| said: 2nd visit to this hotel, the hotel provides a very good standard of cleaniness, the sheets are changed every couple of days, the towels everyday. The food choice is very good and always hot.
The only slight downside was the boys asking for money this year, which never happened before.. they would plead children to feed etc... invite you out.. but expect you to pay for everything.. so be a little careful ladies....

| said: On arrival we thought the hotel was very clean, we were taken to our room which was on the Royale side we had interconnecting rooms which were brill cos we had 4 double beds EXCELLENT!! The fridges were stocked every day with 4 cans of beer, 4 bottles of water, 2 bottles of sprite and 2 bottles of coke. The maids worked extremely hard and changed towels and sheets on a daily basis NoTHING was too much for ANY of the staff, if you had a problem they would sort it.
Husband and myself had quite a few bites but we were in a country where you should expect this.
What can i say about the food, BRILLIANT something for everyone, even in the evening when we were drinking at the 24 hour bar they put on burgers, jacket potatoes, salad... etc, what more could anyone ask for. Tip the waiters and they will bring drinks to your table before you have finished the first one BLISS.
All the staff at this resort worked VERY hard, and it is hard to please everyone cos there is always someone who isn't happy.
The entertainment team were quite professional worked very hard in the evenings and we really enjoyed the shows, only downside to a certain few was they asked for money which we found a bit of a cheek (which they probably earnt with taking women out on the town , nudge nudge, wink wink) but overall a very friendly bunch of guys n gals.
would definately visit this hotel again, sooner the better.

| said: When we arrived we were allocated a room on the second floor on the Royale side.
We had interconnecting rooms which were large basic and a bit dated but clean enough. The fridges in both rooms were kept filled every day with 2 coke 2 sprite 4 bottled water and 4 beers.
The bathroom was the most dated and when the room above had a shower it came through the roof in to the bath not a problem though.I thought The buzzing transformer outside would be a problem but after a couple of days you got used to it and never realy noticed it.
The food in the resturant was excellent with loads of choice and things cooked fresh to your choice (pasta, eggs and omlettes).
All the staff are friendly, efficient and helpfull.Especially the bar staff.
The entertainment staff work very hard in the evening with the shows. And the day time entertainers worked really hard, to get everyone involved in the activities, especially Spaghetti and shaggy. Be aware the VIP services guys at the hotel, they are only there to try and sell you time share, just say no, Unless you have an hour to waste.
The weather was disappointing the first 4 days it rained in the morning and in the evening but was fantastic in the afternoon. The next 7 days were lovley all day last 3 were sun, cloud and some light rain but it is their winter.

We get to our resort Fun Royal / Tropical "Beach Resort" ( there's no beach there you need to take a tractor to get to the beach ) .
We are shown to our room The first room # was C337 there was mold in the room , phone didn't work ( buttons on it were jammed like me on the plane) . We called our rep from GTD and he met with us the next day , as well as another family which were also having the same problem as us .
At 2pm we were given our next room the # was C131 this room was worse than the first this one had a leaking ceiling the water was coming from the light fixture ( we do believe it was from the A/C )and dripping into the garbage can in the entrance , there was mold once again in the bathroom as well on my mattress that I didn't notice until later I will get to that in a minute .
The Phone didn't work in this room either .
As I was saying there was mold on the mattress and I found out the hard way because after that night , the next morning I could not see out of my right eye it was swollen shut. I immediately called the Doctor .
He told me to meet with him at the clinic at 10 am it was 8 am when I called him .
Upon seeing the Dr and paying the $125 US bill . I received 1 needle in my butt 2 bottles of eye drops( different drops) and 2 different kinds of pills to take for the remainder of this trip... This was caused by the mold in the bed .
There were many other cases of this reported that I am aware of ( at least 6 confirmed).
Next I contacted our rep From Go Travel again this time and I was loosing patience. Our rep came to the hotel to discuss this and he came and saw the room he was as disgusted as were we .
He said he would look into changing us hotels as this was unacceptable. As we waited to hear back from him we were told by hotel workers that we were not changing hotels but would once again be changing rooms.
Room 3 . This rooms # was 1622 and it is nice it's about time .Monday night day #3 of our Holiday/ Vacation And there is Tropical storm OLGA coming .Once again I know there is nothing that can be done about the weather but I am giving you the whole picture of this wonderful week . So the storm is coming I have been instructed by the doctor. Not to go in the pool nor the Ocean and to rest in my room . until I can see again because the infection has spread to my other eye as well. So the storm comes we have no power or water for 2 days not the whole resort but only 2 blocks ours and the one beside ours . We can't open the windows or balcony door because there is no screens on them and the mosquitoes and sand flies come in . So with no air conditioning no electricity and no water it is hard to take the medication that was prescribed to me because of the infection I incurred in this resort . We asked for at least a candle the first night of the power outage at the front desk they said they would send one up ... well we waited and it never came so we just slept. The next day we went to the front desk and asked for a candle as the power was still not back on and they said they would send one up .My wife refused to leave the lobby until we had a candle , So we waited for 1 hour to get one. That night there was still no Water or Electricity so we called the front desk. At this point we were fed up and just wanted to go home . The person at the front desk said to my wife "We didn't ask for your account and the power and water will come on at sometime".
At this point were not only tired ,Hot sore but now insulted .We try to call our GTD rep ....No Answer had to leave a message. Tried the other # on the paper from GTD and again an answering machine .... Left a message. After 1hr30min I called back and got ahold of the other rep on the GTD paper posted in the lobby about 5 min later our main rep called our room and I informed him of what was going on and what was said to us . Our rep said he would call the hotel and 15 min later the electricity was back on and at 4:40 Am the water was back on ..
So a quick recap
GTD reps didn't know who we were, 3 different rooms , 2 eye infections , 1 needle in Ass , 2 Bottles eye drops, 2 kinds of pills, $125 US DR bill, No water for 2 days , No Electricity for 2 days, can't open the windows no screens, Hot no A/C for 2 days, and now it is time to go home.
We were in the lobby at 2 pm ready to go we waited until 3pm and no one was there to pick us up .so we go to the reception desk and ask. they say oh there's a delay there coming to pick you up at 4:30 pm . This would have been nice to know awhile ago but hey why ruin the streak .
This "RESORT" was not a 3.5*or a 4* it would be hard to even rate it a 2 * I have stayed at Leuperon with GTD and it is a 3.5* and it was great . I stayed at Hotetuer Beach Paradise in Cancun it was a 3.5* it was great I have stayed at allot of 3.5 * hotels and this is pushing the bar at a 2* I would only give it a 2 * because the food was terrific like a 4* but the rest wouldn't even make the 2* .
I have pictures of some of the various problems we have encountered. They are pictures of the mold the leaks and my eyes ...

