The food at this hotel was lovely, the buffet had great variety every day and there were also snack bars where you can order from a menu at lunch time.
There did seam to be a shortage of waiters some days so getting a drink was a challange, the staff overall were great especially in the lobby bar.
The communel areas of the complex were kept nice and clean however the room was a little on the damp side.

This is our second visit to Laguna Mar, and we enjoyed it as much this time as a few years ago.

Very clean hotel, rooms cleaned, and towels changed daily.Although some of the rooms do require a little upgrading, especially the bathroom areas.

We had a junior suite this time which was plenty big for 2 adults 1 five year old and an 18month old baby in a cot.
Food is nice and there is plenty to choose from. Neither of our children went hungry!

The only downside to eating was in the Topaz restaurant where there are small birds which manage to get through the netting flying overhead, not in the buffet part with the food but in he seated area. This put me off for the first few days but you do get used to it.

Location is excellent as its situated out of town and therefore fairly quiet. Security guards patrol each entrance and the beach so no unwanted peddlers to pester you.

The hotel staff are the best I've ever come across in all the years I've travelled all over the world.

They are the most friendly people on earth, from the entertainment team to the gardeners everyone speaks to you.

The entertainment team were fantastic, and put a lot of hard work in to doing the evening shows as well as daytime activities from beach games to dancing lessons.

Both of our children had a wonderful time and keep asking when we're going back.

Hopefully it wont be too long till we do

We went to MI from 22 June to 6 July this year. We stayed at Laguna Mar and it was fantastic. I was a bit dubious before going as i'm not a lover of big hotels but my fears were unfounded. We booked a junior suite but to be honest i don't think we'd bother WHEN we go againbecause we didn't really spend enough time in the lounge part of the room to warrant it.

We spent time around the Waterfall pool with the swim up bar (past the olympic size laned pool!). We would get there any time between 9 and 11am and there was always plenty of sun loungers available until the last few days (italian schools broken up for hols?) and then it was a bit more crowded.

Mealtimes were no problem - Topaz, where you go for breakfast always had plenty of choice and you couldn't fail to find something. Ok, somethings weren't to our taste, such as shredded fish for breakfast, but there was cereals, fruit, breads, cold meats, waffles, bacon and eggs. Lunchtimes were normally spent at Salvatores where, again, there was a great choice, burgers, pizzas, chicken in a basket, chips, salad. Then for dinner we went back to the Topaz where they had a different theme each evening but with enough choice that no-one was going to go hungry. Each person has one meal at the italian and one meal at the mexican per week. You can only book for each the day before with the customer services in the lobby. We had one meal at the Italian which was beautiful. Its a bit more formal and there is a sign stating no shorts, but of course you get the ones who just ignore it and come in looking like they've not changed from the pool. We were going to book for our last night but didn't go to book till that morning and it was booked up and we couldn't get in so make sure you see the staff on the morning before the day you want to go. We had two meals at the mexican - Brill. Take a camera to get you piccy taken with the sombrero's on - and try the mexican coffee - an aquired taste but i thought it was good! Service was fantastic and food was beautiful. Its a more relaxed atmosphere than the italian and i'd greatly recommend it. There is also the beach grill bar which we went to once - chicken, steak, sausages, salad, fish - lovely.

Hotel extremely clean, no food take out allowed from restaurants, so no flies or wasps hanging around.

Junior Suite was very spacious. Bathroom in need of an update, but also huge and clean.

Hardly any balconies on either of the towers.

Most all inclusive resorts (this one is over 40 acres) are set out of town. So this is pretty standard and it only costs £2 to get a taxi to the local shopping mall - very clean and modern, but same prices as in the UK - no bargains.

Many staff spoke only some English - but hey, we are in Venezuela. All of them understood enough to pour me whatever cocktail I chose. All very polite, and those that did have more English were excellent and all were always brilliant with the children.

The daytime activities were varied and centred around the waterfall pool or down on the beach. Winners got certificates or medals during the evening entertainment.

Evening entertainment was primarily dance routines or fun type Mr & Mrs competitions. We sayed for some, and they were good with impressive costumes and sets.
We saw 'Lion King' one evening and despite being in Spanish, my 5 year old was captivated.

