| said: We travelled as a group of 4 girls looking for a fun first time holiday all together. We had the most fantastic time, the hotel is set about 5 minutes walk from Starco's and Veronicas so you don't get all of the unwanted noise but it is still in the heart of the resort.
We went half board although next year we will go self catering as there are so many places to eat out that we wanted to try them anyway!
We did not see any of the entertainment as we spent our nights in the Starco's area. Made some great friends!
I would recommend this hotel to people young and old!

| said: We travelled to this hotel in August, not having been to Tenerife before.
The Columbus apartments look quite old school style when you first arrive which did put me off slightly but i was pleasently surprised when we got in there.
The rooms are quite basic but the cleaners gave you clean towels every day and made your beds and even washed up!! - the only thing i did notice was that the floor was never swept so it was a bit grubby by the time we left! But it wasnt a big deal.
The pool area is nice and clean with a big pool. They lock the sunbeds up at night and open them at about half 9ish, which i thought was a good idea as there was always sunbeds free later on in the morning as people werent reserving them with towels!
The hotel is in a nice location, as it is out of the way of the veronicas strip but within close walking distance. The only thing i did find was that it was a bit noisy at night times, we only had a couple of late nights, so when your in bed at midnight you notice the noise more!
We went self catering so not sure what the food is like. But i did over hear a chavvy family complaining about the food being awful, but then again we spoke to another family who said the food was lovely. I think you get what you pay for really.
We walked to Los Christianos beach as the beaches around Las Americas were dark sand. The walk from this hotel is about 20 mins which is tiring in the heat but worth it.
Loro Parque is a good attraction to go to. Its nice to do something other then sunbathe or go to the beach. We did find that it was quite busy, especially around the times of the dolphin and whale shows. Make sure you get to the dolphin show early, at least half an hour before, as they fill up really quickly!!
We also went to aqualand - we didnt rate this at all. It was quite grubby and you had to pay €8 or €11 to hire rubber rings and you dont get the money back either!! That was a very expensive day out as the food was rather expensive as well.
We didnt stay to see any of the entertainment, so cant really comment on that.
Overall this was a good holiday and i would recomend staying at this hotel if you want a cheap break somewhere. I would go back again if I went back to LAs Americas.

| said: The worst hotel ever, will never stay at this hotel again!!! We didn't sleep one whole night due to fighting, police comming and noise at the hotel. Staff ignorant to the problem. The housekeeping was poorly and the rooms old and worn out. The beds were like sleeping on the floor. Everything costs at this hotel, not even an extra key for the room is free. If you fancy a hotel with a lot of dead drunk people with their children crawling around and a OK pool area this is the hotel for you.

| said: As always we read the ‘Holiday Truths’ after we booked so were prepared for what we may find, so below I list my honest thoughts on the Columbus.
We left late having to switch airports in England due to bad weather, we arrived about 10 p.m. the hotel staff & reps were good at getting us settled quick, the water was hot and is on a communal boiler system, only short supply between sun going down and evening meal!
The onsite supermarket is open until 11p.m. and we were tempted my the Gulen magic show (11.15p.m. start, all the shows do start at the time advertised) the entertainments are held in the west tower, left of the reception area, and seats around 200 people, the bar I must say is reasonable and had the nicest beer of our stay.
The hotel is a good 3 star with spacious apartment / studio sleeps two to three, the hotel shape is two tower blocks separated in the middle by a nice pool area with single level shops / apartment at each end with a sundeck on top of those.
We were in the east tower which faces onto residential apartments and over looks the sea at Los Christianos. The centre area of the east tower is really two tower blocks 6 stories high, connected with stairs balcony elevators and is open plan, hanging baskets water features, gardens below, and provides a nice cooling breeze.
On the roof there are 2 Jacuzzis and a sundeck that will hold 100 people, down below an the far side of the east tower is a heated rectangular pool (near the pool tables) and another strip of area with about 100 sun beds; these are the areas that get the early sun!
The main central pool area near the hotel bar gets the sun dinner time onwards.but is attractively lit for night time relaxing by the pool, the hotel also has a TV sports channel in this area.
The rooms have a electronic mosquito device and we were not troubled at all, the maids patrol the open air corridors from early morning, and you can here the trollies being pushed around, if you are out of the room they will clean it, there was no problem handing the maids our rubbish to dispose of when we left the room.
The area hospital is over the main road North of the complex, so you can here the ambulances if there are emergencies.
As most hotels rent out the ground floor outer facing buildings to businesses, so do the Columbus, the west outer tower has a social club for the clubbers, which was open at the weekends, and a Spar supermarket.
But the big plus is a supermarket I usually travel miles to get to, ‘hippo Dino’ has opened on the South outer side of the hotel (a lobster and a bottle of champagne for 13 Euros) cheapest on the island. Also a 24 hour food bar ‘oh lala’, And across the road from this the California bar ‘great football coverage and brilliant food’.
You can upgrade to all inclusive for 25 Euros per day, the food in the lower restaurant looks ok, the drinks are collected from the other hotel bar, right of the reception, but is only open 11 a.m. till 11p.m., seems good value but we don’t like being tied down to hotel.
You do have a choice of tours and exchange rates from the Thompson reps, the Columbus itself and the outer business (these were best for money exchanges ‘admiral’). The submarine safari is recommended even if you not into confined spaces! The Siam park is coming along nicely but wont be ready till March!
Location of the hotel is ideal; 5 minutes walk (out of reception turn left) to the beach Los Americas, 10 minutes walk (out of reception turn right then right again straight down) to the nicer beaches of Compostella & Los Christianos.
On the way to Los Christianos you cut across Avenue de Las Americas which is recommended for a stroll, night or day, left on this will take you to some pleasant shops thru the glass shopping centre will bring you out on L.C. beach, cafes, restaurants ferries fishing equipment for hire and at the end of the beach on Sundays the open air market.
Turn right some stunning hotels which you can enter for drinks a seat etc. ultimate relax at the Santiago mini golf, play crazy golf or drink coffee by the water features. The Arona arch is impressive and have nightly entertainment book there or thru rep.
If you play real golf, the course is 5 minutes, out of hotel front door turn right, straight on over the road junction on left!
Night life a cluster of cabara, karaoke, continental beers, dart board and live rock music at the Americas Shopping, left out of hotel down to beach road and on left 10 mins.
Right on beach road will get you to Leonardos’ 10 mins, for the 18 -30s Starcos Centre & Veronicas 15 mins.
The central bus station is 5 mins on the way to L.C. beach.
Siam Park is a 10 min walk when it is open right out of hotel and left.
Basically this whole area is ideal if you are not into walking, there are no steep hills but if you are elderly you can hire electric wheel chairs.

