex and the location was good. It was at the top of a hill but it's a pleasant walk down to the town and harbour. There are shops, bars and restaurants half way down the hill too. A taxi back from the Harbour at the end of the evening was less than 3 Euro.

Entertainment was disappointing. All we wanted was for the kids to go to the kids disco, but some evenings it was not on as there were "not enough children" - this did make me feel that my 2 children were not important enough to warrant the Rep making an effort. I believe there was also Bingo etc, but I stayed away.

I personally would not to go Fuerteventura again because I feel that I have seen all there is to see on the island, however I have nothing against the hotel.

On arrival we had to wait a full hour to get served just so we could check in. Things didn't really improve from there.

We went to our room and our 1st impresson was that it stunk. Our 2nd impression was that the furniture was very old and grubby. It was after 11pm so we just went to bed but then realised that the sheets had not been changed from the previous occupants.

We were part of a group of 15 friends & family including 3 children and occupied 4 rooms in total.

Generally around the complex, cleanliness was well below standard. the pools and pool areas were never cleaned as far as we could tell.

The rooms were smelly, grubby and worn out. The fridges did not work properly. Baths were rusty and 2 of them had holes in the bottom. the beds were extremely uncomfortable.

We only ate in the hotel (at the Mirador Club House) once. The food itself was fine but the un-helpful attitude of our waitress ensured that we never ate there again.

The hotel is located about 20 minutes walk from the town centre but it is down hill all the way, which means the walk home at the end of the evening is difficult if you have young children. You can catch a taxi though for about £2.

I think the hotel staff here are especially trained to be un-helpful. In the worst case, One of our party took one of those new travellers cheque cards but it didn't work when we got there so he was stuck with no money. The hotel reception would not let him use a telephone to call a free phone number to sort out the problem.
Also they would not cash travellers cheques after 6:30pm weekdays or at weekends. During the times they were prepared to cash travellers cheques, they often had no money or no change so still turned you away.

On about 5 seperate occasions, I witnessed hotel staff arguing among themselves openly around the complex and in reception.

Entertainment was poor, it started late and was not on for very long. there was very little for the children.

In summary, this is the worst holiday accomodation I have ever stayed in and I would never go back.

This holiday was not as expected.

The cleanliness of the whole complex was very poor, the pool and surrounding area were not cleaned during our stay.

The apartment was very basic and crawling with ants even in the cupboards. There were only two rings for cooking and the
fridge would not keep food fresh.

Hotel staff, reception staff were not very helpful and very slow. Checking in and out took at least 45 minutes each, with the reception area being stinking.
The reception staff did not do anything about complaints and the rep was nowhere to be found, except on the welcome meeting where he only wanted to sell trips and phonecards.

There are two pool bars advertised in the brochure, but only one was open, there was no snacks and only a minimum choice of drinks.

Entertainment was very basic. If you wanted to go elsewhere this was a 25 minute walk, but there was much better choice and entertainment there.

The holiday was a disappointment due to the standard and location of the apartments being falsely advertised.

I would not recommend this complex to anyone and if you have already booked, change or cancel it.

We have just returned from a fortnight of hell. The hotel cleanliness is terrible, beds uncomfortable, lots of ants.

The pools were never cleaned in the 2 weeks we were there.

The food at the Mirador is edible, but went once and never again.

The entertainment was ok.

We waited for an hour and a half to be checked in. The reception staff are very unhelpful, ignorant slow and just dont care. The best thing to do would be not to get off the plane.

From start to finish, this holiday was a nightmare. Hotel is filthy; reception staff and management don’t want to know. It was rare to spend less that 20 mins queuing at reception. The reception never had enough cash for traveller’s cheques, and only cash them on weekdays we then had to travel to the next complex down to get access to cash.

The bars and restaurants belonging to the complex are appalling, the entertainment is rubbish and there is nothing for the kids to do after the pathetic 30 mins disco other than bingo. The staffs keep your change and rob children of free meals. The pools are dirty; the complex is a good 20 min walk from town if not more.

The rooms have no air conditioning and you have to hire at least 2 fans to cool a 1 bed apartment. Everyone that we spoke to there had a terrible time and just wanted to go home. There were ants in our apartment, the towels were hardly ever changed, the maids often argued between themselves in our room.

When we were out for the day a member of staff had been smoking in our room. The fridges and freezers didn’t work properly and our toilet leaked all through the apartment. We had sewage coming up through the plug in the bath too, but that didn’t matter too much as it drained away again through the big whole that was also in the bath.

