| said: Oh Dear I Read some of the reviews on the Mariposa Apartments unfortunately id already booked the holiday going on the 10th September 2007 but well you can't believe all you read or can you, well here goes apartment was was a bit tatty but clean and spacious enough if there is only two of you ours was meant for four (Sardine comes to mind) Maid service was great if you wanted clean towels we got them every other day just don't expect them to clean tidy or take the rubbish out or anything Really,the Noise from outside and the apartments was hurendus we came in at all hours and the noise was just the same night after night people shouting doors banging you name it. no air con and a very large deposit for your apartment in our opinion Don't Go

| said: on arrival the appartments looked quite good.
a spacious living area with a recently fitted kitchen complete with a 4 ring [touch top]hob,toaster, microwave and fridge/freezer.
the bedroom was very small with only 5 or 6 hangers in what is meant to be a wardrobe[not much space for clothes]
there was no air conditioning which resulted in the appartment [and ourselves] staying very hot causing us to sweat badly during the night.
you could hire a fan at the reception 25e/18£[big waow]
if the patio doors were left open at night the dreaded mosquitoes had a field day. i myself after 7 nights had at least 60 itchy red blotches from head to toe. many others suffered the same fate.

| said: The Mariposa is a mix of private and rented property. We booked with Freedom Direct and as a result of this for a 10 night stay we had no maid service and only had clean sheets and towels once, if we wanted more we had to pay for it.
We were not impressed with our apartments, they were dirty, sheets had cigarette burns in, curtains had holes in, the beds in the living room were so old that when you lay on the matress it was like being on the floor, several broken floor tiles.
All in all the place simply is not maintained at all. The apartment we stayed in was no 8 on the 4th floor staircase 2. I think it depends who owns the property you stay in as other people were very happy with their apartments.
A very important point is there is no 24 hour reception so if like us you have a private transfer from the airport make sure you arrive before 11pm as this is when reception closes. We arrived at 4 in the morning and had no way of getting our keys.Luckily another resident came back to their apartment and told us that the keys are left at another hotel for you to collect (it might have helped if the holiday company had told us this before hand) the place is called "Albatross Hotel" this is located- if you stand outside Mariposa looking at Sinatras you go right, up the hill to the top.
Then go right down the hill and you will see Albatross on the left hand side of the road, you have to leave a passport to obtain the keys.
Also not having a 24 hour reception can cause problems with noise, out of 10 nights we only got a few decent nights sleep due to inconsiderate residents fighting and drinking, buy earplugs!
A few people commented previously on the pool but we found it fine, on a hot day it was just right but no good on a cloudy day but that is the same with all the outdoor pools.
Places to eat, I would recommend the 19th hole, under the apartments, food is fantastic, staff are fantastic and the prices are great!

| said: I have just returned from the Mariposa after booking last minute holiday. I was a bit weary as we go to Florida every year where everything is spotless, but what a fantastic holiday this was.
Apartmentss were spotless. Yes basic but everything we needed was there. We are now arranging to go back same time next year.
If you go you should definitely go to Sinatra's bar across the road from apartments..amazing

| said: My partner and mother and father and I stayed in the Mariposa apts in Salou I had read some disturbing reports on this site but let me tell you that the bad ones were unfounded, they were clean comfy and equipped well. Microwave, fridge freezer, oven etc. Towels changed 3 times per week but not bed linen. Some spare in wardrobes though so forget all the bad reports you read on here just go there and enjoy yourself. For the money your paying don't expect 5 star rooms for 1 star money.
Great location to just enough away from the centre so you dont get rowdy gang's all night outside your window but close enough to walk in 10 Min's.
One gripe pool doesn't get enough sun but you have 2 small coves and 3 large beaches within 10 Min's walk I can't wait to return.

| said: I have travelled abroad for forty years, and these apartments have got to be the noisest in then noisest area of Salou. As prev/reported the culprits were mostly from Ulster or north-east england.
No bar/no lounge/no security. I think that sums this excuse for hol/apts up. I returned home and slept for 18hrs because I hardly slept all week on hols.

| said: We were a bit dubious after to reading bad reports but as someone else has stated they were unfounded.
Good location.
Clean but basic apartments but there again we only wanted somewhere to wash and sleep. Towels changed at least 5 times out of the 7 days we were there, maids were very friendly as were the reception staff .
Plenty of pubs restaurants ect all around but we didn't find the noise too much of a problem pool area always managed to get a sunbed/ very clean lifeguard a bit too strict though regarding inflatables and balls ect however once he went it was a different story.
All in all we had a good holiday and made some great friends.

