Rooms were very small but clean, bedding and towels changed daily. Food was disgusting, it was either pork, veal or rabbit. I got food posioning and was ill for a good 2 days, been back 2 days and still recovering had to visit my GP. Spent most of every night queing at bar until in end it was to warm abd we did,nt bother using the all inclusive. Hotel staff was very grumpy and the entertainment was terrible. Pools were great!

Food was unedible, we struggled and were only there for 4 nights. People were constantly complaining at reception, however our worst problem was we did not sleep for the duration. The noise was unacceptable. Drunks in corridors most of the night, fighting and shouting. A party of students (english) on our last night taking drugs, music blaring etc etc we called security, eventually police were called - nightmare. Queues for bar were totally unacceptable, several hundred guests and only two serving. Only two drinks per person, if both went to bar someone stole your table. Staff unfriendly. Lots of "students" or young groups. Definately not going back to this hotel

Hotel cleanliness. Mattresses covered in urine and faeces stained.

Hotel food. Unedible. Food swimming in fat. Cold and no choice. All inclusive snacks left swimming in fat and on heater for hours on end.

Hotel location not far from beach. Beach full of shingles and unable to walk on.

Hotel staff rude and unhelpful. Entertainment rubbish. No music. Ideal holiday for stiff bodies not requiring nourishment or any entertainment. Like being in Beirut. All customers complained about hotel. Needs pulling down. Accommodation like something out the 1900's. I would never visit hotel again, I had to pay to move hotel and have already started my complaints procedure and only got back today. Never, ever, ever, again the most diabolical hotel in the resort. Well known to all other hotels for the hell hole it is.

It was awful. Firstly we were supposed to be located in Lloret De Mar and ended up in Calella. The food was awful and cold I spent the few days we stayed there eating chips and salad for tea and dinner and toast for breakfast. The only good thing going for this hotel was the staff were great and friendly if you were civil to them, the rooms were very basic but that’s ok as they were only for sleeping in, they were cleaned everyday we were there and the beds were made. All I can say is thank god I was only there for three days. We were told about a man who beat his wife, a mugging and a fight between the Spanish students, we also witnessed a woman attack a Spanish student whilst there. When we got back on the bus on our return journey some ladies who were on our flight on the way there were laughing and said so you ended up in Beirut then.

The hotel is reasonably clean, although I think the cleaners tended to concentrate on the visible areas, under the ceramic soap tray in our bathroom it was covered in black mould. The food is not brilliant and tends to be the same every day which gets a bit boring, salad, very few vegetables, fish or meat in various guises, chips and pasta. The chef was quite imaginative with left overs. Do not expect anything special. Reception staff friendly and helpful, bar staff work long shifts and are friendly, only two drinks per person at a time if all inclusive. Entertainment is limited - flamenco Friday, discos, live band etc rotating round. Daytime there is archery, table tennis, shooting gallery and board games. One entertainment guy who did a reasonable job. We had a lot of heavy rain and a lot of bored kids during our stay. Basicly this hotel is a bit tired, the lounge and bar areas are a bit tatty, the rooms are small we had three single beds in a double room which left very little room for manouvere! I had to push my sons bed out of the way to get at the wardrobe, which fortunately had sliding doors. Also the walls are very thin and you can hear peoples conversations quite clearly. With that said if you just want somewhere to sleep and base yourself for a couple of nights its bearable. This hotel is not for people without children or if you like peace and quiet the best description I can think of is a holiday camp. We have never had an all inclusive holiday before and to be quite honest it was cheap, all I can say is you get what you pay for. My 11 year old son liked having kids his own age to hang out with and a bit of freedom with his magic card that gave him access to all the soft drinks he could manage and allowed him to eat when he wanted while we were in the hotel. It also caters for a lot of school trips and large groups.

I have stayed in many of the Htop group hotels and this must be the worse of the lot. Firstly the noise was like being in a fairground the walls must only be about 10mm thick. The cleaners try to keep this place clean to the best they can but it's hard when what your working with is a early 1970s hotel. The place is stinking. The bed linen had all fag burns in it which they tried to blame me for although I don't smoke?

Now to the food, what can I say (Pig Swill) and cold swill at that. They said it was beef steak which turned out to be liver and pork chunks which was kidneys. All cold. I am not a fussy eater but ate so little as it was terrible that I lost 5 lbs in weight in 3 days now thats a diet for you, so all fatties who want to lose some get here quickly.

The bar staff were ok if they liked you, your vodka was poured from the bottle on the shelf which was not bad quite good infact. However if your drinks were from the spinning optics then it was russian roulette wether there would be a trace of alcohol in it at all. If the old guy serves you who looks like a fat elvis with a moustache he gives u the bottle from the shelf so u will be ok all others give from the potics which are clearly watered down drinks, I'm sure my urine had more traces of alcohol in it than the optics had.

I would go to an HTop hotel again but not this one I'm sure this will close quite soon as it is abismal. The people who rate this well either have been easily pleased or not been on many holidays. Visit the Royal Star or AmiAka as they are good hotels unlike this trash.

this hotel is appalling, when we finally arrived after a three hour transfer from girona airport we were told our rooms were not ready! even though we arrived well after 5pm, so we had to go to another hotel within the h-top group half an hour down the road. my children had not had a meal since 8am at the airport before departure. the idea that it is all inclusive is laughable, the food was cold even at the beginning of the mealtimes. we had to go out to eat most nights so we could get something decent. the only good thing i have to say about this place is that the cleaning staff on floor 7 are lovely. the rooms are cramped, the balcony had a railing round it, but enough for a young child to slip through at the bottom, so we couldn't have the door open, to let air in (as the air con doesn't work) in case my 18month daughter fell through. to lock/unlock the door from inside the room of a night is a game in itself, the key is in a holder to allow the lights to work, but if you take the key out the lights go off, try finding a keyhole in the pitch black!! the pools are not heated so even in the height of summer the water is freezing so you can only stay in for a few minutes before turning blue. the bar has a rule of only two drinks per person per serving, so to get us all a drink we all had to stand at the bar, even the kids. it states that there is a kids club (from 5-12yrs) but we couldn't find it and when we asked the staff they suddenly didn't understand what we were saying! this is a terrible hotel and i would neither recommend this hotel or any in the h-top group to any one, ever.

Booked this hotel as a last minute deal. We booked on an all inclusive basis. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. The food was ok, plenty of variety, ie salads, meat, pasta, chips etc.. Most days they had a special dish of paella or fresh fish, and a vegetarian section, plus plenty of cakes, puddings & ice cream for kids.
Bar staff were very friendly especially with the children. Maids cleaned room every day with dirty towels replaced daily.

The room slept 4 although this was quite squashed had to move bed to open balcony doors properly.

Entertainment was poor mostly geared towards spanish or older people.
Had no problems getting sunbeds (although we put towels out about 7 am)

larger pool very busy, mostly used smaller ones at front of hotel, kids could use inflatables or play with balls etc.

walls in room were very thin(could here next door arguing at night) But had a supply of ear plugs with us wich were used!!

Came to this hotel with an open mind and it really wasn't as bad as other people have reported. If you want 5 star accomodation the pay for it!!

Food was absolutely hideous and we were forced to eat out. Staff were hit and miss ranging from ones that would bend over backwards to ones that even pretended not to understand English. Guests were regularly seen having rows with staff. I had read bad reviews after booking but decided to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt. DON'T. The dining room is like a fight in a prison canteen with the food no better than slops. If you want to loose weight on your holiday then is is the place for you as only the salads were decent. Forget a sunbed by the pool unless you want to set an alarm for 4am and sneak down with the hundred other bed getters dressed in black sneaking past the guards. We had to go to the beach every day and spend on average 20 euros for 3 beds and an umbrella. The rooms were squashed but clean and the maids were very helpful. All in all though I wouldn't send my worst enemy there. Don't go near it.

This is the worst holtel I have ever stayed in. It should be no stars not 3 star. We have just arrived home and are feeling stressed, tired and need a holiday as this felt like a punishment rather than a holdiay. Had we been able to afford to come home on first day we would have, myself and children were in tears when we saw where we were staying, it was like a youth hostel for teenagers, and it was disgusting.

Main points for complaint:

Booked two family rooms - got 2 tiny rooms for 2 people in each with 2 additional camp beds squashed in

Beds jammed up against balcony door and wardrobe, all beds in a row, coudlnt access balcony unless we moved the beds and then squeezed out tiny space

This was a fire and safety hazzard!

Sheets on beds filthy and smelled of urine

Had to move furniture on top of each other in able to move

Vent in bathroom was slatted door and could access next room through this

Walls paper thin - could hear Everything even breathing from next room

Paint on doors and balcony flaking
Tiles on balcony chipped

Balcony glass seperators broken and sharp glass was a hazard especially as we have young children

7th floor allocated for family, space at bottom of balcony could mean small child could slip through, balcony very unsafe, i had nightmares of my youngest falling down off balcony, so would not let her out there

crowds of young teenagers running up and down corridors from 12.30 am untill about 5.30 am. shouting and screaming and banging on our door. we were terrified and phone in room didnt work and we couldnt go out because we were too scared we would be attacked. no security evident. This happened every night and we had no sleep.