The reception area is very impressive, unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the rooms. There were 7 people in our group ranging from 14 yrs to 75 years.
We had 3 studio apartments that were very basic, with the fixtures and fittings being very shabby. One of our rooms was in the main front building, and the other two in the second block.
Our teenage daughters stayed in the main block and therefore didn't really mind the noise from the disco, however, they did mind the noise of the traffic which never stopped day or night. We on the other hand had a relatively quiet time except when people were coming home late making noise on the corridor.
Our main problem with the hotel was the lack of hot water. Not once in the 7 days we were there did we have hot water. I met several people in the lifts who were there longer than me that they hadn't had hot water either. I complained to the Duty Manager and was told there was nothing he could do about it and wouldn't do anything to compensate us for the inconvenience.
The pool area was nice but not one person entered the pool in the whole week we were there because the main pool is completely shaded by the second block and therefore never got warm. People crammed into the little blocks of sun that did manage to penetrate the hotel grounds.

Drinks 1 per person only serviced til 11pm
no ice cream for kids
noise from disco till 6am in the morning this is alright if you are young but not if you just want a quiet relaxing holiday.
food in restaurant was ok in the mornings but tea time you had to mix and match. lost about half a stone in weight due to food being the same all the time.
i may go back to this hotel but not all inclusive and a room away from the traffic and disco.

| said: we stayed all inclusive and never again, we could only get drinks from a bar at the end of the hotel and only one at a time, you could only go back for another after 15mins and could not get more than one, so if you are a couple you both had to go, the drinks were only served in plastic beakers, even inside.the ba closed at 11pm. they did have snacks in the same bar, but beware, they are only 2 slices of bread no butter, suppose to be toasted!!!! they were not nice!!! and only cake for afternoon snack. the food was ok in the restaurant, but as in most hotels, it was very repepative. the rooms were kept clean, but we had to ask for towels on a couple of days, as the maid took the dirty ones but never left clean ones and you could be waiting a long time for them to arrive. some of the hotel staff were ok, but others very abrupt and not nice, unless you were german or spanish. the entertainment was ok. if you like bingo or was a child. quite central for the shops and night entertainment. i wouldnt visit this hotel again unless i was self catering as there are lots of nice restaurants and bars all round.

We arrived at airport and were told to go across the road to the bus marked E. Got on the bus and there were no reps. The driver didnt speak english and the driver didnt tell us which hotel we were going to next we just had to look to see if it was ours then get off.
Checked in and the people in reception clearly didnt know anything about manners and were arogant. Got to our room and we were greeted by cockroaches. Then we noticed that our rooms were single beds with no way of putting them together.
Checked the booking form and it clearly stated 1double room with 1 double bed.
Went back to reception adn they said it wasnt possible as no rooms in the hotel contained double beds.
Not happy but went back to the room. Went out for dinner then reutrned to the hotel and went to bed.
3AM we were then woken up by 2 boys next door slamming doors and smashing bottles and glasses
Complained the next morning and asked to move rooms but they wouldnt let us.
Next night same thing woken up from 3am onwards. Then another group of boys moved into the room next to us the other side and they kept us up. We had to wear earplugs for the remainder of the holiday.
Security didnt give a toss either.
Because the sun only shines on one part of the ground by the pool everyone crams in the sunloungers over hte sunny part and you cant move.
There was a sign saying if you have a late flight you can reserve your room for the entire day so you dont have to get kicked otu at 10 then wait around all day. Every day since we arrived we kept asking to reserve our room and they kept saying oh you'll have to come back tomorrow and ask -every day we returned and asked and wer told the same thing until thursday night they told us no way not possible

| said: Warning - Just arrived back from Carry on Columbus.
Booked 1 weeks all inclusive, what a Joke. You were allowed one drink per person from a poorly stocked bar. Staff were very rude. Hot drinks were served in plastic cups. Our wrist bands were cut off at breakfast and we didnt depart until 8pm. We were not allowed anything to eat or drink after 12pm.
Our room was absolutly filthy, after 20 hours of complaining to the Thomson reps and the Hotel we cleaned the room ourselves from the cleaning trolley which is left in the reception area all week.
You will be okay if you are 18 - 30 going to this hotel, but families beware you will get no sleep from these partygoers returning from their night out, usually between 3 - 6am.
The brochure fails to mention that the Hotel is open air and therfore you have to battle through the cockroaches on the landings to get to your room.
Wouldnt go back to Columbus if it was free!!!!!!!!!