| said: The apartment was very clean and the towels were changed every 2 or 3 days. The maids and reception staff were very friendly, and could all speak good English.
The apartment was a little small for 4 people sharing but it was clean and had a decent sized balcony. The pool was lovely. There was a lifeguard for the first week of our holiday.
The location of the apartments would be unsuitable for those with walking difficulties as it was located on a hill. However, it was close to all amenities, with restaurants, shops etc practically on the doorstep.
I would visit these apartments again as I enjoyed my stay there. I found the apartments and the whole package tour excellent value for money.

| said: The Mariposa is an excellent choice of apartments, it is very well run and the staff are very efficient and helpful.
The apartments are spotlessly clean and the towels changed every two days, they are private and it was usually quiet on the corridors. The pool area is excellent and their were always sunbeds free! There is also a roof top terrace where you can sunbathe privately.
The only minus points was the lack of air conditioning, it also doesnt have entertainment or a bbar but you are surrounded by friendly bars and lots of shops.
You will not be disappointed!!!

| said: this was my first visit to spain staying at the mariposa apartments. The first apartment we were given was not clean. we were given another one but my sister and nieces bed was rock hard and the racket from the nearby bars kept us awake all night. all you could hear was the clanking of doors all night. looks like a prison and thought we were in one. Hotel from hell. We stayed one night and paid seventy pound to upgrade to a four star at la pananda abosulute luxury.
Not a good location up a steep hill no view and nose from local bars all night.
not twenty four hour reception any trouble no one around anyway. Also had to pay a deposit on arrival we were not aware of.
Definately would not stay at this place again, the stuff of nightmares. Do not waste your money on this place

| said: Stayed in the Maraposa Apartments, and without doubt it was the noisiest, dirtiest apartment we have ever had the misfortune to visit.
Some of the reception staff were unhelpful and offensive, and an Irish bar directly below us played IRA tunes very loudly until 2 in the morning at least, accompanied by stamping of feet and what sounded like drums!
I tried to get a complaint form from Rep, but she kept stalling and in the end was nowhere to be seen for 3 days!
The photo in the brochure led you to believe it was a different hotel, and the £80 deposit required was extortionate!
Some apartments were flooded in the rain, and our friends had no hot water for 2 days, despite complaining several times!
It was like living in a prison.

| said: We have to say that after having read some of the reports on this website, we were dreading staying at these apartments, however it turned out that the accommodation was no where near as awful as it was portrayed to be.
Had we paid seven thousand pounds for this holiday then we would definately had cause to complain - in this life you get what you pay for!!
The hotel staff were friendly and helpul.
Our first impression on walking into the apartment was how clean the floor was - ok some of the furniture had seen better days, but then so has some of ours! The rooms were cleaned and bed linen and towels changed regularly. We were woken by noisy residents on our first evening there, but became oblivious to it from then on.
The fact that Port Aventura is on your doorstep has to be a big plus, especially when you have three boys to entertain. We all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Salou and are under pressure from our children to rebook and to stay at the Mariposas Apartments - they had a terrific time, met some nice people, had fun and enjoyed bombing in the pool, even if the old fuddy duddies gave them evil looks - the lifeguard actually taught them how to bomb properly.
Our advice is take it for what it is - basic, clean accommodation in a resort with lots to do, places to eat, places to visit, etc - the kids were happy, so we were happy. Let your hair down - you never know you might quite enjoy the experience.

| said: I went to the Mariposa in peak season, so after reading various reviews I thought it would be even worse. However, my holiday was one of the best I've had.
The corridors were never dirty - despite being lined with mirrors and there was never a mark on them.
I only stayed for a week but the maids gave us a huge pile of clean towels three times. We only had one complaint during our holiday and was due to one of our shutters becoming stuck and the staff at reception and the My Travel rep were very helpful and it was fixed the very same day.
The hotel wasn't much to look at from the outside but the rooms inside were well decorated and furniture as well as spotless.
The Mariposa isn't the most expensive hotel in the resort so we were not expecting anything luxurious!
It is situated in the centre of the resort so is lovely for going to the beach and around the shops. There is a good nightlife but I didn't experience any noise problems throughout my holiday. There is a hotel down the road who plays music throughout the day but it wasn't too loud at all.
All I can say is the Mariposa is a lovely hotel if you want a holiday in a good location but are on a budget.

| said: The Mariposa is a ugly, neglected dump. It is quite the worst holiday accommodation I have had the misfortune to come across. It resembles a prison block complete with bars across the bedroom windows.
There is no air con which makes nights unbearable not withstanding the incessant noise from both other residents and from streets below.
The reception staff are arrogant and treated us as though we were stupid.
Rooms were cleaned only twice in the week we stayed. The towels were changed only twice and the bed linen not at all. I was quite grateful for this as I did not want to see the state of the mattress!.
The pool was adequate but had no facilities well thats not quite true as there was a hole in the ground purporting to be the toilet.
My advise is not to book these apartments they are quite horrible. They are give a 3A rating by travel agents - this means absolutely nothing. The whole experience was awful.