Tv blaring at all hours from other rooms

glass at bottom of pool. and when we reported it, they didnt clean it away until next day, let people continue to use it

rude staff in dining room, allocating us dirty tables, shouting at us if we moved table an inch to get into the seat

food the worst i have had in my life, inedible

lifts for 3 people, with crowds of 10 squeezed in when i was in it

lifts filthy - covered in food and drink

only allowed 2 drinks per visit to bar, queues of 45 mins at bar with drunken teenagers

entertainment appauling

snacks limited and disgusting

hairs in food

We complained to our travel agent in the local area and they did nothing to help us, as we did to the hotel manager, but they were not interested, and refused to move us unless we paid for another hotel but we couldnt afford it.

When we checked in, the lady in front of us was complaing that she had just moved in and there were used condoms hanging from her airvent in room. She too had been put in a room for 2-3 people at max and was a party of 4. I could not understand how we could have been put in such a small room, which was not suitable for a party of 4 people, when there should only have been 2 beds in the room. We were on top of each other, and could hardly breathe, and it was a fire hazard squeezing 4 people in a room for 2!!
They cant possibly justify this, and charge 4 people for sleeping in such a room, where 2 of the beds were not even proper beds, they were camp beds. This obviously is so that they can get 4 people money in a room where 2 people are paying.

We have written to ABTA and the travel company, as they cant get away with this! Also we are more tired and stressed than we were before we went. We spent the holdiay in tears and had to eat out as the food was disgusting, and the bar over run with huge crowds of teenagers. U couldnt get in and out front entrance because of the huge crowds of teenagers. It was a very frightening experience, and would never go back even if it was free with money thrown in.

I wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy, and am sad that i had to put my family through this. We couldnt afford to come home, and nobody in hotel or resort emergency number was interested so we had no choice.

PLease, Please dont go to this hotel, as you will be very sorry.

we had looked forward to this holiday since January. We had been put in this hotel because company had double booked us it was hotel from hell. You had to wait 30mins for drink and then could only have two drinks at a time which were only small glasses.

We were all inclusive and had to go out on a night for meals because food was so bad. No choice same food everynight and it was not very hot.

Noise was really bad everynight hotel was full of young people who did not look old enough to drink running up and down corridors all night would not go to this place again and would not recommend it to anyone.

We are a couple in our mid 40`s and after reading previous comments before we departed we weren`t expecting many frills, (but we were prepared and had brought earplugs!).

The hotel resembled a 1970`s comprehensive school in style (but so did most of the other hotels in Calella), we found the staff polite and helpful and smartly dressed, they seemed to take pride in their job, which must be hard at times because a lot of the residents (mainly under 20`s) appeared to want to spend all day getting as drunk as possible.

The food was basic (chips, sausages, burgers everyday ) and usually very greasy but it was edible and filling, though very average in taste.

Most evenings there was a que at the bar but usually 5 minutes (no worse than a night down town!). The drinks weren't labelled brands but very alcoholic(more than enough for light drinkers like us!)and the staff serving took no stick from anyone trying to push in, they treat everyone the same.

The room walls were plywood and very thin! Overall a clean, well run hotel with average food, poor entertainment and loads of noisy students 5/10.

We were only there for 3 nights, 7 nights and the rating would have been lower!

I wasnt expecting much as it was a cheap last minute hol, but knew it would be 3 star, so thought it couldnt be that bad!!!!.

We was all inclusive, food was ok, but never ate dinner there, looked the same everyday, there was only two toasters, which was a nighmare, you would wait a very long time for toast.

Getting drinks always involved a long wait, there was only ever 2 staff, and you are only aloud 2 drinks per person, and the beer is not even half a pint,25 min wait sometimes,

The hotel staff did seeem to try and keep clean, but was an endless task as alot of people liked to make a lot of mess,

there was alot of students staying in the hotel, and they caused, a lot of noise and trouble, which the hotel didnt seem to be bothered about,
We only went for fout days, and it rained 2 and half days, which made the holiday worse, as there really is knothing to do.

The walls to the rooms are very thin, so when next door go to the toilet it sounds like there in your bathroom, and we had very noisy neighbours, so came home from this holiday sleep deprived,

Staying in this hotel was the longest four days of my life.

Entertainment was very very poor,

Staff always look moody they never smile, not very helpful.

I would never return.

I got a cheap deal so wasn't expecting much, and it was just as well. I asked for a room on lower floor as friend has mobility problems, and we were given one on the 5th floor as the first 4 floors were taken up by students, who partied hard all day and night, and rampaged up and down throwing food, being sick and knocking on our doors, an trying to get in other guests rooms, until 5am most mornings!!

The rooms were clean but really tiny. The walls are literally paper thin, and you can hear literally everything going on in surrounding rooms, and when I say everything I mean it, from a breath, cough to other bodily functions.

The TVs blast out and can't be turned down as there is no remote.

The maids work extremely hard and the rooms are cleaned, and fresh towels n loo rolls provided every day.

The food is the same every day. I am a vegetarian so lived of salad, cheese, chips and pasta.

The noise in the dining room in unbearable, as the students shout across your tables to each other, and have no manners or any idea of how to behave at all.

The bar staff aren't too bad, apart from one who never managed to smile except when he realised we were going the day after, but I still didn't tip him!!

The entertainment was a disco 5 nights with karoake and flamenco on the two others.

I would strongly recommned not visiting this hotel if you need a rest, as I have come back sleep depreived and exhausted. Students stay there all the time in there hundreds as there is a college behind that they visit.

People with young kids were complaining of lack of sleep, every day at reception, we had to catch up on our sleep most afternoons!!!!!

The manager needs to decide if he's running a family hotel, or a youth hostel, as that's what it seemed like to me.

Must say the rooms were spotless until we moved in?

We had only just arrived and got to our rooms. I’d placed on the dresser a sandwich I intended to eat (home made ham and pickle) between unpacking, showering and dressing.
Meanwhile I casually picked up the lovely sandwich to find that it had turned black. The black dispersed across my hand and up my arm. It was alive with minute ants.

This plague needed the attention of those at the desk, who said they ‘would sent someone up to deal with the culprits’!

That phrase seemed to be a stock answer to our many complaint of various content and hue.

The food had a peculiar rustic charm…..boiled egg soup anyone?

The Olympic food we found was probably wholesome at some stage, but had been transformed between the kitchen to table.

Why on Earth they had a ‘bouncer’ challenging the odd patron, checking their bags for food been taken away seemed odd, for much of it was in our opinion unfit and unacceptable. But on further consideration, perhaps food samples then could have been tested and investigated by the authorities?

The rooms were clean and plainly functional, austere, but functional. The walls were so thin one could hear whole conversations unless of course this was drowned out by the drunken revellers bawdy earthy language that seemed common place throughout our stay.

What we witnessed here at the Olympic was an horror show of the first order and I doubt whether this could have been bettered even in Bedlam? The nightly outbreaks of violence and rowdy behaviour and the scuffles from staff evicting the most unruly was indeed, frightening.

A letter of complaint has been sent to our travel agent who must know of the situation that exists here.

Of the three H Top Hotels, the Olympic was by far the lowest of the low, incrementally the Ameika being the better of a sorry bunch.

Whilst the entertainment factor didn’t register on any scale, one could not escape the fact that it was entertaining watching the faces of the patrons as they strolled along the food area eyeing the food presentations that to some, was repulsive. But at least; it was consistent throughout our stay.

Not a place to recommend to anyone.

booked a cheap week away without the kids, didnt expect too much for the price, was hoping for a bit better than what we received.
like most people have already said on here, rooms are small but ok for couples, beds are all singles, very outdated decor and furniture. walls are really thin which is great if you enjoy hearing peoples conversations or sexual goings on, if not then take a pair of ear plugs so you can get a decent sleep.
maids keep rooms tidy and towels fresh every day.
reception staff are helpful especially if you get the english woman. bar staff are miserable and dont really seem interested in serving.there is a stupid two drinks per card /per customer rule and if you have lager, it is served in plastic beakers which arent even half pint.
food is terrible and usually cold, and always the same. dont ask the guy walking round the restaurant with a drinks trolley for anything as you have to pay for it, unlike the spanish who appeared to get a bottle of red wine and a bottle of water put on the table as soon as they sat down with no charge.
pools are clean but freezing cold, maybe thats ok in june/july but for sept/oct they could do with being heated. hotel is situated on a hill which is about 5 mins walk from shops, and 10 mins to beach.
entertainment in hotel was rubbish, maybe better in peak season. wouldnt recommend this hotel to families or anyone for that matter. there is two other hotels in this chain which are a couple of minautes walk away, the amika being the better and much nicer of the two.

My partner and I went with our 13 year old, the beds was all single pushed together, wall was paper thin so you could here everything in the next rooms just big enough to swing a cat.

The lift was always broke the dinning room was like one big school dinning hall, food was lukewarm you could use the microwave to heat it up. If you like pork, turkey or fish you will be OK as the meals are always the same.

The swimming pools are freezing cold none are heated.

If you go all inclusive you get a card wish you can get 2 drinks per card per person, the glasses are very big and it takes 20 minutes to get served.

Stayed in Olympic hotel for my 15th wedding anniversary was not expecting much as we did not pay a lot for the four day break.

The hotel was clean on first glance but then we got in the room which had two single beds instead of a double, then there was the smell of urine from the bathroom.