| said: First impressions of hotel were good. It was clean and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. on first arriving it was raining, not a good start to the holiday, but wether was better after second day. Wether very decieving even when overcast, got very burnt!
The food was ok but a bit repetitive after the first week. We visited the Italian and the Brazilian, both of which were very nice, would definitly recommend. Bar on beach has very nice food also, makes a change from pizzeria.
Rooms were quite basic but clean all the same. The air conditioning was handy to have, although a little noisey. Rooms were cleaned as and when requested, always to a high standard. Maids especially helpful, when we left clothes on the balcony to dry off it began to rain. The maids moved the clothes inside and folded them onto our bed.
Hotel was a little out of the way, although very close to the beach ( 10 min walk). there is a tractor which leaves the hotel every 10 mins taking you to and from the beach, which was handy when the wether was very hot!
There is a shop on site, but be warned its very expensive. If you buy things from the shop make sure you pay in peso's as they will guess price if in dollars (usually more expensive)
The staff were very friendly and always smiling, even when it was raining they still got peaple motivated. We had a nice relaxing holiday but there wasnt much to do in the evening unless we left the site. If you are looking to go on any excursions, we would highly recommend Ocean world. We went to the Casino there one night and also to do the Dolphin encounter during the day.
overall the holiday was good there have been a few bad reviews about the hotel on some sites but we thought it was a great place for the money we paid. the only downside is getting biten at night. think it was deffo something to do with bugs in room. would go there again
hope you enjoy

Clean but need a face lift, showers were very powerful and we always ahd hot water. The grounds were well maintained, peacocks and little black birds everywhere, our four year old named the peacocks that were outside our rooms and she spoke to them every morning.
The food was ok but same as any AI it gets a bit samey during the fortnight, I had sausage and egg rolls every morning.
The hotel was in a decent location but there isnt much out and about anyway.
Hotel animation team were brilliant we enjoyed every show they all work really hard and try to get you to join in, my 15 year old son played the main male part in Pocahontis (excuse spelling). pool side games were a good laugh.
Spaghetti was a brilliant lad worked really hard.
We had 10 days out of 14 that rained and when it came it was torrential thunder and lightening played a part as well so it ruined our holiday a bit.

| said: We stayed in the Royale side of the resort-when we first arrived we were booked into the Tropicale side which is rated at a 3 1/2 star but we wouldnt personally rate it as high-the room was in dire need of a revamp and the bed settees were either broken or the mattress were very thin.
We had the same problems with hot water as everybody seemed to have but this is the Dominican and the system is not that capable as ours!!!We discussed our concerns with reception who agreed to move us to the other side which was a completly different story-rooms were clean and well decorated.
The food was fabulous-even my husband who is a fussy eater enjoyed the choice! It was just too hot to feel too hungry most of the time!Kids loved the pancakes and donuts for breakfast and the made to order omlettes are to die for!
Waiters and waitresses always there to help, especially Jose.
The Indian was reported to be great and worth a visit but we were unable to sample it as men need long trousers to enter!!! Unfortunatly none of the men in our party took long trousers.
Entertainment was fab too-animation team worked long hours but were always happy and friendly-spegetti was everybodies favourite!
The grounds were immaculate, always staff there sweeping and tidying grounds-the peacocks and cats that roam the grounds werent a problem! The tractor to the beach was always available and the beach was great-coral wasnt a problem! The beach bar and food was fab too!
I would definatly return to this hotel as longs as it was on the Royale side!

I suffer from a disease called coeliac so I must have a wheat and gluten free diet. Through the help of the Thomas cook rep who translated for me the restaurant staff and the chefs and waiters all made sure all the food I ate was wheat and gluten free they could not do enough for me and I and my friends where made to feel very special. So anyone suffering from coeliacs this hotel does its self proud
The entertainment was good for and quite professional although some nights where better than others all down to taste