The whole complex is surrounded by sharp black stones and once in the apartment there is nowhere for children to play without the risk of them hurting themselves on sharp bush roots that have had the tops cut off and left as sharp skewers protruding from the ground.

The beds are very uncomfortable and 2 single beds of different heights have to be pushed together to make a double bed. The cots for children are filthy and have never been cleaned. We have never been to such a disgusting hovel before and I hope that I save some other people the unfortunate experience of having to stay in this run down dump and enduring the sham of a holiday that we had to.

We are taking the matter up with the tour operator regarding compensation. Do yourself a favour and go to Alcudia instead.

My husband and I booked two weeks here.
We have been a few times before, but stayed in different bungalows nearby, which have everything you need. So as usual I didn't bother taking my hairdryer or iron.

Couldn't believe when we got there and found that, although the one bedroom bungalow was clean, it had the very basic things in.
Luckily we have friends over there, I was able to borrow a hairdryer but we had to hire an iron and board.
We bought a portable radio. You had to hire everything! We were really shocked.

We had a real problem with ants, we were given a spray. Must admit we are used to the ants a bit, still don't like them.

We didn't go to either pool area, not too impressed.

Went to Mirador just for meeting. Booked couple of trips. But we have truly learned our lesson this time.

We didn't bother going to any entertainment.

Any problem you had it took ages to speak to someone at reception. So we just made do most of time.

We have booked again for next year but done it independantly, so going to other bungalows.

We definitely would not go back to Castillo Beach.

We stayed at Castillo Beach Apartments and it really was the worst accommodation I have ever been in. On arrival, our room stank of sewage, but we gave it the benefit of the doubt, thinking that perhaps it was just a stale smell, maybe the room had not been used for a while.

We slept in the apartment that night and all awoke feeling poorly the next day, due to the constant smell. We reported it to reception who said they would fix it, six hours later...nothing.

We asked for a change of room and the staff obliged, goodness knows what would have happened if it was high season! The apartment complex itself, and its neighbouring complex's are very shabby, not at all in keeping with the surrounding area, it just looks like a grotty, dingy Butlins with sun. Although it was a good long walk to the town, we could not wait to escape every night.

Never ever ever want to return to Fueraventura. Horrible. What a waste of money! Do your self a favour, pay a bit more and go to Majorca!

Well where do we start. The accomodation was very poor, rusty bath and beds, electrical mains exposed, ants everywhere, broken tiles, very poor quality furniture and more !!!

The swimming pool was not cleaned in the two weeks we were there and also the amount of areas in and around the swimming pool where kids could have had an accident was exsessive.

The Holiday representative was non exsisting and when you did see him it was all lies to buy his trips. Reception at this complex did not want to know if you had any problems.

Entertainment (what entertainment) very poor with not even third rate singers, and the kids mini disco lasted for 15 mins only.

Do not eat at the Mirador centre as you will wait 1 hour for food and when it does come you wont eat much of it.

We will be contacting the Travel agents, tour operator and accomodation to complain and we will also be asking for a refund!!!

This was our honeymoon even though we took 4 kids with us, and wanted everything to be perfect but it wasn't.

The maid did come everyday except a wednesday and a sunday their day's off. We had lots of ants in the apartment and all reception did was give us some bug spray, and let us do it ourselves.

Bath had rust spots, furniture very old looking and kitchen facilities very very basic even though self catering. Two hobs, a kettle, a toaster, a fridge with a tiny freezer compartment.

You must get fans which you have to hire from reception, we had to get 3 for a 2 bed bungalow, as there is no air conditioning and in the evenings these rooms are like furnaces.

Only good thing about these bungalows are that they have lots of storage.

The Mirador on site served excellent meals but we only went there twice.

Each day they have a kids mini disco followed by bingo then usually an entertainer, this was OK if you like that sort of thing.

Cleanliness:
Wherever you stay, the least you should expect is cleanliness. This place is crawling with ants. I had read a few reviews of this place before booking and no one mentioned the ants.

We know we were not alone in having an ant problem because everyone else around the pool said they had a similar problem. Also, the reception staff readily handed out ant repellant to anyone who complained, so they knew there was a problem.

We stayed for a week and the pool was never cleaned once.
No double beds. No TV or radio in the room.

Kitchen cupboards had a really bad smell. We had to rinse everything just prior to use because the plates, cups and glasses were stinking.

Hotel Food:
Didn't use this much, but when we did we were very satisfied with what we got. No problem here.