Apart from that it was OK. The food was terrible on the second night my husband told a member of staff that the pork meat was still raw in the middle he said what do you want me to do. Lines were so long to get a drink I would not use this hotel again.

Hotel Alhambra, Santa Susana Hotel - Quite nice close to the beach. Music at hotel every night, very clean and staff very nice.

Dining room was okay but you have to wait in line for up to half hour like being in school. Food not bad but it caters for German people.

They don't like us English, they kept jumping the que. We would go back if the food department was better.

We were in room 423 which was great long balony.

This hotel should be renamed the Olympic Zoo . What can i say , other than i would not book or recommend this hotel to any one . The walls are so thin that you might aswell not have any, the hotel was clean enough and the rooms were cleaned and clean towels every day , the toilets were terrible to use.Food was standard spanish hotel food i always found something to eat, but after the first few nights ate out. Reception staff were helpful, bar staff were another thing always dropping hints for tips. As we didn't have children with us we didn't see or hear any entertainment. We did visit other HTop hotels and noticed the differnece straight away with the furnishings and service compared to the Olympic, the hotel could do with a complete refurbishment. The hotel is too far away from whats going on .

having just returned from a week at the Olympic i must admit that it wasn't the best break i've had. i was all inclusive for the first and last time , i mistakenly thought that it would be a cost saving as snacks , drinks , meals etc.. would be thrown in for free . OK if you are prepared to stand in queues your entire holiday , there are over 500 rooms in this hotel yet only 4 barstaff on duty the week i was there. As you are only permited 2 drinks/per visit at the bar , it seemed a really good way of the hotel limiting how much they actually spent on guests.
the resort itself was nice in places but it was all rather dated and the "all inclusive" hotels did kill off the nightlife ,as every bar was empty untill after midnight when you got a few drunken revellers patronising the closest bar to their hotel.
Too far from Barcelona to visit daily ( 45 mins on train ) and not enough to keep you occupied during the day , i would not return to this resort and will never attempt All Inclusive again.

I stayed in the hotel Olympic for one week and it was the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. In the room there was a cockroach and we put our suitcases on top in the wardrobes and all dust came off.

The food was horrendous! We had to eat out most of the time. People who we had talked to who had stayed there that was all inclusive had to eat out which is not fair when you have paid for these meals.

In the morning there are only two toasters there are massive ques which then when you put you bread in to toast it comes out the same as it started in the first place.

You have to put it in at the least two times which makes the ques even longer. Most of the food is also cold. One day there was a trail of ants -thousands which all went into the microwave! It was disgusting and the cleaners just took the table cloth away!

The location is in a nice place which is close to the beach and shops. One of my family members went to complain about the hotel to the manger and we said that the hotel should be a one star not a three!

We also complained about the food and the hotel in general and all the manger said was " i am only the manger. What can I do!"

There was not that much entertainment one night there was some singers and another night there was a grease production but yet again we went out. In the bar where the entertainment was supposed to be held - you could hear all the noise still down the road it was so noisy.

After all, I would never go or visit this hotel again!

I'm really confused! Just got back from Olympic hotel and looked at reviews on this site, (didn't read reviews before we left) and can't believe what other people have wrote. Maybe we just had a lucky week.

The hotel is spotless from top to bottom, rooms cleaned daily. No rowdy groups at all, nights were very peaceful and quiet. The food was not gormet obviously , but there was plenty to choose from and something for everyone, and very occasionally it was very good. My wife is a vegeterian and ate very well throughout our stay.

The pool area was also spotless and well laid out. The kids loved being able to get their own drinks and ice cream from the pool bar. They also loved the kids club (arts and crafts, pool games, even crossbow shooting) and recieved medals for their endevors. The kids reps also had activities for adults (rifle shooting, killer darts and pool etc) which was fun. The only complaint I have is about the bar at night. Expect to queue for about 20 mins at busy times, and when you can only get 2 drinks at a time, beer is served in halves only, you do spend a lot of time there. The entertainment is very cheesy but as you are able to visit other h-top hotels and use your all inclusive card the choice of entertainment is varied.

The hotel is one of the furthest from the beach but you can walk to it in under 5 mins with kids and inflatables in tow, so no real hardship there.

Me and my boyfriend booked this 3 days before we travelled and after reading reviews were concerned. We paid under £600 for both of us all inclusive so to be honest we were expecting the worst.

We were very pleasantly surprised, the rooms are a bit on the small side but the maids were in every morning cleaning and we had new towels most days.

The food was fine, my boyfriend is very fussy and on one occassion could only find chips and salad to eat but I always found something. I would warm vegetarians that the choice is limited and they do not label food, in the evening you may be lucky to be told what meat it is with a picture of a pig next to it but otherwise it was guess work! There was a very negative vibe about the food, comments on toilet doors and chatting to other guests made us aware that people seemed to expect a lot for a 3 star hotel. It realy is what you would expect for a cheap holiday, some of it was actually really nice!

The staff were friendly enough, as expected guests (usually British) often annoyed them when they got drunk but they were very well mannered. Entertainment is dire, it was almost funny how awful it was, we spent a few evenings in Calella Palace next door which is sooo much better, they even have better versions of songs in disco! Apparently the food over there was 100% better but we didn't bother, sounds like it was well worth eating in though.

As mentioned before there were a lot of German and Spanish students, groups of boys who weren't old enough to drink and were very rowdy, we were aware that there had been complaints made about them. Also you can upgrade to Calella Palace for about £35 extra a week we were told so may be worth looking into.

Overall if you aren't fussy about food and can get this cheap enough it is worth going, we spent about 100 euros between us as we ate out twice, we had a really cheap holiday and ate and drunk more than we normally would so can't really complain!

Me and my friend booked this holiday as we needed a last minute break. We booked it with Ferris for £230 each for 10 days all inclusive so there was no reason that we should cpmplain really as we got what we paid for! The hotel was clean enough, the rooms were cleaned nearly daily, we always had clean towels and enough toilet roll so it was fine. The food was a bit hit and miss but if you went to reception the previous day you could arrange to eat at any other h-top hotel so there isn't really any complaints there. The staff were all friendly enough, as we are both early 20's we got the usual 'madam you are beautiful' but that's to be expected abroad! The entertainment was the most awful I've ever seen!! It was almost funny as it was that bad! They had a very short childrens disco which was probably the best part of the entertainment all night!! The acts they had performing always included someone on a keyboard??? But as mentioned there were other h-top hotels around to go to and the town full of nightclubs was only a 2 minute walk away so it wasn't that bad. The english holiday rep for the hotel was fantastic. He was really helpful and brilliant with the children that were in the hotel. Overall if the same deal came up again I probably would go with the hotel again but it wouldn't be my first choice, I would definately go with H-TOP all inclusive as most of the h-top hotels are brilliant.

Rooms cleaned each day basic but expected. Food mostly inedible, our early morning bookings for Calella Palace were accepted but never at the Almaki we assumed it was the terrible reputation of Olympic, due the horrendous noise nearly every night, overrun with german students drunk with no respect for anyone else.
Three requests to speak to the manager saw him once only. Due to his incompetance and lack of care for anyone he told us we were the only complaint he had had. We told him he was lying because all the families we spoke to had complained. This hotel would make a good 18 to 30 club but definitly not a family hotel as it is advertised. The queues for drinks are endless and staff very curt and short. entertainment dreadful. Would not recomend this hotel to my worst enemy, needed another holiday when we got home, would definitely not visit this hotel or any H top hotel again.

Check in very good.

Room small for 4 but managed ok. Lots of young sports teams in who were rude and ignorant.

Food always good selection.

Pools very cold.

Staff really pleasant. Offered a room change when we complained about noisey kids etc, but we declined because we only had 3 days left.

Bit of bad bar management with only 2 drinks per person at bar, so if every one wants a drink you all have to queue.

We've just returned from a week at this hotel - we were a bit wary after reading the reviews, but got a good deal on an AI. If you stay here, and are under 16, you will generally need earplug if you plan on getting any sleep at all! At the time we went the hotel was over-run with german students. They would drink the bar dry (although they didn't look old enough), then generally riot along the corridors and off the balaconies until the wee hours. There were a group of older Welsh ladies also at the hotel, and I'm ashamed to say that regularly they staggered along the corridor at 2am banging on doors and singing. It's not really the sort of hotel you go to for a rest like we did.

If you're going to this area - there are only 2 hotels to go for - the Calella Palace and the Amaika - I wouldn't touch any of the others with a stick as they generally had the same problem with noisy students as we did.

The food at the hotel was plentiful - but more catered for a German pallette - the down side to the AI deal was the queueing! You had to queue for everything and if you didn't get to the dining room early, things started to get cold or they would close parts of it off as it got later, so then you'd have to wait for a table.

I think the staff at the hotel tried to arrange the accomodation so the younger people were nearer to the ground, and us oldies (30somethings) were further up - unfortunately with tiled floors - no double glazing - and open vent shafs in the en-suite, this did nothing to stop the noise.

The hotel was clean enough, although the cleaners visited on a daily basis, they only made the beds and didn't change the sheets - we also had to go hunting for toilet roll, as they'd often foget to leave one!

We have just returned from the HTop Olympic.