| said: Just got back from a two week stay. Before going we read several bad reviews so were a bit concerned and didn't know what to expect.
We booked with first choice and took the opportunity to upgrade our seats to star class premier. This is a great way to start your holiday as you get a priority check in, loads of leg room, goodie bags on the plane, a bigger TV with more movies, fantastic food and plenty of free drinks. We also received a tub of ice cream to enjoy with our movies as well as a complimentary OK magazine on the way out and a Daily Mail on the way back.
On arrival we were told our rooms were not quite ready but were given our all inclusive wristbands so were able to go get a drink after the 9 hour flight. The rooms were basic and in need of updating but were clean and had everything you needed after all it was just a place for sleeping and changing! we did have a problem with a lack of hot water on arrival but after reporting this to reception it was dealt with promptly and was not a problem for the rest of the holiday. Many of the reviews we read complained about the rooms but after going out of the resort and experiencing the real Dominican republic ,where the local people live in corrugated shacks with no windows and only have electricity at certain times of the day our rooms seemed like luxury!
The Dominican is a third world country and the hotels 3 star rating and the price you pay to stay in the Dominican is a reflection of this. Our sheets and towels in our room were changed daily and we were supplied with purified water everyday. The TV remotes can be rented from reception for $20 US which you get back on check out but if you like you can just manually change the channels like we did.
The staff at the hotel were very friendly and did everything they could to ensure you had a good stay although some of them did suffer from manana syndrome when asked to do something but if you remind them nicely they will promptly do it.
Reviews about the entertainment staff being a bit over the top are subjective. The main pool is ideal for families or those who want to join in with the entertainment and the activities provided. If like us you wanted a quiet relaxing break then the adult only pool is the perfect place as it is near the bar and main buffet area and remains quiet and tranquil throughout the day.
The hotel ground staff were always busy washing all the tables and chairs around the pools and washing down the paths. The hotel grounds were well maintained and cleaned frequently throughout our stay.
With myself being a vegetarian and quite a picky eater I was spoilt for choice at the main buffet. The food was fresh and there was something for everyone.
The Italian restaurant was a nice change and definitely worth a visit although seating is limited and you do need to book at around 7am to secure a place for that evening. The pizza bar was amazing and the chef is always willing to make a pizza of your choice if you ask nicely.
There was a wide range of drinks available and although people have moaned about having to drink out of plastic cups this is for your own safety as the bars are based around the pool areas. However when eating in the buffet or restaurants you do get glasses.
Sand fleas can be a problem and on our first night we were bitten while in our rooms, However we went to our first choice rep and he had our rooms fumigated immediately. The rooms are fumigated once a week as a precaution to try eliminate this problem. Sand fleas are only a problem if guests go to the beach and do not shower before leaving the beach or take the towel from the beach back to the room. This is why the hotel provides towels which can be exchanged on return from the beach.
If you want a good night out of the hotel then a visit to the American casino (at the playa dora) is well worth it and you get free drinks while there which is a bonus. We had great fun on the slot machines for hours as a $0.25 US gives you 5 goes on most machines.
Also the VIP lounge at the airport is well worth the $10 US. You can book this in advance through your rep, the $10 gives unlimited soft drinks, 4 alcoholic drinks, sandwiches, crisps. The VIP lounge is also air conditioned so provides a perfect place to spend your last few hours in the Dominican.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and came home feeling nice and relaxed. If it is UK 5star standards then the Dominican may not be for you. But if your open minded and take into account the country your visiting i'm sure you'll have a good break.

| said: We've recently visited this hotel and it wasn't the best we have had.
The rooms were fine, spacious and clean, very dated and in need of refurbishment but fine.
The food was very worrying. On the 2nd night 1 of our party ate some meat and just half way through realised it wasn't cooked through, became very ill and was rushed to hospital, with an intestinal infection, where we stayed for 3 days. The hospital was marvellous, wonderful staff.
We were cautious then about the food, whenever we tried meat both at the hotel and at the beach it was never cooked through. On 1 night it was raining from the restaurant roof into the pasta sauce that was being served to people! Lived on very nice pizza for the remaining 2 days. Not exactly the food I expected to be eating in the Caribbean.
The weather was disapointing. Glorious up to about 1-3pm then persistant rain all night. We did not see any evening entertainment due to the rain and the bars are outside. Lot's of people were complaining about their roof leaking in the rooms. The restaurant roof was always leaking. Most of the staff are lovely and friendly, they do appreciate it if you greet them and say "Gracias" if they do something for you - especially the bar men who will treat you very well!
We had no problem with bugs. Had a liquid repellent in both our bathroom and the main room, and wore tropical repellent in the evenings. Only got bitten when didn't wear it!

| said: When we arrived at the hotel we ere welcomed with a Fruit Punch drink which was needed after travelling for 10 hours.
We checked in and the porters took our cases to our room (make sure you take some 1 dollar notes as they do expect a tip).
Our room was very spacious but did look very dated and need of refurbishment. Our room was situated next to a linen store room which also housed the boiler for our block of rooms, this meant our room was constantly very hot, this was not helped by the fact the air conditioning unit was very loud so at night it was difficult to sleep as it was either too hot or the air conditioner was too loud.
The rooms were cleaned daily and towels are changed everyday, I think bed sheets were changed twice during our 2 weeks.
The hotel runs a tractor that takes you down to the beach (we never used it as it was only 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel) where the hotel has its own area which includes a bar and a snack bar.
The hotel has 3 swimming pools (1 childrens, 1 adults and 1 where all the activities take place during the day). If you want a peaceful holiday stay around the adult pool or the childrens pool as the main activity pool is quite loud and the entertainment team are always coming round asking if you want to join in the activities.
The hotel has 3 restaurants (1 buffet, 1 Italian and 1 Brazilian). You are allowed to eat in the Italian and Brazilian restaurants once a week during your stay, we went to the Italian twice and the food was fantastic (you have to book to eat in these restaurants in the morning and they do get booked up fast). The main buffet restaurant always had plenty of choices, in the morning they do freshly cooked omelette's, fried eggs, pancakes and doughnuts. At night they have a pasta bar where you can get pasta with a sauce made of ingredients that you choose.
If you like pizza head to the snack bar by the main pool in the early afternoon, the pizzas they make there are lovely.
The drinks at the hotel are served in hard plastic beakers, until they run out and are then served in flimsy thin plastic beakers (the ones you normally get with water dispensers). The drinks are of the usual All Inclusive standard (weak beer and large measures of spirits).
There are various activities going on throughout the day around the pool area but the main let down really was the evening entertainment. This was split into 3 parts, 8pm to 9pm is kids entertainment, 9.15pm to 9.30pm is “Ice Breaker” they drag 3 or 4 holiday makers up and have drinking or dancing competitions, then 9.45pm to 10.15pm is the main show. The main show at first is quite good it involves the entertainment team dancing and miming to various songs depending on the theme for that night but, this is the same every night same dancing just to different songs, very repetitive. For saying the hotel is All Inclusive the entertainment finishes far too early at 10.15pm and then the entertainment director tries to tempt you down to “The Plaza” to a big party, we never went as we didn’t see the point in buying drinks in a bar when you’ve paid to go All Inclusive.
The hotel disco opens at 11pm and we had a laugh in there but the entertainment team come in later in the night and take over, they start choosing the music so that when we would leave.
The entertainment team are quite funny at first but the men entertainers are far too enthusiastic and can become quite a nuisance constantly pretending to hump everybody in sight (males and females).

