| said: The Optimist - What a fantastic holiday! It doesn't look much from the outside and the green tiles leave a lot to be desired, but the apartments were clean and safe. We only saw 1 cockroach and we stayed for two weeks. I did feel sorry for families and elderly people who had been placed there as the apartments were taken over by 18-30's, it wasnt the staff or reps fault - travel agents should have know! I definately go back, 10 minutes from Starco's. Brilliant holiday can't wait to go back!

| said: On arrival to the Optimist we were very disapointed with the hotel overall!!
tThe apartmen was dark, however, large, felt like we were in prison, with shutters on the windows.
Within an hour of arrival, I found cockroaches on the kitchen worktops and crawling on the tea towel.
we asked to be moved rooms, which we were later that day. however, the room much the same.
Pool area ok, but could do with updating, as so for most of the hotel!!
The pool snack bar rarely had anyone there to serve
you and we found it shut most of the time, even in the day.
we have stayed in a 2 star complex in Tenerife before, and this was perfectly fine, we dont know what has happened to this one?
If you have young children, dont go!!

| said: Had 25 lads stay at these apartments for 5 days. First impression wasn't very good as it was dead, which to be fair should be expected for this time of year.
However, when we got into our rooms (which were 5 5 bed apartments) we found it to be decent for a lads holiday. Aparmtents are basic, but we hardly expected the Hilton when booking a cheap 2 star apartment.
I think the main thing was that everything was clean. Maids came everyday, and would give you more towels and also change them whenever you wanted them changing. So was impressed with that.
Location wise it was very good, very easy to walk to all places and bars of interest :o)
Didn't hear any noise either from clubs / pubs at night. The only noise was on the Monday morning when someone decided to go around and cut the grass behind our apartments. Other than that it was fine.
Apartments are situated in two blocks, the odd numbered apartments are on the right hand side, which is in the shade all day, and the even numbered apartments are on the left hand side which were in the sun all day.
I'd def use these apartments again as you get what you pay for.

The rep was really helpful and a good laugh too.
We had plenty of entertainment with excursions in a package so it filled your whole week.
I would recommend this place to people who are out to have a good time it's cheap, clean and convienient.

| said: We arrived at these apartments around half 5 in the morning. Everybody who was staying there was up and making a lot of noise; playing music, shouting and jumping in the pool.
The room was dark, small, dirty and disgusting!! The apartments look nice from the outside but do not be deceived, they are revolting!
During the day the pool was packed, again with all the people staying there making a lot of noise!
The hotel staff were extremely rude and lost our passports, which they did not seem to bothered about.
The only good thing about these apartments is that they are near the main strip of nightlife, but thats it!
We stayed one night and asked to be moved, which we were, even though the rep wasn't helpful and was also rude.
We would never stay here again and if you are a family then DO NOT stay here!

| said: It’s very hard to find an appt when you've got 3 children and at the right price. The Optimist offer clean, cheap and an excellent location in Playa de las Americas. You can make the holiday just how you want. If you want peace its there, if you want the nightlife then that’s also near.
The rooms are basic which considering I had no intentions of cooking it didn’t really matter, however they were clean and the maids came in every other day to change sheets and towels. For the price its excellent value for money.
The pool area is lovely and is cleaned every single morning. Sun loungers are of plenty at any time of the day.
Near to numerous supermarkets and shops all in easy walking distance. Staff are very pleasant and helpful.
Looking to go again next year.

We were not dissapointed. The location was great and not far from all that we wanted. Very clean and the maid came nearly every day and changed the towels.
As this is an escapades complex we knew that things would be basic but hey the pool is a great sun trap and the sunbeds were plenty. Every morning the pool was cleaned and the area was swept clean.
Overall we had a great holiday and we are looking to book the optomist again in October.

| said: Just returned after 2 weeks at the Optimist, previously stayed there 7 years ago with 3 kids, but this time, we were just a couple. Have been to Tenerife around 8-9 times, always self catering.
The cleanliness standards had dropped a great deal - whether as it's a quiet period they were letting staff take holidays... but we had no cleaning, bin emptying etc for 5 days! Soon rectified when we asked at reception, but still... we had let it slide as there had been a big storm and thought they may have been busy cos of that.
Floors were dirty on arrival, under the beds really mucky etc.
These apartments are in a great location, no hills and in a quiet area but near to everything. Apartments are very basic, but fairly spacious ( we got a 1 bed apt for £ 320 each for 2 weeks) and particularly good if you have children I think, as the the complex is small, there is a lifeguard, all apts. face the pool and you can see where the kids are at all times quite easily, which isn't always the case in apts. which have a fancier lay out.
Any complaints/issues dealt with quickly by reception and I asked if we could keep our room on last day - coach transfer wasn't till 7pm and I had been quite poorly with a chest infection and they said yes, no problem. I know we went at a quiet time, but they still could have charged us for that and didn't.
Would visit again - we got them for a good price and they met our needs well - and the location is very important to me.

