After reading holiday truths, about the internal rooms, we checked our booking form to find that we had been allocated one of these rooms, with no view, but a wall. I contacted the hotel (manager) explaining that we had requested our Travel Agent for a south facing room, as we were going on a long stay, and sitting on a sunny balcony was part of our holiday. After a couple of e-mails, to and from, he advised me to contact our travel agent, which we did, and had to pay extra for an exterior room!

When we arrived, room 858 we overlooked the beach, which was very nice, but North facing (no sun) We asked reception for a south facing room and was told none available (this is a time share Hotel and no doubt these were probably given to them!)And also if you are Irish you are o.k as most of the ones we spoke to who had the best rooms, overlooking the pool, were Irish.

There is a lot of renovation going on, and we had to move rooms because of the noise-drilling, hammering etc. We found that if you wanted to go anywhere, it was bus, or taxi (6/7euros.)unfortunatly we are not walkers.

The rooms are on the small size- only room for one in the "kitchen" we would rate the apartment 3star compared to other 4star ones we have stayed in. Ok for short stay, but not for us long stayers.

We would definitly not go back to Sunset Beach Hotel, as there are much better hotels, in better positions, and we have never had to pay extra for a balcony with a view. We felt cheated.

The menu in the Dining Room was o.k, but after 4weeks we could have done with a change. They should put a Chefs Special on each night. Standard was a grilled tomato, 1/4 sweetcorn, and 2 mushrooms, choice of chips or jacket. Some of the waiters, were very offhand.

This report might sound as if we are a couple of moaners, but I can assure you we were not the only ones with these comments. And to top it all we came down with Gastro Enteritus the 2nd. week, I ended up in hospital, in intensive care, I was only in for 24hours, but it was a frightening experience. The Doctor that came to our room told us that we were not the only ones. After that experience, we cooked in our apartment.

There is an Aldi type supermarket opposite the Hotel which is very good.

The amenities in the Hotel are excellent, plenty going on, and also a book lending room.

This is our 3rd visit to Sunset Beach and we have booked again for next year!!.

What more could you need it's close enough to walk to all the restaurants and bars but not too close that you cant sleep for the noise.

Its practically 5 euros anywhere in a taxi like to the Marina (which is only a 15/20 min walk anyway) to Tivoli, to Paloma Park. The room service was excellent - fresh towels every other day and clean sheets every other - beds made every day (although I think we were lucky there as its not the norm!)We tend to do our own thing for brekkie but had it there one morning - not bad lots of choice but busy- they do a 30 euro for 5 brekkies which is not bad for the choice.

The pool was guarded, security was clearly seen - all entrances are accessed by room cards so v.safe for kids. Entertainment was a bit off as out of season but they did a great paella cooking show - with free wine and you got a large portion to taste too!!

Would recommend for all ages - although v.v.busy in high season - we love it - it's like home from home - staff are great too!

This hotel was a good quality 4 star rated hotel. I stayed with 6 adults and 4 children. The hotel was ideal for them. they enjoyed the pools and facilities available.

I also stayed during the rowdy group of Irish males and they were well out of order. How can a group of men go away together and all they want to do is fight each other, pathetic. If any of these cowards read this I hope they are proud of the fact they spoilt the holidays of a number of people because they couldn't control their drink.

Anyway, when I complained to the hotel they upgraded our rooms and called the police to deal with the cowards. One of the males was arrested. the hotel also refused to serve them alcohol for the last 2 days of their stay.

The interior rooms are not very good. They are dark and dingy, no natural light. The exterior rooms are much better and try and get a sea view, well worth it.

The staff were friendly. The bar was good, however a bit pricey. happy hour between 7.30 and 8.30pm. The hotel is 20 minutes walk from the marina, not that far. Across the road from the hotel is a burger king, garage, aldi style store and just up the road, about 2 minutes walk away a local supermarket.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel, only spoilt by some mindless thugs who couldn't handle their alcohol.