The staff very friendly especialy spaghetti and Andre(macho man)worked hard all day to entertain you or if you wanted quiet you go off to the to the adults only pool.
Time share did ask but if you said no nicley they didn't bother after that.
As I had to go to hospital and stay overnight the hotel staff were all very good made calls and faxes for us to our insurance with no extra charge.
Our rep was always there if you wanted to no anything very helpful.
Would go back again very good weather and friendly staff.
Food excellent always freshly cooked plenty to choose from no need to hungry.
The entertainment on a night very good didn't see same show twice. Only downfall is if it rains their only small disco room to go for show to be put on and it gets very warm in their.
Gardens are neat and tidy peacocks wander all over but do not bother you.
Location of hotel is good beach easy to get to shops a nice walk away or you take a ride on horse and cart. Casino not to be missed five minutes walk away.

Always something to eat even if your fussy. One main buffett restaurant for breakfast, dinner and tea. Fresh pancakes and doughnuts cooked at breakfast - no chance of sticking to a diet. Also italian and brazilian restaurant which have to booked in the morning- very good!
location of hotel on a large complex. large plaza in centre full of shops and bars. Went on city tour to see some of the sights and visted the rum factory.
A must do trip is Ocean world. Absolutely fabulous day out. Went swimming with the dolphins amazing experience.
The hotel staff were absolutley fantastic. The entertainment staff made our holiday especially Johnny, spaghetti and Andre(macho man). They worked the longest hours ever from early morning right through. Plenty to do mini golf, darts, pool volley ball, ping pong and many more.
Evening entertainment really good. Something for the kids and then a show. Some brilliant shows didn't see the same thing twice the whole time we were there.
There were three bars. One of which was open 24hours.
Bar in the pool was great. Plenty to choose from although only downside was the drinks were served in small glasses.
Make sure you take some insect repellant and some anti itch cream as some of us got eaten alive by mosquitos.
The weather was absolutely amazing. Sun shining everyday for the whole two weeks we were there.
Everyone had a brill time and would definately go back there again.

| said: I've just returned from the Fun Tropical Royale Hotel, stayed there between 17 Dec until 31 Dec 06.
Initial impressions of the hotel were very good, everything seemed well organised, stayed in 2 inter-connecting Royal Rooms, basic but had everything you needed (maybe a bit short of space to store clothes).
Food was good, although did become repetative after the 1st week, if you want to eat in the Italian, be warned, you have to book EARLY in the morning.
Few of points to be aware of:-
1) You will see people outside the restaraunt with VIP Services on their shirts, be warned, they are timeshare people, they will tell you they want to show you around all the hotel's facilities (which they do), but at the end of it they will start the high pressure sales pitch. My advice is to be forceful but polite from day one, otherwise you will not get left alone.
2) If you lose your all inclusive wrist band (plastic coloured bracelet), you will be charged $25 for a replacement! This isn't stated anywhere in the hotel literature so take care!
3) Take some cotton PJs (long sleeves/legs) to sleep in, you will be bitten in bed no matter what precautions you take! None of us suffered with bites until bedtime, the bedding was only changed 3 times during our 2 week stay, and on close inspection, you could actually see very small insects crawing on the sheets at the bottom of the bed!
4) The animation team work very hard and long hours. However, I have to say that I found them to be far too "touch-feely" with my 13 daughter. I felt I couldn't relax and was constantly having to watch out for her around the pool area during the day. I wasn't the only parent to feel like this during our stay.
We loved the island and would go again for sure, but we wouldn't stay at this particular hotel.

| said: We came back from Fun Tropicale 2 days ago, loved it and miss it that much we are booking to go back next year.
Would highly recommend First Choice flight, leg space was excellent, food was good, cabin crew we one of the best.
On arrival at Fun Tropicale we were greeted with a much needed fruit punch as it was so hot! Checked in and the porter took our suitcases and showed us to our room, may I say that if you do arrive in the afternoon and happen to walk pass the stage you are welcomed by the guys that are doing the activities.
We had 2 rooms with them being interconnected. Yes the rooms are basic, but spacious. Not alot of storage for clothes, lived out of suitcases for the fortnight, we only see rooms for sleeping and showering in.
Plenty of choices for food, did the Italian twice, kids weren't too keen, but nice for the two of us. Elisabeth one of the waitresses looked after us, so much so that she knew our drinks and fetched them before we had sat down.
Loads of fun activities going on through the day, no pressure to join in if you didn't want to. Kids had a whale of a time, didn't really see them through the day.
Beach was nice, yes there is coral and rocks, but a little walk to the left or right of the beach bar you have some good water to swim in. A 10 minute walk along the beach on the left of the beach bar was a superb part of the beach that we took little one in to snorkell. Beach bar is very good, big hello to Jose, gonna miss you.
Lucky lucky men on beach can be a pain but a polite no thank you and they leave you alone. We made good friends with a couple of them, and they looked after us with the souvenirs, big hello to Blanco(9) and to Ariel(42), numbers are their identity on back of shirts.
Rained for the first 2 days, but after that it was hot hot hot. Take plenty of sunfactor.
The dreaded bugs, yes we got a few bites, mainly in the evening watching the shows. Had no problems with sand fleas, we were at beach every day, shower before you leave beach and change your towel as soon as you get back to hotel. Towels are plentiful, can be changed as often as needed, but may run out towards end of day.
Lastly, animition team. Work hard, long hours and are worth their weight in gold and more. Shows are fantastic, clap real hard as some people don't bother. Big hello to Hector and all the gang, and finally, huge thankyou's to Victor and Louis, pool barmen, gonna miss your cocktails, Caramelo, Picachu and Spaghetti, entertainment staff, you are fab guys always smiling and laughing, can't wait to see you again.
Will we go back, most definitely, been to travel agents already!