| said: This was our first time in Tenerife as myself and 5 friends stayed at the Optimist.
As we arrived (at around midday), we were greeted by the friendly reception dude who was very co-operative in helping us settle in.
We had booked 2 rooms between the 6 of us expecting there to be one bedroom in each apartment, with one of us sleeping on the sofa in each room. But to our surprise, both rooms had two bedrooms each with a total count of 8 beds. This was a great start as we had all expected to fight it amongst us to who was sleeping on the sofa.
As for cleanliness........spot on. The cleaners were in almost everyday or every other replacing towels and cleaning up.
The pool area was superb too, as there was a very spacious pool and plenty of sunloungers.
The location of the apartments is absolutely amazing as we had very good and short access to reataurants, and the Veronicas area for night life entertainment, as well as the beachfront. If you are at the Veronicas end of Las Americas, and decide against walking back, a taxi will cost you only 5 euro at the most.
If you have no transfers to and from the airport, a taxi will cost you around 20 euro (14 pound).
Well recommended apartments. I'm only back yesterday, and we are all intending to book up again at the same place.

| said: I stayed in the Optimist Aprtments In august of 2005.
It was my first Holiday and I had the whole apartment to myself.
I thought the standard of the apartment was excellent as well as the maids coming to clean the apartment, give me new towels and wash the sheets every other day.
Although it doesn't have a lift and I found it a struggle getting to the tird floor without one I would still highly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Tenerife.
It has an excellent location with lots of restaurants close at hand and a beautiful (holllywood like) strip outside the door with lots of souvenir shops and supermarkets with the beech very close by.
The nightlife is about 20 minutes walk away but it's only about 4 euro in a taxi if you don't fee like the walk.
The apartments overall were very spacious, clean and quite cool considering they weren't equipped with air conditioning.
Give it ago and definetely ignore any bad reviews about it.

| said: We stayed in the Optimist Apts in March 2005, and had seen some poor reviews re cleanliness. Not so - although basic, it was clean and tidy, and perfectly adequate.
We saw one cockroach (soon disposed of), but you get those all over Tenerife. We didn't use the cooker, although I noted one of the 2 hobs didn't seem to work. The fridge and electric kettle were all we needed. Take care - the water IS hot! Clean crockery and cutlery were also provided, and cooking utensils if we had needed them.
There is an excellent supermarket nearby which has everything you would find at home (except ginger biscuits), and several things you wouldn't! The apartments are well located in the centre of things (plenty of restaurants and bars within a short walk), and there is a good pool with no shortage of sunbeds.
One problem that we didn't find out about on booking was the building work nearby. On enquiry, we were told that construction had almost finished, and they were just painting. Again, not so! They were busily mixing concrete on the upper floors, and also doing some grinding/cutting work from time to time. We had asked for a quiet room, and ended up on the far side away from it, but we talked to others nearer, who found it quite annoying - particularly on top of the normal traffic noise! If noise bothers you, try for a room somewhere near the main entrance, which is on a quiet side road, away from the building work.
Overall, if you aren't seeking luxury, you could do a lot worse than Optimist. Incidentally, we also talked to a couple who had stayed at Laguna Park 2 (an alternative option we had been offered), and it seems that the problems with feral cats were not as bad as you might think from reading the internet reviews (although the hill is)!

When we got into our room we were not happy. The balcony crawling with ants, that night, a cockroach was in our room. We had to block out the balcony doors with a towel to stop ants from coming in.
The pool was surrounded by blood and glass and litter. The music had swearing and violence in.
We will NOT be coming back to these apartments.