Pool selection was great and always plenty of sunlounger availability, even when the complex was full with locals for Easter on our second week.

Kids pool area is the best I have been to with forts and water guns together with various waterfalls and slides all set in a large shallow pool area with plenty of beds and shades around the sides. There is also a play room with a shaded patio in front. The only disappointment is you can't dump your kids for a couple of hours and go off.

I would definitely recommend this hotel

Food in the buffet style Topaz restaurant was good. Always plenty of choice from salad to steak with a couple of dishes cooked to order on griddles each evening. Italian was lovely. I don't generally like Mexican, but the steak was beautiful.

Salvatores does burgers, pizzas, etc, during the day and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Our favourite was the beach bar \ barbeque where you could have burgers, hot dogs, fish, chicken or steak every day plus mixed salads, vegetables and soup. Staff were particularly friendly here and you are in the shade overlooking the beach.

Beach is lovely sand. You are facing Atlantic so waves and currents are strong and not suitable for swimming, but great fun to chase the waves or boogie board.

Husband went to the Casino - had a fun time. It's larger than expected and very professional - better than some in Vegas. Drinks are free if you are playing or very cheap (30p for a beer) if you are just watching footie on the big screen TV.

This hotel is not a five star hotel as they would have you believe!

As you arrive the lobby is lovely with drinks handed to you as you wait to check in but once you get to your room you will disappointed. Our room had a damp smell the whole time we where there and the room was old fashioned and in need of updating.

Food was nothing special, the Topaz resaurant had wasps all over the food in places but the staff were very pleasant.

Salvatores which is the burger joint/ pizza place was ok but staff did not understand English and preference was given to customers who could speak fluent Spanish.

The pools were cleaned every day there was a good variety of pools some noisy ones with games and music, kids pools with slides and also quiet pools for a more relaxing environment.

I cannot comment on the entertainment as i didn't watch any of it because it didn't start till 9.30 and the kids were in bed by then. The surrounding area to the hotel was quite poor and not really somewhere you could wander around, although it is a short taxi ride to the shopping centre called Sambil but if you are looking for a bargain dont bother its just the same price as back home.

All in all this is not the 5 star paradise I was hoping for and will not be going back ever!

I had just as good a time last year all inclusive in Ibiza for half the price. My advice is don't waste your money.

We have just arrived back from a great holiday at the Laguna Mar complex. The hotel was excellent the staff friendly ,helpful and always very professional.

The rooms were clean and linnen changed daily rooms were massive.bathrooms very tired though could do with replacing. the pools were excellent the kids had a great time.

Food good standard but a little repetetive in the Topaz restaraunt.

trips :- the dolphins were a good value for money trip. the angel falls were excellent although very tiring.
the new first choice rep was excellent i have never met a rep more willing and proffessional [this is his first year] all in all a fantastic hotel and holiday I would go back tomorrow.

I would recommend this holiday on all inclusive to all, drinks flow day and night.

There is a great selection of restaurants to eat in our favourite was the beach barbecue.

The cleanliness of the hotel itself was brill always see them cleaning differnt things every day also maid visits evey day with clean towels.

The location is 5 mins away from local shopping, restaurants etc. The staff were all very friendly and will do anything for you they dont speak much English but its great fun trying out bits of Spanish with them.

The entertainment staff worked very hard and the shows were of very high standard. We went there in Sept for our honeymoon and have just come back from there again our second visit in 8 months we had a brilliant holiday the only way to describe it is paradise we have just booked for June next year.

After me and my family had visited the Laguna Mar almost 7 years ago we just loved the idea to go and see what had changed and if it was good as our previous trip.

My mum and dad stayed in a standard room which was very good. It occupies two double beds and bathroom facilities. Me and my two friends (each of us were 16) stayed in the junior suite which was huge! There was a bigger than king size bed (8ft by 8ft maybe?) 3 sofas that could also be used as beds and bathroom facilities. Each room came with hair dryer, satellite TV and refrigerator.

The hotels are very similar it difficult to tell them apart. The only major difference is the south tower has the Italian restaurant and the north, the nightclub. We stayed in the north tower, and i think a few of the rooms were not used in the south because or construction work.