Hotel Location:
About a 15 minute walk to town centre/harbour. About 25 minute walk to Atlantico Centre. This is worth the walk/taxi fare to do your food shopping at Spar. You'll save loads by shopping here rather than any other local shop eg Netto.

Hotel Staff:
Friendly enough.

Entertainment:
Depends what you are wanting. We made our own entertainment, but if you like bingo, your kids like a mini disco - you can have this every night. Sky Sports also on big screen if that's your thing.

Would We Visit Again?:
Certainly not the Castillo Beach Bungalows.
This is the 4th year in a row that we have been to the Canaries in December and this is the worst accomodation we've had.

This review may sound like we had a really bad holiday, which isn't true - a holiday is what you make it. However, I'd just like others to know how filthy this accomodation is.

The pools on the complex and there are quite a few are all salt water and freezing (they are warmer at 2 am in the morning !!!!).

The Miriador restaurant and bar is brilliant. Food first class the portions are massive and Fin and Yass are an asset to the place.

I’ve kept the best till last, the entertainment is fantastic Anne Marie has the kids eating out of her hands, how she can mind all those dances I’ll never know, Anne Marie made our holiday, so cheers Anne Marie xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We stayed in these Bungalows From 21 June - 6 July 2005 & had a ball. The bungalows are very clean (cleaned 6 times a week) and have the essential items for cooking. We had no problems with ants.

The pool area was cleaned every day & no shortage of sunbeds. We stayed in the Park complex but there is around 4 other large swimming pools in the other complexes.

The food in the Mirador is excellent, Fin & Yaz are very friendly & all the bar staff.

The entertainment in the apartments is fantastic, Anne-Marie made our holiday so much more enjoyable. Greedy Grant & Loopy Laura were also good as well, but not as good as Anne Marie, our kids loved the Mini-disco & have a CD to remember!!!!

Met so many nice people from Northern Ireland, Scotland & England.

Hope to visit again!

This holiday represented good value for money.

The comlex is clean, in pleasant surroundings, and the staff were friendly. Our 2 bed bungalow was well up to the standard of similar places we've stayed at in the Med. The pools were clean but a bit chilly, but you soon got used to it.

When we went it was only about a quarter full and therefore very quiet, which suited us. The only bar open was the main Mirador one. This is basic but okay if you like simple English food and bingo/kareoke/pub singer type entertainment.

We preferred to try the restaurants down in Caleta which offered better choice and ambience for not much more money. This was a 15/20 minute walk away which wasn't a problem. Being up the hill meant you were further away from the main road (some complexes back onto it).

There's a commercial centre about 5 minutes away but this lacked character and mainly offered English pub/grub etc which wasn't what we were after.

All in all, this was a good choice.

Radio & Tv with Sky movies so can't complain. Pool -as expected- was very cold this time of year but you soon 'climatise' to it. Hotel staff very friendly and mostly very good english speakers. I preferred location being about 15min walk away from main shops etc as it meant resort was quieter.

Evening entertainment could have been better (again maybe wrong time of season) but overall we had a great relaxing weekend.

The apartments were very basic but that wasnt a problem as we were out every day either around the pool or out in our hire car sight seeing.

The rooms were cleaned nearly every day and the towels changed regulary, all the staff in the resort were very friendly, and the entertainment was above average. (We mainly went to the mirador restaurant/club house)especially for kids.

The weather was excellent and we would definatly go back again. The only down side is the cats that roam around, but as long as you keep your windows shut & dont feed them you'll be ok.

Accommodation was small but clean, amenities were fine, pool very cold though.

We used mainly the Pool bar/The Den and the Mirador. Alan and Lin at The Den were great as were all staff at the Mirador.

Entertainment was adequate for what we wanted. Clare and Alex were popular with the kids and adults alike.

Only gripe, The reception staff in the mornings, very poor. I had an urgent message sent from home, which I didn't receive, cost me a packet...

Will probably go back soon, hopefully the weather and reception staff is better.

Today just got back from the resort 29/12/03.

This hotel I found was not as clean as I thought.

There may not be a lot to see but this hotel offers trips to do something if you don't not want to sit in a bar and play pool. The only thing that got me was how cold the pool was it was like swimming in the artic water, but yet it was only a 5 minute walk to a decent restaurant or a 15 minute walk to town.

Your main pubs are the Mirador, The Den which is a friendly place to sit and have a drink Al and Lin will make you feel welcome. Then there is the Club house the only two which I got to know were Chel & Jan they tend to have a laugh and are great people but I don’t think much to the Reception staff.

I wish to go again but only to see some people I met there.

Thought that the apartments were very clean and tidy. All the staff was friendly and helpful.

