| said: The Hotel was in my opinion cleaned to a high standard throughouy our stay. Bed linen and towels were changed daily and room generally tidied. Hotel grounds were kept litter free and reception/bar areas always being cleaned.
Breakfast was the usual continental style or fried breakfast. The sausage and bacon was not very nice, but you could get by with Eggs, Beans and Toast.
Evening meals were much better with a wide selection every night.
Hotel staff were friendly and helpful and good with the children.
The Hotel entertainment was varied with something for everyone. Kid's disco would run from 8:30 till 9 and the shows would generally start at 9:30. There was an area for the kids to draw or colour at the side of the stage if they weren't interested in watching the show. The shows were some of the best we have seen and were not performed by the hotel reps as in some hotels.
The one down side was the massive mark the hotel made on drinks/ice-creams/bottled water.
Large beer 3.1 Euro's in the hotel, this could be purchased for 1.5 in most bars in the area and a can could be purchased from the supermarket across the road for 80 cents.
Ice-creams were the same, however if people didn't buy them from the hotel they would have to drop the price.
If your room is on the front of the hotel it can get a little noisy with the traffic at night time passing by, but after a few days your used to it.

| said: This feels a bit like being unfaithful to an old and trusted friend. However, I believe in telling it as it is, so here goes.
We have stayed in this hotel at least five times and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. But, we feel that standards have started to slip recently.
The cleanliness of the hotel although adequate, failed to meet the high standards of past visits.
The food has always been superb, but again we feel that the variety and quality is down. (although I might add, its still streets ahead of some hotels).
The staff have always been friendly and approachable, again one or two appeared offish.
Hotel entertainment has never been our cup of tea so it would be unfair to give an opinion.
In summary, this is still a good hotel and I feel a bit uncomfortable giving it a less than sparkling review but I feel that it could do with a good kick up the backside to earn back its reputation.
Also, I would like to add that there is no way that this hotel deserves its 4* status as it is way past its sell by date and in desperate need of a major refurbishment.

Post subject: Returned from this hotel.
Hi we returned last Tuesday from Torviscas Playa, nice hotel in great location rooms where nice and clean maids where very friendly as were hotel staff.
The dining room was hectic and lots of people hovering over your shoulder as you where choosing your food got a bit repetitive by the second week as were the breakfasts, the food was nice always very hot.
The hotel is looking tired as the furniture in reception could do with replacing.
The hotel entertainment in the day worked hard but we never stayed in to watch the shows at night.
we would prefer apartments now as that is what we normally do but we had a change as it was my 50th birthday.
Hotels are to hectic and noisy for us in a morning
swimming pool very nice also very cold only went in a couple of times have to put your towels on early if you want a bed.
Good hotel but would rate it a 3 star and not a 4 star
oh and there is a free fridge in room and hair dryer in bathroom and loads of coat hangers in wardrobe.

| said: this is the third time we have stayed in this hotel and it just gets better and better.we have met people staying at the same time for the last three years and have already booked for next year.
the hotel is clean you can see the cleaners constantly throughout the day .the rooms are a bit dated but they have a refurbishment plan where they are constantly updating the decor of the rooms.
the food is good the people say that breakfast is repetative but when there is everything it is bound to be.
the location is right on the beach with a small walkway at the side of the hotel ging right down to the front.it is in a quieter area than las americas but it is an up and coming area with most of the hotels around of 4 or 5 star quality.
the hotel staff are excellent and there were a few that we have seen for the last 3 years and they still remmber you.the entertainment is mostly fom outside but the team do the odd couple of shows per week.there is archery darts shuffleboard etc throughout the day if you want it.but this hotel is very child friendly and is excellent for families.

| said: I have just returned from one of our best holidays to date. The hotel was very clean with towels and bed linen changed daily. Although carpets in the corrider were a bit worn this is because people trapse up and down them in wet sandy feet so not a problem really - and the hotel did give them a deep clean whilst we were there. The food was great - something differnet every day - so many things to try from soup to paella to roasted pork spanish style to pasta to so many diffent salads -the list goes on. Even though i didn't try them you could have chips and pizza everyday as well if you wanted! The hotel satff were very polite and helpful and by the end of our stay the waiter was bringing us our drinks before we even prdered them! the entertainment was also well done - everything including waterpolo, aqua gym, archery, shooting, darts, bingo and more - it was upto us how much we joined in and enjoyed ourselves. The evening entertainment team worked hard at the 4 shows we saw although the stage was blocked by large pillars in same of the room which was a littel bit of a problem but hey its a free show so again no worries.