On the 2nd of July this year we arrived at the above apartments anticipating a long awaited, and ‘memorable holiday’.

Booked early on 23 September 2005.And for which we paid €2366.It was definitely ‘memorable’.

To our dismay we were allocated apartment number 228. This can only be described as a CAVE.
There is absolutely NO daylight entering this apartment.
It is located at the end of a service shaft, lined with pipes, beside an utility/machine room and opposite the laundry.

The balcony overlooks a tiled area approx 12 ft across with a brick wall to the right, a brick wall to the left, and an apartment directly opposite. (If we leaned over the wall and looked up we could see the sky in the distance. No sunlight penetrated this far down. (Had there been a fire in his apartment we would have not have had any chance of escape nor rescue.)

Lighting in the living area consisted of two 25-watt bulbs enclosed in cream fabric lampshades. The wall is lined with a brown tinted mirror. Totally inadequate lighting.
The bathroom was the only location available with sufficient light to enable one to read a leaflet or book or even check the colour of a garment.

The bedroom has no windows, with two 25-watt bulbs, also enclosed in cream fabric lampshades, for illumination. Brown tinted mirror is also on the wall here. The darkness was oppressive to say the least.
If you are allocated this apartment do not accept it. (Unless you are a vampire or bat.) It would probably suit teenagers who would be out all night and sleep all day and did not care what colours they were wearing.

After we complained to the rep we were told we would be moved to another apartment.
On Wednesday at 11.00 pm we were told to move to apt 576. This is situated under (I mean under the ground!) the landscaped area at the front of the apartment complex. But compared to apt 228 this was heaven. Granted there were also 25-watt bulbs lighting the living and bedroom area but there was daylight outside.

We accepted this apartment and moved all our belongings to it. We looked forward to the afternoon in expectation of sitting on a balcony in the sun. After all, this was meant to be a SUN HOLIDAY.

The sunlight on the balcony was a four inch strip of sunlight at approx 2.00pm each day .This lasted for approx 30 mins. Then the sun moved back out of view.

The apartment opposite was approx 15 feet away from our balcony. This made it very uncomfortable to sit on our balcony without overlooking someone else eating his or her meals or sunbathing, (which we could not do!). We could see directly into the opposite apartment so I presume they also could see into ours. No privacy!

It was also impossible to get a sun lounger by the pool, which would have been the only area where we could have exposure to sunlight in the apartment complex. One was required to get up at 7am in order to secure a sun lounger. We rise very early to get to work 50 weeks of the year and we do not expect to get up this early in order to have some sun on our holiday.

We eventually bought sun umbrellas and mats and took ourselves to the very stony and shell strewn beach. This meant our 14-year-old daughter did not have a chance to enjoy any of the facilities advertised for the 13 – 17 teenage club as they all took place beside the pool. Nor had she any opportunity to circulate with the other children in the apartments.

Now while booking this holiday we were aware that it is advertised in the 2006 brochure, as being interior apartment with ‘internal courtyard view’, nowhere was there any indication that there was neither daylight nor sunlight.
The brochure states that this establishment has a four star rating. It does not deserve 2 star rating.

The two cockroaches, which we found marching around the bathroom and through the crockery in the kitchen, did nothing to convince us of this rating.

While the bar staff would not serve children under 18 years of age any alcohol, it was freely available from a drink dispensing machine, beside the coca cola machine, on the fifth floor.
This made for very interesting night activity as all the youths in the apartments made their way to and from the machine and back to the lobby where the cans of San Miguel were consumed in copious quantities. Children as young as eleven years of age were drunk. The front lobby window was smashed one night. Very unattractive to say the least.

This is not what one expects from a four star establishment!

I would certainly not recommend Sunset Beach Apartments to anyone and I cannot understand how any holiday company can do so.

