| said: I'll start with the basics for those who just want a quick review:-
Airport was nice, quick service and about a 25 minute coach ride away to the Conquistador. Hotel facilities were very clean and modern. Pool was very big but a bit cold before mid day, fine in the afternoon though. Rooms were spacious (being renovated though, we had a new one which was very nice, can't comment on the older ones), Food was only let down, it was good food, nice etc but choice wasn't too great. The hotel had a lot of different nationalities there, not like the usual England with sun us brits are used to, so therefore the food choice as trying to please a wide variety of people, no problem if your willing to try all sorts, but we were a bit boring and like to stick to what we know so generally had full English in the morning and ate out most evenings. Local area was good, not enough for an action packed holiday but enough to keep you busy in between the pool and the beach. A good hotel overall which i would recommend but were I going to Playa again I’d probably try another hotel, mainly just for variety though.
The detailed bit:-
Neither myself of my girlfriend had been to Tenerife before but had heard many mixed comments from friends. Some stated that the part we were going to which was Playa de Las Americas was a very lively 'Ibiza' style place, whish was also a bit of a building site, well I can happily say this didn't appear true. I think in the entire combined resorts of Playa de Las Americas, Los Cristianos and Puerta Colon we saw 1 hotel having some work done which caused no disruption in the area. Also with regards to the lively nightlife I can again say that is far from the truth.
In fact we were slightly disappointed that the local bars etc were rather quiet, but we put this down to being slightly out of season. Anyway, the area on the whole was quite nice, all very new and modern. And despite the fact that Tenerife is known for black sand beaches the local ones were very nice. Playa itself has one small problem which cannot be helped but may cause problems for some people, which is simply that it is a relatively new resort which appears to have built up to join the gap between Los Cristianos and Puerta colon, therefore there isn't really a resort centre to playa, its very spread out. It feels more like you're on the outskirts of the adjoining resorts rather than in the centre of playa. Nothing is more than a 10 or 20 minute walk away and it’s generally flat ground, but depending on the amount of walking you intend to do, keep this in mind.
There are plenty of shops close by and lots of bars a couple of minutes walk away, there is also a small supermarket opposite the hotel and plenty of essentials such as pharmacists near by. There are plenty of excursions advertised, many of which we intended to go on but never got round to it. We did however go to Aqualand, which is only a 5 minute ride on a free bus which picks up 2 blocks away, a good day out, especially with kids. Slightly expensive though. (Just a quick note that we do have children, and although we didn’t take them with us on this occasion, we were bearing them in mind throughout the holiday so a lot of this is from a parents point of view).
Now to the hotel, we arrived late at night so the lobby was very quiet and we were son in our room, but during the day it did look quite a busy place. The hotel seems to have had a face lift recently. The lobby area was very well presented, a large open atrium, piano bar, water features, etc. We headed to our room which was on the ground floor, and were surprised to find it very spacious. All rooms appear to be aimed at 4 people, so with just 2 were could spread out. The room has the general expected features, TV with some English news channels, fridge, safe, good amount of wardrobe space, and all very clean and modern. As I said earlier the rooms were being renovated so ours was a newer one, not sure about the older rooms.
The food started well but gradually got a bit boring throughout the week. It was a buffet style restaurant with drinks such as orange juice, tea coffee etc included in the morning but drinks had to be paid for in the evening, good prices though. The breakfast was always the same: - fry up, toast, cereal, continental, fruit etc, but breakfast is breakfast to me. The evening meal was the main letdown, basically because there wasn’t much variety and it rarely changed from night to night. A week of this would have been too much; we managed about 3or 4 nights but ate out for the rest.
The pool was very nice, very big and had a very shallow part at around 30cm, and then it gradually sloped down to about 1.85m. There was also a smaller pool which we didn’t use, and a toddler’s paddling pool. I think the smaller pool was heated but not sure, but the large one certainly wasn’t and was rather cold before mid-day, much nicer in the afternoon though. There were plenty of sun beds and although the usual towels routine went on, you only had to venture out there before 11am and you’d probably find a couple free. There was one pool side bar serving drinks and ice creams which also served some food around mid day but we never ate from there, always looked quite busy though. The other bar, the coco loco bar is on a island in the middle of the pool, but this wasn’t open, only main season I guess. The area around the pool was very clean and safe, there was a children’s play area and unlike some of the hotels which were very open to the public, the conquistador is gated off with access through a back gate needing a room key card.
The entertainment seemed quite minimal. A team of only about 3 people would announce the activities throughout the day, being the usual such as tennis, archery, table tennis, water aerobics, tai chi, etc. they also did a evening kids club which seemed the usual singing and dancing things but wasn’t very full, although there weren’t many kids at the hotel anyway. There were plenty of things such as pool tables, table football, table tennis, darts, tennis courts, and also computers with internet access and games in the lobby.
Generally the hotel was very nice, I can’t say I’d stay there again, mainly just because of the food, but if you’re a bit more adventurous than boring old me, you’ll probably really like it. Don’t let it put you off; it’s defiantly worth a visit. If you’ve never been to the Canary Islands before, which I hadn’t, be aware of the heat. I didn’t expect early may to be so warm, but I regularly peaked at 40ºc even on a cloudy day, which there was only one. Again a nice hotel, nice resort, enough to do, and good for all ages. Worth a visit.

