Viva Tropic-Alcudia
Before I start to review this particular Hotel I think that everyone should know how BMI Baby can offer low cost flights. We were a party of 4 with an overall 80 kilo allowance and flying home had 79 kilos overall, but we were charged 120 euros for being 12 kilos over, How is this you may ask, well BMI baby state that it is 20 kilos/person which is norm but what isn’t clear is that it is per case as well. Over three cases we were 12 kilos over, 25, 24, 23 respectively and 7 kilos for the bag. No case should be over 20 kilos.
Anyway back to the hotel:- It is what everyone else says it’s the best hotel I have ever stopped at for kids. They have 5 pools, 1 is dedicated to adults only, with 1 dedicated to kids that has a pirates ship built into it with waterslides etc. My kids loved it and gave my young daughter the confidence she needed to start swimming. Rooms were spotless with regular maid service. The shows were mostly of a high standard with visiting acts, the best was the Irish dancers that replicated Michael Flatterly’s show.
We never ate at the hotel as we were SC. Places to miss were Dakotas and Italian restaurant opposite which is on the beach, do not eat the Paella it’s disgusting. Best meals can be found in the old town, they were superb and were typical Spanish dishes. Other good places were La Taverna, excellent tapas, Gli angeli-good steak and Taberna Donasti really good mixed tapas. Lots of places to see and is ideal for families. There are 2 parts to Alcudia one is the Blackpoolish area and the other, by the port, is quieter but with lots to do. Best Chinese meal was Casa el Dragon which is in the livelier area right on the corner opposite the KFC at the start of the strip. It only cost 8 euros/adult and 5 for kids. By far the best buffet style meal I have ever had food is of high quality.
Places to see is the market in the old town and in Inca which has to be the biggest market I have ever been to, good bargains to have. Driving is easy we hired a car through the internet, Europa Gold, good quality car but they stung me for the fuel, £70 and I had to bring it back empty!!
I found the area to be cheap for booze especially if you brought if from Mercadona, which is the islands typical supermarket, 24 cans of 330ml San Miguel for 5.8 euros, 59cents for 1 ltr of wine, not bad either. 3.5 Euros for Cava. Avoid most of the spars they can be expensive.
Beaches are by far the best for kids and is literally 4-5 mins walk away, but can be bit ‘wiffy’ which is typical but not offensive, No stones or sharp rocks it also has a nice breeze to it as well. Reception staff are mostly friendly except the one with blonde hair, she always had a miserable face.
Overall the best place I have visited, hotel is well positioned with lots of entertainment, however when you leave the kids at the ‘kids club’ be aware that when they do external stuff they do not have a clue who leaves them or are concerned that when you collect them they have already left on their own.
Would we go back? Absolutley

This hotel was fantastic! Our rooms were cleaned every day but Thursdays/Sundays with fresh Towels everytime. The hotel had so many cleaners working constantly throughout the day. The pool area was very clean with regular checks on the water. Poolside bins were emptied regular and cleaners were always cleaning paths and everyone was very polite and cheerful. Viva tropic reception staff were always pleasant and very happy to help.Beach towels available for a small deposit which is refundable.
We cannot say enough about the Viva Tropic entertainment staff! They never stopped! They worked from 10am till late evening always working hard to keep everyone happy. There are in total 6 pools with a fantastic 18+ relaxing area and a great childrens play pool.
We were self catering and stayed at the hotel several times for meals and it was beautiful especially the BBQ evening followed by a great Elvis show. Yes I have to say that alcohol was on the expensive side but that was the case everywhere not just at the hotel.
I cannot say enough about this hotel - we just hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Just back from the viva tropic.i will be definitly be booking up again and going back next year!

The hotel rating is 3 stars but I would say it was more like 4 stars.it is a very clean hotel with maids cleaning your room 6 days out of 7.

When I booked the hotel, it only mentioned in the brochure that it had 2 pools. 1 indooor and 1 outdoor. It actually has 1 indoor and 2 outdoor. The extra pool looks new and is a dream come true for adults. It is reserved for over 18's only with its own sunloungers(which are double loungers).