The people there are really friendly and are always smiling.
When you go shopping always look before you buy. Go down the Plaza for trips because much cheaper. We paid £120 for 8 of us to go on a jeep safari, we got food and drink included we saw people making coffee and carving ornaments from stone. I'm 11 and very much enjoyed, we drove through the villages and seen the children although they are poor they were very happy. After the village we drove to the waterfall it was amazing you climbed to the top of them and slid or jumped down them it was brilliant.
The food was great my step dad often went up for 5 courses I thought he was gonna blow up. I think he ate a whole pig and a cow while he was there.
The pools were good there is an adult pool that was very quiet, there was 2 other pools that were activity pools.
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and can't wait to go back.

| said: This was a mother-and-daughter holiday, my daughter being 10 years old. Should point out that we are both 'clean freaks' and very fussy eaters (plus we don't eat meat)!
Hotel is not too far away from the airport so no coach-sickness to deal with, but not so close that the planes were a problem.
Hotel is very clean and tidy, always staff around do something or other to keep it that way.
Room had 2 double beds and a fridge (which we had requested when we booked - you're unlikely to get one unless you do this, know other people tried for one after they arrived but never got it). Only problem we had was that the room felt a bit damp after a shower as there was no extractor fan.
Maids came every day, bedding changed 3 or 4 times a week, towels changed daily. I wouldn't bother taking any towels at all as they are provided at beach and pool and you can change them 5 times in a day if need be.
No experience of fleas but there are mosquitoes and we anticipated them. Got bitten in bed the first night, slept under mosquito net the second night, then finally worked out that if we slept with the air conditioning on at night (which meant using all the bed covers to keep warm) they couldn't get to any skin to bite!
Food was fantastic. We always go all-inclusive but usually to Europe and have never stayed anywhere we would go back to because of the poor food. Here, we were spoiled for choice (which makes a change because we don't eat meat). Everything was fresh and fly free. If you want the 'really good' deserts you need to get there early - deserts, and all food, is replaced regularly, but they don't keep putting the same deserts out later in the evening.
Staff were friendly and helpful. 'Timeshare' mob will try and get you on the way back from breakfast but you get that everywhere.
Didn't see much of the entertainment because the mosquitoes are out at night, tended to watch HBO tv channel in the room which has really good recent films every day and they're in English.
Would definitely come back again, this is the first place I can say that about!
Oh, and the inevitable tummy trouble, we both had it for one day even though we used bottled water for everything even brushing our teeth. Can't say it was the food at all, most likely the heat.

Entertainment was good, as effort had been made into staging the shows and there was the disco as well.
Holiday overall was OK went down a storm with the teenagers in our Party and as every parent knows on holiday that is half the battle will sullen teenagers.
Would visit again even if it was just to keep the younger ones happy!

Rooms were basic but comfortable (what do you expect for a 3*?). All requirements for rooms were met.
There were a few mosquito bites but we came prepared for these. As for fleas, we were warned that there were sand fleas on the beach and were informed of what to do after leaving the beach. As a precaution, rooms were fumigated once a week.
The restaurant always offered a wide selection of food and we never once went hungry. Food was cooked fresh in front of your eyes.
The entertainment staff were friendly and tried to get everyone involved in activities. If you want a quiet time an adult pool area is provided away from the activities.
Overall, we enjoyed the holiday very much and would recommend this resort if you would like a fun filled holiday.

| said: Where do I start?
The first 3 hours after we arrived and went for dinner my husband slipped on grease on the restaurant floor left there by the staff. They knew it was there as one of the waiters had slipped on it just before my husband, but they just weren't bothered. So 3 hours after we arrived my husband had a broken arm on one hand and a broken little finger on the other!
The hotel management were rude and un helpful and wouldn't even give us to cost of a phone call to the insurance company. This had ruined our holiday from then on due to the fact we had trips booked, fishing, quad biking, etc but he couldn't do any of it, so we had to stay in the hotel bored silly !
Then by day 4 the bites had started. A couple at 1st here and there and by the weekend they were fumigating the rooms. When I asked what they were using due to my daughter in the room they didn't know and couldn't tell me if it was safe for my baby!
Due to it raining and there is nowhere for you to sit indoors apart for the restaurant and this was only open when the food was being served, or the reception area which was full of people. They were totally useless and the rude, there was only one man behind the reception that was nice, helpful and friendly Raul-Josefa.
Anyway they fumigated the rooms and this made the matter even worse and the bites got steadily worse. By the 10th day we were at the end of our tether, we had requested the bedding be replaced all of it but they hadn't because the stains on the quilt covers were the same so they hadn't been changed.
We all woke up on day 10 and we were covered in bites they weren't mozzie bites they were flee bites. The rude hotel services manager was as rude as they come and didn't want to help us she said we had been entertaining the feral cats that roam the resort. I'm allergic to cats and I have a bad reaction when told that she gave me a filthy look and muttered something,
After a long argument and half of the result hearing they agreed to move us free of charge, along with 2 other families (one family had to be treated in hospital because they were so bad), they moved us to the Puerto Plata Village around the corner and for the last four days we had a holiday.
It was clean and the staff were lovely the management and staff all ate with us in the restaurant and they were all lovely. I would go back to that resort but never to Fun Royale, that ain't fun at all. Avoid it like the plague(of flees) and if you read the rest of these nice reviews please note the dates. I'm not saying they're wrong but it has got worse from when they went, if you do still want to go get good insurance.