| said: Recently returned from an outstanding value for money week at the Conquistador, A typical four star hotel in an ideal position the cleanliness of the hotel was excellent with the towels and bed sheets changed on a daily basis.
The dining room could do with some re organisation as to co-ordinate your meal to be able to eat it at it's best was difficult, however there was a large choice with selected dishes cooked in front of you and from which you could choose, but with the number of people to be served the catering can never be first class.
Staff varied in attitude but most were pleasant.
Entertainment was excellent and varied, several tribute acts, acrobats. Parrots, Snakes. Each evening plus a very nice piano bar and childrens activities organised daily. We would consider the Conquistador again but somewhere smaller may suit us better.

| said: Booked the Conquistador three weeks prior to the date we travelled. Was a bit worried by some of the previous reviews.
On arrival the reception was slow and wasn't helped by someone moaning that they had the right to be on a higher floor because they had been coming for a lot of years.
Once checked in we ventured to our rooms both of which had a sea /pool view and were pleasantly clean, and were serviced to a high standard each day sometimes your stuff was rearranged.
The bars were pleasant apart from the fact that the pool bar served you beer in a disposable coke cup and charged more for the privilege, at night I gave up on the table service at the pool side bar which was used for the evening cabaret, due to the fact you ordered with the waiter and could be waiting for up to 20 minutes to get your drink. Although service was slow due to a lack of staff all the staff were pleasant apart from one bar man who was miserable but I avoided him.
Normally I stay by the hotel pool on holidays but at this one I only did it one day due to the pathetic behaviour over sun loungers. People were reserving them at 06:00 in the morning one man even pinched a chair from the bar and sat guard over two loungers whilst his wife went to get the towels, People were moving their loungers during the day to keep pace with the sun which made it noisy and irritating, plus the pool area was like a concrete bowl which meant when the sun shined it was very hot but in the shad it was very cold, so we went to the beach from then on.
The food was good in the aspect that there was a wide selection and the cold food was nice but the hot food temperatures left a lot to be desired.
The hotel is centrally located with a short walk to either the Santiago shopping area or the Veronicas area. The hotel seems popular with more mature people so I wouldn't recommend it to families with children or young couples.
The entertainment is the usual hotel style entertainment 9pm some singers doing covers of old songs, 1015pm The feature show which was anything from acrobats to performing parrots, 1115 the disco (well actually the same singers as 9pm,) The 9pm and 11pm shows were very repetitive.