It's not a good location as it is high up but there is enough entertainment in the bar. The food in the miador is lovely we ate there for are breakfast and dinner would go back again in the near future.

Had mixed feelings about these apartments due to varied reports from others on this site. However, when we got there it was just as it was when we visited 3 years ago.

The bungalow was very clean but basic. It had two full bathrooms with showers and the second bedroom was very spacious. We had a poolside apartment so very handy for us to go back and fourth throughout day.

The entertainment on a night for children was very good and most of the caberet acts were good. Everywhere on the complexe was clean and very friendly staff.

Although it was 20 minutes walk into the main centre it was a nice walk. Plenty of places to eat. Weather was good and we will be visiting again.

We returned to Castillo Beach after a break of 5 years. I had read some of the reviews after booking and wondered if we had made a mistake. No! Maybe there were problems in the high season but in October it was as great as I remembered. Sure the accommodation is basic but read your brochures folks.

The staff are lovely, the bungalow and public areas were always clean and tidy and the location suits us.

Can't really comment on the entertainment as we were always out and about in Caleta.

I hope we are back in less than 5 years.

We went for two weeks self catering and had no problems finding places to eat. The room was cleaned 5 times a week and was acceptable. The complex is out of the way though for night life.

Staff are brilliant at the Mirador. My son fell in love with Claire the childrens enterainer.

We found the ranch to be the best place to eat.

Ants are a pain but can't be helped with the hot weather.
We said we would go again but in another 5 years when it is more developed.

We had a really nice time and apart from the ants and the lack of places to go we had a wicked time.

My God where to start. Quite the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in. I have written an 11 page letter of complaint which says it all really.

I had a quarry and slag heap outside the bedroom window with Juggernauts passing every 10 minutes only 5 meters from the window 8am - 8pm incredible. Also on the flight path; jets passing every 10 minutes at 1000 feet - nice.

Disgusting distgusting don't even consider this or Direct Holidays. I have sent the video of the lorries and accommodation to Holidays from Hell which speaks volumes.

We booked this as a last minute deal and I guess you only get whay you pay for! Apartments although clean were stuffy with no windows which could be opened when out during the day. Therefore when you returned puggled to your room to cool down from the sun it was like walking into a furnace! I couldn't believe you had to pay for fans. First time I've been to an apartment with no TV or radio provided. Beds were hard.
Pools looked good but there was a lack of shade around them and some of the sunbeds were broken and dirty. Mostly from melted ice cream lollys!

If you don't want to be around lots of noisy kids don't come here. The complex reminded me of holiday camps back home with sun.

The apartment was dirty, there were squashed insects on the shower wall when we got there and they were still there when we left. The beds were dirty, smelly and stained. The bed legs were rusted pieces of iron. One plug was supplied for the kitchen sink, bathroom basin and bath. The hot water was on a first come first served basis. The pool provided no sun shade at all but you could hire a parasol. The pool area and beds were never cleaned. The toilets at the pool were disgusting. This was the worst apartments I have ever stayed in. Self catering?? two tiny rings that took 1 hour to boil three eggs.
Unless you have a car, this apartment is right on the outskirts of Caletta.

Hotel is o.k. but it is well out of the way. There were cats everywhere looking for food and causing a nuisance.

The entertainment was very poor and the entertainers must have been dragged in from the street.

The pool area was fair but hotel staff were a bit slow in keeping the pool area clean and also very reluctant in giving out toilet roll to the point where we had to go and buy our own costing 2 pound a roll.

The location of the hotel was surrounded by ongoing building work which is all over the resort in general. Overall it was a very dissapointing holiday and i will not be going to that part of the island again as i heard that other parts of the island were excellent with prices a lot more reasonable.

The apartments are clean and tidy but basic. When we were there it seemed that the rooms were being modernised (or painted) so there were a couple of minor grumbles but nothing to spoil our stay.

The pool was cold (as they all are). Although we were 'self-catering' we did eat at the complex but this was expensive compared to other places.

The pool was very nice but did become crowded, on someone elses advise we crossed the road outside the complex to another pool which was virtually empty - bliss.

In general the entertainment was most enjoyable but basic. On the down side, if you don't like walking then this isn't the place for you as the complex is about as far out of the 'town' as you can get - approx a 20 min walk, however, there is a mini train which runs every 20 mins or so, this costs 1 euro each way.

Overall we would visit there again as we really have nothing to complain about 9apart from the walk to town). One good point about calet de fuste - there's no time-share touts!! - we didn't see a single one during our 2 week stay.