As other people have mentioned it was over run with young students from several countries, who took great pleasure from singing/shouting from the balconies till the early hours. When they settled down it was the turn of the British young families who came in from the pubs at 2-3 in the morning. Hammering on doors (to drunk to find there own room) and slamming doors, which could be heard right through the hotel. We took ear plugs and wore them every night, but this still did not stop the noise!

The bathrooms have a louvered door to a central shaft, which means you can hear EVERY thing that happens in the bathrooms above/below and nextdoor. The balcony door and window is not double glazed, the corridor floor is tiled which all adds to the noise. We initially had a room on the second floor with the students! but the staff did move us up to the sixth floor when we asked.

In general the staff on reception where pretty good. The food was typical Spanish hotel food, not brilliant but usually ok.

The location was ok, there is an underpass under the main road when you walk down to the town/beach. We did not see much of the entertainment as we went to the other two HTop hotels most nights.

For the price, the holiday was good value, but we would never visit the Olympic again, it needs a major refurbishment or knocking down and rebuilding.

This hotel is old and over run with students and the noise level is terrible. If you intend to book at this hotel think again or take ear plugs as you will not get any sleep at all due to the students running up and down swearing and kicking doors in the early hours. We only stayed at this hotel for 4 nights if it had been any longer I think I would have been at the end of my tether.

The room was small the bathroom was disgusting infact I do not know how they can say this is a 3 star hotel more like a 1 star.

The food was diabolical the only good thing about staying in the Htop group was you were able to use all the facilities of the 11 hotels dotted along the coast so you were able to escape as long as you booked in the day before you wanted to eat at a different hotel.

Would never return to this hotel ever again and I am posting this to warn others to take heed.

To Be fair for £177 all inclusive what could we expect? Try for one moment to think of being in a school playground full of rowdy people infused with drink and drugs... that then goes on all day and night for a whole week you just about have it - except in a playground someone takes some responsibility.

My disabled wife now has a black eye as a British woman decided to attack her in the lift - my wife uses a wheelchair for crying out loud.

Rowdy chanting went on all day and the whole night (At one point "I would rather be dead than a pakki" was aimed at the room of an Asian family by around 30 British - disgraceful) - this is not an exaggeration.

However if you wish to spend a week drunk and without sleep behaving however you feel with no intervention - and let's face it some people do this has to be for you

This sickly smell coming from the restaurant will live with me forever.

Never again

On arriving at 11.30pm the hotel public areas looked fine and check in was prompt and friendly. After reading previous reviews, we decided to manage our expectations and basically just take it as we found it, after all it was a cheap week away.

Our room was exactly how I imagined it to be - very very small, in fact we couldn't open the balcony door because the bed was against it, however it was clean and presentable. However, nothing prepares you for the shock of the incredible noise in this hotel. Even guests in rooms above, below and to the side of you can be heard distinctly and I mean you can hear everything! The noise - shouting, screaming running up and down corridors etc carried on through to 6am every night and to be honest they may as well had been in the room with you.

The next day the hotel was inundated with literally hundreds of Spanish people who were attending a festival, there was no chance of getting seats, drinks, food and the entertainment was all in Spanish. They were arriving throughout the day and night and the noise was even more unbearable.

The food was something else, I could not believe breakfast did not even include any fruit. It was very very poor. Even the salads which I love tasted horrible and we lived on bread rolls. There was no food at all to cater for children, no pasta, chicken in sight. In fact after only one day/night we just went out to Barcelona for the day on the train (which is very cheap only £4 return for adults) and then ate out in Calella.

We were told we could eat at the other hotel just across the road the Calella Palace. The hotel looked much nicer and the choice of food was a little better but in terms of quality and taste it would at most score a 2.

The staff in both hotels were rude and I was told off for sitting on a table for 6 when there was just 4 of us. Also the bar staff treat you like dirt, despite making an effort and ordering everything in Spanish (which I thought may thaw the stony attitude)! They are also incredibly regimental about the amount of drinks you are allowed, so when my husband wanted to order us drinks and get the kids a coke, I had to go to the bar with him because you are only allowed to buy 2 at a time! Needless to say I can count on one hand how many drinks we had over the 2 days!

It also tipped down with rain which I know is not anyone's fault but when it is raining and the hotel is so bad and there is nothing whatsoever to do,there was little point in staying and suffering. Therefore after 48 hours I booked my family on flights at an additional cost of £300 to go home that day. We are not unrealistic and know you get what you pay for and did not expect anything much, but to be faced with no sleep and virtually no food, we think this is unacceptable no matter how little you pay.

Needless to say we would never go back to this hotel again. What was supposed to be a cheap half term break turned into a expensive nightmare.

We stayed in the Olympic on a 4 night all inclusive break. We didn't pay too much so didn't expect too much.

The rooms were a good size for 2 people, I definitely wouldn't recommend anymore people in them. The were kept very clean. The cleaners were in every day, changed the beds, towels and emptied the bin.

The food was varied, although not always hot but warm, but at least was edible. The tables were always kept clean and tidy ready for the next set of people to sit down for their meal.

The cleaning staff were all very friendly as were the bar staff, who were very overworked and could be forgiven for not always having a smile on there faces.

We didn't really watch the entertainment but could hear it from the lounge and everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves in the bar.

This is somewhere I would definitely go again on a similar deal, we definately had our monies worth.

We stayed at Christmas, all inclusive. No problems over Christmas and Boxing Day, issues with East European students/dancers/sportsmen taking over the place. Have they never seen an orange, every time you looked around they were putting dozens of them in their bags, sod all left for those of us who only wanted one. The entertainment was generally good, but geared for youngsters(we're in our forties). Noisy at night, people running up and down corridors, banging on doors. Air con poor, managed to catch a cold whilst there, haven't shifted the cough six months later.Staff were very good though.

We had originally booked another hotel but 4 days before traveling Cosmos informed me that the hotel was closing early for the season. This hotel overlooked the beach and was in fact the nearest to the sea. Cosmos stated they would book us into another hotel of the same rating and after several phone calls stated the only hotel available was Top Olympic.

I had read bad reviews regarding this hotel and asked them to check again for any other hotel. The refused stating they had checked and this was the only accommodation available in Calella. The hotel was rated a 3 star (I have since wondered who rates these hotels). When arrived at the hotel by car as I had driven there from England taking in the sites of France.

We found the hotel which in fact is the furthest away from the beach at least 450 yards although Cosmos said it was only 400 meters from the beach. To get to the beach one had to cross the main road going through Calella which is also the main road between Barcelona and Girona so was very busy all through the day time with large lorries. We were given our room on the 2nd floor. There was no place in the hotel were you could see the sea. It was overlooked seaward by several other hotels.

The first thing we saw as we entered the room was dirt. The floor was dirty the walls were dirty. There was condensation running down the entry door on the inside. The air conditioning did not work. The air con filter system as you entered the room was broken and one could see the ceiling above which was covered in cobwebs. The bathroom was dirty with mould around the bath. The grouting between the tiles was black in places and there were broken tiles that had been glued back broken and not replaced. This was supposed to be a 4 bed room but 2 beds taken out. If 4 beds were there one would not be able to open the broken wardrobe.

There was only 1 chair in the room and only one chair on the balcony. No table. The balcony overlooked other parts of the hotel and was also overlooked by other hotels. There were no curtains in the room. All the paintwork on the internal doors was chipped and overall the room was dirty and looked like it had just been vacated.

I asked the staff at reception if they had another room as the one offered was in such a state but they stated that was all they had.

I then tried to call Cosmos to complain and to get us other accommodation that was on a par with the original hotel. All calls were made on mobile phone to England so the cost was very high. They stated they would get back to me. I informed the hotels staff what I though of the hotel and whilst there several other persons heard my complaints and they said their rooms was as bad. They had stated because they had young children with them and could not go off and look for somewhere else at short notice.

I found another hotel just yards from the original hotel I had booked. It was very clean and tidy and was rated 2 star. They had rooms to spare. We also enquired at several other hotels along the sea front and found they had accommodation as well. It appears that Cosmos did not try very hard to sort out the mess they had got us into. We spent 5 days in Calella and not once did Cosmos call me.

After reading the reports published on this website we were feeling hesitant about staying in this hotel but we went and it was great.

The rooms were cleaned thoroughly everyday, clean towels and linen also. Granted the rooms were small but we coped.

The food was very good for a three star hotel always plenty of choice avaliable.

It was located in the best possible place in the resort with a bar next door which was only one euro a pint.

The hotel staff were good, most were fiendly and very help with the exception of one ignorant woman.

I can't give opinion on hotel entertainment because I was never around to see it but the bar was usually full so I expect it was good.

The best thing about staying in a H.Top hotel is the option to visit any other H.Top hotels in any other resort get taken there for free on a coach have a meal and get a ride back all for the one low price of £0.00. Make the most of being able to visit any H.Top hotel, For one night we upgraded our evening meal to the 4* H.Top Calella Palace which was lovely and remember it doesn't cost a penny. We experienced a little noise at night times but no more than we made ourselves on occassions.

All in all we had a great holiday so remember don't believe everything you read on websites like this one.

We arived at the hotel Olympic at 5am. Booked in promptly and asked for change to get water out of the machine and we got told straight up the shop is closed so you can't get change. Come down in the morning we got up to the room to find 2 single beds as I got told there was double bed when we booked as it was stated a twin.