PS. If you have already booked there, when you arrive go over the road to the supermarket and buy some 100 watt bulbs and at least you will be able to see your way around the apartments without bumping into the furniture and the doors. We did this and it made a huge difference, we could now find things after we left them down for a few minutes.

Another trick we learned was to turn down the beds so that we could find anything we left down on the white sheets.
Yes its that dark! We left the bulbs in the safe for the next inhabitants.

I travelled with my husband and mother-in-law and the hotel was wonderful and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are very clean and well presented, the hotel restaurant was really good at night and the choice was as excellent as the service.

The only down side is you do not have children try to go when kids at school or do not have a poolside room as it is extremely noisey. If you have kids it has a fantastic kids club.

Going back next year in term time and hope its as enjoyable as this year.

Myself, my mum and my cousin have all returned from a holiday at the Sunset Beach Club. It is a lovely clean hotel in a good location.

It's about a 30 minute walk from the marina but you can get a taxi if your feeling lazy and this will only cost you 7 euros, but all the way to the marina there are shops and bars to have a few drinks in on your way.

The only complaint I have is room 563 which we were given first of all, there is no view just a brick wall and above you is a bar so its permanent scraping of chairs on the ceiling. I think they knew this as when we complained they moved us to a room with a view elsewhere without so much as a grumble it was no problem, we ended up in a nicer room with a lovely view no extra charge.

I'ts a nice clean hotel and the staff are friendly and helpful. We had a lovely time and would go back tomorrow if we could.

The Hotel is in an elevated location directly on the beach. It is only a 20 minute walk to the marina area but there are plenty bars & restraunts within 5 mins. The hotel is classed as 4* and I would totally agree with this. Spotlessly clean with excellent facilities.

We stayed self catering.

Had a room on the 10th floor overlooking the pool and sea. Excellent. Room a bit small but had everything with Mini kitchen.

We had a few meals at night in hotel . We bought discount tickets for a buffet breakfast. Large choice but some mornings if very busy staff slow on re filling food containers.

Hotel very clean excellent bar/lounge area with piano player in evening. Restaurant had singer on each night. Next door was the moonlight bar with bigger acts, but the downside the prices were high for paying to see unknow performers.

Hotel stff excellent very helpful. My son has been before and going again in 2006.

I shall be returning.

Just spent our 3rd family holiday at Sunset Beach. Again we found all the facilities great. Towels were changed daily, & linen twice a week. Kitchen area is small but very well equipped.

We only ate at the restaurant once apart from snacks but the standard was excellent & very good value.

Location may not suit everyone as it is a 15 minute walk to main restaurants along the front & about 30 mins to marina area. This was ideal for us as we enjoy the stroll along after spending all day relaxing around the pool.
Service at the pool bar was slow & seemed badly organised but no more so than other complexes we have stayed at.
There was well organised entertainment throughout the day as well as in the evenings.

Will definately consider going back.

Just returned from Sunset beach and would go back again. The hotel was clean and had fresh towels everyday with linen changed twice weekly.

The kitchen area in apartment was small but had everything you needed. The location of Sunset Beach is good - a 15 minute walk to the centre or 30 minutes to the Marina area.

The hotel staff were ok - all Spanish but spoke good English. Whether it was because we went in August and they were particularly busy or not I don't know but we found them unhelpful at times.

Entertainment was good something on every night. Very child friendly hotel, pool area and play area very safe.

We went to this Hotel as we bought a weeks ownership when we were last in Costa Del Sol.

We were a bit dubious, but the hotel was great. There were a lot of Spanish and a lot of Irish. The kids club was great our two loved it.

The evening entertainment was ok, very loud in the moonlight bar, but good fun. There was activities all day round the pool ie water aerobics, water polo, boules etc.

The Animation team as they were called were great. They all spoke good english and we felt at ease with them.

The room was a one bedroom, although it was quite small it was more than adequate and very well furnished.

Myself and my wife stayed here for an after Christmas cheers up, also the snow was heading towards the UK so we legged it.