The location of the hotel is also good.if you come out of the front of hotel and turn right then left then right and walk straight on, your at the beach which only takes 5 mins to walk.

The beach is also one of the nicest I've seen and ideal for familys with young children. You are also only about 5-8 mins walk to the marina which is brilliant for shopping and eating out.

I would also like to mention that I didn't smell anything that was mentioned in other posts about Alcudia.

The entertainment in hotel was ok aswell with different things on everynight and the entertainment team are really good with the kids giving them things to do all to to keep them amused.

There is also crazy golf, ping pong, football basketball and tennis court which are all free to use.

I was surprised that the crazy golf was free! There is also a gym, sauna, steamroom, jacuzzis and indoor pool which are all free aswell!

Yes I will definitely be going back next year!!!!!!

Just returned from the Viva Tropic and I must say thats its probably one of the best hotels i've stayed in.

The hotel staff are very friendly and will do anything to help you. Our daughter was too young to join in the kids club, but she would have loved it if she was old enough.

The kids club entertainers are so energetic....and speak every language you can think off!!

We ate in the hotel a few times, and the food was great...rest of the time we ate out but always ended up back on the hotel for 9ish to watch the entertainment...Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Magicians etc...Ive never stayed anywhere abroad with entertainment so it was a nice suprise.

The only negative points i can think of would be the size of the pool - in relation to the amount of rooms/people....there was quite a bit of sunbed saving with towels first thing in the morning...and you never saw the family till way after dinner time.

Also...there wasnt very many English people in the hotel whilst we were there (but this isnt a problem for most people as they go on holiday to escape that!)

And finally, our room was next door to the maids/cleaners room....very noisy at 7:30am onwards...god knows what they do in that little room....but it got kind of annoying being woken up so early!!

Just arrived back yesterday and all i can is the Viva Tropic is the best 3 star hotel we have ever stayed in. We had a room in block 3 on the top floor (only 3 floors)and to say it was clean was an understatement. Our room had recently been refurbed, new bathroom, new furniture, new floor tiles etc etc. The only bad point i can is that the apartment was what you would call cosy, fine for the 3 of us but for a family of 4 it may be a little small, although i don't see it as a problem as you only sleep in there at the end of the day. The location of the hotel was also very good, off the main road so very quiet and only a 2 minute walk to the restaurants etc and less than 5 minutes to the beach. There is a spar shop directly opposite the hotel so you can stock up on what you need. The hotel staff are very friendly and do all they can to make you stay as good as possible. One thing that really shocked me was when we arrived the man on reception told us to go and look at our room to make sure we liked it and were happy with it before we checked in and if not we could have a different room, never in my life have we had that sort of service before, it's normally a case of like it or lump it. I don't know if this was because we booked with the hotel direct and got our flights separtely but anyway we were very inpressed by this. Although our little didn't go in the kids club as he is only 2 the entertainment for them was none stop all day and night but not to the point where it annoyed you. The entertainment in the evening was also good although we tended to go out most nights for diner etc. To be honest i would say this hotel deserves a 4star rating compared to some of the other 3 stars we have stayed in over the years. I can honestly say i can't wait to return to this hotel and we never normally go to the same place twice!

We decided to add breakfast onto our room at the hotel which seemed very reasonably priced. There seemed to be a large variety of different foods to suit everyones taste. The location of the hotel was excellent for local shops, restuarants and beach.
The staff also seemed very friendly and happy in their jobs.