The rooms walls are "really" thin we could hear snoring through the walls and also could hear people tearing toilet paper of in their bathrooms. Is advised to ask the reception for blankets as the rooms are cold as well.

The kids games are really basic as you can see on the boards down stairs and they start at 10 and finish at 4

The food is basic but there's always something you could eat e.g chips and the snacks are the same everyday. What's ever left over from breakfast and lunch basically.

We would go back to an Htop hotel but not to a 3 star as we had visited the Callella Palace and the Amika across the road and it was 100% better food and was labled which shows you the difference between 3 and 4*

I booked 2 adjoining rooms when arrived was told that it was impossible, then got 5 rooms between each other. Arrived at 3am, went to reception and asked for change for the machine for water was told no.

We stayed for a week and ate in the hotel only once as it wasn't fit for a dog to eat.

The entertainment was that bad we couldn't even suffer it to have our drinks that we had already paid for. So instead of costing us £400 each it ended up costing as around £700 as we had to eat and drink out all the time, really only used the hotel for sleeping in, even then only because we had to.

The staff really were the most ignorant people I have ever came across on holiday, so don't waste your time even thinking of asking for anything as you will just be told a straight no!!!

The only good point we had was that the rooms were spotless, the cleaners were in every day.

If you haven't already booked this hotel then please don't waste your hard earned money. Wish we had read the reviews before we went. This really is the hotel from hell I've never stayed in anything like it in my life.

Hotel Olympic - Callela. Last minute booking.

Arrived about 1am at hotel, booked in and went to room. Female was being sick in corridor outside our room. We had booked what we thought was a family room which turned out to be a double room with two "camp beds" added.

Couldn't get into wardrobe or open doors to balcony. Complained to reception who advised room sizes were all the same, ened up moving furniture! Woken every morning around 5am with revellers returning to rooms and doors being banged, corridor very echoey!

Food was mediocre and some plates still had dried food stuck to them. Pools were good, there are two good sized pools at front and a large pool and childrens pool at back.

We arrived in the early morning there was three beds in a small room so there was very little room to move around.

Went down for breakfast not the best. For lunch and dinner if you like salad you will be fine. Food not marked up so you never know what it is you are eating it is like a lucky dip.

There is three pools at the hotel and plenty of sun beds but make sure you get up in plenty of time to put your towels on the sunbeds.

Entertainment is for young kids there was a lot of people playing cards. For entertainment there is a pub down the road called the White Horse if you fancy a proper cupper and some English food ideal. The night clubs are great if you like that sort of thing. My son went to the clubs all week and enjoyed them.

There was a lot of couch party's there in the hotel that paid a lot less for their holiday but the one good thing in the h-top hotel is that you can go to any of the h-top hotels and use your card and drink and eat in any of them

Arrived early in the morning sorted out quickly and it was a small room with 3 beds got to move beds to go to the balcony and wardrobe.

The swimming pool was great.

The food was not the best but if the take a wark to the White Horse British bar 2 mins away you will have a great cuppa and food and great for all the family at night. I have a teenager and he loves the night clubs.

It was not the worse hotel I have stayed in but am glad we were only there for a week. Great for kids.

We found our stay at the Olympic in July a pleasurable one and surpassed our expectations. The hotel was very clean throughout and the food was plentiful and varied in choice, and we both ate very well during our weeks stay.

We were on all inclusive and were pleased to find the drinks served in a glass as opossed to a plastic cup and never had to wait long for a drink at the bar, the entertainment was rangin from brilliant to mediocre with brazilan thrill a minute dancers one minute to no thrills at all spanish singing girls so bad we thought them hilarious, all in all entertainment was pot luck.

We really did enjoy our stay at the Olympic and after a disastrous stay at the casino royal the previous summer this hotel helped restore our faith in the htop hotel group.

I forgot to mention that as an htop guest you are free to take advantage of the all inclusive facilities at its sister hotels and a free shuttle bus is provided.

Hotel overrun with foreign teenagers, running about shouting and banging doors till all hours.

Rooms cleaned daily. Food not too bad if you knew what it was. On last day we left our luggage in the supposed secure room 10 feet from the Reception desk.

On going to pick up cases, we found other people complaining that their luggage had been tampered with. We and a few others had ciggies stolen, in our case 2000.

We stayed at the Olympic in May 2006, we went All Inclusive, but was a bit disapointed with the food, but there was plenty of places round about to eat out. Hotel was really handy for the beach, which was very clean and very relaxing, Hotel entertainment was OK, but probably mostly for families, Staff were also very freindly, and every room has a great view of the pool.

Stayed at the Olympic early April. Hotel was over-run by foreign students aged 15-17yrs. Walls are paper thin, and you hear everything when the students return at 5am from the clubs..........

Couldn't fault the food during our visit, plenty of choice.

Staff a little dry until you get to know them. Security a joke, practically non existent apart from the man with the weird hair walking around with a radio walkie talkie....

If you fancy a trip to Calella, stay at the sister hotel the Amika, it's four star and it shows.

We stayed at the Hotel Olympic, we went for just a week[ 14th- 21st ]. We found the rooms very clean, clean towels every day.

Our room was swept and mopped, beds made and bins emptied daily couldn't fault the cleanliness at all.

The food is all buffet style but also enjoyalbe, at times you did need to warm some of the food up in the microwaves.

Fantastic selection of salads, pasta's and rice dishes and wow some of the cakes where to die for.Location typical tourist shop's around but as you walk into the centre you can find some very nice, more stylish shops.

It is close to the beach which is nice for the beach lovers.Found all of the staff very helpful and also pleasent with it.

There was entertainment most evenings, but I did feel that there could have done a little more for the children. Cheap last minute booking, was dissapointed with the noise level on a evening.

Lots of young groups booked in,and lots of noise most of the night from them, very thin walls so you could hear a pin drop in the room next door. But despite the noise did manage 5 hours sleep a night after first two nights with only 2.

Met some really nice people , so over all turned out not too bad for a last minute cheap booking. Not a place that we would return too, I need at least 7 hours sleep a night, haha.

We visited the Olympic Hotel for 3 nights on a short break. The hotel was extremely clean with the sheets changed daily.

Although we were half board, we never ate at the hotel so i am unable to advise on the food quality.

The hotel was in a good location, not far from the beach/bars/shops and the train station was about a 10 minute walk. Barcelona is well worth a visit- an hour on the train.

Hotel staff were ok, not much more can be said.

Although this hotel was clean, we would not personally return. This is a very much family orientated hotel, with kids of all nationalities running riot all of the time, from first thing in the morning, until the early hours.

The noise of this hotel is the major factor. You can hear absolutely everything through the walls- and is the hotels major downfall.

I have read some awful things about this hotel and it is not as bad as some make out, at least it is clean. We got this hotel on a last minute cheap deal- you pay for what you get.

This was a cheap holiday over Easter for £219 per person. And I think we had good value for money.

Food was typical 3 star spanish food. fairly good quite a lot of choice Sometimes on the cool side but they did provide 2 microwaves. They did snacks till midnight though to guarentee anything 11.30pm would be a better bet.
Except for Good Friday and the Saturday(when the hotel seemed to fill with spanish OAPs) we never waited more than 5 mins to get served for a drink.

AI lasts till midnight though you can buy drinks till 1.30am.

You can use your card in the other Htop hotels which is a good bonus if you go for a walk. You can eat in eat in the chain of hotels as well but you have book the day before.

They have a large smoking louge in the hotel. Nightly Entertainment Typical low key Acts and Plenty of Music man Armillo etc. But Enjoyable for families and Oldies alike.

3 swimpools. One large, 2 smaller Ones. Lots of sunbeds even though hotel was full. There was pool bar which also served icecream.

Recpetion were friendly and helpful
Included in your hotel stay are 2 trips One to a Show with Dancers etc.. And the other one to a jousting tourment. Though you do have to pay for Transport.

The main downfall of the hotel was the noise at night It is on 8 floors The rooms are very small. walls are just plasterboard and you can hear everything coughing snoring EVERYTHING!!! All doors seem to slam, Balcony doors squeek. I recommend anyone going to take earplugs.

For the price we paid it was good value for money I think the hotel has received a lot of negative feedback which worried me before I went.

If you want peaceful surrondings high quality food and 5star treatment this is not the place for you. Otherwise go. Enjoy yourself and be prepared to put up with a few hicups.

Had a 3 day break holidaying alone for the first time and thought this would be ideal when booking. However read reviews with horror...most worrying was safety and bad food reviews.

On arrival had low expectations but still positive attitude to make the most of my break.

The food was not brilliant but not bad and as I am vegetarian I have had worse with less choice than I had here.

The hotel is spotlessly clean-no probs at all here.

My room, however, was tiny approx 5ft by28ft(including bathroom)one tiny single bed, corridor shaped room!! Bed and pillow were hard(and I mean hard)

Staff were the most sour faced, rude bunch I have ever come across - but there were a few exceptions-a few lovely ones. They really do not like the British-and attitude bordered on rudeness. How this is allowed I do not know

it is almost impossible to get a good nights sleep here due to inconsiderate people(of all nationalities including British)shouting banging and singing in corridor at any time (2am 4am 7.30am)

This is definitely what you would call a rough hotel, but if you have a positive attitude, low expectations and make the most of what you have you can have a good holiday but 3 days was long enough for me. Although I did enjoy my break (did a lot of sightseeing, walked for miles and saw beautiful Barcelona..wow!) I came home exhausted.
but, I must say for an all inclusive holiday it was good value for money.

