| said: This was the first time that we have stayed at santa maria and it will not be the last! As with all of tenerife if you have difficulty walking this is not for you as the hotel is up a fairly steep hill on its own private road, there are steps as well as the slope but with the heat people may find it tiring and difficult. The location is the best we have had as its just 5 minutes to the beach, restaurants and shops with supermarkets also very close. We found all the staff friendly and courteous without being intrusive. The hotel was very clean and not one cockroach was seen!! obviously a good cleaning routine was in place. We only had one snack at the poolside bar which was pizza and chips which was very tasty but we prefered the beach side restaurants for our evening meals. There is a indoor restaurant but we did not use it so cannot comment. The one bedroom apartment was of a good size with a welcome overbed fan free to use! the TV had free channels and then for a cost of 1 euro per hour you had BBC1,ITV, Sky Sports and a few others. Towels were changed 5 times weekly. As previously stated we will return next year. Everyone are welcomed to their own opinions but how they can find fault in what is a standard 3 star complex goodness knows how!

| said: this was the worst hotel i have ever stayed in.on booking the holiday, our rep assured us it would be relaxing and really hot,so as we were on our honeymoon, we thought it sounded great.wrong!it was relaxing, there was nothing to do, no nightlife and all the people were about 70 and over.the rooms were awful, there were cockroaches and too many flies and whatever else in the rooms, the hotel pool was so cold that it was never more full than with a couple of brave elderly oaps, the sunloungers never got cleaned nor did the pool deck, the fans on the ceiling were literally hanging by their wire so god help you if they got put on too fast!then we didnt get our return tickets back at the airport for some reason and had to shell oput 20 pound to get new ones. what a joke.Anyway, thanks malta for ruining my honeymoon and we were so glad to see the back of you when the plane took off to home!my advice to people, go to blackpool instead and save your money for the donkey rides!!

| said: Me and my mum stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks,at first we were put in a dirty room that had cockroaches in the bathroom, they were all in the bath, the bathroom was dirty. We complained and a women came and sprayed the room out,but it didn't kill the cockroaches,so we complained again and got moved to a room on the 4th floor that had been refurbished, that room was really nice and modern, much better than the first room, and no cockroaches were in there,it also had a celling fan.
If we had got put in that room first we would have enjoyed the holiday more,i liked the hotel, but the entertainment wasn't good,it was mostly for spanish people.I would go back again as it's in such a good location.

| said: When we arrived we were given a cell (room) in the basement with a great veiw of a 12 foot high wall with barbed wire on top. We went straight back to reception to ask for another room and were told that the hotel was full for the next 3 days, (it was, about 150 young footballers) and could be change rooms then.
The next room was on the top floor and about 10 times better than the cell.
The hotel was very clean and room cleaned every day, any fault was fixed quickly.
The road up to reception can be difficult for elderly people as it is quite steep.
We did not go into the bar as all the entertaiment was for the Spanish people who have bought apartments in the hotel, ands also the drinks were about double the price of the local bars and restaurants.
We have stayed in 6 different hotels in the area and will be going back to the Sunset Harbour/Pueblo Torviscas in September as it is very much better than The Santa Maria.

| said: We have just arrived home from The Santa Maria Apartments.
After reading some reviews we were a bit worried, but we were very pleased with the apartment and would stay there again.
We normally stay in hotels in Torviscas area, but decided to try self catering for a change as there are so many restaurants in the area.
We had maid service every day, except Tuesday and Friday, and they made a very good job of the cleaning, leaving clean towells. Liquid soap and shower gel was supplied, as was kettle, hairdryer, T.V, microwave and a 2 ring cooker.
Pool was smaller than looked in brochure but it was adequate, and kids were allowed lilos and balls, even though we read on previous reports that they weren't.
Reception staff were Spanish but spoke perfect English and were very pleasant and helpful.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. We went for my daughters 18th birthday she was given a card, a bottle of champagne and a basket of fruit on her birthday which was 5 days into our holdiay, this was totally unexpected and I thought it was really nice that they had taken the trouble to do this on her actual birthday rather than on arrival.
We could not fault this hotel at all and will definitely be returning.