On arriving at the hotel at 1.40am it seemed nice the room looked ok. On closer look next morning bathroom was dirty floor had sand everywhere and the bath had hairs in from the last guests in the room, when I spoke to reception about this the man did not care and said it was how it was and that was that. We had gone all incluisive what a waste of money, first night my partner went to bar to get us and drink and got told he had to use another bar at the back of the hotel so he went down and came back with a face like thunder, after he had waited 15 mins to be served as only one member of staff wotking he had been told it was one drink per person so I then had to go and wait another 15 mins to be served, once I was served it tasted the drink and it was a little to strong so I asked for a little more coke and got told it was 1 drink every 15 mins and to go back then. By this time I was thinking but we are all inclusive. As to say we did not stay in the hotel of a night again we found a little bar just down the road.
In the two weeks there we never had a full nights sleep as people always jumping in the pool between 3-5am shouting screaming and having sex..
This may sound bad but for 6 out of 14 nights we had no hot water and when I spoke to reception I was told it was beacause everyone went for a shower at the same time and the hotel could not supply the water...
ALL IN ALL THE WORST HOLIDAY EVER WOULD NEVER GO BACK EVEN IF IT WAS FREE...

The noise was unbearable in the night with idiots running up and down the corridors slamming doors, shouting and screaming, smashing windows, having sex in the pool, its not what we wanted from a family holiday that we had saved all year for.
The rooms were dirty and the staff were rude. We went for breakfast one morning in the cafe next door and these thugs started fighting right next to my 2 kids.
I WILL NEVER BOOK IN THE COLUMBUS EVER AGAIN SO IF YOU WANT A NICE FAMILY HOLIDAY DONT BOOK THE COLUMBUS.

We were not supplied with towels in our room, despite our constant request. Noise going on all night from outside traffic, disco, arriving guests, and guests returning from late night pubs ect; Was glad to get home for a good nights sleep.
Some staff members are ill mannered and down right rude. Tried the meals for 2 nights, and wished we'd never bothered - slop!!
Entertainment was very very amature. We will never return to this 3* rated hotel.

The Spanish lady who does water polo with you is fantastic when you meet her you will know what I mean. The pool is really clean and its large which was good as it is a large hotel.
I would go again and probably go all inclusive. There is not as much noise as everyone makes out, so it shoudn't really bother you. I would go again. Lisa (21)

No major problems with the hotel's cleanliness although the towels and sheets only got changed once! Oh and even though we didnt see any we heard a lot of other guests complaining about cockroaches.
This hotel would be an excellent location if all we wanted to do was go out on the lash every night because it is very close to the major nightlife. A couple of nights we were woken up by loud groups returning in the early hours of the morning. During the day we wanted to go to the beach but it was a good half-hour walk away - not easy in that heat!
Reception and restaurant staff were friendly but we had major complaints about the maids! Laughing, joking and singing echoed in the corridors at about 7am every morning!!
All in all i had an enjoyable holiday and would consider coming back. However i would not recommend it to families as it has a young and lively atmosphere.

We found many of the areas shabby and in need of refurbishment.
The sunbeds and outside tables never seemed to be cleaned from one day to the next.
The staff at reception were unhelpful and the entertainment was poor.
As we were self catering we did not use the restaurant but had previously heard not to go half board as the food was not too good.
The hotel is on a busy road so is quite noisy but we did like the central location for walking to either Torviscas or Los Cristianos.
We visit Tenerife every year but will not be using this hotel again.

The rooms that we were allocated were overlooking a main road that was constantly busy day and night which was VERY noisy!!
The food at the hotel was very basic, we ended up eating out of the hotel most of the time. Christmas dinner was a nightmare, they only did one sitting for appox 500 people, it was a buffet so 500 people all trying to get turkey at the same time just didnt work, we ended up leaving and going else where for Xmas dinner.
We didn't see much of the entertainment as it didn't start until 11pm - far to late when people have children.
We have been to this hotel before and enjoyed our stay but the hotel has really changed and gone down hill so would not return.

We booked an apartment as we had our daughter with us and was place on the 5th floor on the corner of the main road. As soon as we walked in the room it was dark and the noise from the road was terrible. I refused to unpack our cases as there was no way I could stay in this room and especially to celebrate Christmas. I went straight to reception who would not allocate another room until the next day even though people were arriving every few minutes they just did not want to know.
After speaking to the the rep she said all the apartments are in the tower blocks and the studios are in the middle so be aware that the two tower blocks on the main road all experience a high degree of road noise and screaming ambulances. However the next day we were moved over to the oposite tower block with a pool view, this was slightly better until we put our heads down for a nap before going out just to be wakened by the noise of the basketball court which was under our apartment. There is no doubt its pot luck which room you are allocated and even the rep agreed therefore I will not be paying for a pot luck holiday any more.
This Hotel has lost its flare!!!

