| said: All in all a great holiday - but entertainment seriously lacking.
Okay if you have children under six, but you can only watch the little darlings for so long. After childrens time the music changes to pumping music more suited to 18-30 ibiza until midnight the clientel being mostly families and middle age drove people inside to escape the noise.
Leaving a handful to enjoy the so called music. The same when trying to relax around the pool during the day the same pumping music is played.
However a few visiting artists broke the mould a few nights.

| said: We were really impressed with the friendliness of all the staff. On arrival we were greeted well & apologised that our room wasn`t available until later, however it was 11am. So we went over to Raco beach, which was only a few minutes away.
The room was very clean and was kept tidy on our 2 week stay there.
The buffet restaurant was excellent, catering for anyone.
The entertainment was a bit poor though, I think it was coming to the end of season, as we got told the hotel was closing soon for the season.
A very enjoyable stay here.

| said: If you are requiring a quiet holiday then this is not the hotel for you, our 1st room was over the pool area directly above the entertainment speakers, which burst into action at 10am and continued till midnight, no chance of a seista then.
After three days of complaining to the hotel staff our holiday rep got involved and we changed room, this was a beautifully peaceful room until the building work began at the site up the road, we think the hotel staff were having a joke!
Breakfast was tolerable, after the 1st night we ate out across the road at the Bowling, a lovely pub with good food (superb paella) excellent staff and great entertainment.
The only good thing about this hotel was its proximity close to the beach (which was excellent) and bus stops.
This is Not a hotel we will return to

We found a good choice of food with full english, fruit, pancakes etc of a morning and a selection of meat and fish dishes on an evening also pasta ,chips even fish fingers and chicken nuggets some days.
The entertainment was basic but our kids loved it. Ideal for 8 to 9 year olds and younger. We spent a lot of time around the hotel as the few shops and bars were a bit of a walk so if we returned we would probably go all inclusive.

The food was repetative as was the taped music, but the hotel staff, waiters and maids were very pleasant and very helpfull, me and my mum were the only 2 english people in the hotel but we was made welcome by all.

| said: The first night we arrived there we were given a downstairs room overlooking the pool, it was extremely dark and dingy. The ceiling had black mouldy marks on it, coming down the walls. My child locked himself in the bathroom within 5 minutes, very unchildfriendly. I complained and was handed a key to another room which had only one double bed for 3 of us and the walls were covered in black mildew and no balcony. I soon told them how disgusted I was. I have never had the nerve to complain before but it was the first time I was on holiday with my child and felt I had to. We had to stay in our room that night but was given a better room the next day, much brighter, still a bit shabby but like the Ritz compared to the last one. Can't understand why some people got great rooms and others got dumps.
I paid full price for the holiday, even my child was not free, so to say I was absolutely disappointed with Falcon/First Choice, is an understatement.

| said: Stayed in this hotel in early September 04.
The hotel was quite clean, but the house keeping was on a whole quite basic.
The food was very bad, the choice on offer was typically Spanish made to be British (not very good) the entertainment was very poor it sounded as if they had only one CD that they played over and over again.
The drink prices seem to change every time you buy a round, but we did manage to find some lovely places if you just venture out of the hotel.
The Bees Knees across the road was lovely very friendly staff and good food, 10/10.
Will not be coming back again!!

| said: Was very happy with the 5 days we were there, great location for the beach just 5 mins walk away. Pool was OK but more for young families, entertainment looked a bit basic but there was a lot of it and it appeared the kids loved it (did not stay at the hotel much during evening or day).
Food I found to be very good, alot of choices which meant something could be found for any taste. The only think I found strange was that you had to pay for water with your dinner! Prices of wine was good, 6 Euro's a bottle and it was OK. Breakfast was OK again many choices.
The rooms were fine, clean and cool, the weather was sooo hot whilst we were there.
Great location, bus stop no more than 5 mins away, Salou 1.45 Euros away and Port Aventura 1.55 Euro's away. Lots of other things to do.
I would go back!
(A safe is provided in the room - you have to ask for the key).
Staff on the desk very helpful, and finally a taxi back to Reus Airport, took about 15 mins and cost 28 Euros (a very good bus service is available about 5 euros per person used from the airport to the hotel, they even dropped us off outside the hotel)

| said: We stayed at the Sol d Or in June 2004 for two weeks. Myself my daughter and her two children. We were given ajoining rooms with a dividing door that unlocked so it was easier to keep an eye on the children rather than each adult having to sleep with one child in seperate rooms. The staff were very friendly and the chambermaids very helpful as we had a few accidents with the children and the cleaners gave us plenty of clean bedding and towels when requested. The food was plentiful catering for all nationalities. English,Irish,Welsh,French, Spanish, German, Belgium and more. We found it difficult to feed the children in the restuarant as the food was rich compaired to the diet in our country my main complaint was not enough vegetables. However the children we able to have hamburgers, chips or hotdogs at the bar if there wasnt anything palatable in the restuarant. The entertainment was appalling the first week we had english entertainers who left after a dispute with the hotel and the spanish took over but it didnt improve. The guest entertainment was good however but this was only two or three times a week and repeated each week. The whole thing comes to a close at midnight.
The hotel caters for large groups of school/college children, we had four different groups in the two weeks we were there. The irish school were a credit to there teachers but the other three schools were a bit noisy and a nuisance at times. We were told that the previous week there had been another shool party there and they caused lots of noise and problems and their teachers could not control them. We had a great fortnight maybe we were the lucky ones? I would recommend this hotel as it is situated in an ideal position but after reading another report on holiday truths about thefts in the rooms (of which we didnt have any)i would be a bit more vigilant.

| said: We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in June/July 2004 and on the first day our hotel room was robbed, leaving us without almost €500, mobile phones, wallets or duty-free cigarettes. The theft was immediately reported to the hotel reception where we were told to go to the police station- about 15 minutes away by taxi.
Our main concern (other than losing our belongings) was that because there was no evidence of the door to our room being forced in, the thief was someone who had access to a key. Outside our room was a CCTV camera so we were initially confident that the culprit would be caught and were told the next day that the police had collected the tape.
We were appalled and disgusted by the way the hotel management dealt with this incident and although we asked each day if there had been an update we heard nothing. Later during the week the manager implied that the robbery wasn’t a big deal because we had insurance!
A family we spoke with during our stay had packets of cigarettes go missing from their room while they were out and another woman was missing an expensive ankle bracelet she was positive she’d left on a table!
We made it clear as we were checking out that we were not happy with the handling of it and the lack of communication, only to be told that the cleaning staff had been called to the office to be asked about the theft earlier in the week! Of course no one is going to stand up and say they did it!
Other less major grumbles we had were the loud music, which starts at 10.30am and goes until midnight every day! No chance of getting to sleep before then if planning an early night! Also the food was pretty average and got boring after seven days- breakfast was disgusting, but lunch and dinner were slightly better with a good selection of meats, fish, salads and vegetables, although too oily for the health-conscious.
Generally Hotel Sol d’Or was clean and the bar/terrace/pool area was pleasant.
La Pineda was lovely and the beaches fantastic. We definitely would not return to this hotel and recommend other holiday- makers don’t either!