We love the location of the Santa Maria, close to beach and bars and supermarkets.
The hotel staff are very accommodating and friendly.
The hotel, pool and bar areas are kept spotless.
The only downside is that the entertainment is limited to a fashion show, a parrot show and a solo organist and this year we missed the paella demo but then again there are other bars nearby with entertainment on.

| said: Don't let them fob you off with one of the basement studio apartments with a balcony view of a wall and the sound of roadworks above. We got given one of those but on complaining, we got moved, albeit a day later, to a lovely fourth floor studio with a seaview and miles better decor than the original one.
Reception staff were very helpful. There seemed to be a good mixture of British and other nationalities. Pool area is very basic and not as nice as it looks in the pictures.
Hotel seemed to be fairly clean throughout and the only problem we had was the water going off all day through the whole hotel one day, but they let us shower in a spare apartment.
Five minutes walk up a hill from Puerto Colon harbour and beach and supermarket right outside hotel (where all the timeshare touts also prey on British people coming in and out - they're described as discount tickets or scratchcards but everybody wins a prize and if you're gullible enough, you'll be taken to a sales office and subjected to 2-3 hours pressured sales pitch where you'll be asked to part with thousands of £ on the day......we know from other people!!)
Entertainment was nothing special, just a few Spanish singers and a Parrot Show one night (much better to be found in dozens of bars within ten minutes walk).

The hotel was very clean all over and the maid service was very regular although pool bar had basic menu basically just snacks, but what more do you want through the day. The service was very slow we had to be patient but still very friendly staff.
Steep hill up to the hotel and has just been re tiled up the hill which is very slippy if wet (bit of rain while we was there)be careful. However, very close to the beach about 5 mins walk also close to the harbour and restaraunts etc.
Entertainment reps do their best but do not get much response from the punters, so about average.
Would certainly go back again and we are doing in June.

| said: Just superb.Went with my disabled brother as we have never had the chance to have time together since we were kids.
The staff were just out of this world , Recommending restauraunts , ordering Taxis. The cleaners were brilliant as well.
Yes this complex is on a steep incline for the last 100 yards but if someone with a false leg can make it ( yes with difficulty ) it should not be a problem for most.
Taxis are dirt cheap anyway so save yourself the hassle & get one back each evening (& day as we did).
I travel due to my work & have been in 5* hotels who need to send their staff to this place for a lesson.
forwhat we paid for the holiday it has to be one of the best value trios I have had.
I may be looking through rose tinted glasses becuae of the time I had with my brother but I don't think so having spoken to others that were on holiday at the same time.
There was only one group that we talked to that had any complaints but these were the sort that were rude to begin with & wanted all the luxuries without paying for them.(A little tip from them.
If you are polite & extend courtesy you may find you you are repaid 10 times over !

| said: Having read a number of bad reviews was worried about going. The roadwork's out side were worrying as we had to be dropped at the bottom of the hill and walk up with our ten cases. The incline to the hotel was a problem for my parents who are in their 70's would have been nice to have been warned about this before.
On arriving in our rooms, we had booked three, the two bedroom apartment had fans and very much needed, the two one bedroom apartments did not have fans and you had no chance of sleeping without, I would recommend the first thing you did was hire fans. The rooms were well equipped with kettle, toaster and hair dryer, the fridge had a good size freezer great for freezing down bottle water. We were on the fifth floor and over looked the pool, nice view but no sun on balcony. The evening/night noise was not a problem after about 1am.
The pool area was nice, and you could not get out for a sun bed before 9 am, but if you wanted to be around the pool you needed to be ready for a sunbed run when they opened the doors, plenty of sunbeds for away from the pool, and only a couple of days did all the beds get used. Plenty of Parasols available and they brought more in on our second week. The pool bar served food and drink at reasonable prices but the service was very slow, so pay for your ice-cream before you get it out the freezer or it will be melted. Life guard on duty from 10am till 6pm but was over the top on what you could and could not do, one day you could play ball the next it was a no no.
Entertainments, the first week no real entertainment was offered in the evening, the second week something was on each night in the pool bar, but apart from the snake show never more than a couple of tables taken.
Location. Great location only a couple of minutes walk to the beach, harbour and all bars and restaurants. TJ's great place to have your lunch, looking out to see with good food and service.
I would return, once the road works were finished, but would make sure my room had a few fans.
Few tips, high floor is a must to avoid night noise from bars around. TV remote 20 euros but you get this back when you go, we had one between us and you could change channels with out, English channels were 24 and 25 Bbc and Itv1. If you want a pool sunbed make sure you are ready to go when the porter opens the door at 9.