The restaurant if you can call it that served the same luke warm slop every night,we lost weight after this holiday and can't say that often!!
The staff were friendly plenty to do for the kids. If you book trips then do this at beach as it will be half the price. We did and they were brill and reliable, reps at hotels are out to make money don,t forget. Don,t forget mosie crm we were eaten alive!

Firstly I found no sign of bed bugs or fleas, there was only a few mozzies which I was prepared for in a tropical climate.
The food was amazing a huge choice, something for everyone (even my picky 6 year old).
The pools were both clean and safe. The beach was beautiful and plenty of sun loungers.
The entertainment team were amazing, they worked very hard and was constantly smiling. The staff were kind and cheerful. The hotel grounds were kept immaculate.
This hotel states it is a 3 and 4 star, and I was not disappointed.
I enjoyed it so much I have booked to return next Christmas for 3 weeks.

| said: Even though we enjoyed our stay at the Fun Tropicale I do not feel that we will be returning.
The room we were allocated was damp and smelly, we put up with it for 2 days and was eaten alive by either mosquitoes or flees even though we used all the necessary sprays etc.
We went and asked to be moved, which was not a problem thankfully our second room was much cleaner and brighter but the hotel seems to have a big problem with mosquitoes.
We were told this was due to the lake at the side of the hotel, and also the rain which it did every day at least twice a day and very hard. I had 90+ bites at the end of the 2 weeks and so had my partner.
The food was very good especially the Italian and Brazilian restaurants.
The hotel staff we helpful and friendly, the entertainment staff were excellent and these people made our stay enjoyable. There was always some activities going off in the day time.
The main pool could get a bit noisy but this wasn't a problem as there was a quiet pool if you wanted peace and quiet.
A night out at the bars in the plaza helps break the monotomey of the all inclusive concept up. Well worth a visit.
We also went to a Dominican Night Club in Puerto Plata with one of the locals which was the best night out! If you get the chance try it the dancing was amazing and they are so eager to teach you. It is safe to go out of the resort at night so don't let the reps put you off.
One day I will return to the Dominican Republic but will choose a different hotel and probably resort.

| said: We stayed in the Fun Royale 4 adults and 1 4month old baby
negatives first- when we arrived we had no cot-reception man was very rude when i phoned from the room and asked for one- he said they had none and that she would have to sleep on the bed and to try tomorrow!
Second day he was very dismissive and brushed us off saying he was sorting it and we would have one by the afternoon if he could find one. I spoke to a second man later that evening and he got me one within 10 mins- I dont know what the other guys problem was but apparently he was also a bit off with other people and their requests. We also got a fridge on the second day as promised
Anyway-moans over!
The rooms- 2 queen size beds, bathroom with a good powerful shower but no flannels-remember to take your own
cleaner came in every day but sheets were only changed twice during our 2 week stay
Take lots of mosquito cream or Vics menthol(this reaaly worked, only after i got 61 bites) didn't know about vics until I'd been eaten alive. Some people didnt seem to be bitten at all but once they get you they keep biting.
Food-breakfast, yoghurts, fruit, cereal, omelette, fries, scrambled or boiled eggs, toast, french toast, sausages, fried banana..mmm..mmm.yucca,there is definately something for everyone
Lunch-usually selection of meats or fish with rice, chips salad or veg. Evening-variable-sometimes there were lots of nice meat and rice dishes-they have themed nights-Mexican was the best. Food not always very hot though
soups were excellent-they were alwasy piping
Italian-ok, a la carte-so not much on your plate!
Brazilian-nice but take your mozzie spray-as its outdoors and everyone was getting bitten-it put us off because we spent more time spraying ourselves
Entertainment- can I just say to all the people who moan about the shows-that when we went on the stage for the club dance it was incredibly hot up there and these guys dance for an hour or so-dont know how they do it.
We thought the shows were quite good-the entertainers work very hard and are there all day-join in with them, it makes their day. Big hello to Jose, Alex, Spaghetti, and all the crew
Location-beach is 7 mins walk-not far at all-really nice scenery but too far to walk if its very hot
beach vendors are persistant but not aggressive-a polite no thank you usually works-but dont buy anything from them unless its a quarter of what they are asking-everything they sell is in the plaza for a 1/4 of the price.
Would I go back-yeah probably, because all of the staff bar the 1 man at reception were absolutely lovely
big hello to our bartenders-franklin, freddie, izakia, leandro, leonardo-thanks for your special cocktails and looking after Alexas bottles