The reps were very poor. There were germans staying at the hotel, and they were from a special school. My daughter was flashed at through the window, and the reps sat and laughed. It meant that a 16 year old girl had to be escorted at all times. The rep did not offer to help or anything.
I cannot complain about the food, although if the kids wanted to dine at a different time to us they couldnt as they had to check us all in as a group.
The drinks were one at a time.
It had to be the worst ever all inclusive. It restricted us all the time.I have been on many others and enjoyed the experience, even came home with money in my pocket, but not this time.I would not travel back again to this hotel.

The only thing that spoilt the holiday for me is that we were allocated a room on the 4th Floor facing the main road.
At night this road is used by Taxis (Who toot their horns constantly) Ambulances with thier sirens going (Hospital is just up the road by the Football Stadium) and in the basement of the Columbus is the Spanish Social Club. When they spill out at about 3 - 4 AM make so much noise !!
Take ear plugs with you just in case you end up in Romm 408 or any of the rooms facing the road.
This is my only moan,The hotel is great and the staff are good, cleaners done a fantastic job !!.

| said: After visitng the Columbus early this year we decided to go back in September, however we upgraded to a 1 bed apartment for the extra space. We were put into the new part of the complex which to our horror we spent the nights lying in bed listening to ambulances screaming past every few minutes to the hospital based at the back of the complex.
We could not open the windows due to the road noise and the temperature of the room was unbearable. We asked to be moved which they down graded us to a studio at a cost so be warned the extra paid for the upgrade was wasted money.
We enjoyed the rest of the holiday as we did back in March, we could not fault the staff and facilites however it may not be worth visiting this hotel again!

| said: We stayed on a half board basis, purely because it was cheaper than self catering! It is beyond me why when we had an apartment anyway! Our apartment was spotlessly clean and modern, having just been refurbished. Everything was in working order and we were very pleased with it. The hotel was clean everywhere and maid service was 7 days a week.
The pool was good, despite being very cold, even with the sun on it all day. Breakfast was good everyday, but the evening meal left a lot to be desired! We tended to eat out a lot in the evening as there were a lot of good restaurants in Americas and Cristianos.
Staff were friendly and helpful, which is more than what the Thomson reps were.
We only saw one nights entertainment, which was the hypnotist, who was very good. That was the only time it was packed, in the whole two weeks we were there.
The hotel was in a good location, and we would visit again in the future.

We did have a little bit of trouble with ants but we told the maid straight away and she got on to it within 5 minutes.
The only thing which disappointed me was that the water in the pool was quite dirty.
It was in the perfect place for everything not to close and not to far.
The staff were brilliant, boys were making a row and the security guard was straight up there to tell them about their noise level. We hung a welsh flag out on our balcony and were told to take it down!
Entertainment was brill loved the hypnotist!
Definitely visiting the hotel again!!

The hotel was exceptionally clean the rooms were cleaned to a high standard.
The entertainment was of a good standard.
Certain parts of the hotel are very noisy so book rooms on the quiet side there are two blocks so request away from bar.
The food was basic not much choice for desserts satisfactory though. There is a lovely roof terrace unfortunately this was not open due to seasonal works.
You have to get up early for the sunbeds we were up by 8am all gone! the best is the whole hotel is non smoking
great!
The Thomson tours are very expensive and as usual it is cheaper to go out and about yourself on the bus etc.

| said: On arrival at "Columbus"for the fourth time, we were given an apartment overlooking the pool area which to say the least is noisy. The apartment was very basic and although the cleaner assured us it was spotless, I'm afraid our views were very much the opposite. The towels were smelly and not clean, the room decor was not expected off a 3*hotel, so I complained to the reception, after arguing for ten minutes she eventually gave us room 160. It was slightly better, but still not the rating expected, the toilet seat was broken, fortunately the maid from the first apartment gave us lovely clean towels. The sink and taps were filthy,to prove a point, if anyone gets 160 look
under the mixer, my initials are in the soapy scum.
The foyer and bar area were spotless, and staff [with the
exception of one lady wearing glasses] were very friendly and helpful.
The dining room was very clean and well set out, the food, not a lot of choice. Some nights it was very good ,other nights it was not so good, the plates on entering were cold and in my opinion should have been next to the salad bar,not thehot food servery. The homemade bread was delicious, the breakfast was always first class, no complaints there, the dining room staff were absolute gems, helpful in every way.
The entertainment was on very late at night, much too late for couples with kiddies, and not very entertaining, except for the Spanish girl who organised quite a lot of the games, and bingo. She was a good laugh, and good with the kids.
We first came to the Columbus in 1994 then it was a beautiful clean and well organised aparthotel now it has lost its charm and attraction, we are sorry we had to leave this time with very bad feelings,we will not be going back again.
In our honest opinion we have stayed in better 2*hotels.
The hotel is well situated for all the bars and clubs and nightlife las Americas has to offer, this hotel is not suitable for older couples expecting a quiet rest, and it sits on a quite steep hill, not handy for people in wheelchairs, and last but not least, book your sunbed at 03.am in the morning, or you've had it.