The meals their were very high standard. We went to the Mexican twice and the Italian once and both were lovely. The topaz restaurant is also good but can get a bit repetitive. (Try the onion soup though) Salvador's is lovely but beach restaurant was by far the best, serving BBQ food. The drinks are okay, but the only place that serves drinks in glasses is in the lobby bars.

Me and my friends had a wonderful time. There was plenty to do and the entertainment staff were extremely friendly, so were the bar staff.

There were many people there mainly Spanish people so it might be a good idea to lean some commonly used phrases.

The entertainment was good, considering most shows they would have to translate it into 3 languages. The cocktail bar had the most lovely bar staff, they were very friendly.

All in all we had a amazing holiday and would absolutely love to go there again.

Four of Us traveled to Laguna Mar for a 2 week stay last month. Hotel was clean if a little shabby, and bathrooms were in serious need of repalcement. We were notified a week before travel of building works taking palce, but this didnt cause any disruption.
Beach was nice but you had to tidy your own sun beds up and the sand was littered with Cigarette butts.

Food was fine in the Topaz resturant, but the beach grill had exactly the same menu for the whole two weeks.

Olympic pool was a great idea and always empty if you want to work off the cocktails.

Evening entertainment was alright but most shows were in Spanish so could get a bit boring. Didnt seem to be much atmosphere in any of the bars and all drinks were served in plastic cups.

The hotel itself is clean and the maid service was excellant. However we stayed in the South tower and firstly there are no balconys apart from the 4th floor, but the air conditioning was good if a little noisy.

English is not spoken very much at all, and on the odd occasion i rang the operator/reception when asked if they could speak English the phone was put down!! The Italian restaurant and Topaz restaurant were disgraceful, poor service in the Italian and poor food in Topaz.

Best restaurants were Mexican, great staff who were very friendly and superb food, and El Salvadores (daytime only) good food. Entertainment poor,( but thats my opinion) shows every night alternating in Spanish and English, but that was it, oh and the disco and casino.

The best bar was the South Tower lobby bar, where we were free from mozzies and the drinks were served in glasses and the waiter service excellant.

The beach was not suitable for children or swimming, as it had very rough sea with large waves suitable for surfing only, however the lifeguards manned the swimming area daily which was marked out by yellow flags. Plenty of shade and soft sand.

While we were there 2 of us and others suffered from a bad 24/36hr sickness and diarrhea bug, very unpleasant and worse than the usual climate upset. Had to see Doctor which cost $50. So be careful with food and drinks and hygiene etc.

Mozzies were also a problem we found the mozzie repellant bought from UK didn't work, only the ones purchased over there worked.
So overall good holiday, but would not go back to Laguna Mar.

My Holiday to Laguna mar was the best holiday I have ever had, I had the time of my life.

The Hotel was very very clean and tidy and the maids did a brilliant job of cleaning each room everyday.

The location is really good as it is about five minutes from the shopping mall and 5 mins from Senor Frogs disco which is a scream, I went there one night with the entertainment team.

Well the hotel staff were the nicest people you would ever meet, I loved them all so much and o'm gonna miss them alot. They are very helpful and caring and they will make your holiday most enjoyable. I will advise you though don't get as attached as I did when I went home it was all tears when I said my goodbyes. I mean tears both ways it was hard for them as well. Anyway there wasn't a member of staff that I didn't like they were all lovely.

The entertainment was fantastic. The shows were international so did different shows everynight, some in Spanish and some in English, my favourate show was Grease.

I would recommend this place to everyone as it is a lovely place and most enjoyable for every age

On arrival at the hotel we were allocated our room which turned out to be a junior suite. It was very clean and we had a maid come in every day and room was kept to same standard. Our towels were replaced daily and was impressed that any items of clothing that were left out were neatly folded by the maid.

The food in all the restaurants we went to was fantastic. A special mention has to be made to the beach barbecue. We did not go to the Mexican a la carte as was advised against it but you can visit the Italian twice a week and I believe that was the better option.

The hotel and grounds are beautiful. Well maintained and very clean.

The staff were just lovely. Even though with some the language barrier can be a slight problem they are always very polite and can not do enough for you.