| said: We booked our holiday through Thomas Cook and flew with Thomas Cook Airlines. We chose this hotel because we had seen some good reviews (and may I add) the odd not so good review. It's only about 10 mins from the airport so that is a plus. On approach to the Hotel all looks very good. The reception lounge is is huge and has a wow! factor to it But beware! although this hotel has been recently refurbished it's not up to the 4 star rating that it has been given. I have stayed in much nicer 4 star hotels. The rooms are adequate, not very spacious if their are 2 adults and on child. Make sure you ask for a room with a sea view or you will be facing a busy road.
The rooms were kept very clean But remember they are looking a bit tired. The hotel must be at least 20 years old and is showing it a bit even with the recent refurbishment. Corridors are a bit worn. There are also many very big open spaces that may have been used some time ago but have nothing going on in them, even in this high season period. All the entertainment is carried out by German reps, no proplem, but it does make it harder for the British Holiday maker.
Meals are OK! I say OK because I would expect much more from a 4 star hotel. Breakfast was the same every day for 14 days! This does take it's toll because there was never a british piece of bacon or sausage. Only half board is available so the evening meals were OK again BUT very repetative. Kids only had choice of pizza most days with chips. There were many dishes on offer for adults BUT don't expect too much.
The swimming pools were great!!! a bit cold even in the height of season but they were great. Don't believe what people say about sun beds!! the hotel say's that you can't reserve them BUT when they open the pool area at 7-30am there was a que of 50+ people waiting to reserve there beds for the day. We don't normally reserve beds BUT we found that you have to if you want to use the pool loungers.

It was good but everything lacked behind the other just a little. For example, there was not quite as much choice with the food, the rooms were a little smaller, although I have to say that the cleanliness was just as good. The only reason I would not stay at this hotel again is because I dont think I would rush back to the resort.

| said: The Iberostar Torviscas Playa hotel is the best hotel that we have stayed in for a long time.We had a very warm welcome from reception when we were checking in,we received a much needed juice drink free of charge, excellent! All staff are friendly and work very hard, especially the waiting staff and entertainments team.most speak some english aswell as other languages.
Our room was big enough for the two of us,very clean and well decorated, with enough clothes space a nice tv and a mini bar on request, plus a great view from the balcony. There were freebies in the bathroom, soaps, comb, shower gel and shower caps.Bathroom was a good size with a shower/bath,bidet and toilet.Towels are changed when you want, you just leave them in the bath if you want them changed.
The food was lovely a good selection each night which catered for the different nationalities, labelling was poor but that is not a negative for me.Plenty of desserts too.Breakfast was good with again different selections, also fruit juice and tea and coffee are supplied, but not at evening meal.Men must wear long trousers in the evening and they are quite strict about this.On a tuesday and friday it is canarian and spanish food speciality aswell as other selections. My only downside is that the food was repeatative so on the second week i didnt quite enjoy it as much as the first week.
The entertainment during the day was good and night time entertainment was enjoyable, the bar is a nice relaxing area, with waiting service, drinks vary in price,2 euro for a soft drink,2.90 for a beer, cocktails are nice and cheap too!
The overall cleanliness of the hotel is excellent,i didnt find a problem in this area at all and i am fussy! sheets were changed every 3/4 days, plenty enough for us during our 2 weeks.`There are a few stains on the cream carpets on the landings but they do wash them regular and they did some when we were there. Its just wear and tear!
The pools in the hotel are well maintained and spacious, there are loads of sunbeds, plenty for the amount of guests.
Outside the hotel there are shops over the road and a couple of bars, around the corner is plaza del duque shopping mall and ten minutes walk up a slight hill is san eugenio shopping centre, plenty of bars along the way too.Five mins out of the back of the hotel is a black sandy beach and further on there is playa pinta beach which is golden sand surrounded with bars shops and restaurants, and the harbour overlooks this, its stunning! The hotel location is excellent,we walked to the far end of las americas and it took half an hour,so its about an hour to los cristianos from the hotel, there is a white train which is 9 euro per person i dont know if this is one way,it takes you to different places. There is a taxi rank up the road too.For me the location was spot on!We enjoyed this hotel so much that we have already booked for next year and we have only been home 4 days!