When my family actually arrived at this dump they call the Mariposa Appartments, we were disgusted with the room, the smell, there is only 1 word for this place and that is filth!
There were dirty floors....Dirty linen....Dirty towels, everything was really filthy!
We arrived at 3am, so we just went to sleep, we were so tired, but the following morning my 1yr baby was crawling on the floor for 5 mins and his hands and knees were black with dirt. The drawers had srews hanging out of them and we had flickering lights and the fridge would turn on and off when it felt like it! Sickening!
You do not want to stay here, believe me!

The rooms was small but liveable. No air conditioning though so could be very hot in the day.
The lifts broke almost everyday my three kids did get stuck in them and had to jump out of them.The location was good though right outside the appartments was a bus stop with the buses coming every 5 to 10 minutes.
Also must get the litte train which takes you round the resort for about 3 euros each it takes you right to portadventura,which is a must if you like fun fairs and shows.
The holiday is what you make it and Salou is a lovely place for the family but watch the ladies who follow you to braid your hair they can be annoying.

On arrival we had to pay a 80 Euro deposit, which was a bit sneaky as it wasn't mentioned in the brochure. When we got to our room we were very pleasantly surprised that it was very clean. The view from the balcony was poor but that was not of much importance.
The reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The pool was a bit chilly but clean and sunbeds were always available.
Had a good week here and would stay again in the future.

| said: After reading lots of reviews on the Mariposa apartments we were dreading going as 99% of them were terrible but as we had already booked before reading a review we thought we would take the chance.
I have to say that although basic (but then, it's a package holiday, what do you expect?), these apartments were very clean. Fresh towels and maid service was every other day and we couldn't fault how friendly and helpful the staff on reception were.
The apartments are situated in an excellent location, with the shops and pubs on your doorstep and the beach a maximum 5 minute walk away.
Many of the previous reviews complained about the state of the pool area. Although there is no pool side bar, the pool itself was very clean, a suitable size and there were plenty of sunbeds available. One side of the pool is in the shade but this is welcome when temps are sky high.
Many also complained that lilo's/water beds etc were not allowed in the pool, this is infact untrue and as long as everyone was happy nothing was said to those using them.
There is no entertainment within the apartments but with all the bars that have entertainment (all welcome children) and clubs a couple of minutes walk is this really a reason to complain?
Our only real complaint is that at night it can be noisy - this is mainly due to people going into apartments and shutting their doors. We didn't experience any noise from the bars (Hollywoods) below as it closed just after half 12 or when the last customer left. Although this is not to say that in the later months of July and Aug it may be busier and therefore noisy.
Overall, we would certainly stay in these apartments again and totally believe that the people that have written the negative reviews in the past certainly over exaggerated.

Apart from the staff the place was a mess (mind you we did get the best apt according to other guests) you have to pay a deposit which we were not told about until we arrived!!!! Just as well we had brought extra cash to see us through the week...
The location of the apts were great through the day but at night we all slept in the living room as we were above pubs and directly next to a pool table and bar terrace which was extremely noisy!!! Not that we want peace by 10pm but into 2, 3 am it’s a bit much!!!
The holiday price was cheap and if it taught me one thing it was not to book on the cheap again if my kids are with us
We had a good holiday though coz its what you make of it isn’t it??????
I will defo not be going back to the Mariposa ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever again... Happy holiday x

| said: I really wouldn’t advise anyone to stay at these apartments, the staff are very rude. Our toilet was broke for a week, no lights in the bathroom. The noise is so bad you wont sleep, we were a young group aged up to 28 so didn’t expect anything great but these apartments were stinking. Take the stairs coz you will get stuck in the lift!
These apartments are out of the way from anything besides super markets which are cheap. I love salou and have been a couple of times kiss is the best club to go and the beach is to die for. At night times I advise you get taxis as I got attacked by a Spanish man who hit me and bit my face and tried dragging me to the beach. Taxi s are very cheap, Hollywood’s bar just underneath was good for kids and do a great take away pizza.