| said: We put together our own holiday and booked this accommodation as a late deal through Thomson, we had three apartments.
Upon arrival at approx 8.30pm check in was much easier than had been expected and reception staff were efficient and polite and we had the keys to our rooms within minutes.
All three rooms were clean and well equipped and the maid service was daily and to a good standard, they even did what little washing up was left around. Two of our apartments were on the front road and did suffer from traffic noise the third apartment in the rear block was much quieter.
We had booked the apartments on a self catering basis but seeing a notice in reception offering half board at 10.99 euro per day if three or more days were booked we went for this option for three days. The food was mediocre.
The Columbus is in a great location with a large variety of eating places and nightlife within a few minutes walking distance, beaches are also not so far away. Should you wish to go further afield taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced.
The bar and restaurant staff were always efficient and polite. We didn't see any of the entertainment so can't comment.
We hired a car and found that at this time of year parking outside the apartments was never a problem.

| said: Just back from a fabulous 4 night break. The hotel was spotless with a great bunch of cleaning staff our maid was just a darling kept our room so nice.
The reception staff were friendly and on hand if you had to ask anything. We didn't stay in for the entertainment but did hear alot of people saying that the it was very good.
Pool areas were really nice with lots of space for sunbeds even though the weather was excellent we tended mostly to only lie for an hour - my husband did play a couple of games - rifle shooting and killer pool and enjoyed these.
Our room was on the road side and I do agree it can be very noisy - tended not to get to bothered with it as we were only over for a short time but I would say it could get to you after a while - try and ask for a room away from the road.
We really liked the location as it had plenty round about and only about 5/10 mins from the strip - would probably not have ventured here if had not been in this location but found the bars and restuarants excellent - would defo come back to the hotel as excellent value for money and great location. You can eat out as cheap and as dear as you like.
There is a georgeous fish restaurant on the front can't remember its name but the fish is to die for we found a bar/restaurant called Montana just across from the City Centre shopping centre it was great for breakfast and beleive it or not was only 2.75 euros this included your tea or coffee.
The bars etc right across and down from the apartments are all in competition for prices - we tried most of them and really found the Carriages Bar the best. Gordon the owner really made you feel welcome and took the time to acknowledge you. Give it a try and see for yourselves you'll not be dissappointed.

| said: I posted a review earlier this year having visited the Columbus on couples and family holidays many times.
Our June holiday was spoiled by Thomson using the hotel as a Freestyle (18-30's) base even though they dont advertise it as such.
We like to party and have no objection to anyone having a good time but you simply cant successfully mix family/couples holidays with 18 30's. After initially saying we'd never go back we decided to give it another try at a time of year when hopefully Freestyle clientele would be back in England.
I hope the many other "ordinary" holiday makers who insisted they too wouldn't return did like wise because it was blissfull again. No 5am screaming, swearing and furniture throwing.
The food was better than on some visits but not as good as on others, a bit more choice would be welcome. Both the takeaways served good lunches at fair prices Public areas nicely furnished and clean as were the well equipped apartments.
We like where the Columbus is located as it is only a short walk to the beach and bars but far enough away to be quiet at night ( which made the decision to introduce Freestyle even more unfathomable)Plenty of sunbeds From the chambermaids to the barstaff to the dining room waitress who remembered from our previous visits what we drank at dinner they were all helpfull and friendly.
Typical hotel entertainment but if that doesn't suit theres the whole of Las Americas and Los Christianos to choose from!
We will certainly visit the Columbus again - out of Teenage Tourettes Syndrome Season and have just two suggestions for Thomson - Sack the marketing genius whos' idea it was to potentially ruin a fabulous family hotel, lose a proven repeated client base for the fickle summer youth trade and concentrate on the couples/family market - or turn the hotel over to Freestyle and be honest in advertising the fact.

Cockroaches in room as all over Tenerife, expensive hotels included.
Pool was OK and easy to get a sunbed in October but the area around the pool was dirty with many fag-ends and litter, even used condoms.
Open plan of the hotel meant that any noise fromtraffic or other floors travel throughout the hotel, but it wasn't too noisy.
Entertainment was very amateurish and lasted about half an hour very late on.
In a good position, plenty of bars and eating places, and close to main centres, Veronicas and Santiago.
I would use this hotel again but I would look elsewhere first.

| said: All in all not a bad hotel. Clean rooms, maid service daily (our maid liked to make swans etc.. out of our hand towels and roses out of toilet tissue).
On arrival we found a cockroach in our room and when I complained they moved me to another room straight away. Unfortunately cockroaches are part of life in Tenerife. You can purchase another key card from reception for two euros so you can leave lights on at night (cockroaches only come out in the dark).
The pool was lovely and very clean.
There were games daily, such as killer pool, water polo and rifle shooting.
Snacks around the pool were ok but there were plenty of eating places outside that were great.
The Piramedes just along the road on the opposite side does the best full English breakfast for only 3 euros.
The resort itself was ok. Not the best I have stayed in. If its a late night drink you want, the Jersey cow has live singing every night till 2 and the Anchor on the corner opens till 4am. the staff in both places are very friendly.
Would visit again if nothing else available but would not be a place I would go again and again. It is about 15 -20 minute walk to the heart of all the shopping etc. So it is a good location. Also Netto supermarket next door to hotel that sells nearly everything at near enough the same as uk prices. So no need to take anything with you.