The rooms were a good size if a little lacking in plug sockets(hairdryers, straighteners & cd player and 1 plug socket!!!!), the receptoin areas were spacious and clean and the pool was a good size with us never having a problem getting sunloungers.
The food was fantastic my only slight gripe is in regard to the labelling as not all the food on offer was labelled so you had to guess not the worst complaint in the world i know but as a very fussy eater i would prefer to know what i am eating.
We had a wonderful time the hotel is in a fab position not too far away from everything but far enough for no noise issues.
We would definately go back hopefully with a normal contingent of about 4-6 of us as we felt it was a fab place for a girls holiday.

The hotel and rooms were always fantastically clean. Towels were changed each day. Very little drawer space was available in the room but a large wardrobe was useful.

The staff throughout the hotel were helpful. Animation team, especially Moza, was excellent.
The entertainment at night could have been better but they are catering for all nationalities.
Room had a safe (small charge) and a small fridge. Good sized balcony although we overlooked the street, but had a sea view.
The only complaint was the room towels. They were well worn and rough. 3 times we had them changed as they were so bad.

The food in the hotel was fantastic, even a fussy vegetarian in the family managed to be full every morning and evening. Waiting staff were fantastic especially our favourite Miguel.
Everything from the rooms to the pools were spotless who could complain? And there was always plenty of sunbeds.
The animation team were brilliant and seemed to always have a smile on their faces, the entertainment from them and outside acts was fantastic.
There was a lot of older people in this hotel but this may have been because it was the winter season.
Would definitely go back, we are already organising our next visit.

We were warned about the road works outside the hotel by Eclipse before we travelled and were slightly concerned but it did not affect our stay at all.
The hotel is very clean and our room at the back of the hotel had a nice view of the sea and the mountains. My wife is a vegetarian and they even have a 'vegetarian corner' now which is great for her.
One small fault was that there was only one plug socket in the bedroom but I would say they are not going to leave it that way and it was just because our room looked asthough it had been recently redecorated.
The entertainment in an evening isn't great but we went out every night anyway.

Nice pool area if your going with kids they will enjoy as when we were there they put large inflatable things in one of the pools maybe as it was in the school holidays.
Can't say about food as went room only but other guests seem to like it.
All in all a good hotel near to the beach would visit again.

| said: Just arrived back from 2 weeks at the Torviscas, and would happily go back to this hotel. Even though the hotel was slightly worn around the edges, it was kept spotlesly clean at all times. The rooms were not luxurios, but comfortable and clean, with good air conditioning. The staff would go out of their way to please and were polite and helpfull.
The food was very good, with lots of variety. Breakfast was excellent. Cant really go wrong with Iberostar. (No, I do not work for them!)
Garden and pool area is lovely, and there seem to be plenty of sunbeds, even in August. The pool area is huge and also spotless. Be aware of slippery tiles though, especially the tiled steps into the pool!
The entertainment team was excellent, they work their socks off from early morning to late night, and they were all fantastic with the children. The shows at night were really, really good. Rabiah, Floor,Sofie(heja Sverige)impressed us with their talents!!!
All in all a very well run hotel, we would definitely go back.

| said: We stayed on a Bed & breakfast rate, so i cannot comment too much on the food, although breakfast was great! Plenty of choice of fruit, pancakes, cooked, continental etc.
On arrival we were offered a drink by the receptionist to cool down whilst we checked in and throughout our stay all of the staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly.
When we booked we asked for a sea view room and we were not disappointed, the room had a fantastic view and was not overlooked by anyone, it was very clean, spacious and bright and they cleaned the room daily. It is a nonsmoking hotel in the indoor public areas which is great (for non smokers). The entertainment both day and night was extensive, fun and something for everyone. There seems to be a great kids club. The Pool is very large so even when it is busy you are not bumping into everyone in the pool, although trying to get a sunbed first thing was difficult (as you would expect) but after lunch it cleared quite quickly and was much easier to get one.
If your flight back is after you have checked out they do offer a service where they let you have a room for 1/2 hour to shower/change/sort yourself out free of charge. We used this service and it was useful.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone!