This was the first holiday I have ever been on where I have just wanted to go home from the word go.

I have been going to Spain every year since I was a child and this is BY FAR the worst hotel I have ever stayed at.

The hotel is absolutely disgusting, there is nothing good I can say at all. The staff just could not be bothered with you at all, the bar staff were all miserable and spoke to you as if it were a real task.

The rooms are horrible, dirty and had cockroaches in many. The air conditioning does not work. The bathroom floor was stinking as was the toilet which actually had a sticker on to say it has been cleaned thoroughly! joke! The double bed I was promised was two single beds pushed together so you moved an inch and the bed slid half way across the floor, never mind though because Sleep is near impossible anyway! We could hear everything in the adjacent rooms. From singing at 3 in the morning to them going to the toilet. The bathrooms are joined with a cupboard, all that separates you is slats!! You can actually see into next doors bathroom which i DID NOT FEEL AT EASE WITH!!

The poolside bar and snacks etc etc is all rubbish because it all seemed to be shut. The snacks served in the restaurant are the left overs from lunch and dinner. The food is always cold and to be fair I lived on chips for the whole time because that's all I could recognise!!!! Even when you ask the so called chefs serving the food what it is even THEY don't seem to know!!!!! As an example, the night we arrived there were frankfurters. The next morning for breakfast there were frankfurters cut in half (obviously left overs!) then at lunch there was frankfurters (worried at this point!) then dinner was pasta with sliced frankfurters in it!!!!!! I kid you not! So you can see how chips seemed a good option!

The entertainment was lame.

DO NOT TAKE KIDS HERE!!! the balcony is falling apart, cracked glass, rust, broken panels etc etc. The food does not cater for kids with such pleasures as liver, over cooked veal, half boiled eggs with a dollop of sauce on the top and thats all that we could work out what it actually was! everything is greasy and looks worse than my dogs food and worse its freezing. Oh but there is a microwave if you want to queue for half an hour to warm it up!

So to sum up, while we were waiting to go home outside the hotel we were telling people arriving to get back on the coach!!.........DO NOT GO THERE!!!

The staff were, in the main, very helpful. They were obviously under a great deal of pressure but remained fairly calm. The housekeepers were very efficient and there were no problems with cleanliness. The swimming pools are large and very well maintained.

The main problem with this hotel is a lack of hard-line security. Night time security staff have no idea regarding the control of drunks! Our night time diary would read:

Arrived Sunday night- drunken domestic in corridor at 2am. Continued by banging of doors and throwing of furniture until 4 am.

Monday night- much of the same, with drunken singing in the corridors.

Tuesday night- A drunk Scotsman singing "Tie A Yellow Ribbon" at 3 am followed by a "girl* (the people in the next room thought it was a boy) screaming "Alison, where are you?" and banging on doors at 4.45am. At this point i went into the corridor and confronted her, only to be told "I'm on holiday", my response was "So are we and we want to sleep". At this point a "Security Guard" arrived and led her away with a "There- there" attitude.

I'd have called the local police! 15 minutes later she started again. The next morning there was blood in the corridor and the Policia Locale were evident in reception.
Wednesday night- we paid for a hotel in Barcelona and had a really good night's sleep!

Thursday night- some singing and slamming of doors at 3 am.

Sadly, this is a very good hotel for the money, but because of the all- inclusive price they encourage people who cannot contain the urge to to drink and then get out of control.

Most of the people we met were on benefits and only in Spain to get a tan and alcohol poisoning- I hope they are suffering for the latter. We enjoyed getting away for the culture.

Calella is nicely based for Blanes and for Barcelona and the transport system is both cheap and efficient. We will return to Catalunya- but not to a rubbish hotel!

This was our second stay at the Olympic having been there in July and enjoyed ourselves immensely and endevoured to return and so did, however things had changed enormously in 6 weeks as I shall explain.

Previously we had a room with a lovely view of the gardens but this time a sub-standard room facing the pool. Secondly the hotel was packed to capacity and without appearing snobbish with a shower of ruffians, the weather was atrocious and we found ourselves in a tropical storm, a consequence of this being that everyone stayed in the hotel and the noise really did my head in, couldnt sleep a wink.

However please take time to read my earlier review dated July 05. The weather combined with other factors can ruin a persons holiday without the hotel or the resort ever being at fault. When the sun shines its lovely no matter where you are.

However the hotels standards didn't slip, the food in the restaurant was still excellent and the drinks still flowed, I still found this to be a good hotel that could benefit from renovation, then it would get the credit it deserves.

THE ORIGINAL HOLIDAY FROM HELL!!!

We were promised a hotel catering for families, we ended up in a death trap for small children.

On inspection of the room we found the balcony windows were flimsy, rotting, single glased and been reglazed recently (potentially lethal for a toddler). the glass on the balcony was cracked and the railings were rusted.I confronted the manager over this, his attitude was 'tough s**t', when asked to be moved or a refund we were refused.

Another family told us that they had to wrap the cot in towels to protect their baby daughter from the pertruding nails in it!

The food was disgusting, more than often cold, fortunately they kindly provide a microwave for you to warm it up!!!. All crockery was either dirty or chipped (i've thrown better away). It came as no surprise that I ended up with food poisoning on the third day resulting in me looking at the inside of a toilet bowl for the next three days.

Sleep is more or less impossible, due to the noisy corridors and paper thin walls. We even heard the neighbour vomitting at 2am and passing solids at 9am.

The 'entertainment' caters only for the German over 60's. Queues at the bar were usually about 25 deep with an awkard, miserable barman at the end of it.

If you've already booked, my sincere condolencies to you. Avoid at all costs, a disgrace to the hotel industry. Should be bulldosed preferably with the hotel manager in it.

The cleanliness of the hotel itself was excellent.

The food however was dreadful it was always cold no matter what time of day you ate and was tottaly unsutiable for children(mine been 5 and 3).

The hotel staff on a whole were ok considering the amount of hours they all worked the cleaners in paticular were very friendly. The entertainment was absolutly rubbish if you were Spanish and knew all the Spanish songs to line dance to then fine if not its easier to go elsewhere.

I would never go to this hotel again even if it was offered to me free.

Read several reports before we went but don't understand what some people expect, I have had 16 All Inclusive holidays in the last 4 years and would not disrespect this 1 at all.

Weather was in the 80,s {last week September 05}

Food was ok always something there and I'm fussy

Bar staff were ok all week no complaints at all never waited more than 5 mins to be served.

Yes plastic glasses wee for round the pool {optional} but we agree with them fully as sorry to say British couple smashed 2 glasses by the pool and just walked off {now that's ignorant}

Hotel was clean and rooms cleaned everyday

3 pools to choose from 1 with a pool bar

Cocktails carry a 2 euro surcharge for A/I guests

Resort itself was bustling and it was end of season
we used the Amika also decor was superb meals were just the same

Anyone thinking of going here I would ignore reports and go see for yourself as you won't be disappointed. We only paid 209 each and it was worth every penny

Let me first start by saying don't ever visit this hotel.
The food in the hotel was appauling, it only catered for the Germans and Spanish.

The english was not catered for at all. I thought this was disgiusting, as me and my family had to go out every night and eat elsewhere. Therefore we ended up spending more than we had originally planned.

The location of this hotel was out of the way from the bars and the nightlife, we were told that the hotel was right in the centre of calella more like right up the top.

Very dangerous if you are walking home alone.

The staff were very rude to the English and could not smile for love or money. I tried my best not to talk to them as I didn't want to feel like I wasn't welcome in the hotel.

The entertainment was very little and again only catered for the German and the Spanish.

I would never visit this hotel again, if you are foreign then go ahead and book. But the English please stay away.

You will end up going home early from your holiday if you visit this hotel.

We got a excellent deal off the internet for this hotel, but was quite worried after reading a lot of the reviews on this site but overall had a relly good time.

Food wasn't brillant but was ok and nearly always mustered up a decent meal, on the few occasions that this wasn't possible there was plenty of choice in town (Safari steak house was nice and also the kids loved the mcdonalds).

Couldn't fault the cleanliness as the rooms were cleaned every day, the hallways and stairs always mopped and the toilets were excellent.

The bar staff were not over friendly, but this could have been due to the amount of hours they had to work or the stick they took about only allowing 2 drinks each no matter how many people were in your group or having young children with you.

Well I've just come back from this Hotel and I really enjoyed my experience. I suppose it depends on how much you paid for your holiday, but I had a bargain with Ferris coaches. This Hotel was clean and the reception staff were quick and helpful. The location was brilliant and very close to the heart of Calella, with the fantastic Papas bar only 400yards away. The only disappointment was the entertainment, but just go into the town or to Papas bar for family fun.

I have read some of the comments on the food and I must say what is wrong with some of you people. The Hotel's food was very, very good indeed with an excellent selection of hot food and lots of different salads to choose from. The Breakfast was varied and you can have traditional bacon and eggs or continental or both. All I can say about the food is if all you want is British food, well stay in Britain, you must remember that you are in Spain and that will influence the cooking. But saying that I still thought the food was excellent for a three star Hotel.