The one time we went to the snack bar it was good. The bar staff are especially friendly and the prices are economical. The atmosphere is very chilled out and relaxed.
The staff at the hotel were helpful, the first night we arrived our room was flooded and we had no electricity. But within 20 minutes, the reps Perry and Alex had it all sorted.
Couldn't of asked for a better location, as its walking distance to the bars and nightclubs but far enough away so its not noisey.
We cannot wait to go back, and would definately reccommend the hotel to anyone. The reps and the nightlife were definately 5 star!!!

The hotel is a friendly one on the whole but although they say NO SUNBEDS ARE TO BE RESERVED, we found them all taken very quick and most of the time people left towels on them and went off for hours.
The maids and the Thompson reps where very helpful.
The main roads (which surround you) are very dangerous to cross, you need to be really careful when you cross over because we found taxis will stop for you but the locals won't.
There is some fantastic places to eat near by, the hotel food we found was poor.

| said: Upon arrival when we came to check in the hotel did say we hadn't booked! Panic! But, it turned out in the end. The guy behind reception did give us a key at first that someone had checked out of, so it hadn't been cleaned! But, the people behind the reception were really sorry for there mistake.
We were half board, so we didn't expect to be getting a kitchen and fridge in the room, so we were quite impressed. Our room was located on the busy road side. So it was quite noisy during the night. So, my advise, if you get a room on that side of the building, ask to be moved. Especially if you have kids.
As for the freestyle holidays that were also there at the same time. They weren't much of a problem. Just having a good time! Like everyone else.
If you want to stay by the poolside, get down early!! We went down to the beach so it was ok for us! There is a bbq beside the pool we noticed, which looked good.
The bar staff, the restaraunt staff and reception staff were always happy to help. The cleaners cleaned every other day. And always changed your towels. So all in all that side is great.
The food was ok. Matt enjoyed it more than me. Paella for me, yuk! I don't like it anyway. There is always loads to eat and always and english option. Breakfasts were always nice. Yum! Fill up in the morning before you head out! Then if need be just grab a sandwich during the day.

| said: We have visited the Columbus several times, as a couple and for a family holiday with children. The experience was spoiled by this year by Thompson using the hotel as a Freestyle (18-30's type holidays) base, despite the Columbus not featuring in its Freestyle brochure and no mention made in their main brochure.
The noise all night was horrendous, ghetto blasters, people and furniture in the pool, screaming, arguing, and swearing. Other guests, including ourselves, families with children and elderly people had several nights of their holiday spoiled and only after 2 pages of the Receptions Complaints book were filled with complaints on just one night Security finally acted!
This is such a pity because the Columbus is usually a family friendly hotel with a safe atmosphere, a great location good public and apartment facilities and much improved food. Whilst the hotel itself should ensure their security staff provide an efficient service, as has been the case on our previous visits, Thomson are irresponsible for trying to mix Freestyle with family holidays.
It appeared Freestyle were thrown out on this occasion by a furious hotel manager, and if this remains the case we will certainly be back.

We did not eat much in the hotel but went to the snack bar a couple of times and it was really nice.
There is also a supermarket on site with everything you need.
If you have a night time flight, there is a shower room by the pool which is very clean and has hairdryers so you don't have to pay 30 euros to hire out your room if all you want is a shower

| said: When we arrived at the hotel we were checked in fairly quickly and allocated 2 one bedroom apartments on the top floor of the first building facing out onto the main road. I must admit after reading reports I was concerned that it would be too noisy to sleep at night but I had 7 excellent nights sleep!
The apartment was a fair size and was equipped with everything we could possibly need. We sat on the balcony most evenings when we got home and although there was traffic noise and the odd siren we just got used to it and I hardly noticed it by the end of the week.
We only ate at the hotel snack bar one lunch time but the food was lovely and the service was very good.
We didn't deal much with the hotel staff but the bar people were friendly and on the 2 occasions we needed to go to reception they were helpful enough.
We went out in the evenings so didn't see the hotel entertainment.
The hotel has a supermarket attached to it which did really nice warm fresh bread in the mornings. There is also a Netto attached if you turn left out of the hotel and go left at the first corner you will see it.
If you turn left out of the hotel you are going towards the lively part of the resort. There are plenty of places to eat along the street. We tried Linacres a couple of times which was quite nice and good value for money. If you turn right out of the hotel and then right at the next corner and follow it down you will come to the beach with the lighter sand which has some nice places to eat and the view is better.
I would recommend doing the Loro Parque trip as it is excellent there. We also did the island tour which was good and we did the boat trip which would have been excellent but 3 out of 4 of us got sea sick and spent 4 hours lying down feeling sick. Saying that we did manage to stand long enough to see the whales and dolphins which made it worth all the feeling ill!
All in all we had a great holiday the hotel is in a good location. If I was to visit Tenerife again I would use this hotel.