| said: After returning from a week at this hotel the word to describe it is fantastic!! On arrival we were made very welcome by the staff on reception and as the week progressed we found every member of staff to be more than helpful.
There was a vast selection of food both at breakfast and dinner and you were welcome to eat as much as you liked. We loved the hot pancakes at breakfast time delicious with chocolate sauce. Dinner was a treat with choices of Fish, pasta, pizza, a roast, chops, burgers, paella, various cold meats and loads of salad stuff, salad dressings, fresh fruit and a choice of cakes and desserts. Some of the food was cooked freshly in front of the cutomers......the only negative point is I am now about 7lbs heavier.
We stayed in room No.550 which had a great view but the positioning of the balcony next door meant our balcony was always in the shade, nice if you want to stay cool (but we love the sun). There was a fridge in the room which was great for keeping cool the water and wine. The room was kept immaculately clean and we were never bothered by cleaners knocking on the door early. The bathroom was spacious and the shower had perfect temperature control.
Entertainment included, The Bee Gees, Grease and Saturday night fever etc but we went out every night after dinner so can't comment.
The position of the hotel is described as at the beach but it sits rather high up so not for people with walking difficulties unless they intend to remain in the hotel area which is fine with lifts to all floors.
I would definately recommend this hotel.

Rooms cleaned daily
Food plentiful and varied. If you do not find something to suit then you would be better off self catering.
Down side is that you have to purchase drinks with your evening meal, even water.
Hotel not really suitable for those with walking difficulties as lots of steps and hills to get to beach and shops, although they are worth it.
There are currently a lot of road works in the area but once all are finished area will be even better.
Would I visit this area and hotel again? Definitely

Pool area has lots of sunbeds but a bit short of umbrellas on busy days. Although there are notices about booking beds it isn't enforced and so guests put towels on beds, some well before 8 o'clock.
We found the food generally excellent with plenty of choice. Location is good, lots of bars and shops nearby and easy walk down to the beach. All staff very polite, friendly and helpful.
We went to the entertainment on about 6 different nights. Some of it was excellent, superb Abba tribute band on one night, rest of it very good.
Good variety of animation during the day if you want to join in but no pressure to do so. Wide range of ages staying here but probably suits 50+ best.
We also found bedrooms on the front noisy and transferred to rear view without a problem. No drinks with dinner, not even water, unless you paid extra.

| said: The hotel looks very uninspiring from the outside but is very bright & welcoming once you enter.
It's a very busy hotel but is efficiently run by helpful friendly staff. Our room was 466 & unfortunately overlooked the very busy road at the front of the hotel. We asked to move to a sea view room & we were told we could view one the following day, although the receptionist pointed out that at this time of year the sea view rooms did not get any sunshine on them & were extremely cold. Nevertheless we had a look. The sea view room was furnished much the same as ours ( clean & bright but basic ) but was indeed very cold so we stayed put!
A roadside room would be too noisy I feel at the height of the season with the bars & discos in the area. There was no drawer space in the room which was a little inconvenient.
There wasn't a great deal of variety in the food I felt ( but I'm fussy on the food department)however my husband put 5lbs on in a week so it couldn't have been that bad!
The hotel was very clean & the rooms were kept to a very good standard. We only went to the entertainment a couple of nights but what we saw was good & it was packed every night. This hotel suits the 50+ age group best. The pool area did get congested & I'm afraid people were putting towels on sun beds as early as 8.30am .
I would return for a week but would probably not consider two.

The management have maintained high standars in all areas, and the food ,especially the meats were very good and even better than on our previous holidays.
The hotel staff in general are very helpful and work hard to help you enjoy your stay.
Entertainment at night was the worst we have seen at this hotel over the past three years, although the staff worked very hard, some-how due to movent of staff to other hotels etc they lacked the flair and fun element of the past team.
This is a nice hotel that gets repeat business every year some people are on their 24th year, that tells you something about the quality.

The standards of cleanliness were very high, the maid service is the best we have ever encountered. The choice of fresh food on offer in the dining room was very good with chefs show cooking at every meal time.
The hotel has a brilliant pool and lounging area and is also very close to the beach.
The reception has fully English speaking staff on hand 24 hours a day who are very polite and accommodating.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and plan on visiting again, this time with our children.