| said: This was our first visit to the Dominican Republic and had I known about this site before we went, I would not have chosen to stay at the Fun Royale!
I suppose the name 'Fun' should have given me the clue that I was going to be woken up every night (at least 3 tims/night without fail!) by people coming back from the all night disco/entertainment. I can honestly say it was the noisiest holiday I have ever had - and I've had a lot!
The other frustration for me was the lack of interest from the staff. If you want to join in the pool activities, they seem very keen, but the bicyle tour that was advertised in the 'all inclusive activities' didn't happen, as no one could be bothered to take the tour. We were however hassled every day by the tour desk to pay $49 per person to go on a 1/2 day trip on quad bikes. The other trips that we were encouraged to do ranged from $29/person for a tour of Puerto Plata to $130/person for a boat trip.
The tennis courts despite being advertised as opening at 08.00 (when the heat was just about bearable) didn't open until 09.00 - after we had chased the tour desk to find someone to open the courts for us. Again, evidence that the staff were more interested in the partying than the general all inclusive basic activities.
On a plus side our room was cleaned every day and the maid service was excellent. Food was generally of a reasonable standard - although the fruit and salads left a lot to be desired.
For anyone interested in the golf course next to the resort - our main reason for choosing the hotel - take your own clubs and balls. The cost for playing in the summer is $50 for 18 holes, plus $25 for club rental, plus $2.50 for 25 balls, plus $20 for a golf cart/$400 for a caddie. We did not see anyone unaccompanied - therefore making the game price $100 plus 16% tax.
Finally, the location of the hotel is quite beautiful, the grounds are extremely well maintained and the view of the golf course is stunning. A cart will take you to the beach 5 minutes away, which is cleaned regularly. However unless you go on an organised trip you are restricted to the comlex area.

Changed room 3 times, first room small and grotty, second room smelt and was damp, third room acceptable. No fridge, drinking water in container that wasn't sealed. Smelt of sewage round pool area.
Buffet restaurant food not always hot, 3 in our party got upset stomachs. Drinks served in plastic tumblers of flimsy plastic cups. Cocktails very basis with no umbrellas etc. Drinks filled to the top with ice. No ice-creams for the children.
Mini market extortionately expensive, bag of crisps £5.
Bitten to death by mosquitos.

| said: Went on my honeymoon to Domincian, thought it would be amazing, how wrong was I.
The food was ok the first few days, then it was the same stuff everyday and not always cooked through. I ended up with a dodgy stomach for nearly the 2 weeks as did my husband and friends we had met.
The Italian rest, you had to be up at 6am in the morning to book it, unless you would miss out.
The drink, was rubbish, you didn't even get proper glasses even at night time, plastic cups that you would give to kids at a party, and for the cocktails they were a joke.
I also got bite alive with files from the bed, by the time I had to go home, I look like someone out a horror movie, still have scars on my legs from them.
At night there is nothing to do at all, it like a prison camp and if you head down to the plaza to the couple of pubs such as hemingways they just rip you off.
I would never go back or recommended, some honeymoon we had.

The pool area was always cleaned.

The only thing that was a down fall was that there was no fridge in our room. Only a few rooms had them so please ask for one when you book.
Also if you have to buy anything, like suntan lotion or shower gel the prices are ridiculous!!!! They try and charge £4.50 for a newspaper!!!

We stayed in Royale side which is worth it if you can as the reports from the Tropicale side wernt to good. Maid servuce 7 times a week and worth giving them a tip, Disco great for a few drunken laughs.
Will be returning for our honeymoon 2006.

| said: Breakfast- Eggs: fried, scrambled, poached, boiled ,omellete with your choice of fillings. Doughnuts, pancakes. Potatoes, sausages, bacon-crispy small bits not always, but plenty else. Choice of beans in sauce. Fresh fruit, cold meats, toast, fresh juices, etc.
Lunch and evening meal.Plenty to choice from.Pork is very good.
There is also pizza in popeyes when buffet shut.
Italian-good. Make reservation as many times as you like.
Brazilian-Meat from skewers, but be prepared to wait for each one, whilst they carve for you. Rice, chips, salad.
24 hour snacks- hotdogs, burgers, meats, rolls, etc.
Overall we found the food very tasty.
Beach bar 12-3 food. Salads, barbeque. Drinks 10-5.
Drinks 24 hours in hotel, From by the adult pool.
Cleanliness-Rooms kept really clean, Staff always tidying up.
Location- 5 mins walk from beach, or catch the shuttle which is tractor driven. Plaza is about 10 mins away. Quite a pretty walk. There are also horse and carriages for a a fee.
Hotel staff- very pleasant and helpful. Lovely people.
Entertainment- I have given a 5* because they make so much effort. We only saw one show and you will appreciate how much effort goes into them plus the people are brilliant dancers.
We would definately return to this hotel, we think it was a lot better than we anticipated. Actually thinking of going back later in the year, and we dont usually do that. I must say also that we stayed in the Royale side which was a bit better than the Tropicale.

| said: We stayed in the Fun Tropical side which has not yet been upgraded and on reflection we should have paid for the upgrade to the plusher Fun Royale side. Having said that, the room soon became home and was always kept spotlessly clean and the beds done every day. Fresh drinking water was supplied every day too. Two faults were reported, one about the air-con and one about the toilet flush. Both were fixed within a couple of hours.
The food was tremendous. Lots of variety - typical international cuisine and more exotic and local dishes (try the Yucca plant for breakfast, it's good) - the hot food was hot and the cold food was cold. Hygiene was exemplary, all the serving staff wearing gloves and some wearing mouth masks. The Brazilian was a bit of a let down - food OK, little atmosphere - but the Italian was good.
The grounds are lovely and maintained constantly. The gardeners are at work all day and there are small armies of cleaners constantly raking, sweeping, washing pavements and generally keeping everything nice. And good views over the golf course.
Both pools are lovely and refreshing without being cold. The main pool area is lively and the adult’s only pool is relaxing.
The location is on the fringe of Playa Dorada so the beach is a bit of walk away. They provide a vary regular bus service though. The beach is great and the lunchtime buffet is again tremendous.
We found all the staff very helpful and good-natured.
The evening entertainment is a little bit disappointing and consists mainly of mime and dance shows on various themes. A couple of them were reasonable though. Get some Pina Coladas down you and they get better.
All in all a fantastic resort and we will probably be going back.