Had a fantastic time, room perfect, staff perfect, taxis perfect, the only bit of disappointment was that the hotel were building a pool bar outside our room - Bit distracting - but I am sure all other visitors to this hotel will get the pleasure as it looks really cool!

Will def visit again...

We booked to stay at the sunset beach club as it was rated as a 4 star hotel. I did not find this to be the case. The room had the worst view I have ever had in any hotel anywhere, all you could see was another block about 10 feet in front of you.

The room was dark the whole time, but if you put the lights on then the room opposite could see straight in, so the only option was to keep the curtains closed at all times.

Breakfast was ok, but a very limited selection, not what you expect from 4 stars. Pool area not bad, a bit dirty, but must be on the windiest corner of the costa! Because we went in november we had to get taxis at night as it was very cold once the sun had gone down, and it was quite a long walk to the resort centre.

Car parking sometimes tricky unless you paid 10 euros a night for the hotels own car park. Interior of hotel a bit dated.

We visited this resort in peak season (July 2004). It is rated 4 star and I would say it is that at best . Maybe 3 1/2. As I have visited many resorts around the world this resort could do better by American standards. Upon arrival to the hotel it would have been nice to have been greeted by a doorman or at least bellhops to assist with your luggage after having flown across the Atlantic overnight. But alas you are left to yourself to drag your belongings in on your own. Then I understand it may be difficult to have a room ready for check in at 9 in the morning but I would think that the staff would try to expedite your room as soon as possible but once again we sat by the pool until 2:30pm until the room was ready in the heat of day.

Once we got settled in ,things went a bit better. The rooms were very nice and very clean. Kitchenette's were well equiped and to be honest it was nice to have a fridge and a well stocked mini-market on the first floor of a resort. Some cold beer and chips by the pool , purchased at supermarket prices instead of bar prices was a treat.
But truly this is a self service resort. No waiters to take your order in the lounge (belly up to the bar boy's).Hotel staff in general was limited. Also there are no signing charges to your room anywhere so you are constantly having to pay cash as you go or use a credit card.

The pool is crowded as when we visited it was family vacation time and plenty of children were running around. I was fine with it but older persons and seniors may find it loud and annoying.

The beach is next door and across the parking lot. Nothing special and lounge chairs were available for 7 euros. And remember to carry and pay in cash.

Lastly the resorts location was not the best. You will want to go to the marina area where all the action and restaurants are located. But it is a bit far to walk so if you rent a car to get around that would be best. Parking in the marina area was 1 euro/hour.

If I were to travel to this part of the world again which I might I would stay again but again it's best attributes are it's cleanliness and being familiar with it's system of operating.

We were transferred here from another hotel which was horrendous and on the whole we were very pleased. Helpful staff, lovely room and realy clean. Only downside was no lilos allowed in the pools at any time! This was a disaster for our 13 year old daughter. A teenagers club would have been helpul as she got a bit bored towards the end of the week. There was a brilliant supermarket where you could get beer, pop and ice creams for the side of the pool really cheap. If we ever went back to this resort I would like to stay at the marina end as this was where we liked to go in the evenings.

We had a one bedroom apartment sliding doors seperated the living area. There was a settee which turned into a bed which we had no need to use. It also had a dining table and chairs. A kitchen with every untensil you would want plus microwave and coffee percolator. Although small really well equipped to a high standard. Immaculatey clean. Hotel has a beautiful restaurant and the food is very good and reasonable priced. The buffet breakfast was absolutely well worth the €7 which is about £4.20. I have given the location of the hotel a 3 out of 5 score maybe rather unjustly. Its not in the middle of the hustle and bustle so I guess that would be a bonus to some.

The nearest bars and restaurants are a 5 minute walk away but taxis are parked outside day and night, they are cheap, also the bus stop is a matter of yards away. Entertainment nightly. Staff excellant. I wouldn't hesitate going again.