The shows alternate nightly between Spanish & English. But with all the bars and casino & nightclub along with the friends you will make you will be kept entertained. If you feel like having a quite night you can find recent films available for no charge on the TV in your room.

We enjoyed the experience so much that we have booked to go back this year.

I thought all the food was nice, if you are going to a foreign place you can't expect the food to be English.

There was a mixture of breakfasts from, fry- up, cereal, continental, selection of juices, tea coffee and fresh fruit. Lunch you had a bar on the beach which grilled fish, pork, chicken and there was salad or chips or a cafe type place by the swimming area which served pizzas, burgers to just salad if you wanted.

All the food was well cooked in these places. Went to the Italian where the staff were very friendly and the food was ok but not my thing, the Mexican was slow service and way too salty food but it’s not my thing either.
I thought although they repeated the menu weekly the food was of good quality.

The staff were very friendly although my friend and I did find the female staff not so friendly in the whole hotel. We thought this maybe because we were female and English.

Entertainment was ok but mainly in Spanish although it was watchable. The staff were brilliant; we made great friends with them. And for people that work 6 days a week for the amount of hours they do for what id earn a week they are amazing.

The hotel rooms were clean and comfortable, the bathroom needed re-doing though. I think they could of been better but I was happy with the over all quality.

Location was good as it was near to local shopping center, cost about £2 for taxi. Taxis were cheap actually.

We booked 2 weeks here, our first beach holiday for years and our first all inclusive ever.
Previous comments about the ensuites needing a refurb are true and the main eating area does get busy at times and the menu a little repetitive all though food quality was good.
Mexician is great fun and the Italian was chaotic when we went also so is seems it is always like this.
Not mentioned before was some of the great sports facilities, 10 lane 50 meter pool (lane ropes and blocks but water too hot for serious training in Aigust) excellent tennis court complex, dedicated basketball court etc etc.
Overall we had a great holiday, the trips both on Magarita itself and the 'jungle' trips are not cheap but are excellent value, the hotel was very clean, the staff, although poor in English, where fantastic. Being all inclusive you sometimes get a poor attitude in bars etc but not here, all drinks well presented and mixed as you would expect.

The hotel is on its own but 6,000 Bs (£1.50) taxi gets you to the shopping mall!

South Tower needs renovating concrete spalling off exterior walls and these walls need to be redecorated. Carpet ruffled (dangerous?)on level 3 floor foyer. Curtains did not fit windows and dragged on the floor, windows did not shut properly and affected the air-conditioning and also compromised the security of the junior suite, which in itself was spacious with reasonable quality furniture. Bathroom needed renovating. Swimming pools (1) South tower tiles coming off (2) Waterfall bar tiles coming off and concrete starting too crack. we did not use any of the other pools and we did not use the two forementioned more than once. Beach great but heed the life guards as sea is very treacherous.Beach furniture was in good condition and enough to go round. Food very ordinary, Mexican restaurent great, Italian restaurent an unmitigated disaster. Entertainment good but repeated in second week. Sports and leisure department well run and equipped. All the Staff were great, with a good positive and very helpful attitude apart from Guest Service which is a good example of an oxymoron.

The Laguna Mar is not an impressive hotel to look at. It consists of two large concrete towers which are surrounded by smaller buildings and gardens. If you can get past this it is generally a great hotel.

It is true that the rooms could do with a little decoration and the absence of a balcony is a real downfall. If you can get past this you’ll see that the rooms themselves are spotless and who goes on holiday to spend all day in their room anyway??

There are 8 swimming pools and one is especially for children which means that the others are blissfully lilo and youngsters free. We went in June and it was only about 35% full which meant that most days we practically had a pool to ourselves. For serious swimmers there is even an Olympic pool with lanes marked which we never saw anyone in. The children’s pool had water slides and inflatables and was extremely shallow so anyone travelling with kids will find that a godsend.

Food is generally good although does get slightly repetitive. The Italian restaurant was good but you could only eat there once a week. For those who want to try something else there is plenty of choice in town and the trip only cost about £1.50 in a taxi. Town is completely safe which makes a nice change in the Caribbean.

Highly recommended is the trip to Angel Falls which is amazing and something not to be missed. Also worth trying is the horse riding excursion which makes for a fun afternoon away from the pool.