| said: My partner and I have just returned from 2 very excellent weeks at the Torviscas Playa. We have both been to Tenerife previously so we knew what to expect from the resort.
The hotel was fantastic, the staff were on hand for any problems and queries you had 24 hours a day. The rooms were large enough for 2 people, unless of course these people that moan about everything just sit in their rooms for 2 weeks!!!!!!
Meal times were very well prepared and organised! My partner and I are both vegetarians and we found something different every single day for the duration of our stay, so if thats not variety for you, i don't know what is! The food is fresh and the chefs cook most of the food in front of you so everything is hot and you know it hasn't been stood there for a couple of hours. I really don't know how people can find fault with anything to do with the food in this hotel, breakfasts were fresh and again, there was always plenty of variety!
Obviously, every hotel has a moaner and can find fault with the simplest of things but I would recommend this hotel to anyone! We are a young couple and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I think the hotel is mainly aimed at older couples, but nevertheless, we had a fantastic time.
The entertainment was another outstanding point to this hotel, the animation staff seemed to work 24 hours a day and were still always smiling and trying to involve all of the guests. There is various entertainment during the day to get involved in (bingo, water polo, ping pong, etc etc etc) and at night there is a different show every day. There was something to suit everybody and I would definitely recommend the Brazilian martial arts show, it is amazing!!!!!!
Anyway, I could go on and on and on about how wonderful this place is but you should check it out for yourself!!!

The hotel has changed a little from our visit 2 years ago only in slight decor to the rooms and the location of the entertainment.
The food here is very good although some breakfasts were not great, there was also not a great deal of choice for the evening meals that said the food was extremely good and cooked to a very high quality.
The hotel is clean although we noticed some rubbish not cleared for 3 days which was not good but, not a major downfall.
Overall this is an excellent hotel, on arrival our air conditioning was not working and someone was sent up within 5 minutes to fix it.

The food was excellent the menu was changed everyday and the hygiene standards were top class.
The pool area was cleaned every day and there were plenty of sunbeds to go around.
The reception staff were very helpful and had all sorts of tips for your holiday.
The rooms were cleaned and towels changed everyday you could also have your bedding changed everyday if you requested. We had a very bad rain storm on 1 day, most of the town was flooded and people couldn't get out of the hotel so they brought in the outdoor games and put on extra entertainment for the kids.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

The hotel offers superb food, allthough we did eat out on occassions as there are some great resteraunts near thotel & beach.

| said: This was our 4th visit to the Toviscas Playa and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Hotel had just been refurbished to a good standard and very comfortable.
Food good with a variety for everyone.
Entertainment not to our liking but suited lots of holiday makers.
Ages in our party ranged from 50 - 18 and everyone enjoyed theirselves.
Pool area was brilliant with sunbeds for all although some holiday makers insisted on getting out there before 7am to put their towels out which wasn't necessary.
Location good with bars and clubs a short distance away for the younger members of the party.
A great holiday had by all and 4 of us went back there in September 2005.
Would definately go back to Toviscas Playa again.
My only point to make is that although there is satalite TV in all rooms, it mostly caters for Germans and Spanish. Only sports and news channels in English, although did not spend much time in the room it would have been nice to watch an English programme whilst getting ready to go out in the evening.

Cleaners were brilliant they even made kissings swans out of your towels. Very large pool area and pool. Only had to get up at 8pm to put your towels out but would still get a bed at 11am.
Entertainment ok but only for an hour at night. We have a roadside room view found it to be abit noisy but not really the traffic it was the bar over the road.
Would recommend this hotel and will be going back very soon.

| said: Just returned from Torviscas Playa this weekend and would highly recommend it.
Food fantastic, wide choice of salads, fruits, cheese, desserts. Meat/fish cooked freshly as you watch every evening. Eggs cooked freshly for you every morning whether its omelletes, fried, boiled etc.
Staff very friendly and helpful and very professional. Evening entertainment could have been a little better but there was something on every night from 9.30 to 10.30pm, usually flamenco, parrot show, entertainment team putting on shows like grease or chicago etc. and then just music playing until about midnight.
We were on the 3rd floor facing the road. It could be a little noisy on that side from the road but nothing that really bothered us. The room was exceptional, newly furnished and carpeted. It seems that the whole of the hotel rooms are being re furnished as we saw many new pieces of furniture being delivered during our stay. The room also had a fridge and a hairdryer in the bathroom. Maid service daily and thorough, they even made swans out of the towels and left them on our beds with sweets (nice touch).
I am definately going back next summer.
Age range of our party was 73,67,43,43,17,14 & 11 and we all loved it. Even my eldest daughter will be coming back with her friend next August as she loved it so much.
The only down side for me was the prices for the trips which in my opinion were very expensive with our tour operator First Choice, especially when you have got 3 children. I think it was about 49 euros for an adult and 22 euros for a child to go on a boat trip to see whales and dolphins. Try Admiral travel just down the road to the right of the hotel entrance, they were charging 29 euros for adults and 16 for children for a 3 hour catamaran trip to see the whales and dolphins. We didn't go on it but it was certainly a lot cheaper.