Well we arrived in Viva ropic during June 07,
Viva Tropic coaught our attenton because we had been in Viva Mallorca and were thrilled with it!
First impressions were pretty good, It was about 9pm yet outside on stage there was a show on going which seemed quite good. We first checked in and the receptionist was so helpfull we couldn't have asked for more! We wanted to eat out tomorrow yet we weren't familliar with the place so she even got us a little map which was extremely helpful! The rooms looked great! We had everything we needed for a great week holiday! So we set downstairs after and had a drink. Next day the kids tried out they kids club they were 11 and 8! Of course the club was packed but the staff tried to get all the kids equally involved! The hotel is owned by scandanavian's and there were lots of people from Sweden, Norway etc.! So the staff could speak tons of languages! So we went to the pool which was lovely and big! It was broken up into two sections! We went to the town and there were lots of shops and the food in both the hotel and the town was absoulutely FANTASTIC! All in all this is one of the most family fun hotel we've been to and definitely the best hotel in Majorca! And in my opinion deserves more than a three star! Will be going back very soon!

Fantastic first visit to Majorca. Could not fault the hotel.

Tried the dinner buffet twice and it was lovely.

Entertainment staff were amazing, we had problems getting our children to leave the hotel and do anything else. They particularly loved Daniella & Sanna & our daughter aged 8 has decided she wants to go and work there when she;s old enough! The activities were marvellous, a good mixture of Nationalities all got on well together. The entertainment was great, no-one expects 'West End' standards, sometimes there was a 'dodgy' note & and 'unusual' costume but on the whole it was fab. Can understand it not going on late enough for some, but for most families (including us) it finished at the right time.

Yes sometimes the service was a little slow for drinks but one night my husband went to the bar himself and it wasn't a problem.

We'd go back and recommend to friends.

Arrived on Saturday night at one thirty.

Only two couples on the bus going to Viva Tropic. Met by porter to take the baggage. All went well until I found out that the booking by Alpha Beds had not been fowarded, however, as we had the booking slip that we printed they said that would do and nothing was any problem.(was I in Spain or dreaming)

We got a lovely room on the second floor. Super room big bathroom with non ending hot water. Out for a burger round the corner a quick pint and the bed. Next morning up and out for brecky and a walk round to find the legs ,and believe me it dosent take a long time to find your way around Port de Alcudia as its very small and extremely little night life, so if you want a drink after 10.30 forget it as little happens in Alcudia .

Every night the entertainment in Viva was above average but as soon as the cabaret was over we were the only people in the bar, and the staff were quick to tell you its time they went home so another lookey round for a little bit of entertainment anything at all will do even kareoke. After getting a few hours looking round off to the beach for a romantic walk (every night ) so if you want an average bit of cabaret until one ish forget Alcudia go the north pole!

However if you want a sunshine holiday to go the beach or hang round the pool enjoy the amenitied at the Viva Tropic as no hotel in alcudia can beat it for cleanliness and the best staff inMajorca. Super hotel and unbelieveable staff (reception, cleaning, bedroom, dining room, outside eating.)

We had a studio apartment with two twin beds & cabinets, dining table & two chairs, coffee table & two armchairs, built in wardrobe & drawers, and a kitchen area with sink, drainer, two hotplates, fridge & cupboards. Cutlery & crockery were supplied.

The hotel consists of two short three-storey blocks and one longer six-storey block arranged around the hotel's swimming pool/sunlounger/bar area and a small public play area. Our balconey overlooked the play area.

The hotel is close to local shops and is about 250 metres from the beach (the Viva Golf hotel run by the same firm is actually on the beach) and about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Port d'Alcudia.
The surrounding area is very quiet.

Breakfast is a buffet with a selection of cold meats and cheeses, fried eggs, bacon, tomatoes etc. and various types of fruit.

TV in the room provides CNN and BBC World, plus several German & Spanish channels. There is internet access near reception.

Overall we were very impressed the hotel and the staff who were all helpful & efficient, and we would recommend it highly. The only minor niggle is that there was no microwave which might be a problem if self catering.

Stayed in Block 2 on the first floor in a 2 bedroomed appartment with a pool view. The place was ideal as you could sit on the balconey and watch the entertainment.

My chldren are 8 and 5 so some nights they needed their bed early. The hotel staff were always helpful and nothing was too much for them. As for cleaning it was fantastic, the rooms and hotel area were spotless. The pool was cleansed every night and there was no litter anywhere.