Say a bit about the children's entertainment has there was none at all. Kids disco consisted of three kids and one CD and a couple of balloons that's it. Kids at the age of three and two six year olds don't know who Black Lace are. If I was taking children there I would forget it. It's only based on adults.

The rooms are basic but big enough. We stayed on the 2nd floor. The balcony was huge and our little boy loved it.
The food we had was ok. With us all being veggies there wasn't that much choice.
The hotel was fairly clean even though there was work going on.
The swimming pool was great and the staff very nice.
The hotel is a 5 min walk from the beach.
The only real problem we had was the pubs below got a bit noisy late at night. But what do you expect from Brits abroad?

We were appalled to find a camp bed in the main living area in a room for 3 adults. The kitchen area was not brillianty cleaned and we were greeted by cockroaches daily. The location was not too bad though you do have to cross a busy road to get to the beach. The staff were ok but not really that pleasant. The entertainment was mediocre.

The hotel was clean and tidy, the young male hotel staff were only interested in the young ladies and did not have time for us families.
The entertainment at night was terrible we always went elsewhere.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was cold, no tables cleared so this was terrible. The drink was expensive in the bar they ran out of Lager and sold us bottles at the same price as a pint.
Overall I would never go back to this hotel and if you have kids it is even worse as they are not kid friendly

We found all the staff especially the reception and entertainment staff very helpful and friendly, our room was cleaned every other day and we always had clean sheets on our bed and clean towels.
We were there when the hotel was been renovated and were warned there maybe some noise but to our amazement we didn't hear a thing.
The weather was hot and was able to hire fans to keep us cool.
Another couple in our party was staying in a room what had already been renovated and it was beautiful they had air conditioning, oven and hob which also had a toaster grill and newly tiled kitchen area with marble like unit tops, shower and bath which was very clean as it had just been re tiled.
I hate any kind of spiders and creepy crawly's and I was very pleased to have not ever in both our times found any cockroaches in our apartment.
I would highly recommend staying at the Santa Maria apartments I have enjoyed it every time.

We find it very clean and the staff are always very nice. We never saw any bugs and we had clean towels when we needed them. We never came back at night until 1am as we spent our evenings at Amanda’s and we never had any trouble from the security man.
We also walked down to Torviscas beach every morning for our breakfast at the Ferry cafe, we also went there a couple of times for our evening meal.
We only went to the disco once but did not find it to our taste.
We stayed here in June when we took our 12yr daughter with us, that time we had a 1 bedroom apartment, plenty of room. This time we had studio still roomy and next year we have booked a studio

| said: Definately staying in this aparhotel has ruined our holiday in the beautiful island of Tenerife.
What really drove us mad was the fact that this Hotel did not provide maid-service as promised and no clean towels were available. We were not advised about the service provided and expected to have our rooms done and clean towels daily. Reception staff advised that two times a week, the service was not provided, but we had our room done only ONCE throughout a 7 night stay. We had to beg for clean towels and were only given one or two daily (all stained and smelly).
It is really hot in August and would have never imagined that the Hotel does not even have fans!!! To hire one (if you manage to find availability) was too expensive - not even worth considering. We had to put mattresses on the floor in the balconies to manage to get some sleep!
Cockroaches were our 'neighbours' wherever we were. The Hotel is really infested - we had cockroaches in the lobby, in the Restaurant, in the bedrooms - everywhere. We were even disgusted to eat at times when we saw all those cockroaches running around. Funnily enough, when we pin-pointed it to staff on duty, they just kill the cockroach and kick it on a side! Very professional!
The Hotel is situated in a very good location and the staff did their utmost to try and help us, but unfortunately everything seemed to be beyond their control.
In other words, my suggestion is Do Not Go There if your are visiting Tenerife, and consider a 4 or 5 star Hotel, cause 3* service is nothing compared to any other country I have visited up to now - Crap!