| said: I went here with my sister in law in February 2005 for a week. A deal Nicky found on the internet at £308 for half board at a 4 star hotel it seemed exceptional value. I wanted to look at Tenerife with a view to buying a property and needed a good base.
The staff were superb, very professional, attentive and obliging.
Spoilt for choice on the food front I cannot understand anyone saying it was repetitive - yes Mondays will always be the same in rotation but it is different 7 days a week and the choice of food at each sitting endless. Fresh pancakes cooked for breakfast or ask the chef to cook you a while you wait omelettes - steak night - have two or three sirloins and just salad if you want. Dates and figs to go with your cheese and a handful of hazelnuts. The food was superb.
Room was a bit "tired" but spotlessly clean.
Entertainment - well, there was a professional cabaret most evenings that were very good but that was after a couple of hours of ballroom dancing. A bit boring for those among us who would have preferred a disco or something for a change - good laugh though watching the competitiveness!
Only 5 euros in a cab to Los Cristianos so skipped the hotel dinner a couple of times and ate out for a change.
Hotel bar prices very high though and I thought a tad greedy.
Location was excellent only minutes from the beach and a walkway with lots of bars and restaurants.

Playa de las Americas
Tenerife
In my opinion this is a large tired hotel in need of an additional refurbishment.
Room storage space for a 4* is extremely limited. Stained flat carpets, walls require repainting, bathroom cracked tiles.
Satellite t.v.? 25 channels to choose from - you think - in reality BBC World News/eurosport/cnn/sky news - which amounts to 21 dedicated to German/italian/french +. If you have children or you are not a frequenter of bars or the hotel entertainment, once you have seen the daily sport and news that's your lot.
Pool and surrounding area is very good. Plenty of sunbeds - dont't missthe spa pool in the centre of the heated pool as it is hidden by the rock feature.
Location is o.k. but it's all downhill and not directly on the front. Therefore up hill on return with lots of steps.
If you like markets, there is a big one twice weekly just outside the hotel.
Food is good but very repetetive however you may request the chef to cook eggs etc to your liking. There is also champagne for your bucks fizz for breakfast - not to be missed.
Entertainment - although staff try extremely hard to please, it is very limited. Entertainment from outside is hardly what I would call professional.

| said: We stayed here half board for the two weeks up to New Year. Asked in advance for a high floor on the side not facing the road. Got the second floor but on the requested side of the hotel. The second floor was being refurbished, and it was odd making our way initially to our room past all these empty rooms with doors open, in various stages of refurb. Our rooms - 262 and 263 had not ben refurbished and looked a bit tired, but were quite spacious, except in relation to storage which was poor, and the bathroom was fine - nicer condition than the room. Hairdryer was fitted while we were there. The storage problem is being addressed as we had a peak into some of the empty rooms which now have bedside drawers and other drawers. They also have new carpets - much needed. THe corridor carpets are suffering from the work being carried out - badly stained etc, but to be fair the staff were cleaning them very regularly and shampooing. Good sized balcony and lovely view.
Cleaning was excellent - regular sheet change and towels every day - usually left in the shape of swans or boats, and sometimes with little sweets left on them.
Food was ok, but have had better - notably in the Bouganville Playa which is part of the same group. Breakfasts were disappointing - more catered to German tastes, and eggs not very pleasant. Lots of fish and seafood at dinner and sometimes the salads looked very tired. Food not always as hot as it could have been, although I had no complaints about the Christmas dinner!
Location is pretty good - within easy reach of the beach and the harbour at Puerto Colon, and the sunbathing terraces/gardens are very spacious with plenty beds. Extra sunbathing areas away from the pool meant there was never really a problem with space. The smaller pool is heated in the winter and is quite pleasant. The large pool looks lovely but too cold to swim in at this time of year.
Hotel staff were excellent - nothing too much trouble and very polite and helpful at all times. The entertainment team work very hard day and evening, but the evening entertainment is not good enough to make you want to stay in the hotel. During the day they have lots of activities from Spanish lessons to Salsa Dancing and Bingo, and the team really do make an effort to chat to guests and remember your name.
Overall we were a little disappointed with some aspects - food and bedroom standard, and the fact that it was not quite as good as the Bouganville Playa, but we had a great holiday here and would recommend the hotel but if we visit again we would want a refurbished room, or perhaps one of the rooms on the top floor which have their own private pool, which would be lovely in the summer.