The kids club was like no other, the only thing you had to pay for was the tee-shirt painting and Friday which was kids day only around 4 euros, this included a meal and you didn't see them until 3.30pm.

There was a bouncy castle, mini golf, play park, swings and a volley ball court. The shows at night were great, Cinderella, Lion King, Aladin, Beauty and the Beast, some were very funny especially Ilja as the Cinderellas' stepmother. (It's got to be seen). The staff at the kids club Joanna, Caroline, Frida, Niklass, Michelle and Ilja were outstanding. My children didn't want to go home, they loved it. The adult shows were just as good Saturday night fever, Chicago, Jukebox, besides the outside shows.
The hotel was 2mins from the shops and resturants, aswell as the beach. There was no noise from the resort, traffic or anything.

Don't bother bringing towels as you can rent them and just change them every couple of days and you get your money back at the end of your stay.

The pool was freeform and very pretty, but a little cold, warmer in the afternoon, the children didn't seem to mind though. The pool snack bar was reasonable they didn't sting you with the prices.

Excellent for families and couples.

Stayed in the Viva this year and can honestly say one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in.

Clean, with polite helpful staff, it was my dads 60th birthday when we were there and they sent him a bottle of champagne without us even telling them it was his birthday.

Food great and well priced, bar staff at night quick even when it was really busy, because the entertainment was brill, four kids with us age 8 to 15 and all kept happy.

Quiet at night with everything finishing about 11.30 or 12.

Going back this year again and cant wait.

Highly recommend this hotel.

Great children's and teenagers entertainment on offer. Lots of added extras like trips for teenagers e.g. to water park and go-karting. Teenagers own room with their type of entertainment e.g. pool table, air hockey; play station set up on large TV in bar area so kids can use it; internet so teens can bebo!; bouncy castle, play park and sand volley ball court in the gardens.

Fantastic masseuse comes to the hotel (Pablo) and his fee is well worth what you get. The best massage ever I had.

The hotel was fantastic - cannot think of a single bad point to report.

The entire hotel was spotless and the maid service excellent. Fantastic facilities (gym, launderette, shop, snack bar, pinball & arcade games(very entertaining whilst waiting for laundry to finish!), pool tables, two salt water pools), it was impossible to be bored and you were not made to feel like you had to join in if you just wanted a quiet time.

There were organised activities every day for children and adults and entertainment every night - the staff worked incredibly hard to keep everyone happy and deserve a medal!!
The food in the buffet restaurant was so good, with so much choice, that we upgraded to half board for 7 out of our 14 day stay.

Perfect location - not on main road and only a short walk to the beach.

We would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

Our room at Viva Tropic was basic but spotlessy clean.

Food ok but not to our taste and did not think they had much choice for children. However what we did eat was lovely and hot. The food from the snack bar though was fantastic.

Only a couple of minutes walk to shops, bars etc and about five minute walk to beach.

Entertinment, FANTASTIC. Joanna, Freda, Carroline, Michelle, Ilja, Nicklas and Annarose do a brilliant job. Activities start at 10.00am and go on all day. Would recommend trip to Rancho Grande for the children, ours went twice. Both kids cried when time to come home which they have never done before.

Would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely go back.

We stayed at the Viva Tropic and had booked on-line so did not have much of a clue as to what to expect from this hotel. We were delighted when we arrived to find the hotel and room spotless the staff were very helpful and friendly. Although there were a few family's staying at the hotel it was a very quiet and relaxing place to stay.

There was proper air conditioning in the room and the maid service was 5 days a week. I honestly could not think of one complaint against this hotel it was first class both in location and the hotel itself.

We met quite a few people in Alcudia who were unhappy with their hotels due to noise and large queues but I never experienced any problems of that nature at Viva Tropic.

We travelled with First choice and apart from a grumpy rep on the way up to Alcudia they were excellent too. The transfer back to Palma took ages because the coach driver detoured through every old village on the eastern side of the island instead of taking the new fast road, the trip that is normally just over an hour took 2 and a quarter hours.

