Before our holiday I had read a review here saying that the writer had been given a back room which smelled musty - we had it!
The room was very clean but very basic. The TV only showed Italian language programmes and cupboard space was poor. However, when I asked for another room It was granted without hesitation.
Our new room had plenty of cupboard space, was much bigger and had a lovely view of Vesuvius the other side of the bay of Naples - a nice sea view.

Surprisigly and dissapointingly, they would not allow our final bill to be paid by credit card! Having run up a bill drinks etc. I had to go to town for cash in order to settle up!

Staff were excellent, entertainment limited to one night but pleasant bar open every night.

The hotel is located on a very busy junction of two roads.

There is no pavement and the road has several sharp bends.

I consider this is very dangerous to walk down. Even getting on and off the buses is very hazardous.

We had back room which was very small and sparsely furnished. It also had a musty smell when we arrived and had obviously not been used or aired.

The food at first was very sparse. The choice at breaklfast very limited.

The whole of the hotel is in need of refurbishment.
The staff were friendly.

I would not return again solely on the very danderous location.

Stayed at the Metropole for a fortnight and had a great time. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are decorated in a simple Italian style but were very clean and comfortable and were cleaned daily with clean towels provided daily. Food was very good with a choice of three starters and main course although you do have to select your evening meal at breakfast which is the usual continental style. On a Saturday night there is a Gala night with a very good buffet style meal. There is a very nice pool area with three terraces, sun beds are provided free which we were pleased about as we met some people who were paying 5 euros a day at their hotel. The Metropole Hotel is situated on a busy cross road which gives entertainment if you have a room with a sea facing balcony! It can be a little noisy if you leave your french doors open, we did this on the first night but kept them shut afterwards and didn't hear any traffic noise There is a fifteen minute walk into Sorrento, five minutes of which are along a busy main road with no pavement so would be difficult with children although there is a regular bus service. We actually found this walk no problem and there are wonderful views of the Bay of Naples after about five minutes with an area to sit if you want a rest. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you don't mind not being right in the centre of Sorrento.