The Laguna Mar was kept clean at all times and the staff very attentive.

A huge complex with lots of facilities and daytime activities. Very quiet during May/June which we preferred - no fighting for sunbeds - complex was only 30% full.

There are 8 swimming pools and at times you could get a pool to yourself for a long period of time. However, they did tell us that in August it gets packed due to the arrival of the Americans! Swimming pools all clean and staffed by lifeguards, who were definitely on the ball. Complimentary beach towel service - a definite plus point.

Food was OK - usual buffet style selection (different theme each night) but repeated on 2nd week of stay. Italian restaurant was not up to much and food was not hot. Did not try the Mexican although heard good reports from other guests. None of us suffered upset tummies during our fortnight.

Entertainment was mediocre - just what you would expect really. There is a casino and disco at the other end of the complex to where we were staying but we never tried this as children not allowed after a certain time - although heard good reports from our fellow guests.

Our room was satisfactory but could probably do with a little updating/refurbishment. No balcony though which was a bit of a let down.

Beach was quiet, clean and breezy but the sea was quite rough and not really suitable for swimming - especially not good for the little ones!

Excellent modern shopping mall was only 5 minute taxi ride away and taxis are cheap!

We would definitely visit again as Laguna Mar was great value for money.

the hotel was spotlessly clean, although the en suite bathrooms were a little shabby and required upgrading.
choices of resturants good and variety of food to suit most tastes{our three year old daughter was able to eat most things}.high chairs provided also.
staff very welcoming and were always smiling.good entertainment available every evening although repeated week two.
choice of nine swimming pools and the childrens pool was a lifesaver for us we spent most days here or in the large pool with twin water slides.
we've been back for seven months now and our daughter is still talking of the fun she had in Margarita.
we all had a wonderful time here and plan to visit again next year.

We had previously stayed at this hotel a few years before our second visit. We went back to get married there. I could not fault this hotel, the hotel was clean and room were cleaned every day. We were upgraded to a suite as we were getting married. This was a huge room with a seperate sitting area and a good bathrom. We plan to visit the hotel again in a few years and will book a suite (worth the extra), although the standard room are still large. We could not fault the food at any of the restaurants. We aprtcularly enjoyed the Italian. We prefer our hotels not to be situted in the town. This is perfect, it is a short taxi ride to the nearest town. The staff were very friendly. They left you alone and did not bug you if all you wanted to do was laze around the pool and not take part in any of the daytime activities. My husband and I did not go to many of the evening shows, although the few we did go too were good, especially for families.

All in all I have to say that this is one f the best hotels I have stayed in.

My wife and I travelled to Laguna Mar in Jan/Feb of 2004 and the two week holiday was superb.

The rooms are large and confortable although the bathrooms were a little tired. The welcome was warm and sincere.

It soon became apparent that the complex is huge with two towers (North and South) with an unused building in the middle. The beach area was weed and obstruction free with daily waves from the atlantic being ideal for body boards or surfers.

The on site activities were very good also - windsurfers, canoes and bicycles were usually available and free (AI)

The food was very good quality and variety. Each day is themed to a country with an option of going to either of the Italian or Mexican restaurant for a further change. (Sadly the Italian Restaurant staff were clueless but the food was very good. The Mexican Restaurant staff were excellent fun and the service was great with good food as well.)

The First Choice rep sells phone cards - dont bother with them - just use the hotel room phone - it always connects and is as cheap as chips!

We booked to go swimming with dolphin locally which was expensive for the experience, the catamaran to Coche Island was brilliant BUT the high point of the holiday was the two day trip by air to see Angel Falls and to visit the Canaima National Park IT WAS EXCEPTIONAL! (Take care with mosquito!) This is not to be missed.

Also - exchanging money through the rep or at the hotel is folly! Use the shop in the hotel for a far better rate or try a shopping trip to Polamar (dont bother with the out of town malls)

The rate elsewhere in virtually double the hotel rate.
US Dollars are very much sought after. DONT USE THE STREET SELLERS FOR CURRENCY-some of it may be counterfeit.

If you need to buy souveneirs dont wait until you get to the airport - it is very small and facilities are poor.

Overall this was a superb holiday and we intend to return in June 2004 with the rest of our family.