This is our 2nd year running to visit this complex.

Its an excellent hotel for families. The Entertainment is non-stop from 9am to 12 midnight.
The evening entertainment is a mixture of professional shows and sows run by the Entertainment crew.
The entertainment crew shows are better than the professional shows. Grease, Chicago, ABBA Gold in particular are Brilliant.

We were self catering and normally would not eat in the Hotel but not the case with the Viva Tropic. The food here is excellent and good value weither you are looking for snacks or main meals.

The rooms are modern and are cleaned 5 times a week. the cleaning is excellent and the rooms were left spotless. Just leave towels in bath and they are changed.
Air conditioning is excellent

You don't need to bring Beach towels with you as you can rent towels from the reception.

The Staff are very nice ( considering the long hours worked)

The Hotel is is a good location. 2 mins walk to the beach. 5-7 mins walk to the Port of Alcudia. 15 mins walk ( 3 mins in Taxi) to the beautiful walled old town

Going again next year

Stayed in Viva Tropic July 2005.

First impressions, friendly,helpful, spotless.
Maid 5 days a week.

24hr reception.

Pools excellent.

Top pool depth 1600mm-1900mm(5ft-6 1/2ft). Botttom of the pool shallow(1ft)round outside sloping down to 4ft. We had our 10 year old daughter with us and she loved it. Bit deep for smaller kids but plenty in pool with armbands, rubber rings etc. Pool attentant on from 10am-closing. Very busy 11am-4pm. We tended to use the pool 4pm onwards. A lot quieter and sunloungers available.
Have a small pit pool for the tots but never seen it used much.

Food in hotel was v.good. Plenty of entertainment all day for kids 10am-7.30. Then shows on for the adults. All shut down 11.30-12.00.

The hotel reps worked their socks off on the go from 10am-midnight setting up the next days show.

A lot of mixed nationalaties. Germans, Dutch, Swedes, our 18yr old son found it hard to mingle with others but still enjoyed.

Would certainly book again. A very good 2 weeks had by all.

Roll on 2006.

Viva Tropic was really clean, the rooms were really spacious and modern.

The hotel staff were very friendly and the food in the snack bar was really nice and cheap. The food on the a la carte menu was nice and also cheap.

Entertainment was good we stayed in on the Beatles night which was superb.

The children’s entertainment was good the only thing however was that there was only about 10 British people staying at the time the rest around the pool were German my 3 year old felt a bit left out, obviously being unable to play with the other kids, and they tend to get up rather early in the morning moving furniture around whilst having breakfast.

I have just returned after 2 weeks at Viva Tropic and it was the best holiday my family have had. The complex was so clean and the staff very friendly. It was 5mins from the beautiful beach and the main stretch, shops and restaurants. The complex had so much going on all the time, every day, my children didnt want to go anywhere but stay at the complex, it is excellent for children.Every night had entertainment on and a kids disco. It was that good that i did try and book for an extra week but it was fully booked up. If i had to give this complex marks out of 100 i would give it 100.Our apartment was over looking the pool and very roomy, one thing i would suggest taking is a travel kettle apart from that the apartments are equipped very well. Excellent is all i can say.

These apartments were really good. The accommodation was very clean and good size. Large balconies as well. Ours was fitted with a see through effect which was great. No looking at concrete when sitting on the balcony!. The entertainment was really good and the kids loved it. It didnt finished until 11pm so if you had a room overlooking the pool area it could become quite noisy as the entertainment was outside. You are only 5 mins walk from the fantastic beach and restuarants. There is a supermarket just up the road which bakes there own rolls. Yum yum.

The beach is fantastic. It is very clean and child friendly. You can walk out quite away before it goes deep. There is quite alot of rides near the marina for children so beware if they see them they will not want to come away. Alot of the resturants look over the beach so you can have a meal whilst your children play happily infront of you making sand pies!.

I would return to the same apartments as they were very good value and the location was excellent