Finally Calella is very nice but you must visit Barcelona when you are there, because its a beautiful city.

We arrived at the hotel to a friendly receptionist, which is a good start. My partner and I had our photgraphs taken for the 'All Inclusive cards' we were given for throughtout our stay. Quite efficient and first good impression. (There was not a lot of information about eating and drinking but we thought this would be in the room. Wrong!

The room was quite small but generally clean, very basic and the Decor was very dated. We weren't that bothered as only the two of us, as long as it was clean I am a happy chappie! No information about eating, drinking etc so we went to reception and looked it up.(Not a lot of information I may add)

So far, ok. Not the Ritz but not that bad.

We went to the bar for a drink and was greeted with a queue that had 20+ people, at best it had 3 bar staff at worst it had 1!!! This did not get any better for the week we were there. We decided to go out of the hotel that night and sample the local bars. Infact every night we were there, we went out! If you got to the bar before 8pm the queue was not that bad (15 to 20 people)but after that it was not worth the wait, especially as there is a 2 drink at a time limit. So half you night would actually be spent queing up for drinks in glasses that were not even half pint size!

Food - Appalling! Cold, tasteless and some unidentifable. We tried the breakfast twice, the lunches a couple of times and the evening meal just the once. That was way enough! We did pop in every now and again to see if the food got any better but it didn't. We ate out all other meal times.
A microwave also popped up in the restaurant! Was this their way of condoning cold food? Just heat it up? I think not! (I would like to add that we are not fussy, traditional pie and chip eating sorts. We actually like to sample different foods!)
If you couldn't stomach the breakfast which a lot of people couldn't, they opted for toast! They had two toast machines in a restaurant that seated approx 400+ people and was full generally whatever time you went. Yes! another massive queue!
If you wanted a drink while eating your meal, you had to queue for approx 10-15 mins to be served by the one guy behind the bar BUT if you wanted to pay for a drink they had staff going round bringing it to your table!

The pool area was very cramped and you had to do a 7am dash to the pool with your towels(the latest I add) to get a sunlounger! The Sunloungers were sandwiched together and you would be lucky if you had a 2 inch gap between you and the next person! Nice and intimate I suppose.

Lifts - either wait and I mean wait! Or get super fit like we did walking up to the 7th floor!

The staff in general worked very hard but there was just not enough of them, I actually felt sorry for some of them as they were doing a thankless task day after day. There were a few who shouted at the kids in the pool for having balls, inflatable beds etc but it really did depend on what mood they were in.
The maid had quite a strange tendency to move my toiletries from the shelf or the sink area to the bidet!!! Lets just say that I had an infection control wobbler and was not impressed by the thought of my face cloth being put in the bidet then using it on my face!! This happened a few times. We heard people complaining about various things (mainly the things I have mentioned )in reception but they got vacate looks back from the staff and also shrugs of shoulders! I just moved my toiletries! Less hassle and also less blood pressure problems! They just did not seem bothered about anything!!

In all - if you had children the entertainment was good for them but very repetitive! The hotel has a lot of work to do in regards to Customer Service and it was quite clear that 'cost cutting' was there aim.(If we make them queue long enough they will go somewhere else). In all we paid for all inclusive and must have had 25 drinks each max throughout our 7 day stay!(Oh yes and two punnets of ice cream) The 'Cost cutting' excercise worked with us! We were fortunate to eat and drink out everyday but some people could not do that and had to put up the food and endless queues for drinks!

I would not send my worst enemy to a H Top Hotel. I would also like to add that we are quite easy going and do not demand high class customer service but this was the worst service I have every come across( Not the staff's fault) but the manager's for not employing enough staff. Whoever decides the policies in this chain of Hotels really needs to go back to the drawing board, good service, food and drink etc and people go back - sometimes with their friends and families. Bad experience and you end up writing a report on a website like this and warning anyone not to go!!!!!! Not good business sense to me.

As soon as we checked in, I went down to reception to ask for a bigger room only to be told that all the rooms were the same size. I travelled with my partner and our 2 lads (14 & 8). The room was incredibly small, we couldn't open the balcony door as one the beds stopped it. I have seen bigger cells than the rooms in The Olympic. In the end we put half of the furniture on the balcony and the other half in the bathroom just to give us some space.

The Pool.

The pool at the back was good, only it was run by the Spanish Gestapo in yellow shirts. It depended on what mood they were in if they allowed lilos or inflatables in the pool. Their service at the bar also left a lot to their moods at the time. Sometimes with a smile but mostly it was surly and unpleasant.

The pool was clean though and the doors opened at 7:00 to claim the beds for the day.

Daytime Entertainment.

The people who ran this were great, and worked very hard during the day and night. The games of Water Polo went down well and it was a great ice-breaker. There were also darts, shooting and killer pool competitions on a regular basis. They also organised the same competitions for the kids.

The Bar.

Be prepared for a long queue to get served, and it's either 2 drinks per person or 2 drinks per card depending on the length of the queue or what The Manager has instructed that night. We were there for 10 days and it changed frequently. The Bar Staff took a lot of 'getting to know' but they work damn hard so you couldn't really chat to them.

The Night Entertainment.

Ranged from terrible to awful with the exception of the Brazilian Show - WHICH MUST NOT BE MISSED. It was truly a horrible experience of a night and it was catch 22. If the act of a night was dire, then the queue at the bar was small. If the act was bearable then the queue was large. Be prepared for locals to get served straight away as well, that caused a few arguements.

Food.

Edible and it was always the same. Pasta or chips, pork or chicken. I had soup with my main meal and I could not tell you what flavour it was, only if it was green, brown or greeny brown. The were queues to get in the restaurant as well, it all depends on the timing of your visit.

I would never recommend this hotel to my worst enemy, the whole experience has soured our first time at All Inclusive. In general the staff were pleasant (only just though), and the service was poor and slow.

The hotel is a throwback to the 80's when all you needed was the bare minimum. There are so many different nationalities there of different ages that I believe the hotel tries to cater for all of them and it fails each time. They want to pinpoint the type of guest they want and cater for them if this hotel is to improve.

Every single guest we spoke to during our stay, all had the same complaint and couldn't wait to leave. We spoke to around 30 families during our stay, not one of them had anything good to say about this hotel.

If you would not touch this hotel with a large barge pole, if someone offered me a free holiday at the Top Olympic next year and paid off my mortgage I would still refuse, it's the pits.

I filled in their questioniarre report at the end of my stay, I had to ask for extra paper for my comments.

If you have already booked here and reading this, try the other 'Top' Hotels in the area. The AI card you receive lets you eat and drink in the 3 hotels in the area. That's the only way you'll escape as the service and food is far better. We were told this on our last night !!!!!

If you are thinking of booking this hotel - then please don't, save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere.

My wife. Daughter and myself have just arrived back form a 10-day AI stay at the Olympic hotel, this is what we thought

Rooms – small and cramped if you need more than two beds however they are always kept clean and tidy with good supply of towels, air condition worked well

Lifts – a pain in the a*** small and slow

Food and dining room – both the food and eating area were surprisingly good, the food although not traditionally English was varied, tasty and plentiful, the presentation of the food was very good also

Snack bar – between meal times you could go into the dinning room and visit the snack bar for munchies – a chip butty, bacon butty, a salad that type of thing – very useful and the food was usually very good

Pool area – large pool at the rear of the hotel was always packed and busy however the two smaller front pools were easy the get sun beds and never got over busy – pool cleaning was a bit slow and hit and miss on a couple of occasions broken glass was found in the pool and they were very very slow to react

Meeting people – we met some very nice people and made some good friends during our stay, the atmosphere around the pool area was lovely and so to was the dining room

Entertainment – very poor even for Spanish standards, I realised I was watching acts that were worse than most of the pop idol auditions you see on TV,

Bar staff – I have never met a more unenthusiastic, unorganised bunch in all my life, the concept of giving the customer satisfaction is totally foreign to them, the bar in the entertainment area is about 40 yards long there were only four bar staff at the peek busy times (if you were luck) if you are a recovering alcoholic I thoroughly recommend this bar as it is virtually impossible to get drunk

Hotel policies – for a family hotel to allow large groups of single sex parties was very poor, families and single groups don’t mix very well but the hotel did not seem to care the attitude seemed to be once we have your money we are not interested, as for the AI promise of what you want when you want it that was a joke, only one drink at a time at busy periods and having to pay if you wanted a pint mug

Overall the weather, hotel situation, food and cleanness was good but the staff and some of the hotel polices were very very poor,
As a family I would like to go back to Calella but it definitely won’t be at a Top Hotel and it definitely won’t be at the Olympic

I thought I had a good cheap deal with this hotel but it turned out to be the worst holiday I have ever had. Would not return as really felt that British people were not catered for at all.

The entertainment was mainly for the Spanish guests. I would never go AI again either, total waste of time as couldn't eat most of what was on offer. It was a shame for my son who stopped going to the pool because no-one could understand him and quite frankly they didn't want to as this is definitely a Spanish holiday hotel not British.