| said: We stayed in the Fun Royale part of the complex. Never been to an all inclusive deal.Food was excellent and really enjoyed the Brazilian restaurant .. infact all the restaurants were excellent. Holidays are for eating, drinking and relaxing and thats exactly what we did. Fantastic :)
Rosa our maid was lovely and she looked after us well. made sure we had fresh water and cleaned the room every day.
So much food !!! But the food was very good and no funny tummies at all.
Hotel was about 5-10 mins walk to the huge beach but this wasn`t a problem as there was regular transport to and from the beach every 10 mins. Once on the beach endless food and drink. Great!!
Hotel staff all spoke very good english and were very helpful. The doctor was good too ... not too expensive. Make sure you cover yourself with mozzy spray as the little buggers get you all the time in the evening.
Entertainment was ok. Live perfomances every night and they were all themed i.e Michael Jackson night. They even had their own party song .. we even bought the CD :)
Would absolutely go to this hotel again. Excellent. Infact there were many English and German people there. All really friendly. It was the Americans that didn`t seem to stop complaining about something.

| said: We stayed in the Fun Tropicale side of the hotel. First impressions were quite good, but as we experienced more of the hotel, food, entertainment, etc things got worse.
The food was not cooked properly. The meats (chicken, steaks, burgers, etc) were burnt on the outside and raw/pink/blood on the inside. veg was rock hard as were bread and chips/potatoes. no deterrent was provided for mosquito's and other flying insects in the restaurant. the insect (including mosquito's) frequently landed on plates and food. one lady who stayed in the hotel was bitten over 40 times when she visited the brazilian restaurant. quite a few guests that we spoke to suffered from stomach upsets and food poisening, including my girlfriend.
the entertainment usually began around 9.15pm, ending at no later than 10.15pm. some shows were good, but when they were bad, they were very terrible.
my girlfriends digital camera was stolen from poolside, and trying to report this to the hotel staff was virtually impossible as reps were rarely present and the staff could speak little english.

We found he hotel to be very clean and the food was of a very high standard.
We have already booked our return trip for next year and are bringing along more friends and family so they can experience this beautiful hotel aswell.

| said: We stayed in the Fun Royale side of the complex, i found the room was excellent, great size and the Air conditioning worked!!!!!
The maids were in cleaning the rooms every days and even folded up the night garments, the selection of food was excellent and they changed it each evening to themed night ie mexican, chinese etc. u also had a choice of two other restuarants to choose from although u had to book into them the day before. The hotel staff were brilliant they couldnt do enough for u, from the minute we arrived they carried the bags to the room and didnt expect a tip (although we gave him one) the bar staff were very friendly and always spoke to u about what u had done in the day etc.
The hotel entertainment was excellent they put on different shows each evening from Disney shows to Micheal Jackson, was a great laugh.
Hotel also had an onsite night club which played a selection of music from Spanish to English. Although it was full of the staff it was still a good night.
Hotel location was brilliant, ten mins walk to the beach but if u were feeling lazy they have a tractor to take u there. it was also a short walk to the shopping centre.

| said: We were travelling as a young couple, and only went for a week, which is worth bearing in mind.
From the moment we got there the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and the hotel struck us as lively, colourful and attractive. T
The room was very spacious, clean, with air conditioning. We counted the steps to the bar, and I think it was around 15! We could sit on our ground floor terrace, and go for a rum and coke with such little effort. Tip - don't overdo the rum on your first night like I did. Rummy tummy puts you off it for the rest of your stay! We were quite limited on the drinks, not much variety, or the barman didn't understand what you were asking for. They weren't particularly friendly, but try asking for your drink in Spanish and you'll get a long way!
The food was lovely, and we stuffed ourselves. However, it got quite repetitive, and we were only there for one week. I wouldn't have liked to eat the same food all over again for another week. On the upside, the Italian a la carte was fantastic, and you can eat there as much as you like, which we took advantage of. Being vegetarian, I didn't try the Brazilian a la carte, as apparantly it was meat, meat and more meat, with a bit of rice. Everyone who did go said it was fantastic though.
There are two pools, one very lively, the other 'adults only' and very quiet. We were often only joined by a handful of others, and were the only two in the pool. It has wonderful views over the golf course and mountains, and is right next to the restaurant and a pool bar. The lively pool has sports, music and activities. It's also got a great pizza bar, open all day. To get to the beach, there were regular shuttles which were fun Disney-park-esque trolly buses. Or, you can walk in ten minutes along the golf course, which is nice.
The major downpoint was the entertainment. Some people enjoyed it, so maybe it's a matter of taste, but we hated it. At first we laughed it off, but we got so sick of it we ended up having an early night just to escape it. There isn't anywhere else or anything else to do! It's either sit and watch the cheesy, dated entertainment or nothing. We chose nothing. Agadoo was a nightly recurrence, which says it all really.
All in all, a great holiday, but a week was enough. Maybe other hotels offer more for a two week holiday.

The food was of a high standard. There was a theme night over a weekly basis. People staying for 2 weeks will find it repetitive.
The staff were always happy and went out of their way to fufill our needs. The beach was about a 10minute walk but for the lazy people there was a regular shuttle bus.
The entertainment during the day was fun and my child enjoyed it. Over a night time a different show was put on. Well, they did try to entertain!!
Overall, we had a great holiday and would go back there again.

| said: We stayed at the hotel for 7 nights in April 2002, The hotel staff went out of their way to ensure all had a good time. The food was of an acceptable standard.
The hotel had a night club which we visited a couple of times, the main people there being the hotel staff and their friends.
The entertainment was of a high standard with all the staff involved.
The location of the hotel was good, ten minute walk to the beach, and 15 min to the shopping plaza.
Our room was clean if a little neglected,(broken patio door)
The bathroom I found to be of an un-acceptable standard (mouldy tiles and window.)
All in all the holiday was good, I would return to the dominican republic again but would try another hotel.