| said: This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! I am 16 years old and went to the "dump" with my mam, dad and brother last summer. The Mariposa was enough to put me off going abroad forever... Luckily it has since proved to just put me off ever going back to Salou!
The room was filthy and disgusting, I never once saw any staff apart from in reception and the pool.... Let's just say we spent everyday at the beach! The noise at night was terrible... From our balcony (we were situated above a supermarket).
The view was awful and when you looked down it was just a roof covered in rubbish, grime and dirt.
The pool area was never cleaned... and I agree with other statements about the Mariposa... it definitely resembles a prison!
Worst holiday I have ever encountered... 99% down to accommodation!

| said: The Mariposa was very disappointing, it was like staying in some scruffy flats. Off our balcony was the roof of the shops below, and full of all kind of litter.
You couldn’t cook a meal in there as the facilities were very poor. We had cockroaches in the bathroom every night. The bedding was changed once in a fortnight despite keep asking at reception.
The reception was only open certain hour so, if you wanted a safety deposit box you were limited to when you could get at it.
The rep was a nice girl though, felt sorry for her really as everyone was pecking her head.
The pool was filthy, no snack bar, music or anything, and to top it all it was shaded most of the time.
As you came out of the Mariposa you were smacked in the face with adult videos and the covers on them were obscene, they should have been covered, we had to watch our kids didn’t spot them on the way out.
So.... I rate this property 1/10 and you wouldn’t catch me there again.

| said: Myself and my family m47, f47, m15, m15, m8, found these apartments to be basic to say the least.
Insufficient wardrobe space, no air con, maid service twice we were there. Only one linen change and two towel changes.
The apartments are located on a steep hill not recommended for the infirm, there is no facilities for kids, immediately below the apartments is various bars etc which remain open until approx 3 am, nearby is two discos which are popular with the Dutch 18-30 clubbers, and at 5am you are awakened by them returning home. Also let's not forget the dawn chorus of the bin lorry emptying bins and the irate Spanish motorist on having to wait couple of minutes retaliating by sounding their horns.
Nearby are a few nice restaurants which serve good food at reasonable prices.
The resort itself is cleaner the nearer you get to the town centre.
Universal studios is a great day out but buy your tickets at the gate, 2 years ago we bought them at home and we were given a letter to take to customer services, 2 hours later we eventually got tickets from a English speaking local

| said: We stayed june 2004. The apartments were basic but clean, there was not enough storage space for clothes for a family of four on a 2 week holiday! We were situited on the first floor of the block (probably due to our small children).However everyone had to walk past our room to get to the lifts and this was not pleasant in the early hours of the morning when the revelers came back. The only window in the bedroom had to remain closed as this opened onto the noisy hallway.There was no air conditioning which meant the bedroom got to extreme temperatures.The pool was clean but too shaded. There's a rail which separates the shallow end from the deep end however this was used by the adults to play ball games so small kids were unable to use the pool.Each apartment had a doorbell which was occassionally buzzed in the early hours of the morning. Our kids are aged 2 & 4 and wouldn't recommend these apartments to other families.We were about a 10-15 minute walk to the resort centre. PS the deposit is now 110 Euros or £80!

| said: This most certainly wasn't the best apartments that we've stayed in... infact i think they've got to have been the worst!
On arriving we were informed that we had to pay a 60 euro deposit incase of breakages during our stay, although this wasn't there fault it would have been nice to be informed about this in the brochure.
The rooms were spacious and cleaned throughly every day by the maids, however, we later found from other guests that they were too crowded for a family of four.
There was no air conditioning in these rooms at all, we paid to hire fans from the reception but these made no difference at all and also thay were covered in dust
Entertainment..... non exisitant.
Pool bar or any bar..... non exisitant
Pool..... the brochure shows a picture of children playing with inflatables, however these were all banned... no beach balls or anything. Think this was more of a safety thing due to how small the pool was.
Would most definatly NOT RECOMMEND these apartments to anyone.

| said: we stayed in theses appartments for two weeks in them two weeks we were woken by the fire alarm 9 separate nights in the early hours of the morning. by the end of the fortnight enough was enough. there was never any fires. the appartments were very clean, and the pool area was a disapointment water was freezing cold pool area didnt get much sun. and it was a long walk to a decent beach, there was no entertainment in the appartments but there were lots of bars nearby, the staff were freindly, the location was bad for any one who has problems walking as it is a fair walk to the centre of salou,