There were 11 of us on a hen weekend and we booked this all inclusive as we got quite a good deal. Wasn't expecting much but overall it was a really good hotel.

The rooms were very clean bit squashed as we had three in some rooms (two proper beds and a camp bed). We only stayed Fri-Mon but the rooms were cleaned every day. The food is not very exciting typical pasta salads, meat and fish every day.

Wouldn't go all inclusive for any more than a couple of days. You are only allowed two drinks at a time so everyone in our party had to queue at the bar to get their own! Waiters not exactly full of enthusiasm or great customer service. The pools and surrounding area are very clean and we had a great view over these.

Entertainment was rubbish, hotel was full of old people but this meant loads of sunbeds free!(very friendly even though we couldn't speak Spanish!) Would recommend this hotel if you just want a quiet holiday.

Before going on holiday I read reviews about this hotel which was poor, but when I got there it wasn’t as bad as it was made out to be.

There were 3 of us in the same room the rooms are small but your only sleeping in there it was clean and basic.

The food was not too bad they did a variety of things the snacks were always the same ,not too bad if you like chips and burgers.

The entertainment was non existent for the English it was all catered for the Spanish as there was a lot of older Spanish people but we didn’t let it get us down. We went round the corner to the other top hotel Osirus, it was English the entertainment was fantastic , a lot more going on there, as we went their most nights.

The location of our hotel was in a good spot 10 min walk to the beach or catch the road train which stops out side.

Hotel Olympic is a little tired but clean, rooms are ok as there was only two of us in it.

As for the food all I can say is it is typically spanish if people want english food they should stay in England.

The entertainment was poor aimed mostly at kids but then the people on the team were only kids themselves.

Stayed in Olympic hotel for two weeks, on half board basis. Hotel and the rooms clean and tidy, although far too cramped and unsafe for more than two people in a room.

We stayed on the 5th floor, and did not go out onto the balcony, as the drop was horrendous. Holes in the curtains, and the so called air conditioning didn't work.

Location of the hotel is good, a ten minute work to the shops and beach, but far enough to be away from all (3) of the pubs! Had no problems with the staff, helped out when needed.

The entertainment (if you can call it that) left alot to be desired. Didn't feel the kids club was run very safely (sorry but mums know best!) The food , oh my god the food was disgusting, we tried the breakfast on the first day, and that was it, we ate out every other day, food at night wasn't as bad, but if you don't mind not knowing what it is your eating!

When arriving at the hotel,we all agreed,"great, good hotel",as we had our 2 year old son with us,we were expecting a room possibly 1 or 2 up.

We got the top floor, when we got to our room,it didn't have a double bed,or cot. It had two single beds pushed together, and when the cot arrived,it looked like it was made by a blind man.

The view was spectacular, the pool was great,BUT there was a Spanish school party, and what a racket they made.

The entertainment was deplorable, more for grannys and Germans, nothing for the kids to do at night apart from annoy the other guests.

The food was terrible, the beer was very weak, and you only could get two drinks each time you went to the bar. STAFF: the staff were the most obnoxious people I have ever met,if you were not british, they loved you.

Take my advice. please dont waste your valuable cash and time on this holiday.

We enjoyed our stay at the Olympic,it was relaxing with the choice of 3 pools, the 2 front ones quieter than the large one. The rooms were slightly small for 4 persons, but the idea of the roller beds is so that you can roll them under the bed during the day to make more room for opening the balcony door etc. The bar staff weren't the happiest of chappies, but still got served fairly quickly. The hotel was extremely clean and tidy and the maids friendly. The food was very nice sometimes a bit repetative, but we didnt starve, and even our 2 kids were prepared to try things as it was well presented, sometimes a little cold by the time you get back to the table, but there is a microwave. The lifts were busy, but didnt take that long, anyway it was good exercicse walking down from the fifth floor, but worth waiting for the lift to go up. Overall we had a lovely time and no nightmares. The hotel is in a good position for the resort, close to the beach and entertainment. There are a few good pubs, Gringo Joes, White Horse and Beach boys, and the 2 boys enjoyed the crazy golf and bowling (opp Beach boys).

Hotel was very clean, daily maid service with friendly staff. However 4 beds in one room very very cramped no room to move or open balcony door, felt this was a health and safety issue. Pool area very clean but no inflatables or any kind allowed in pool not even a beach ball for the kids. There were a lot of Spanish at the hotel and they did seem to get preferential treatment as All Inclusive guests we were made to feel second class by the main bar staff. They appeared to ignore us whenever we approched the bar. this did result in a few arguements not only from ourselves but other AI guests. As we had a party of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) we found it unbeliveable that we could only ever purchase 2 drinks at a time, not very good when either my husband or i were trying to keep an eye on the kids, this meant we were made to make 2 trips to the bar even for soft drinks. The manager said this was hotel policy, I could understand it if we were on our own, incase we were going to sit and get drunk every night but we along with a lot of other families had small children with us so that was never going to be the case. A comment of you are getting it free anyway, was made by a member of the bar staff. We did speak to the manager about it and the situation did get a little better but not by much. The entertainment was poor. The mini disco was ok for the kids but adult entertainment was the worst I've encountered. The acts they had on only seemed to clear the place of only the hardy few. The food was poor/fair nothing really for the kids. The free for all to get a table was a joke. All in all we will not be back.

The pool area was excellent, there were loads of sunbeds and an excellent pool bar. The pool water was really cold. The drinks menu really was fantastic, the choice was excellent.
I have to point out though, that the food really was awful and there was a lack of choice. The hotel bar was nice, and there was a room at the back if you prefered a quieter atmosphere, away from the repeated kids entertainment!

If you are looking for a quiet holiday with only a few children, this may not be the hotel for you. I went just before the high season started, and by the end of the holiday there were loads of children running around and sometimes getting in the way. The staff were a mixed bunch- the bar staff were lovely and one of the men on reception but the others were rude. Apart from the food though, I really can't fault the hotel at all.

where do i start with this hotel if that's what i can call it??!!!

traveled in june 2007

I would NEVER recommend anyone to book here for a holiday, it was my 1st and last holiday stopping with top hotels olympic. The hotel was dirty, rooms far to small, the walls, doors, floors etc may as well have been made out of mdf wood because they are so thin you can hear everything from next door rooms, rooms above and below plus everyone in the corridor.

I hoped to have a relaxing holiday as the hotel was reccomended in its description as 'ideal for couples and families' BUT ITS DEFINEATELY NOT!!!!

1st room we were put in was very old and looked like it hadn't been cleaned or even entered in goodness knows how long!!! got moved to different room after complaining. next room had slight improvment but still not very nice, very very small.

I DIDNT GET A SINGLE NIGHT SLEEP EVEN WITH EAR PLUGS IN because of the ammount of NOISE EVERY NIGHT. It's not a hotel at all its like a youth centre for school/college and football team trips!!! FULL OF EXTREMELY NOISEY TEENAGERS WITH NO RESPECT FOR OTHERS TRYING TO SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the food was horrific no wide choice of what you eat, all food very oily and greasey, we ate out every morning & night even though paid for half board, purely because the food was so bad!!

most reception staff were quite polite to deal with, as were bar and cleaning staff. one particular member of bar staff is very rude and unproffessional, rushing people to pay their money without giving them chance to count it and general attitude disgraceful!!

WE DIDNT ENJOY THIS PLACE ONE SINGLE BIT AND SPENT AS MUCH TIME AS POSSIBLE AWAY FROM THE HOTEL IT WAS THAT BAD, NEVER TAKE YOUR CHILDREN THERE, IT'S NOT SUITABLE IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. IF YOU LIKE TO SLEEP AT NIGHT AND EAT GOOD FOOD DONT COME HERE AS YOU CERTAINLY WONT GET EITHER!!! I WOULDN'T EVER TELL ANYONE TO STOP AT TOP HOTELS OLYMPIC AT CALELLA BECAUSE IT WILL BE YOUR HOLIDAY FROM HELL AS IT WAS FOR US.

Hotel was absoloutly fine.

Walking distance from beach, and there were regular trips to Market, Barcelona etc.

Pool was fantastic, kids loved it.

We've been to this hotel about four times. Its the easiest holiday we've ever had, and we'll definetly return. Beer is cheap, and there are plenty of happy hours.

Waiters and waitresses are very polite, and remembered us all on our varios visits.

Rooms were clean, and the maid came in every day and made the beds and changed the towels if required.

Food was average, but not unpleasant. Kids food was good.
Entertainment was poor, but Beach Boys, White Horse and the Irish bar are right on the doorstep.

All round when we go to the Olympic it is a very enjoyable experience.

Went in August 03. Hotel very busy with Spanish. Suppose that's not a bad thing as they should know where the best places are in their own country. Not many brits to chat to though. Rooms very cramped if you want to sleep 4, not enough room to open the balcony door properly. Clean enough though with maids every day. Good air con in rooms. Staff seemed to be permanently stressed out apart from a couple of bar staff. Didnt stay around for the entertainment so cant comment. 3 pools and 1 kiddies pool, plenty of sunbeds. Food was excellent, always wide selection of meats, fish, pasta, salads, fruit, deserts. Lifts were permanently busy, quicker to use the stairs especially at meal times. Would go again , just for the grub but the staff were too interested in looking after the Spanish so would prefer somewhere with a few more brits.