| said: The Hotel Columbus is very dated the rooms have had a facelift but lack something special.
All facilities were there but our kettle was a bit touchy. The beds were awful especially the pull out bed which had a very thin mattress. The cleanliness of this place was fairly good apart from the floor which was very dirty, they needed some hot water and scrubbing, as your feet were black after a few minutes walking on them. The pay TV was great BBC1 and Sky Premium Movies 1 however the satellite signal often went away whilst you were in the middle of a program!!
The worst complaint I have about this hotel is the noise and disturbance from the heavy traffic outside our room we were on the front of the hotel and the junctions is one of the business and noisiest I have even heard. Sirens from the nearby police and hospital went constantly. Also it may have been unfortunate for us but we had the builders in. All over the hotel there was work going on but worst were the men putting in drains below our balcony (we have complained). After several small problems with the door we needed a new lock which was promptly fixed and a wardrobe didn’t open which was also fixed. Getting back to the floors the cleaner didn’t clean in the corners and there were some really nice bits left their!! Cockroaches - we only had 1 but that was bad enough. The linen and towels and beds were changed everyday top marks for that.
The supermarkets nearby were stocked full of goodies especially the bakery on site yummy.
The food in the resort was fantastic and so was the weather.
However we had to have our doors shut all the time because of the noise!!!

Maid came in every day and did a brill job. We had an apartment in the first block, which is on the busy noisy street but it didnt stop us from sleeping, and since we were on the top floor we had a great view of the mountains. The balcony was a good size to sit out and relax.
The weather was great, we went up onto the roof of the second block where you can sunbathe in peace and there are two jaccuzzis there which only cost two euros for 10-15 mins. There are plenty of places to sunbathe and plenty else to do if you want to get out of the sun for a while, like the gym. The sauna, aerobics, or if you are like us a cool drink at the bar!!
We just went to the buffet breakfast one morning, it was good considering you can eat as much as you like for 5 euros each. The staff were friendly and helpful, just the security guards are very strict so dont misbehave! We didnt like the entertainment much, but I think most hotel entertainment is the same. We went down the street to the bars, The Jersey Cow and The Brewers Droop were two we liked, we stayed away from' veronicas strip', too old for that I think, but down the ' patch ' area there are a lot more good fun bars etc for all ages.
Lots of places to eat right beside the hotel, you can get cooked breakfast for as little as two euros. We would reccomend just round the corner beside the taxi rank, The Bohemian Garden for steaks etc, and across the street the Pekin Garden for chinese food, 5.70 euros for three course and a drink.
We would definately come back to this hotel and will take our three boys as I think even they wouldn't find anything to complain about, and for teenagers thats really saying something!!

We got checked in pretty quickly by the really helpful staff, we stayed on the 3rd floor facing the road. The room was great, nothing special but everything we needed. The road was noisy, Spanish people do like beeping their horns! You do get used to it in the end and I didn't notice it, we sat on the balcony and laughed at them trying to drive!
We didn't try out the food or entertainment, we went out every night, and the hotel is in prime position about 2 mins walk away from Veronica strip (great for drunken nights out).
It's worth having a walk around the hotel, it has a laundry service, gym, beauty spa with Jacuzzi and sauna, hairdressers; they are all hidden away around the complex!!! We went in the Jacuzzi and sauna one day when it rained, 7 euros for an hour, the girl at the desk let us stay in pretty much all day as she had no more customers, was great!
The staff are so helpful, reception staff helped us out a lot with directions and gave advice on where to go and what trips to go on.
We had maid service everyday and our maid was ever so sweet, she knocked on the door every morning at 9:30, and every morning we were still in bed hungover so she knew to come back in the afternoon, she also did all of our washing up for the week - star!!
It is worth renting out the deposit box, we did and put all of our passports etc in there, as I had my phone stolen when coming out of Edwards, having that put my mind at ease with the rest of my belongings!
All in all we had a fantastic holiday, would recommend it to anyone, especially the hotel!
One little tip... make sure you go to O’Malley’s Karaoke bar we went there every night, was a great laugh, talk to James outside to get you cheap drinks and Lisa inside to request your song!!! They do a litre of vodka red bull for 7 euros - bargain!!

| said: The brochure said maid service 5 days a week, but we got one every day, and she was brilliant. Clean towels daily.
We heard others complaining about the standard of food, particularly dinner, but no experience of this.
Location of the hotel very convenient for supermarkets (a good one attached), but proximity to the hospital resulted in frequent ambulance sirens.
The hotel is more than four floors as per your description. The reception block is five stories, and the opposite block is six stories with a sun terrace and two Jacuzis on the top. The area between the two blocks (at ground level) is the swimming pool, and in January never gets the sun.
I cannot speak highly enough of the staff. I had to go to hospital for the last three days of my holiday and they were so helpful and sympathetic to my wife. Even let us keep our room past the 12 noon deadline to wait for the airport transport at no cost.