| said: We have recently returned from this hotel and must say that we were generally most disappointed. Having visited previously some 7 years ago, the hotel certainly then lived up to it's 4 star reputation. However, now I would rate it at no better than a 3 star hotel.
The food was predictable, unimaginative and barely warm at best, frequently running out at busy times. The breakfast was a little better, but again, they continually ran out of juices, milk, cereals at the various 'stations' provided.
The staff were always courteous and as helpful as possible, but one felt that the restuarant area was badly organised and not run as efficient as it could be, which was not surprising considering the number of rooms and the size of the hotel.
During our weeks stay we had problems with, no hot water, no water and a power cut with frequent problems with water pressure, only to be told that this happens when on a high floor (5th).
We booked a high floor following previous reports of cockroaches finding their way up to the 3rd floor - only to find a cockroach in our room one day!!

| said: 4 star entrance lobby, 3 star restaurant, 2 star rooms.
We booked ground floor for the kids, the were in serious need of refurbishment. The paint was peeling the bathroom was black with damp and only half the lights worked. The cleaners either turned up late afternoon or we had to make numerous calls to reception for clean towels so we shower before dinner.
The food in the hotel was good but the staff needed lessons on customer care.
The pool area was fine, no complaints there.
On the plus side my husband and sister had birthdays when we were there and the staff obviously noticed the cards (they were hard to miss) and put a bottle of champagne in the room. The reception staff were really nice and helpful pity it didn't extend to the rest of the staff.
First and last visit I'm afraid.

| said: We stayed here for one month from 21 December 2004.
The day started at 7.0am getting towels on the sunbeds on the limited sunny side of the pool.Mattresses and towel 1.50 euro a day.
Then queue for breakfast, find a table, queue to have your egg fried. The restaurant organisation is a complete shambles.
Behind the lavish marble frontage is a hotel that needs a complete refurbishment of the tired living areas. Our dingy room was on the first floor and never saw the sun,it was infested with small mites, cleaniless of room and bed linen was however faultless, the staff at the hotel are hardworking.
Entertainment was limited and third rate but the piano bar was popular.
We only finished up at this hotel because we were let down on flights. We were booked in to the Esmeralda.
We certainly would not stay at the Conquistador again. We have stayed in better two star hotels

| said: Just the pits. Do not believe any good reports about this dump. It may have been 4 star in 1980, but not anymore. The pool area is the best bit, and thats just about ok. The rest is awful. The rooms are shocking. Worn and tired with repulsive 80's decor. Very small and the worst bed I have ever slept in. I was supposed to be here for a week, but quit after 2 days. The area is awful too unless tattoo'd football wearing types are your thing. I hear the Karaoke is wonderful and you can get pie and chips for 3 Euro !

| said: Had a lovely week at this hotel. The food was amazing especially the fresh prawns! Everywhere was clean with beautiful fresh flowers, even though some repair work was in progress. Our room was big enough though being on the first floor there was some noise from the entertainment at night in the area.
Have booked to go to same resort next January but will try another hotel nearby. Certainly would stay there again,we just fancy a change.
It is much quieter at this time of the year so there were a lot older people there but as we had gone for a rest that was fine.
Excellent place to stay.

| said: Went on a family holiday to Conquistador. It has a lovely location near the seafront. We had a family room which although it was clean the sofa bead for the two children was less than desirable. On the first night, one of the kids nearly cut their leg on a part of the metal bedframe and one of the wooden bars supporting the matress was broken. We also had a problem on holiday , whereby my youngest daughter cut her foot whilst in the swimming pool. This was a result of cracked tiles in the swimming pool. My daughter reuired treatment from a local doctor which cost over 100 euros. Apart from the cost I was most disappointed at the Hotel's attitude and reluctance to take responsibility for this incident.I must also say that during the holiday I personally witnessed another 3 children suffering cuts due to cracked tiles in the swimming pool although not requiring treatment. This was an unexceptable health and saftey risk which nearly spoiled my daughters holiday due to the pain and discomfort she experienced and our own disapointment at the lack of understanding shown by the staff at the Hotel.