| said: Room:
The bedroom, which we were allocated, was on the first floor as I had previously requested. These rooms were supposed to be re-furbished, although they weren’t really scruffy, I would say that the refurbishment couldn’t have been much more than a lick of paint and maybe some fresh varnish on the furniture. The bathroom was definitely old or very badly done, when we arrived there wasn’t a hairdryer but they fitted one during our stay and were doing so to the other rooms on our floor.
The storage was very limited and even though there was just 2 of us had we been there any longer than a week we would have struggled for space. There was a section for hanging clothes and 2 draws, the room had next to useless bedside tables – not cabinets and another table at the end of the beds, the dressing table was just that, no draws or other storage, this space could have been used in a better way.
The maid service was quite poor our towels were changed daily but the bed not at all and the carpet wasn’t vacuumed either, the bits of wire and dust remained in the bathroom where the new hairdryer had been fitted.
Public areas:
These were obviously quite new and kept pristine, there was loads of seating in all different areas and was very comfortable.
Pool area:
Again very clean and comfortable, loads of sun-beds with plenty of space in and out of the sun, beautiful pools that were very cold.
Food:
The food was great if you were a fish lover, often 4 or 5 varieties. However if you didn’t like fish of any type then the choices were limited and the quality of the meat was extremely poor. The salads were beautiful and the desserts great. The Christmas dinner was another buffet, which was set times, which were a mistake as it was, like a cattle market. The breakfasts were ok but nothing like the choice or standard, which we have become accustomed to, the English section was a very small area tucked away in the corner, the rest of the restaurant was taken over with the continental choices.
Bars:
There were 3 bars and as I said before loads of places to sit, the bar prices were more expensive than the airport so it’s a good thing we went to PDLA to check the place out and not to sit in the hotel. For our usual round of drinks it cost just under 7 euros in the hotel (and the airport) and between 3.30 and 3.50 euros in the bars around town. There wasn’t any atmosphere in the hotel at all and the entertainment which we caught a glimpse of a few times has a bit of a cheek calling itself entertaining.
Location:
We enjoyed the location as you walked along the front and through the main street it was obviously cleaner and less busy up the Adeje end, particularly if you went out the back of the hotel and turned right and continued to walk towards Playa Del Duque. When we walked up through here it was the first time we saw paraqueets flying wild whilst we had been in Tenerife, it was lovely.
We went to several different bars and wouldn’t dismiss any of them, the prices seemed reasonable everywhere we went.
There were lots of Africans wanting to sell watches and sunglasses and the ladies wanting to braid hair, but no eye-contact and keep walking gets rid. Also lots of PR people trying to get you into bars or restaurants, same treatment works, pay no attention. When we were in the Irish Rose it seemed like a constant stream of them coming through, but the owners seem to be of the opinion that they are just trying to make a living to feed their kids.
Weather:
We had cracking weather whilst we were there and it was a relief after being in Lanzarote last year and the weather was pretty awful. Most days had patchy cloud but the majority of all days were beautiful sunshine, sometimes blazing.
Would we go again?
We would definitely go to Tenerife again for Winter Sun, maybe next time we would stay near to the ‘Patch’, which seemed quite a nice area. But we were disappointed with the hotel having been to the Ledra Iberostar in the Summer, this was a poor show in comparison, so not back to the Torviscus for us.