| said: The Optimist apartments are self catering and have adequate cooking facilities for a short stay, although eating out in Las Americas is very cheap.
As for cleanliness these apartments are the dirtiest I have ever stayed in, I can confidently say that the floors had not been swept in weeks or washed in months. The bathroom floor had mould growing in the corners up to an inch thick. The toilet was an absolute disgrace, not a pretty site whilst sat in the bath.
In the kitchen don’t be tempted to look under the cooker if you lose anything as the sight that greets you may make you sick.
The location of the apartments will be plus point once the nearby building works have been completed as it’s central to just about all your needs.
The reception staff were helpful in that they sent the cleaners in each time we complained, however the cleaners think folding dirty towels and making beds helps clean the apartment.
The Optimist has no entertainment on an evening but there is an abundance of it locally.
I can definitely say I wouldn’t visit The Optimist again as not only is it unclean but unsafe with broken electrical fittings, tiles with sharp corners and some very dangerous wiring to the safe. I am only glad that I didn’t take my children to these apartments.

| said: Our room was on the 3rd floor, this wasn't a problem for us, but may be for some. There isn't a lift, so difficult when you first arrive with suitcases.
The rooms are spacious and ours included fridge, toaster, kettle and even a bottle opener. The oven/hob was difficult to use, and was difficult to tell if you had turn them off. You can purchase food and drinks at the bar, and the waitress/bar person was lovely.
Also the water can sometimes come out of the tap scolding hot immediately, and I did blister my finger. So it's definately worth remembering if you have children especially.
The rooms were very clean and cleaners were friendly and trustworthy. Bins were emptied, bath and shower cleaned, beds changed and floors swept regularly. The cleaners didn't speak much English, but they spoke better English than I spoke Spanish.
There wasn't any entertainment on site, however they were very near restaurants, bars and some 4 star hotels, and you couldn't hear music from the pubs at night. It's about 5-10 minutes walk from the lively pubs in Veronica's centre.
There was a life guard on duty around the pool during most days. There is a choice of table tennis, pool and volley ball and I think basket ball if I remember rightly.
However one night I lost my keys for my room (I wasnt' drunk, and I have never done it before). I explained this to the guy on reception and found his attitude quite disgusting. He told me that they didn't have any more keys until the morning when the cleaners arrived. I then asked if they had any spare rooms to use until the morning, and quite abruptly was told no.At this point I felt angry, as I knew this must have happened before and they must have a spare key. After telling them this he then told me that they do have a spare key after all. By this point I was very upset, imagining that I would have to spend the night on the beach. We were charged 30 euros for the lock to be changed in the morning (which I didn't mind as I did loose the key), but was very annoyed at their attitude. So may be wise to place your keys in the key tray at reception, which we didn't know about until after. Apart from the key situation I had no other problems.
A few cockroaches about, but I expected this. But place all your food in the fridge. I left a crisp packet out for around an hour and found a cockroach in it.
I had a fantastic holiday and would return.Have been home 3 days now and wish I go back. I felt we had good value for money.Found the safe expensive to hire though. I have tried to be truthful. Hope you have a fantastic holiday, I did.

We had a ground floor apartment because of the children and on entering it it was very clean. Their was everything we needed for a s/c holiday including toiletries.
The maids came in every day and although they never spoke english they did try to communicate and was great with the children. I found them very friendly. All the staff where polite and friendly including the pool attendant.
All in all i found the optimist apartments a pleasure to stay at and am now trying to book for next year.

| said: My friend and i booked this hotel as i was working for MyTravel and it was a new apartment in the brochure. We found the room we had was fine, on the ground floor, we had initially called it 'prisoner cell block' as this is what our bed room resembled! We were not wrong, we not only found these apartments to be dirty, we also found a needle and syringe in the pool, although i was travelling without my 2 children, there were small children in the pool and i was astonished to find that although the staff were alerted to this, no immediate action was taken. Hence, we did not use the pool again. Another problem, was youth groups playing loud music in their apartments until 3am! I am young too, but the noise was awful! However, the location for us was good, central to everything, we had a car but it wasnt necassary. If these apartments cleaned up i would stay here again, albeit when the building works surrounding the complex are finished!

| said: this hotel was lovely it was in between all the 4* hotels and we only paid £99. the rooms were absoluty huge, you had a medium sized bedroom and a separate bathroom, a separate kitchen and then a large living room and balcony. there was loads of space for the two of us. the apartments were quite clean however i wasnt to keen using the kitchen facilities(oven).there were not ants either because i really hate ants there was not a bug in sit. the layout of the property was good, and the were not that many people on the complex. the staff were friendly and helpful however there is no lift so good luck to whoever is staying on the third floor, there are quite alot of narrow steps that you have to climb, and with a heavy suitcase its not good for your back and the reception staff don't help. other than that i had a brill time and i would definately go back and i would recommend it. the hotel location was excellent it was within five minutes of everything couldnt have asked for a better location. there was no entertainment but you were close enough to the main strip anyway