2adults 1 lad (16) self catering 2 weeks6-20/8/04
the hotel is at the top of a small hill, on arrival the room wasnt ready as we arrived at 3 pm. we waited 1 hour, time to have a look around.
pleasant reception, terrace not as big as we thought , the brochure it looked bigger, 60e deposit for the room, 32e for the bigest safe we have ever had, you get a key and put your own combination into the control panel( well worth it)in the room it was basis but comfortable, fridge, hob, oven. 2 beds and a sofa bed- we were on the 4th floor great view of the sea.
the rooms were cleaned every other day, CLEAN TOWELS, PLENTY OF HOT WATER, not many elec points and yes there were wires hanging out (this was because the rooms are being renovated, expensive to eat in and the drinks at the bar were pricy compared to the outside bars.
my view. a good holiday - nice hotel- security on all the time- we had no problems - yes we would go back to this hotel without any hesitation, what problems we heard about were sorted.
book trips from the agencies not the tour rep as they are cheaper. try the half day fishing trip from los christanos - the crested wave - brill 40e well worth it.
the only other minor point is there was no air conditioning in the rooms and as the resort had one of the hotest august on record we could have done with it.
go there with out any fear you will enjoy it - no i dont work for thomas cook or agencies- thanks thomas cook and santa maria hotel -

| said: this message is for all people thinking about booking to go to Tenerife and planning on staying in the Santa Maria.....please change your mind this hotel is a shambles lets start with the cleanliness non what’s so ever the maids did come to our rooms like they said but they didn’t clean our balcony, tables, even our bins sometimes weren’t cleaned out didn’t try the hotel food thank god also our location wasn’t good especially since there was six adults looking for a good time so that meant we had to walk for 30min or get a taxi which was fun by the way if your a fan of formula one racing. This should be fun.
The hotel staff? What a joke especially down at reception were we met our arrival we waited nearly 30min to get booked in our rooms. Also whenever I went down to the reception to say get a paper they wouldn’t serve you they just walked by you as if u weren’t there very rude indeed.
Entertainment? Didn’t try it found veronicas to be the best way to enjoy our night outs.
Would I visit Tenerife again yes I would and I have been for the past 3years but I couldn’t stay at the Santa Maria ever again.

| said: We stayed here for a week. We had been booked for the Paradise Park hotel in Los Cristianos but we changed because there was renovation work going on at the Paradise Park. What a mistake!
The apartments were very basic and crawling with ants when we arrived.
Someone had vomited in the pool and when my son and his friend told reception staff they just shrugged their shoulders.
The apartment right next door to us was being refurbished- this meant a lot of noise and dust and rubble. The smell of sewage during this was awful. The outside walls of the hotel were being knocked down and restructured which meant dodging wheelbarrows and workmen with circular saws everyday.
This holiday had cost £1700 for one week self catering.
We contacted Cosmos on return as we couldn't get the rep while we were there but got no joy or compensation.
All in all I would never stay at these apartments again.

| said: The Santa Maria hotel was the worst I have ever stayed in. The staff were very unfriendly when we told them of our worries that our level 1 room balcony door did not lock, they told us to go away because they didn't like us! We also rented an iron from the hotel reception, when I asked where I could find an ironing board they told me to use the floor in my room. When I started to use the iron I realised that it leaked water into the electric cord. Again we complained and they told us that we broke it! The rooms were mean't to be cleaned daily but weren't and when they were cleaned we were given dirty towels with blood on them. There were electrical wires hanging from the walls and ceilings. Staying in the Santa Maria has actually put me off ever going abroad again which is a shame as I use to go abroad at least twice a year. The hotel was not only dirty but it was a health hazard

| said: Surprised at the negative reviews for this hotel for a cheap winter/summer get away we thought it was great and have been twice once in october and once in april its nothing special but its clean and the staff were always nice to us we e mailed them both times a couple of days before arriving asking for a pool view or sea view room which we got both times.
The rooms are quite big with breakfast bar sofa chair and two beds hob fridge kettle all basic but it is only a 3 star
Very good location only 5 mins down hill to a really nice little harbour with great food and 5 mins up hill to the large san euginio shopping centre with bars and stuff
We have been to many resorts and hotels and feel this is fine for a cheap get away i have stayed at about 5 3 star apartments in tenerife alone and feel this was one of the better ones .

| said: my stay at the Santa Maria Apartments has to be the worst hotel experience of my life. on arival myself and five others were allocated rooms in what seemed like a dungeon, practically undergroung, dark and filthy. we did get moved, 2days later, to much nicer rooms but if you dont like coakroaches dont come here!!Infested!!
As i was on a girls holiday we tended to come home in the early hours, only i might add to be sexually harassed by the night porters, sleezy and perverted, on two occasions following us to our rooms. we did complain about this but it was laughed off.
my opinion Dont Go!!