Beware! The rooms on one side of the hotel overlook a busy road.
The room was in need of refurbishment, particularly the bathroom.
The food was very good, with plenty of choice.
The location is suitable for people who like to walk along the promenade. The bottom gate of the hotel leads directly onto the prom.
The evening entertainment was very poor on most nights.
Most nights the resident team provided the entertainment and they soon emptied the place. Fortunately, the nearby hotels had better entertainment and good artists could be found in the bars and restaurants in the area around the nearby Porto Colon.
The hotel is very near the Torviscas market, which is held twice a week.
The large swimming pool was cold, but the chill had been taken off the smaller pool.
The bus stop is very near the hotel and there is a frequent service. The buses are very modern and comfortable

| said: This was our first visit to this hotel as we normally go to the Guyamina Princess, but thought time for a change as the standards we felt had dropped. We found that the general appearance of the Torviscas Playa hotel was very good, it was re-furbished 12 months ago but only up to the 3rd floor, we were given rooms on the 5th floor these we found to be in desperate need of updating.
We only had 2 small draws and 1 wardrobe in the room nowhere near enough for all your items especially with a toddler. The bathroom was small and again in need of updating attention to detail by the maids could be better.
Our room was on the front which we found to be quite noisy from traffic etc.
There is a small shop in the reception selling clothes, bags and chocolate and also hairdressers.
The food in the restaurant was very good with a variety of dishes to suit all tastes but the fried eggs at breakfast need more cooking as the white was very jellified and they cook to order steaks and meat/fish etc while you wait in the evening but due to people waiting they tend to rush and undercook leaving the middle raw. The service was excellent with no issues we never had to wait for a table at any time.
The staff were always helpful and nothing was too much trouble, due to us having an 18 month old baby (Lucy)we required a travel cot to take down to the pool each day so under a shade she was happy and safe to play inside which gave us peace of mind throughout the day they organized this for us.
The pool was large with 3 different sections and had a spa pool, there were plenty of beds and sun shades no need to get up at 6am! The poolside food was excellent albeit a little expensive we went out at lunch to the Wigan Pier and had great choice for £6 for both of us (cottage pie/chicken /chips all home cooked with drinks).
The hotel is situated on the main road which has a slight incline, there are supermarkets and bars across the road and it is only a 5 minute walk to the beach/promenade with some excellent bars/restaurants catering for all tastes and age groups.
The hotel entertainment was varied with well organized activities throughout the day and night to keep you amused they tried very hard to accommodate all ages and tases.
Yes I would certainly visit this hotel again but would book a lower re-furbished room and overlook the pool and not the main road.

Everything was just as you'd like it from a holiday resort. Clean, friendly and very organised too.
The one thing that stood out more than anything else was the restaurant. It's a very busy, large one at this hotel, with the most impressive array of food you'll ever see. Something to cater for everyone, from diabetic, diet, vegetarian, Kosher, you name it, they cater for it.
Some mornings the champagne was even open in quantity to serve yourself for breakfast !
This hotel will impress you, it cannot fail. The only slight moan would be regarding the entertainment. It was quite poor for the younger clients, the piano bar aimed at older guests was very good though.
We just wished that we didn't book with Thompson !!!

We've visited twice so far, and are returning in June 04. The resturant is large and the food is neatly presented, and with choice for everyone so no-one will go hungry.
The nightlife is on your doorstep but not 'in your face' with an array of small local bars (the original wigan pier bar round the back of the Esmerelda is a must) to the fun kareoke bars. The entertainment staff ensure you always have something to do during the day, if you dont just want to relax by the huge pools. This hotel is a definate must for anyone unsure where to go, at a reasonable price.

Very helpful staff, food is top quality, never had anything I didn't like. Pool area is gorgeous, like most hotels you may have to pop your towel on the sunbed if you want to be near the pool but, lots of sunbathing areas and of course, your right on the beach too.
There are a few bars around the area so quite a bit to do, the hallway leading to the rooms had been updated and looked really nice the rooms could do with a bit of updating as they are a bit dated now but, very comfy and lovely carpet was nice especially after having a bath/shower at least you don't go slipping & sliding everywhere!
Was blistering hot when we went so thank goodness for the air conditioning and it had been moved since when we was there last much better position and would defintely go back here again, fantastic hotel!

poolside area was very attractive, lovely warm pool
nightclub below was very good, very close to restuarants and bars, nice walk along the prom, not in the rowdy area of Las Americas. the market is just round the corner from the hotel, very nice hotel

| said: Hi all ,
firstly I must say its been a couple of years since I visited this hotel, and it was brill then and looking at the latest reviews it still is.
I found the entertainment was poor ,with a piano bar down stairs, but as you will see from my resort review below it didnt distract me from how good the hotel was at all.
However I can comment on the location, ammenities etc which wont have changed.See below.
The hotel has a few steps at the rear which lead directly onto the front/ beach.(PERFECT) Past its own little used tennis court.Which is secure and private.