| said: The hotel is very dated, in the 70's it was prob cool!
The room was basic and the beds in the lounge very uncomfortable.
Pool was freezing - no sun on it whatsoever - the smaller pool out back was slightly warmer, but the filters were full of cockroaches, and we never saw the pool being cleaned.
The tap in our bathroom ran dark brown sludge at different times of the day!
After 2 days in the hotel/resort my daughter contracted bacterial gastro enteritis and ended up being taken to hospital by ambulance and put on IV drip for anti biotics - we left the country before the cause could be discovered.
Reception very helpful in calling doctor, and the Spanish doc and ambulance crew excellent. Check your insurance - the hospital would not start treatment till they had contacted our insurance company to check our cover! Whilst they did this my daughter was vomiting in A&E and passing out!
Would not return, because of our unfortunate experience.

| said: The hotel was very clean at all times and our rooms was cleaned daily. We stay self catering so we didn't try the food.
The hotel is located on a busy road, the noisy from this was quite loud when you where trying to sleep. The hotel staff where very helpfull we had no problems with them, we only stayed the weekend so didn't really have a chance to sample the entertainment.
We would visit this hotel again, but not to sure about the resort.

| said: We were very worried about staying here after some of the reviews we had read. First impressions were excellent the place was very clean indeed. There were always staff cleaning throughout the day.
Rooms need a good make over but with the lovely weather outside you hardly spend much time in there.(if booking demand the second block with a pool view)The bars are very good fair prices with a good choice of drinks for both adults and little ones.
Although we were self catering we spoke to many people who were half board and they were eating out all the time (I'll say no more) The hotel is in an ideal location for all kinds of tourists on your door step down the road you have all your British bars which have nightly entertainment or a 5 minute walk your down veronicas so the starco pleasure island complex.
I found all the staff very helpful and friendly even the security were chatty. I will be returning here next year for 2 weeks and I', looking forward to it al ready. The hotel also sells trips ECT see Vicky at the second reception she is very helpful indeed prices are cheap as well......

| said: Myself, my Partner and daughter have just come back from a weeks stay at the Coumbus. It was my daughter's first trip abroad and my first trip to the Island and I've never enjoyed a family holiday so much.
The hotel itself was clean with friendly staff although I didn't encounter security staff. More importanatly the pool, where Lauren spent the majority of the time (along with feeding the Hotel's stray cat problem , which were very friendly) was clean and safe. On our last night we went to the Hotel's live snake show and I managed to arrange for Lauren to be the "helper" on stage; which she loved.
All in all a good hotel and will be definately returning soon!!

| said: The hotel was nice and clean with fresh sheets and towels everyday.
We stayed on the 6th floor facing the pool and it was very quiet at all times of the day, the pool was nice and was cleaned every single day, I personally found my stay in Tenerife far far too hot but my girlfriend didn't mind so much.
Overall a nice hotel in a nice resort but I wouldn't return because of the heat, I took a digital thermometer it was 28c at night and peaked at 34c during the day inside the room.
If you can stand the heat I'd recommend it to anyone!
Although don't try the hotel restaurant!!!! its really poor, we paid for Half Board and only went for breakfast once, it was terrible.
The beach with a wave break (so you can swim without getting pounded by waves) is about 10 mins walk away from the hotel.

| said: After reading several reports on this hotel, being a bit of a control freak, i was a bit worried about the hotel room, thinking it was going to be a pit! However when we arrived it was fine, the hotel reception is very helpful and we checked in quite quickly. There are 2 lifts for your suitcases in each hotel and stairs. We were on the second floor facing the street, and while it was a little noisy, personally it didnt really bother either of us, and the view went out to the sea front, so we got to see the sunset every night, i think it was just as noisy towards the pool anyway. We had no problems with sleeping, it wasnt that noisy. Our tip is to either hire a fan when you get there or take a small 10" one with you, thats what we did and it was a godsend! it allowed us to close the door at night and not die in the heat, and also allowed any noise there was to be shut out, and stopped us being bitten by any nasties! The maid came every day and cleaned everywhere!, although i did polish up a bit with some cleaning wipes i had with me. The pool was quite nice too, there were loads of sunbeds, and while most were taken up by middday when we emerged, you can still find the odd one lurking about. My advice on excursions, go to the reps and see what they've got but before you hand over any cash, check out what the hotel has too offer too, e.g. the waterpark was 4 euros cheaper entry with the colombus compared to thompson, and you dont get anything different or better cos you have to make your own way there and back, and before you spend all your cash, check out the 2nd reception of the hotel, cos there are some really cool things to do that you cant get anywhere else, like underwater scuba jet ski things...
Personally i dont know what anyone else was on about when they moaned about the hotel, we had o problems whatsoever, and if you dont have anything they will always get it for you, one tip though take a can opener with you cos they only have the stab kind.

| said: Hotel was amazing!! Had the best time ever! Went in August 2005 and the hotel lived up to my expectations.
Studio rooms were small but equipped with everything that you needed. Kettle, toaster basic cooking equipment. Bathroom had great shower and maids cleaned every day and left clean towels
Balcony although relatively small had a great view - sea view, pool view and mountain view all in one!
Did hear the occasional siren but passed quickly other than that you didn't hear much noise at all
About 5 mins walk from shops and nightlife is amazing. Bar staff were really friendly and entertainment was great. The buildings themselves were clean and lifts never broke down.
Reps were best every!!! Freestyle!
